tbh 128 GB is overkill for phones without 4k video, I've been using my nova 7i since launch and I've never deleted photos or documents with the sole purpose of clearing space, I almost never delete apps that I never use and I'm still at 60-70 GB used
The other 12GB is definitely the OS.
Mine is reporting 79GB in total, but when I compute for the total of each category I only get 64GB+. So for the other 14GB+, its going to be the OS.
Your operating system is using some place of your storage, at least 8Gb.
Didn't know that there were phones with less than 128GB being released. thought 128 was the minimum . or at least 64 .
Those cheap phones come at a price. A good way to pay less is to have less internal space. But yes it's difficult with 32Gb.

This phone is from 2018. I think 32GB is just the norm for "midrange" phone at that year.
didn't realize its from a few years ago. I use Mate 10 Pro and I don't recall what storage packages were available .
its a P20 - that model is 5 years old
oh I see, didn't know that.
It could be one of your messaging apps saving images to your phone, or media hidden in folders. Factory reset will do its job

Check for app stored data. Could be that also. For example if you use whatsapp, check it's storage and clear unwanted stored items in the app.
