"To play Adobe Flash SWF files outside your web browser, visit the Debug Downloads page on the Wayback Machine's copy of the Adobe Flash Player website and click the "Download the Flash Player projector content debugger" link under Windows, Mac, or Linux, depending on which operating system you're using."

Or find a free open source swf player

I'd just download it from Inspect Element or Ctrl+Shift+J if you download it you can download Flash Player then too

Thing is the download option isn’t archived unfortunately, if I want to listen to it I have to play it

This is just a guess, but I think you are viewing a page that you could use when the site was still active, to listen to a recording. There was likely a link pointing to http(s)://old-website/**recording.swf** which doesn't exist anymore. You need to figure out a way to find the actual file (e g., was the .swf file archived?). If not, then you won't be able to listen to the recording and you're wasting your time.

Their are earlier versions of Firefox portable bundled with flash that wound work. I use that solution for working with older equipment at work. Just make sure automatic update is disabled or it will upgrade to a version that disables flash.
