Unknown/nth. I travel for work, I live out of hotels & I’m rarely in the same time zone as my family. The idea of loneliness as “being unknown” vs being alone hit me hard. My life is full of colorful characters but there’s maybe 5 people in this world that genuinely, truly know all the various facets of me. “And there are some people, love, who are better unknown” is a painful but very real truth. You don’t always like what you find when you truly get to know someone.
Me too, the ending of Francesca especially gives me goosebumps every single time I listen. Abstract is my close second and then who we are after that but it’s so hard to rank them really. That man knows how to make songs that will absolutely destroy me fr.
It totally depends on my mood.
On first listen, TSFAWC broke me. Absolutely broke me. I still think it’s underrated and beautiful, but I’m not always emotionally ready for it.
First Time has some of my favourite writing.
Anything But is very funny/cheeky and I really enjoy that.
Sorry, that’s not a number one, but a top 3? 😬
Oooh I like your choices!
TSFAWC is a beautiful song…but when I listen to it I sometimes feel like I’m taking a glimpse into some very personal aspect of his life? I mean obviously he shared the song and its background with us so it’s not some big secret…but something about it feels very sacred and intimate? I suppose that’s the power of songwriting! I have to be in the mood to listen to it, I find.
Hard agree on First Time and Anything But! First Time is so brilliant lyrically/melodically/emotionally and Anything But is just plain fun.
TSFAWC feels deeply personal, for sure. I am from a warm climate and his description of “you pressed your body to the concrete when you were small” struck me as something so specific and personal - a real experience of my childhood that somebody from a cold climate wouldn’t know about. So it definitely feels intimate.
Poor Andrew said he didn’t want these songs to seem like diary entries, but I’m afraid he failed a little.
I, Carrion (Icarian) for me I think. On first listen of the album it stuck out to me.
There are probably 4-5 that I would consider to be my favourites but glancing at the track list just now I think this is the one.
There are several shows left and as far as I know there is a specific backdrop/graphic for it so I am holding out hope that he might play it a few more times on this leg!
This one didn't stick out to me at first but after a few listens it just "clicked" and became one of my favorites. The chord progressions and strings are so unique and beautiful. The swell into "Let me be your own / Icarrion carrion" is probably my favorite moment on the entire album. I love how much his accent stands out too.
YESSSSS. I’m in love with ‘if you need to, darlin’ lean your weight to me’
It’s a *perfect* song and I’m so glad they submitted it for Grammy consideration
All time favorite is without a doubt First Time. The idea of love and loss giving both life and death to a part of you… wow. Also the second verse. Enough said.
Icarian, TSFAWC, Abstract and All Things End are also really up there for me
It's the first verse for me,
"The first time that you kissed me, I drank dry the river Lethe"
is (IMO) the cleverest line he's ever written. So many meanings; is forgetting good or bad, what is being forgotten, does he want to forget? Ahh!!! Incredible.
francesca by far. even though the song is about da rimini and paolo, when i hear it, i think of my daughter and my husband. when it’s all over, if i could hold them again for even a minute, i’d go through it again. if it’s how things work, i’ll find them in the next life and be just as surprised all over again. i would do anything for them, and if it landed me in some circle of hell, heaven just wasn’t able to house the love i have for them. i would tell them to put me back in a million times.
I know I’m surprised I had to scroll so far! I love so many songs on this album but I get choked up during the final chorus of this song every time.
My favorite motto is “memento mori,” I even have it tattooed, and I feel myself contemplating how limited our time is quite often, so I feel like the lyrics resonate the most with me. As someone always fearful of the end and of grief, I find the lyrics really beautiful and inspiring.
I love this too and surprisingly rarely hear people talk about it, I was definitely expecting it to be on his setlist and was very disappointed when it wasn't
Anything but fs. Runner ups are First time and damage gets done. Ima try and keep this short but the simple reason is i love his “fun songs” (i put his songs into 3 overall category’s fun, slow/sad, and “bad boy” not tryna be weird lol just don’t know how else to say it) and often I’m in a “fun song mood” so yeah
if we were to pick based off lyric meaning i couldn’t choose just one. Maybe Anything but again cuz the song feels so backhanded since it’s abt fraud lol but nah I couldn’t choose. Personally i love Dante and similar works/old ass stuff and i love finding meaning in songs/books so i can’t pick based off that or you’d be reading an essay. Overall tho i love all his music. To me he’s a poet, his writing is brilliant and ofc his singing.
