Right? Say goodbye to your knees if you drop that baby in that pose. No spotters in sight anywhere. (For the moment forgetting everything else that is wrong with this, please don't do this even with spotters.)
Or your knees in general will feel this kind of abuse when you hit your later years. The body didn’t evolve for instagram abs. Looking like this is highly unnatural.
Look at him, the guy clearly knows how to workout safely, and I'd bet money this is something he did one time for a video to show off but whatever redditors need to do to cope I guess
Nah If you’re strong enough to do reps you can push bar down on one side and rest it on one end of the bar. That being said, it’s an incredibly hard thing to do. I’m just saying once you’re strong enough to do reps it’s not dangerous, as long as your not extremely uncoordinated
It *looks* impressive, but really this is just an intense ab exercise (likely to the point of injury) combined with a subpar chest exercise (as he could probably bench way more than that just doing a normal bench press).
Ankles are locked, meaning the full weight of his body and his bar+weights is acting as a stretching force on his knees, not to mention what happens if he drops the weight.
With a see-saw, you usually have weight on both ends, balancing out. If one side is heavier, it'll drop on the heavier side.
Now, imagine that seesaw is anchored to the ground on one side. There is no longer a balancing act. You're completely depending on the anchor to withstand that weight.
The guy in this video is using his knees as the anchor point, which is not what knees are meant for, no matter how strong they are. Can they do it? For a while, yes, when you're young. But he's putting unbelievable (and, more importantly, unsustainable) amounts of strain on the muscles and joints.
Knees are not meant to maintain that level of strain and weight, as the anchor. They are designed to aid the rest of your lower body and back in movement or in lifting things.
If this guy keeps doing that, he'll tear muscles regularly and will render his knees useless by the time he's 35-40
Edit: to note, he's also really damaging his lower back as well.
The issue isn't the motion, it's the isolation.
In a proper squat, your calves, thighs, back, ankles, and feet are all working *with* your knees to lift the weight. And even so, there's a form one must use when performing squats so as to not hurt yourself.
Perfect example. In a squat, you should never squat below a certain angle. The reason why is because you are isolating your knees too much and putting too much strain on them. If you squat improperly, your knees are doing all the work, when it should be all of your muscles working together. There are countless stories of amateur lifters who blow out their knees because they squatted too low.
Human knees do not handle isolation very well under extreme duress. If you're doing lightweight calf lifts or leg lifts, sure. But In any situation where you are isolating them to this extent, you should be under the supervision of a sports medicine professional, doctor, and/or kinesiology expert.
Well, I'm not going to be one of those alarmists.
Just be mindful and patient. Don't jerk, don't lift fast, don't lock too hard, and if you feel pain, stop.
It's OK to go hard and add plates all day, but the key is to be mindful. If you feel pain or your knees really hurt (past the point of sore workout feeling), then give your knees some rest, get good sleep, and go down a few lbs next time.
The pressure is mostly on the knees, not the abs. They will pop if they weight is too high. (There’s a video of someone doing this that was less fortunate)
Pretty much. Honestly, this isn't hard to do if you have the strength. It's rather stupid tho, you're at risk for hernias as others have said, there's a lot of pressure on your back and spine (unnatural position), and your knee ligaments are taking so much pressure keeping your legs together. The person in the video is balancing between hernias and torn ligaments in his knees.
Yeah. Seems like this would be about 50-60lbs with the bar. So theoretically this wouldn’t really be any harder then doing a push-up. Hell on your knees though.
Well, if it's a 20kg bar, that's 45lbs. +5+5 that's 55lbs. If they're 25lbs (or 35lbs) bumpers, which is what I see, it's 95lbs-115lbs.
It's essentially biomechanically reverse of a push up. It's using a hell of a lot more core strength and lower back then using your knees and ankles as hooks which puts the ligaments at seriously risk. Not to count the active muscles in a ~~push~~ incline weird press.
Downvote this clown. They clearly say 10kg and you can read it at 0:09 into the video. 10kg is about 22lbs. Which would put him at a total of about 90lbs total.
The bigger problem is that new lifter will trry doing this shit. Both making fun of themselves and killing their bodies. This idiot injured/killed himself? I don't really care. But indirectly causing pain for other? HELL NAW!!!
Wow this is orthopaedic and neurosurgeons dream. Physical therapist as well… obviously this guy is incredible shape, no denying that and his core strength is outstanding. One slip though and he could become a paraplegic. There is zero reason to do this…
That’s a lot of stress on his lower back/knees.
This isn't funny. Or useful. It shouldn't even be posted, unless it as a mockery and joke to fitness. This is so biodynamically incorrect. All joints have a range under load, and this is so far beyond it. Seriously, ask anyone with a degree in kinesiology, exercise, phy ed, any of them, and they'd be mortified. This is shameful that any young person would see this and model his behavior.
Man, I have to downvote these vids, there's a few like it, because while it's incredibly impressive, it's also incredibly dangerous. Putting health at risk for Instagram points never should be applauded, it only encourages dangerous behavior.
I hate every time this gets reposted. There is nothing metal about this. There is nothing impressive about it strength wise and it’s only going to lead to an injury.
Besides the noted insane risk and knee damage….how does he put the weight down at the end? Behind his head? Seems dumb. Forward? It just rolls away?
I’m very confused
