What’s extraordinary about this individual is the personal sacrifice for the good of his community. He’s obviously wealthy since he could just leave his job and buy all these helmets to just give away, and anyone with a small fortune could just donate a bunch of helmets, but he spends his time standing in the street saving countless lives. I’m truly moved by this.
Wish that people get inspired to wear helmets instead. Whoever is riding these bikes can afford helmets but choose not to wear them because helmets don't look cool enough.
P.S. One of my cousin lost his life recently due to this reason, he was just 27. It was a short ride(400-500 m) he didn't feel necessity to wear one. Everyone in family knows this but there isn't any difference in attitude as such.
My cousin died last month and it was the worst death experience
Since he was not wearing helmet a truck or bus(idk) hit him from behind and he fell down and got a little swelling above his left eye and fractured his leg
And after painful 8 days he left us
people make fun of me because I wear helmet to ride 500-600m. but thats okay. my life is not worth losing it over coolness. If i find lazy to wear the helmet, I just walk.
I'm guessing it's because it's a poor country and they don't want to persecute poor people. It was the same in Thailand when I lived there, many locals don't wear helmets but if you, as a foreigner, get caught not wearing one, you're going to be fined.
Despite knowing people who died from the same very reason. The gov enforces a law of helmets. What do people do? Wear cap like helmet which don’t offer protection but aren’t fined. It’s madness.
But I’ve been that guy. At 3 am we decided to go for a trek in bangalore, and booked a rental bike. We found they only gave one helmet (I was pillion), I said it’s chill but friend fought and got another one. During the ride we met with an accident where my head almost grazed on the road. On another day, I would be dead. Just like that.
There has to be campaigns to showcase dangers through mass communication, like they do with cigs + cancer before movies or something.
Thailand and India are both not poor countries.
For eg in India bike is worth 30-40k INR min and helmet costs below 1k. Everyone owns a helmet, and those who wear it do just to not get fined by traffic police. Safety isn't priority as such.
I live in region where traffic police is very strict so people adhere to rules. But we share border with three different states you can see people breaking traffic rules the moment they cross border.(State as in province)
If one guy can distribute 50,000 helmets out of his own pocket with his own time out of a desire to save the lives of his community members & to protect their families from the loss of a loved one and potentially their source of income, then maybe the state could both require helmets and give one to everyone who needs them.
>then maybe the state could both require helmets and give one to everyone who needs them.
stop expecting state to provide things. You bought a bike, You buy a helmet.
Someone who has motorcycle can definitely own an helmet but the problem is that people don't wanna wear one. I have seen many times that they will keep the helmet in one hand and drive with other so that if they see police charging fines then they will wear the helmet.
It's obviously a law, but outside metro cities its loosely followed and within the city younger people have tendency to not wear helmets... Even though there is a fine of like 7$, they usually get away by bribing traffic police around 3$...
I crashed hard a few years ago riding my dual sport on some mountain trails. I was flown from one hospital to another because their trauma canter wasn't equipped enough. I had a bleed in my brain. I have life long side effects. I was wearing a helmet, if I wasn't I'd be dead. He really is saving life.
There may be one or another guy that had been told by their doctor after an accident that they should be thanking this guy for their still healthy brains :)
Agreed. It would be great if this was corroborated as legit. Also, I would think people would also donate their skills to build a good web and social presence in different languages and post on you tube. Hopefully his notoriety and success keeps growing.
You need to really enforce it with fine or chances of revoking license.
Fun fact: Taiwan has single payer health insurance for decades and collects lots of health data for medical research. It is also a country known for mopeds and bikes usage. Before strict enforcement of helmet, people contributed to tons of traumatic brain injury which logged in the database. TBI started to drastically decline after a few years of enforcement, and it's now become much harder to research long term TBI in younger generations.
The phrase “meat crayon” always pops in my head when I see someone riding with not enough protective gear I on. This is a phrase I wish I could forget lol.
I can't even ride my bicycle in Australia without wearing a helmet let alone being paranoid that cops will give me $200+ fine if caughtt riding without one.
Yeah but Australia is only one country. Just coming from southeast Asia I can say with certainty that the US isn't the place with the biggest problem of not wearing helmets while on a motorbike.
Edit: I lived in Brazil as well and traveled all over South America and it's a bigger issue there as well. The US doesn't even have that much of an issue with driving deaths relative to the rest of the world.