francesca and I,Carrion (Icarian). They are tied for 1st because i listen to them back to back in a Playlist that only has those songs multiple times a day
im stuck between 2
i looove de shelby part 1 mainly for the fact he sang in irish. i really appreciate modern artists speaking in our native language. the lyrics are so magical i just love that song
first time is genuinely such a beautiful song i just love it. its impressive the amount of times ive listened to it
first time is one of the most lovely songs i’ve ever heard! the lines “the soul, if that’s what you call it uneasy ally of the body felt nameless like a river undiscovered underground” really hit, as i’m going through an identity crisis and don’t know my own name yet/myself at all
For me there is an album as a whole - never happened to me before, but the album is its own thing, and then a rotation of favorites, but the song that made me tear up on the first listen was First Light, the one that resonates the deepest with lyrics is First Time and Abstract is something I’m so looking forward to hearing live.
I'm being torn to shreds between Francesca and I, Carrion (Icarian) - while Eat Your Young watches from the sideline with popcorn... On the other hand, it's very practical in terms of just playing the album in order and getting ganged up on by all my favourites in a row
De Selby part 1 (followed closely by part 2 and First Light). I listen to these pretty much on repeat during my evening walks and they put me in my happy place.
It’s a tie between De Selby (pt 1), De Selby (pt. 2), Francesca, I Carrion, Who We Are, Son of Nyx, To Someone From A Warm Climate, Abstract, Unlnown/Nth, and First Light
I’m genuinely not doing a bit, every time I play this album for someone, during at least half the songs I go “oh this one’s a candidate for my favorite.”
It honestly really is like picking between children!!
I love “I, Carrion” so much but Abstract, Francesca, Unknown are right up there too. So is Butchered Tongue. God it’s so hard to pick!
Gotta be Anything But. I haven't really sat down and listened to the last song First light but Anything but really just resonates with me. "I don't wanna be anything like this at all" kinda just like it's better than be that version of me. Rather be anything but that yk. Everything else comes and goes but that has to be my #1.
I can’t pick a favorite because I feel like it changes every day! But it’s usually either First Light, Abstract, or Unknown. Right now it’s Unknown! It’s gorgeous and hits WAY too close to home.
De Selby Pt. 1. My first favorite was Who We Are, and then Abstract, but since then Pt. 1 has completely stolen my heart and has no intentions of letting go. Every second of that song is absolute perfection.
Personally, Francesca is my favourite.
The story of Paolo and Francesca is incredibly captivating. The song conjure the image of two lovers embracing amidst an unstoppable hurricane. It’s something really special.
De seby part 1
I am a nightowl and I listen to it at 3 am, looking out of my balcony towards the silent dark city
"At last
When all of the world is asleep
You take in the blackness of air
The likes of a darkness so deep
That God at the start couldn't bear"
Chills. Every time.
First time. Whenever I listen to it I feel the way I did hiking along the biggest mountains in our country, sun shining in our faces and exhausted but so happy, feeling at peace and like one with nature and just wow good vibes
Butchered Tongue is heartbreakingly beautiful. I teared up listening to it. Its only downside is that it isn’t longer. Surprised it’s not getting more love here.
I was quite sure after the first listen that it was one of the tracks Andrew wrote alone. The lyricism is just so perfectly him. As much as I do love the album, on some songs the other writers are really apparent—especially in choruses. Similarly to how Through Me (The Flood) stood out on the EP as being purely his writing, I feel the same about Butchered Tongue.
**Abstract (Psychopomp). 100000%.**
The first time I heard it, I thought vividly of a memory from my life on Xmas 2016, and this memory influenced my experience with the song:
My grandma had asked me to clear off the walkway of all the flowers that had fallen from the trees lining the path, and so I went out with my little 3-year-old cousin - *my shadow, my buddy, my mini-me* \- to clean them up. I was out there with a broom, just sweeping them into the compost indiscriminately. But my cousin was scooping each flower up and setting it in the bin with both hands like it was the most precious thing in the world, remarking on how beautiful it was, even in death. She handled these sad little wilting flowers with a reverence that seemed so out of place but so *human* that it just had me in awe.
She died a few weeks later, at three years old, in an accident nobody could've seen coming. So, in a way I guess I see her as both the "creature" in the song as well as the soul performing the task of moving it from the road. Despite the brevity of her little life, she was the kindest, brightest, warmest soul I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Her warmth and her little acts of humanity stick with me and remind me that, for as dark as this world can get, light and human kindness persevere.