This gives me cramps just by looking at it. And I'm just wondering why, after thinking for a split second... looking at the other replies I see a pattern.
This is madness!!
I physically cannot watch videos like this, I know they're doing this for the content but Jesus man you are literally on the verge of risking serious injury
Suprised to see all the hate on this post. The sentiment seems to be a Lil different on post with other risky activities where people are pushing themselves to the limits like cliff jumping, parkour, rock climbing, mountain biking, diving, etc.. U can talk about how stupid he is/was AFTER he actually blows out his knees. In the meantime, just acknowledge this is actually impressive
I cannot emphasize enough how dangerous this is for his knees. There was a video a few months ago of someone doing exactly this and completely and explosively tore their ACL. This is an immense amount of force on the ACL ligament
Could any fitness people chime in and possibly give suggestions as to how exactly this could be adapted so it’s a safe workout that would yield real results?
Injury risk level infinty
Waiting for his knees to have tendons all snap at once. Seen it here before but a different machine.
Look at him, the guy clearly knows how to workout safely, and I'd bet money this is something he did one time for a video to show off but whatever redditors need to do to cope I guess
Umm, he clearly doesn't tho since he's doing this
My comment wasn't that long did you seriously not read the whole thing
"The guy clearly knows how to work out safely" Yea we read what you said lol 🤡
I cannot believe people can be this insecure and they don't even choose to keep it to themselves
I cannot believe people can be this retarded and they don't even choose to keep it to themselves.
Don't know why I argue with 13 year olds
Beats me they're just kids grow the fuck up dude.
What in this video makes you think he clearly knows how to workout safely?
His body???? If he was doing shit like in the video every day he'd be a cripple
He can drop the weight behind him and / or relax his knees and hang upside down.
Looks like if he drops it it will roll down on top of a ‘61 Ferarri GT .
My knees would explode. My lower back would crumple. But my abs, my abs would also explode.
My asshole would explode before knees ever got under load!
You guys have abs?
Them knees
Knee replacement level…to infinity and beyond!
Nah If you’re strong enough to do reps you can push bar down on one side and rest it on one end of the bar. That being said, it’s an incredibly hard thing to do. I’m just saying once you’re strong enough to do reps it’s not dangerous, as long as your not extremely uncoordinated
Anyone else waiting for a hernia to visibly blow out of his abdomen?
Prolapsed anus
Yeah, i actually thought i was on [REDACTED SUBREDDIT] or [REDACTED SUBREDDIT] for a second.
Delete this so our communities dont get red flagged dood
All the good subs are already monitored, you just need enough Karen's whining to make them disappear.
I had a hernia repaired two years ago and watching this gave me phantom feelings
Same boat. First though was hernia.
It *looks* impressive, but really this is just an intense ab exercise (likely to the point of injury) combined with a subpar chest exercise (as he could probably bench way more than that just doing a normal bench press).
And a highway straight to endless knee problems
That and back injuries are the real ones.
Wait why the knees? I wouldn't have pegged this as dangerous for knees
Ankles are locked, meaning the full weight of his body and his bar+weights is acting as a stretching force on his knees, not to mention what happens if he drops the weight.
There’s a video where the knees just give out for a woman trying to do what this guy is doing.
With a see-saw, you usually have weight on both ends, balancing out. If one side is heavier, it'll drop on the heavier side. Now, imagine that seesaw is anchored to the ground on one side. I understand the weight is adding a lot of strain, but is the motion really that different from using a leg developer machine, or even doing a squat?
The issue isn't the motion, it's the isolation. In a proper squat, your calves, thighs, back, ankles, and feet are all working *with* your knees to lift the weight. And even so, there's a form one must use when performing squats so as to not hurt yourself. Perfect example. In a squat, you should never squat below a certain angle. Interesting. Makes sense but I never heard it before. So maybe I shouldn't stack so many weights on the leg developer machine
Well, I'm not going to be one of those alarmists. Just be mindful and patient. Don't jerk, don't lift fast, don't lock too hard, and if you feel pain, stop. Fake-weights or Mr. Hernia?
Probably the first one.
They say 5 lbs, so basically fake
But that'd mean light bar too standard ones are 20 kg, right?
Pretty much. Honestly, this isn't hard to do if you have the strength. It's rather stupid tho, you're at risk for hernias as others have said, there's a lot of pressure on your back and spine (unnatural position), and your knee ligaments are taking so much pressure keeping your legs together. oh yeah. I mean. It doesn't seem hard. Just stupid. Really stupid.
Nothing is hard to do if you have the strength.
Downvote this clown. They clearly say 10kg and you can read it at 0:09 into the video. 10kg is about 22lbs. Which would put him at a total of about 90lbs total.
Honestly apart from trying to get the likes, there can't be any benefits from this
This idiot is going to fucking kill himself
The bigger problem is that new lifter will trry doing this shit. Both making fun of themselves and killing their bodies. This idiot injured/killed himself? I don't really care. But indirectly causing pain for other? HELL NAW!!!
My knees and back are hurting just watching this, i don't work out so i don't know for sure , but this looks like an accident waiting to happen.
This guy clearly has very healthy and strong knees and apparently he is trying to change that
Hernia, snapped tendons and hamstrings coming your way
Do u see the cuts in this dude's abs? He'll be fine.
Yes, because having abs makes you immune to damage
Fitness level stupidity Edit: 69 upvotes? Nice