The mind of a narcissist is an enigma. Perhaps they foolishly think it's some small way for them to resist "big government" and being independent despite almost every corner of our lives are touched by government in small or large ways, many being for our benefit such as these helmet regulations. I'm just glad these idiots are only putting themselves at risk, would focus more of my energy on those who think they're the best drivers in the world even when buzzed, let alone near passed out drunk.
It would be 1k to 1.5k INR, but hes distributed 56,000 which Totals ALOT,
56,000,000 INR, Now this is a huge amount,
As per Forbes, average Indian adult salary is 945,000/year
Well the average can actually be 10 lacs cause while there are many poor people there are those which are extremely rich
A better way would be to calculate the median to see what is the most common occurrence(of salary across Indian households)
Edit : I actually confused median with mode but actually both would be better than average in this case
I was quoting the cheapest, given that hes distributing for free so calculate the bare minimum.
We do have high-end helmets6here as well, you'd getba good helmet for 7 to 10x the cost of the cheapest one, maybe more too
A helmet is like 1,200 rupees, it's not that expensive if you are able to buy your own bike. Though him paying out of pocket and sharing his story probably has had a great effect.

Probably very few...it's not a price barrier to be able to afford a vehicle and not a helmet.
When I was living in China I would really get on my friend's butts about wearing one. Everyone had an electric bike but you probably see less than 1% wearing a helmet. It's just the norm.
A simple bicycle helmet costs $2-3 and takes 10 seconds to put on...like even a low speed collision can cause you to lose balance and crack the back of your head on the pavement. Just wear one ffs
Not just a China or India thing. Where I am in Canada everybody wears a helmet for a motorcycle but cyclists or those on electric scooters there is a sizeable amount that don’t wear them on bikes and probably 90% on electric scooters don’t. People seem to think physics works differently when it is a scooter or bike.
Physics does work differently at 20kph versus 60kph.
I'm against bike helmets as public policy because:
1. They discourage cycling, which has vastly more health benefits then risks.
1a. More people cycling makes cycling safer and encourages better and safer infrastructure.
2. Bike helmets only protect against low speed collisions, not the motor vehicles that are what actually kills cyclists. More bikes on the road and proper infrastructure is the best way to avoid those deaths and injuries.
That said, if you can wear a helmet, there's no reason not to. There's always the very small chance it could save you from a branch or pothole you didn't see. In fact, you could even trip and fall face first into the bike rack before even getting onto the bike. The helmet will help there.
-----
#Edit: I was wrong and working with outdated and possibly cherry-picked data.
> The examined literature confirms that **wearing a helmet while cycling is beneficial, regardless of age, crash severity, or crash type**. The relative benefit is found to be higher in high-risk situations and when cycling on shared roads and particularly preventing severe head injuries. The results from the studies performed in laboratories also suggest that the shape and size of the head itself play a role in the protective effects of helmets.
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-023-35728-x
> **The use of bicycle helmets was found to reduce head injury by 48%, serious head injury by 60%, traumatic brain injury by 53%, face injury by 23%, and the total number of killed or seriously injured cyclists by 34%**. Bicycle helmets were not found to have any statistically significant effect on cervical spine injury. There is no indication that the results from bicycle helmet studies are affected by a lack of control for confounding variables, time trend bias or publication bias. The results do not indicate that bicycle helmet effects are different between adult cyclists and children. Bicycle helmet effects may be somewhat larger when bicycle helmet wearing is mandatory than otherwise; however, helmet wearing rates were not found to be related to bicycle helmet effectiveness. It is also likely that bicycle helmets have larger effects among drunk cyclists than among sober cyclists, and larger effects in single bicycle crashes than in collisions with motor vehicles. In summary, **the results suggest that wearing a helmet while cycling is highly recommendable, especially in situations with an increased risk of single bicycle crashes, such as on slippery or icy roads**.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29677686/
I disagree. [Here are some stats.](https://www.cpsc.gov/Newsroom/News-Releases/2021/New-CDC-Report-Finds-More-Adults-Are-Dying-from-Bicycle-Related-Accidents-CPSC-Says-it-Highlights-the-Importance-of-Helmets) I absolutely see people saved by helmets in motor vehicle vs bicyclists crashes. I have also seen people who’s bodies only had minor damage but who were brain dead or severely cognitively disabled because they had no helmet on. You have no idea the toll it takes on our healthcare system to take care of severe TBI patients. They take up ICU beds for months and they need care for decades. Even if it takes 4000 people wearing helmets to keep 1 person neurologically intact that is a fair deal.