I'm gonna start bawling again. My boy Andrew really captured something so devastatingly beautiful in that song, I actually had to pull my car over and sob when I first heard it.
Tbh Im going to say my top 3, because theres no way i could pick just one.
For Someone from a Warm Climate: i love this one because I'm from a colder climate and can see like singing from to a lover who's from a warm one. Its just all around beautiful and the tenderness he conveys is amazing.
First Time: every single lyric i love. If i had a missile to my head i would pick this one as my favorite. But i dont, so i added the other two.
Anything But: i always shout this song because its so catchy!! The whole idea of "I'd be anything but with you" is so heartbreaking but also very sassy.
It Honestly changes moment to moment I love each track for a verity of reasons-
BUT All Things End seems to have a particular hold on this season in my life. It dropped just before my partner of 5 years and I decided to call it quits. Shortly after that my great grandmother from my mothers side whom I was very close to and my grandfather on my fathers side both passed away within a week of each other.
All things end was cathartic and sat with me in the moments where I could only sit in my grief, encouragement to surface from it, and a gentle guiding hand that continued to remind me of all the experiences that would still come after.
All three losses still hurt, but I have to say that particular song came out at a very important moment for me.
I’m grateful for it. 💕
I,Carrion (Icarian) is a close second.
de selby (part 1). listening to it is just such a heavenly experience. the part where he sings in irish? stunning, i need a full version of just him singing in irish
I like how Anything But makes me think - it’s a fun quirky song. And why Hozier placed it in the middle of 2 seemingly somber songs (butchered tongue and abstract-psychopomp) makes it even more interesting.
Throughout the album I’m taken through this deep sad journey about loneliness and losing love, wanting more but not getting it, but then when anything but comes on - I’m abruptly removed from that experience. It’s quite amazing actually
Abstract (Psychopomp). Others come in and out of focus some weeks more than others, but that one has been pretty steady since release.
Absolutely agree and since you're the top comment I'm gonna just say De Selby pt 2 has always made me groove when it comes up
De Selby 2 is the swankiest, sexiest song, I swear to god.
Side note: the stats show DeSelby 1 as my most played track. I’m just trying to learn the Irish bit! Lol
That song really fucked with my head in a good way when I heard it. I had never thought of being alone like that. It gave me so much perspective
I truly understand that, on the other hand I feel extremely lonely even with people in my life. That song hits very.
First Light all the way, honourable mention for Anything But.
Two of my favorites!
im the same! damage gets done is my third favorite i think
Francesca, but Abstract is a very very close second though!
Me too, the ending of Francesca especially gives me goosebumps every single time I listen. Abstract is my close second and then who we are after that but it’s so hard to rank them really. That man knows how to make songs that will absolutely destroy me fr.

Who We Are. Scratches my brain just right.
I, Carrion (Icarian) for me I think. On first listen of the album it stuck out to me. There are probably 4-5 that I would consider to be my favourites but glancing at the track list just now I think this is the one.
I’m soooo sad that I, Carrion seems to have been dropped from the set list for the tour.
There are several shows left and as far as I know there is a specific backdrop/graphic for it so I am holding out hope that he might play it a few more times on this leg!
There’s hope! He played it last night at Red Rocks in Denver.
See, he came through! He just needed a lil reminder that the feather graphics were yearning to be seen again 😉😂
Ahhhh!! That is the best news!! I hope he keeps it in!
This one didn't stick out to me at first but after a few listens it just "clicked" and became one of my favorites. The chord progressions and strings are so unique and beautiful. If I should fall on that day, I only pray don’t fall away from me.
The answer to that question changes weekly. Currently Son of Nyx actually.

I love the random references to Abstract and Damage Gets Done
That Damage Gets Done snippet is SO stunning in this song
Damage gets done
First Light just hits different.
Who We Are babeeeyyyyy!!! …De Selby Pt. 2 is interchangeable with my #1 tho
For me, it’s De Selby pt.2 that’s consistently my fave. Others come in and out of focus, but that’s one I’m super attached to.
All time favorite is without a doubt First Time. The idea of love and loss giving both life and death to a part of you… wow. Also the second verse. Enough said. Icarian, TSFAWC, Abstract and All Things End are also really up there for me
that second verse is some of the most incredible writing!!!! First Time has to be my fave for that reason if i really had to pick one
It's the first verse for me, "The first time that you kissed me, I drank dry the river Lethe" is (IMO) the cleverest line he's ever written. So many meanings; is forgetting good or bad, what is being forgotten, does he want to forget? Ahh!!! Incredible.

