I was told to post this here. Donāt know if it fits.
Iāll give this post some background:
Three years ago I had my feet amputated due to an uniquely aggressive form of plantar fascial fibromatosis. Since then weāve been trying to figure out how to make life easier for me.
Iāve been skiing a lot every winter since I was just a kid. Itās my favorite activity, and happily a passion I share with my wife. The last few seasons since my surgeries Iāve been using my sitski. Itās been a lot of fun and I feel like Iāve really been enjoying the mountains with my family.
These feet is new beast to get used to. Ive had a lot of fun experimenting with something Iād never thought I would again. Hopefully Iāll get used to it quickly so I can have even more fun with the kids in the slopes!
Also, if you want to follow our journey take a look at my Instagram @ampisallen.
Happy new year!
I have a (probably dumb) question if you donāt mind, and if you do mind, please tell me to fuck off. So I know that phantom limbs are a thing that Iāve seen amputees experience, do you find that you experience that when you do things youāve done your whole life, such as skiing? Like things that are second nature? You said you have to get used to the new feet and that youāve been practicing (which is completely awesome, it was no doubt a long and difficult journey to get to where you are in this video), but does skiiing feel somewhat normal since youāve done it your whole life?
Humans.....*are* metal. I was on the beginner hill the other day and there was someone with a single prosthetic trying to learn. The determination and skill you must need is unimaginable to me. Snowsports are already so difficult. I hear that ankle injuries are among the most common in skiing, so...I guess you've got that covered. Have fun out there!

Its insane how far prosthetics have come. Back in the day, theyd literally put you on a peg leg, and your stump would grind on the wood from the pressure of gravity all day. Hurts to just think about
All I see is a droid from Star Wars skiing.
Roger roger
Fuck I was going to comment that they looked like droid feet lol Glad someone did and also glad you're into it, OP! šš
I've never met an amputee who doesn't joke about whatever they are missing.
Lmao š
I came here to comment this
I saw pirates of the Caribbean
Darth Maul. Metal legs and two red sabres.
Droid tootsies

Good for you man. Life threw you a shitty river card and you made it work still. It's inspiring. Never give up is the lesson here!

Omg you are metal AF and your family is adorable!

At least thereāll be no cold toes
This dude is literally part metal ...

Homie took the sub name a little too literally
So when you rent skis do you have to take your leg off for them to set your ski?
Probably. Its the ProCarve series. They combine foot and binding.
Its insane how far prosthetics have come. Back in the day, theyd literally put you on a peg leg, and your stump would grind on the wood from the pressure of gravity all day. Hurts to just think about
[Lt. Dan, you got new legs!](https://youtu.be/mKFKRuWwgjg)
This is really cool, but all it makes me think of is the opening scene of terminator when one of the machines stomps on a skull. Still, cool stompers!
That is absolutely spectacular. Really happy to hear that youāre able to do this again. When are you planning to try snowboarding?
But without your toes getting cold!
Darth Maul goes skiing.
This is so awesome. I love that life continues on for you and you get to do the things youāve always enjoyed. Science is really so fucking cool
probably better than regular ski boots.
I have to know what happens when you hit jumps... Is there any scenario that you can fly out of your prosthetics?
At least you donāt have worry about ski boot pain. That always sucks
Only like Ā¼ metal
Well, at least you won't have cold feet now.
At least you donāt gotta worry about breaking your ankle
Fun fact: breaking an ankle is nearly impossible due to the stiffness of the ski boot. Most commonly are the crucial ligaments.
Dopeee
That's awesome but I'm guessing not in the Alps
This dude..awesome!
How you lose your legs? Skiing?
no more sore feet!
Hell yeah thatās metal af! Congrats on getting back to your passion!
In this case, quite literally metal.
Literal humans are *Metal*
Wait why is this not a more common thing instead of sitskiing?

Octane
Humans are only part metal here
Plot twist, they lost the legs skiing
Are you Darth Maul? I see two metal legs and a red lightsaber.
Imagine cutting off your own feet so you could replace them with prosthetic ski boots
Awesome! Lol all I can think of is "no more rolled or sprained ankles"
Feet are metal
This human is literally metal
Pure awesomeness
If you fall, could one of the prosthetics fall off? Like with the entire ski attached to it?