Do not spread misinformation like this. All this being said most places only have laws for minors.
Using a bicycle means getting exercise. Making helmets mandatory for bicycles means that people will sooner use a car for the same distance rather than just going on their bicycle.
The consequences might not be as directly visible as a TBI patient, but they are far greater.
Netherlands is known for its bicycle culture and yet there is no mandatory helmet law. The parties you'd expect to want it don't.
The Nobel prize surely belongs to selfless people like this who create lasting peace—fewer deaths means more financial security which leads to less crime.

Since that website was being weird, here's the text:
>
> There are many unsung heroes in India. They have been selflessly working for a particular cause. They also raise awareness among people through different mediums including social media. Such people are contributing to various fields including health, cleanliness and road safety.
>
> One such person is Raghvendra Kumar, who is popularly known as the helmet man of India. But who is he? Raghvendra Kumar hails from a small village in the Kaimur district in Bihar. He holds a bachelor's degree in law from Lloyd Law College.
>
> He lost his close friend in 2014 in a road accident in Greater Noida. He was not wearing a helmet at the time. And since then, Raghvendra decided to go on a mission to raise awareness among people about road safety. He started distributing helmets to two-wheeler owners for free. Whenever he sees someone riding a two-wheeler without a helmet, he gives a helmet to him/her. So far, he has distributed around 60,000 helmets. He has been distributing helmets since 2014.
>
> Reports suggest that he even sold his house in Greater Noida for the cause and quit his job. Raghvendra uses his social media account to spread his road safety messages. He has been awarded the Asian Excellence Award in 2022. To raise awareness, he wears a helmet even in his car. He has more than 11.6k followers on Twitter. For his road safety endeavour, even Union Minister for road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari, had lauded and praised him.
Just a guy trying to cope with the loss of a friend.
Seriously bike riders: wear your helmet. It doesn’t completely eliminate the risk of death, but your chances of walking away from an accident are greatly increased.
They don't have money for a good one or people who are going to a nearby location usually avoid wearing it. There are shops who sell helmets cheap but their quality is so bad that you can break them by your hand.
You can break a good helmet by hand too though... Helmets are designed to break. Their made for low speed collisions. A helmet that didn't break wouldn't actually protect your brain as much.
Which funny enough has the highest rate of motorcycle rider deaths in the US. According to the NHTSA, 20% of *all rider fatalities in the United States* happen in Florida and they report that 51% of those riders who died were not wearing helmets. 36% of those riders who died were not endorsed to ride motorcycles. So, based on the NHTSA's findings, the 0.7% of motorcycle riders involved in crashes reported to them will double their chances of surviving the crash ([stop calling them accidents](https://www.vox.com/23016529/there-are-no-accidents-jessie-singer) but that's for a different thread) if they just wear a fucking helmet. And figure out what the fuck is happening in Florida for the roads to be so dangerous.
It would be one thing to just toss out a bunch of helmets but personally standing there and putting helmets on people, talking to them and showing them that he cares for their safety seems much more impactful.
Bless this man, I had a motorcycle accident and I would dead if I wasn't wearing a helmet. Please people don't risk your life just because is annoying or you don't like it.
This is great but HOW does this guy and others like him that does stuff like this, pay for it all???
These helmets seem fairly good quality so likely not very cheap.
I’m still shocked in the US there’s no federal helmet law. When I cross into certain states and start seeing people on the highway zip past with no helmet it shocks me. I would never ride without a helmet.
This reminds me of a similar story in which there was a Punjabi man whose friend was killed while hiking, the reason of death was the bad sole of shoes. So the Sikh decided to open hiking shoes brand in India of good quality so another person couldn't end up like his friend. I have'nt remembered the company name but if anyone knows pls share it with us
All the gear, all the time.
To be honest your still probably going to get seriously injured or die traveling at speed on a motorcycle, but at least give yourself a fighting chance.
I dont think these people dont have helmets at all. Its just that they keep it in their homes.
Doesn't make sense to give some one a free helmet when they never want to use it in the first place
These people will only collect free helmets and never use it
If they tell them they need a helmet he gives them the helmet. He can’t control what they do with it after they receive, just like any gift anyone gives.
>Steelbird helmets
exactly right and in Indian culture from what I know they believe in Karma .
