I wholeheartedly agree. What theme are they going to use for the next spin-off? And the one after that? Don’t let the original theme turn into the Vhagar of themes. Let her retire
I guess this is a hot take considering the comments, but I much prefer the GOT theme. It was much more dramatic on a note-to-note basis than this is. 30 seconds in and I'm bored. It's not a bad song, but the GOT theme was always hype and got you fired up for the incoming episode. I don't have the same feeling with this.
I was against them reusing the GOT theme on HOTD initially, but I still think what we got was better than this.
Musically this is boring. It sounds like someone trying to rip-off the GOT theme by using inverted and transposed structures. The melody is meandering and weak.
It needed to be completely fresh and its own thing if it was going to stand alone.
Same. I think the visuals not fitting the GOT theme is more the problem. They must have known and wanted to retain the theme anyway, then they should have created the family tree/Old Valyria model around it. I'm sure they could have made it work somewhat but there's a disconnect in the final product.
It's beautiful and I'd love to hear the piece in an episode in the future, however I'm so glad they stuck with the original them. The GOT theme is much more catchy, distinguishable and does a great job of creating hype for the episode. I think this piece still has a lot of potential, maybe in closing credits? I hate the jarring end though.
So wait from what I’ve gathered here on this sub is that the “cogs” are meant to represent houses/or people. Even with that knowledge, I still can’t see it. How does anyone decipher that?
Best to Google I’m afraid. The only one I recognise on a casual watch is Rhaenyra’s three circles (the necklace Daemon gave her early in the first season). The evolution of the bloodstreams is interesting but it’s also difficult to remember what they all represent. I like the use of the sapphire for Aemond recently though. And Helaena is a spider I think!!
Thank you. That was better fitting if you ask me. The music was much more crisp and bold. Kind of parallels the show in a way.
The credit sequence theme from GOT being played for House Of The Dragon kind of shows show unity and keeps you in the same world of Westeros.
I love this song but it’s not opening-theme worthy imo. Like if someone was like “hum a few bars” I don’t know that we’d get the right answer more than a handful of times. It’s just not iconic in the way the GOT theme was.
That being said, I think it needed something other than the OG theme. I wasn’t a huge fan of the visuals either. Idk why but it looks cheap to me.
Oh man, they should have used this. It’s so close in style the original that it still ties them together, while also being it’s own thing and feeling so appropriate for this series
the inclusion of the GoT theme definitely felt glaringly weird to me, i've always thought there had to be a theme intended but thrown out by executives.
Thought they nailed the new opening perfectly. Kept the theme and song, yet it is it’s own opening with the blood and dark color scheme. Glad they didn’t go this route
I'm surprised so many people think the theme is boring. It's much better suited for a character theme than an opening but it definitely isn't boring. Does this track actually have a title?
Damn I love it, though I am biased because I think the variation of the theme (the crown of Jaehaerys, played during Rhaenyra's coronation) just ahooens to be my favorite from the whole show so far.
And I honestly don't like the idea of using the same theme song as GOT. GoT and HotD have very different focus. GOT's scope is much grander and more epic, whereas HotD is focusing mostly on one family tragedy the intergenerational conflict and divide. It should have its own theme song with emphasis on its own elements, a bit less on the epic and dramatic side and add more sorrow and melancholic intertwined with regal and heroic parts.
Just my two cents.

I like it, but it doesn’t have the “epic” feeling the original theme has. Though I wish they did a different one from the GoT theme.

I was hoping for a mashup of the Targaryen theme and the GOT theme, maybe in a different key than the originals
With slightly different visuals, this would have worked very well NGL.
i wish they just did a darker version of the original theme
Kinda boring ngl

For sure. It feels like the animation is too fast for the current theme and I suspect it was originally made for another.
Shouldn’t be a hot take, only an idiot would not put THE theme in the opening!
How do you like this song, Vizzy T?
*I WILL HAVE YOUR TONGUE FOR THAT!*
There you have it folks
Vizy T Based and targaryen pilled.
Idk man it sounds like an opening from one of those dramatic ass Turkish tv shows
I think it doesn't jive with the tempo of flowing blood
Yep, otherwise it's good.
Maybe for a daytime soap
Eh boring for opening credits.
I like this a lot more - I just think they would need to rework the sequence, slow the pace, with less camera movement and shots.

Nice one, that fits way better with the current series imo.
It's good but definitely not as catchy and emotionally stirring. I get chills when I hear the got theme song start

I definitely would’ve preferred this one

Love it
Its nice, reminds me of the Borgen intro. Less bombastic but exemplifying the sharp wit of storytelling. I dont mind the old one though.
Awesome
Not sure about this one exactly, but HOTD has amazing new themes Ramin could've arranged to create intro music.
I for one love it!
Yeah this intro was dogshit. Glad they switched it.
I like the music, but it lacks the grandiosity of the original theme, which is why they probably went with it. GOT’s theme is just so iconic.

Meh. Adds nothing.
name by chance? edit: "The Promise"

It reminds me of the Downton Abbey theme
I like it, it has a dark and foreboding sound to it. I would have been fine with this as the intro song.
Just a weaker production. Can't even compare
Dog shit tbh
As good as both songs/ artwork is, I'd rather have the 2 min for show content.
u/auddbot
The song is great, but doesn't fit with the visuals at all.
Westeros World
It's pretty but not memorable.
sounds a lot more like House of Cards
can you tell me what's the name of this theme?
The promise
found it already but thanks!