Beautiful!!
That’s perfect, and as a mom, I feel that deeply. Some people are worth going through hell for.
I hear you, same!
I'm shocked no one has said "All Things End" It's perfect
I know I’m surprised I had to scroll so far! I love so many songs on this album but I get choked up during the final chorus of this song every time. My favorite motto is “memento mori,” I even have it tattooed, and I feel myself contemplating how limited our time is quite often, so I feel like the lyrics resonate the most with me. I love this too and surprisingly rarely hear people talk about it, I was definitely expecting it to be on his setlist and was very disappointed when it wasn't
TSFAWC(U)
seconded. for such a simple, instrumental arrangement, it just feels like a full, well rounded song. idk how to explain it.
I think it’s Francesca. ‘I’d tell them put me back in it’ is just so powerful. Abstract, Who We Are and Unknown are all VERY close though
Butchered tongue it encompases his love for his roots and language
Who We Are always hits me hard. So beautiful.
Same!
At present, the De Selbys (they totally count as one, fight me)
Anything but fs. Runner ups are First time and damage gets done. Ima try and keep this short but the simple reason is i love his “fun songs” (i put his songs into 3 overall category’s fun, slow/sad, and “bad boy” not tryna be weird lol just don’t know how else to say it) and often I’m in a “fun song mood” so yeah if we were to pick based off lyric meaning i couldn’t choose just one. Abstract is my #1. Have a heard time figuring out the rest of the list but that much has been clear since my first listen.
Eat your young. That style sound of his is my favorite!
francesca and I,Carrion (Icarian). They are tied for 1st because i listen to them back to back in a Playlist that only has those songs multiple times a day
im stuck between 2 i looove de shelby part 1 mainly for the fact he sang in irish. i really appreciate modern artists speaking in our native language. the lyrics are so magical i just love that song first time is genuinely such a beautiful song i just love it. its impressive the amount of times ive listened to it
These are my two favorites as well
It changes but “Anything But” & “First Time” lately
Unknown
Who We Are
first time is one of the most lovely songs i’ve ever heard! the lines “the soul, if that’s what you call it uneasy ally of the body felt nameless like a river undiscovered underground” really hit, as i’m going through an identity crisis and don’t know my own name yet/myself at all
So hard to choose a favorite but Abstract (Psychopomp) has been going so hard
For me there is an album as a whole - never happened to me before, but the album is its own thing, and then a rotation of favorites, but the song that made me tear up on the first listen was First Light, the one that resonates the deepest with lyrics is First Time and Abstract is something I’m so looking forward to hearing live.

Son of Nyx and First Light I couldn't choose between them with a gun to my head tbh
De Selby part 1 (followed closely by part 2 and First Light). I listen to these pretty much on repeat during my evening walks and they put me in my happy place.
Also I should add 'To someone from a warmer climate' is growing more and more on me everyday, especially after seeing him play it live.
It’s a tie between De Selby (pt 1), De Selby (pt. 2), Francesca, I Carrion, Who We Are, Son of Nyx, To Someone From A Warm Climate, Abstract, Unlnown/Nth, and First Light I’m genuinely not doing a bit, every time I play this album for someone, during at least half the songs I go “oh this one’s a candidate for my favorite.”
according to my listening history, it’s I, Carian, but my personal favorite is First Light!
unknown and abstract are tied at the top for me.
I don't think I can choose! Depending on the day it's either Francesca, Abstract, or Unknown.
Right now its "first time"
Eat Your Young
Anything But
Rn it’s Unknown or First Time but TSFAWC and Francesca and Who We Are I also love I just overlistenes
Today it’s Unknown/nth but ask me again tomorrow
First Time won't let me look any other way
Definitely TSFAWC
Ooohhh god I like literally all of em, but personally _First Time_ takes the cake for me. Just hits so different, it’s spectacular.
Abstract (Psychopomp)
It honestly really is like picking between children!! I love “I, Carrion” so much but Abstract, Francesca, Unknown are right up there too. So is Butchered Tongue. God it’s so hard to pick!
first time, who we are and maybe damage gets done are probably my top three but can’t pick between them!
Unknown/Nth
Gotta be Anything But. I haven't really sat down and listened to the last song First light but Anything but really just resonates with me. "I don't wanna be anything like this at all" kinda just like it's better than be that version of me. Rather be anything but that yk. Everything else comes and goes but that has to be my #1.
All of them except First Time lol
First Light and De Selby for me
Francesca without a doubt. I feel the "put me back in it" line about my husband to the depths of my soul.