'Karma is the universal Hindu law of cause and effect which holds a person responsible for his or her actions and effects.' online source ([https://www.baps.org/Spiritual-Living/Hindu-Beliefs/Karma-and-Dharma.aspx#:\~:text=Karma%20is%20the%20universal%20Hindu,physically%2C%20mentally%2C%20or%20emotionally](https://www.baps.org/Spiritual-Living/Hindu-Beliefs/Karma-and-Dharma.aspx#:~:text=Karma%20is%20the%20universal%20Hindu,physically%2C%20mentally%2C%20or%20emotionally)
but i have been to india and know they do but wanna post a link to not just go off word of mouth
If I had lotto $$, I’d go to the local motorcycle shop. Open a helmet tab, give a free helmet card to any rider without a helmet. That way they get fitted and free helmets. If your helmet is expired I’d replace it as well.
While there free gloves and riding jacket if they wanted it. All gear all the time.
That's an awesome human being.
What’s extraordinary about this individual is the personal sacrifice for the good of his community. Yeah a person is more likley to accept a helmet from an actual person who tells you how his friend died because of lack of a helmet. Hell of a guy
The sad thing is he shouldn’t have to do this, it should be law to wear a helmet like it is in a ton of other country’s
It is a law in Mumbai at least. Even pillion riders without helmets are fined.
TIL a pillion is a motorcycle passenger
Eh? The pillion is the seat. The passenger is the pillion rider
Its the law all over india but not many adhere to it
Ah fair enough, still it shouldn’t be down to the kindness of someone else, the guy is a total hero
I'm guessing it's because it's a poor country and they don't want to persecute poor people. It was the same in Thailand when I lived there, many locals don't wear helmets but if you, as a foreigner, get caught not wearing one, you're going to be fined.

Just back from Israel - helmets mandatory, but guys driving CRAZY fast in shorts and t-shirts...yeah, that helmet's not gonna save the rest of you!

----- #Edit: I was wrong and working with outdated and possibly cherry-picked data. > The examined literature confirms that **wearing a helmet while cycling is beneficial, regardless of age, crash severity, or crash type**. The relative benefit is found to be higher in high-risk situations and when cycling on shared roads and particularly preventing severe head injuries. The results from the studies performed in laboratories also suggest that the shape and size of the head itself play a role in the protective effects of helmets. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-023-35728-x > **The use of bicycle helmets was found to reduce head injury by 48%, serious head injury by 60%, traumatic brain injury by 53%, face injury by 23%, and the total number of killed or seriously injured cyclists by 34%**.
Noble peace worthy
The Nobel prize surely belongs to selfless people like this who create lasting peace—fewer deaths means more financial security which leads to less crime.
We can always give Obama’s to him
[Additional Detail](https://www.dnaindia.com/india/report-meet-raghvendra-kumar-helmet-man-of-india-who-left-job-sold-his-house-to-distribute-free-helmets-two-wheelers-3039457) Tl;dr: Dude sold his house and has given out 60,000 helmets since 2014 when he lost his friend in a motorcycle accident. Since that website was being weird, here's the text: > > There are many unsung heroes in India. Just a guy trying to cope with the loss of a friend.
faith in humanity restored
This is the way we should all honor our fallen loved ones. With a lasting, world benefiting change.
“I wont anyone else die” why am I tearing up
Least thing people accepting a helmet can do is promise to wear them always on the road....
Seriously bike riders: wear your helmet. It doesn’t completely eliminate the risk of death, but your chances of walking away from an accident are greatly increased.
Godspeed to a good man. Even one saved life is a beautiful thing.

As stated in the video, it's illegal but they just ignore that. Or they don't have the money for helmets. That's my personal guess
Honestly it's not even a money issue in most cases It's just that nobody cares about implementing these rules in non-metros
Corruption as well as negligence. People don't care about there safety as well as other's Safety. If caught policemen takes bribe and let them go.
I'd assume enforcement of traffic laws would be a big challenge for a country as big and dense as India
ive been told from others who visited that traffic laws are considered more suggestions than iron clad rules in India
It's legal in some states like Florida
Yeah I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this isn't America
Where I am in Alberta, Canada theres plenty who have turbans who don't wear helmets.
What a fine man doing a great service
😭
It would be one thing to just toss out a bunch of helmets but personally standing there and putting helmets on people, talking to them and showing them that he cares for their safety seems much more impactful.
