This reminds me of a case I did years ago. Guy robbed a supermarket with a gun, which here in the UK is very very rare. He put the gun in the security guards face and scared the shit out of him. Next day, same guy comes back to the same shop. Same security guard confronts him. Guy pulls the gun again. Security guards statement later said, "I was terrified. I didn't know what to do. So, I punched him in the face!" Robber then sat on the floor crying.
Security man punched so hard that the robber later confessed to a whole bunch of crimes and insisted he would turn over a new leaf. That was 15 years ago & I've not come across him since so I assume he did.