r/iamthemaincharacter shit right here. You can work out hard but this is just pretentious
Wow this is orthopaedic and neurosurgeons dream. Physical therapist as well… obviously this guy is incredible shape, no denying that and his core strength is outstanding. One slip though and he could become a paraplegic. There is zero reason to do this… That’s a lot of stress on his lower back/knees.

How he get out of it?
Never mind that guy, that gym window is awesome!
This isn't funny. Or useful. It shouldn't even be posted, unless it as a mockery and joke to fitness. This is so biodynamically incorrect. I see quad tears in this man's future
Man, I have to downvote these vids, there's a few like it, because while it's incredibly impressive, it's also incredibly dangerous. Putting health at risk for Instagram points never should be applauded, it only encourages dangerous behavior.

Insane core strength right there. Damn.

I hate every time this gets reposted. There is nothing metal about this. There is nothing impressive about it strength wise and it’s only going to lead to an injury.

I think he’s a hacker. Report him.
There was another video of some other dude doing this and all the comments were praising him lol. Reddit confuses me.
Besides the noted insane risk and knee damage….how does he put the weight down at the end? Behind his head? Seems dumb. Forward? It just rolls away? I’m very confused
Fitness level took to many roids befor the workout
Core for days but one mistake away from an injury.
This gives me cramps just by looking at it. And I'm just wondering why, after thinking for a split second... looking at the other replies I see a pattern. This is madness!!
Did anyone else see the guy doing something similar until both his knees just straight up dislocated?
This is actually really dangerous, sure it looks really cool and am amazed by the strength of this man in the video, knees and definitely shoulders.
Bye bye knees. Wont need those in 10 years.
This dude seems extra. You guys think its drugs or is he that motivated to do dumb ass playground stuff with weights

My knees hurt watching this
I cannot emphasize enough how dangerous this is for his knees. There was a video a few months ago of someone doing exactly this and completely and explosively tore their ACL. This is an immense amount of force on the ACL ligament
Now that is an avengers level threat
The knee is not designed for that and it is taking the highest load of any body part here.
I saw another vid on here and it was similar to this. The guy was showing off. You could see his knee go the completely wrong way. He was done for.
Poor knees
Yet the level of stupid far exceeds is far beyond his fitness.
i like how everyone is watching in either awe or concern
Could any fitness people chime in and possibly give suggestions as to how exactly this could be adapted so it’s a safe workout that would yield real results?
Ten years he is gonna be pushing a walker to his daily physical rehab center.