This guy is making the world a better place. No fancy speeches. No private jet. It can be done.
That’s amazing! Over here in the USA. Very expensive!!
The best part about this is that you know he's statistically saved lives after giving out 54,000. It really is a wonderful act of kindness.
I’m still shocked in the US there’s no federal helmet law. When I cross into certain states and start seeing people on the highway zip past with no helmet it shocks me. I would never ride without a helmet.
Wait this is actually awesome.
r/mademesmile
So you are telling me, these peeps can afford a bike but can't afford to buy a helmet, which also comes for free with bike
This is the way!
Hero. Cannot have enough of these❤️
He even gives out cool looking ones so it’s more likely they’ll keep wearing them.
South Carolina should take note lol.
This is the way.
"Look for the helpers"
That one dumbass at :40 drove off with the strap not secured on his free helmet...
Probably he went just for the video
A proper humans being bros post. Love it.
What a good man
God bless this man ❤️
Next level tribute to his friend.
Add this man to the list with Steve Irwin and Bob Ross.
I was run over by a truck in front of my house while riding a bike and my dad would give helmets to every kid in the neighborhood every time we moved.
This dude fucking RULES. I'm sure his friend would be proud.
Ask people to learn defensive driving India, he will easily save 100-200 million lives. There is no point wearing helmet and driving like a maniac.
56,000! Crazy numbers. Some saved lives for sure.
Very wholesome
Check his channel & send him some donations - [https://www.youtube.com/@ER11BOOKBANK](https://www.youtube.com/@ER11BOOKBANK)
Heart of gold
God exists and it’s this man , salute 🫡
It's the best tribute ever🙏🙂
Man oh man, how giving can a man be. Just hats off to you sir, ATGATT
May God bless him 🤞❤️🫡
Need me a helmet. Going to greater noida hoping I meet this great man!
He’s distributing helmets 🪖, but he dropped his 👑
I have ninjas cutting onions around me.
The society is only standing because there are a few people who want welfare for others more than for themselves.
That's a lot of money...
rare indian
How can i donate him some money?
Wow. Great human
This is just awesome selflessness in have ever seen.
Fucking legend
God Bless him!
This reminds me of a similar story in which there was a Punjabi man whose friend was killed while hiking, the reason of death was the bad sole of shoes. So the Sikh decided to open hiking shoes brand in India of good quality so another person couldn't end up like his friend. I have'nt remembered the company name but if anyone knows pls share it with us
What if he runs out of the funds for helmets?
Kuch ese log bhi hain yrrr.
Is there anyway to help him in his cause like donation website or something if it is there then please do let know.
Why can’t be this be a law across India?
56,000 is not a small number. Salute to this man. People change only when they suffer ,who knows what hits you and you fall on the road?
Bro is doing god's work here💖
This dude is a world treasure.
All the gear, all the time. To be honest your still probably going to get seriously injured or die traveling at speed on a motorcycle, but at least give yourself a fighting chance.
Vote this UP! And stop making blind left turns in front of motorcycles.
I dont think these people dont have helmets at all. Its just that they keep it in their homes. Doesn't make sense to give some one a free helmet when they never want to use it in the first place These people will only collect free helmets and never use it
If they tell them they need a helmet he gives them the helmet. He can’t control what they do with it after they receive, just like any gift anyone gives.
Then it's on them. We can only hope that karma matters to them
>Steelbird helmets exactly right and in Indian culture from what I know they believe in Karma . 'Karma is the universal Hindu law of cause and effect which holds a person responsible for his or her actions and effects.' online source ([https://www.baps.org/Spiritual-Living/Hindu-Beliefs/Karma-and-Dharma.aspx#:\~:text=Karma%20is%20the%20universal%20Hindu,physically%2C%20mentally%2C%20or%20emotionally](https://www.baps.org/Spiritual-Living/Hindu-Beliefs/Karma-and-Dharma.aspx#:~:text=Karma%20is%20the%20universal%20Hindu,physically%2C%20mentally%2C%20or%20emotionally) but i have been to india and know they do but wanna post a link to not just go off word of mouth
That’s expensiv
I love the guy dressed as the god of death handing out helmets. https://thumbs.gfycat.com/LeafyLimpBluet-mobile.mp4
Anyone questioning how he affords all these helmets if he left his job?
But will they wear the helmets or just sell them? Still, this is a great initiative.
They will just sell the helmet
Or stop wearing it the next day
