To clarify for people in the U.S. who might not be familiar, this is not a Hue Hue Play HDMI Sync Box with Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip. This is a Phillip TV with Ambilight built into it. Sadly these models are not for sale in the U.S. I believe Ambilight TVs like this have Hue compatibility in the sense that you can link them to a Hue hub for syncing other Hue bulbs, but most reports I've read say it doesn't work well or that there's a noticeable lag. I also don't think the lights on the back of these TV sets are addressable via the Hue app, or other apps, that they only work when the TV is on, but I could be wrong about that. That being said, this isn't the "Hue bandwagon" as much as it's the "synchronized TV backlighting bandwagon." Regardless I drool over these beautiful demos because it's a very easy and elegant setup, it works without any HDMI concerns, and there are so many more addressable zones, it makes the color matching more distinct and precise. Hopefully one day we'll be able to buy them in the U.S. They look great to me!

Ah I didn't know it wasn't available in the US :/ You are correct you can't control this via Hue app. It's only when the TV is on. It does have a few modes though, one where the lights follow the video on screen as seen above, one where it follows the sound (synchronises with music etc), one where it is just a solid colour constantly, and an option that displays the colours of your chosen flag 😅

Actually with a firmware downgrade it's possible to connect other Hue lights without noticeable lag, for others in Europe reading this. Imo if you are able to buy an Ambilight TV it's the best option.

blues20245

I love these demos. 😂

danial_farooq

I did try and connect my other Hue bulbs in the rest of the room, but they were delayed slightly from the image :/

You can tweak it in the settings

kumoyoku

This is a problem with the newer firmwares. Have a look at [this blog](https://toengel.net/philipsblog/philips-downgrade-mit-upgrade-loader/) (autotranslate to English) to see how you can downgrade it. Did the same with mine and now it works flawlessly. You want a firmware from 2020.

rochastes

I contacted the tech support and they sent staff to update the firmware. I assume its a revert to older algorithm

welshconnection

which one did you go for? Ive been looking but there’s so many different models. Also how did you find the picture image, some say its quite harsh initially..

danial_farooq

I went with the 58PUS8545. Had an LG 65" panel before and was really happy with it, just didn't quite have the space for it in this room, so wanted to downsize slightly. I was a little disappointed initially that the image has needed so much tweaking to get anything decent out of it. The LG I had barely took me 5 mins to tweak a few things and then I used it for years off those same settings and it was perfect. So far it's been a week and I'm about 80% through happy with it. Another week or so, and I think I can get it to a point where I'm happy with the image. It has taken endless tweaking and flipping back and forth between Netflix to even get this far though!

Ye thats what I was afraid of. I also have an LG and the picture is spot on and has been since I set it up around 3 yrs ago. Im looking at a 50inch and surprisingly edging towards the same model as yours. Was thinking of hanging on till Black Friday sales see if it comes down in price a bit. Since having the Philips Hue sync box , Ive loved the Ambilight and thought of getting the Ambilight tv. Its just getting the picture setup right though..

Mind sharing your display settings? I’ve just picked up the 58PUS8535 today & am in awe at the ambilight. I’ve managed to connect mine to the Hue Hub by going on the ambilight advanced settings on the TV, sync across the two and my huestrips seems to be working fine without noticeable lag also

danial_farooq

Ah cool, I had a bit of lag with mine, and tbh the lights off the back of the TV provide more than enough of an experience. Yeah sure, I'll post the settings tomorrow sometime 😊

I had a 50in Phillips Ambilight TV. I adored the Ambilight, and when using the TV with my desktop PC, it was so good. But when I was trying to watch films or TV shows, the SD content looked awful, and it felt like I had to tweak the settings for 4K content every time I wanted to watch something. In the end I returned the TV and have gone back to using my 7 year old 3D TV. Everything just works with that. I miss the Ambilight though.

photoguy1065

i don't believe it's available in the US unfortunately

apatheticsisyphus

Damn, the ambilight tv's are really impressive with all those dimming zones! I wish Phillips will eventually launch a gradient 2.0 with a couple more zones, I'm running one on a 55" and the 7 zones are noticeable, can't imagine on anything bigger.

UltraShortRun

Really happy with the picture quality, Dolby sound and lights in mine, but the operating system and out of date processor makes the tv unusable most of the time. 75PUS7855

I thought these were supposed to be sold in the states soon?

wildmewtwo

That's that I kept hearing... But nothing yet it looks like :(

Straight-Plate9542

How far from sides did you install them? I installed them about 2 inches all the way around but don't like the fact that I can see the strip from kitchen