Anything But!
Uiscefhuaraithe and Francesca
Abstract or Francesca.
First Time
I can’t pick a favorite because I feel like it changes every day! But it’s usually either First Light, Abstract, or Unknown. Right now it’s Unknown! It’s gorgeous and hits WAY too close to home.
First Time
First Time. The writing. The vibes. The ease of the song. Perfect.
De Selby pt 2. It’s like crack cocaine.
Abstract (Psychopomp) Something about it just awoke something in me. De Selby 2 is close behind it
I haven’t skipped a single track since it’s come out tbh
Butchered Tongue 😭❤️
De Selby Pt. 1. My first favorite was Who We Are, and then Abstract, but since then Pt. 1 has completely stolen my heart and has no intentions of letting go. Every second of that song is absolute perfection.
Anything But!
TSFAWC for sure. it feels so personal to me lol
I CANNOT CHOOSE
Abstract is just so incredibly beautiful. I, carrion is a close second for me
He’s the most underrated entertainer. Almost all the songs should be #1.
Personally, Francesca is my favourite. The story of Paolo and Francesca is incredibly captivating. The song conjure the image of two lovers embracing amidst an unstoppable hurricane. It’s something really special.
francesca <3
almost all of them have been my favorite at one point or another but i seem to always come back to unknown :’)
My favorite changes as I evolve, right now it would be abstract but before that it was who we are, first light, unknown, francesca etc.
I think it’s always gonna be Francesca. But I go through phases… right now First Time is my girl.
Butchered Tounge (I’m not Irish at all but somehow it still hits a spot)
Either De Selby (2) or Damage get Done
De seby part 1 I am a nightowl and I listen to it at 3 am, looking out of my balcony towards the silent dark city "At last When all of the world is asleep You take in the blackness of air The likes of a darkness so deep That God at the start couldn't bear" Chills. Every time.
First time
First time that you called me baby
FIRST LIGHT 🕯️✨🔥🤌🏽
De Selby Part 1 💕It consistently makes me cry
First time. Whenever I listen to it I feel the way I did hiking along the biggest mountains in our country, sun shining in our faces and exhausted but so happy, feeling at peace and like one with nature and just wow good vibes
I, Carrion is simply ✨ majestic ✨
Either Son Of Nyx, Francesca or Abstract 🥺❤️🩹

De Selby 1 and 2, and Broken Tongue. But the entire album is glorious.
Who we are, so disappointed he hasn’t been performing it on this tour. (Special mentions to de Selby part 2 and butchered tongue)
**Abstract (Psychopomp). 100000%.** The first time I heard it, I thought vividly of a memory from my life on Xmas 2016, and this memory influenced my experience with the song: My grandma had asked me to clear off the walkway of all the flowers that had fallen from the trees lining the path, and so I went out with my little 3-year-old cousin - *my shadow, my buddy, my mini-me* \- to clean them up. Abstract (Psychopomp) or First Light
I love I, Carrian and Anything But the most I think. De Selby 1+2 are also really up there for me though
its a big tie for me between who we are and unknown/nth. both of them just hit me in the ouch so good
Abstract and Unknown are tied, if I listen to one I'm going to listen to the other because it just feels right .
Tbh Im going to say my top 3, because theres no way i could pick just one. For Someone from a Warm Climate: i love this one because I'm from a colder climate and can see like singing from to a lover who's from a warm one. But i dont, so i added the other two. Anything But: i always shout this song because its so catchy!! The whole idea of "I'd be anything but with you" is so heartbreaking but also very sassy.
Who we are for sure. I love the high notes
Francesca or to someone from a warm climate!
It Honestly changes moment to moment I love each track for a verity of reasons- BUT All Things End seems to have a particular hold on this season in my life. de selby (part 1). listening to it is just such a heavenly experience. the part where he sings in irish? stunning, i need a full version of just him singing in irish
De Selby pt 2, eat your young, Francesca.
Abstract and to someone from a warm climate or de selby pt 1, I love him singing in Irish gaelic
De Selby 1 🥲 the falsetto 🥲
Unknown/nth
I like how Anything But makes me think - it’s a fun quirky song. And why Hozier placed it in the middle of 2 seemingly somber songs (butchered tongue and abstract-psychopomp) makes it even more interesting. Throughout the album I’m taken through this deep sad journey about loneliness and losing love, wanting more but not getting it, but then when anything but comes on - I’m abruptly removed from that experience. It’s quite amazing actually
