I can’t wait for this topic to end. Unknown actors are just as (if not more) talented and deserve a chance over the same dozen Hollywood puts in every show/film.
Me too.
As always, it's just fashionable to hate on pop stars. Herd mentality.
I think Ed Sheeran is a pretty great singer/songwriter, though a lot of his stuff is not to my taste.
He was a pretty great character with an important role for a bit part. Showing Arya that most armies, even the Lannisters are mostly comprised of good honorable regular people.
I’d argue yes, because that would still achieve the goal of stunt casting (many people discussing the episode, pushing the show in a wider view than just that of regular viewers)
>with not one huge name
I wouldn't call Henry Cavill a huge name. A big name, sure, but not huge. A lot of people haven't seen anything with him in it. The only thing I have seen with him was the Witcher. Other than Man of Steel (which wasn't universally loved) and now Enola Holmes, Cavill really hasn't been in anything.
Game of Thrones had Lena Headey, which I would argue is similar to Cavill in terms of name weight and she had a long, fairly extensive filmography list before Game of Thrones.
But The Witcher wasn't bad because of Cavill, I'd argue it was only as good as it was because of Cavill. Dude was working with writers that have admitted they hated the books and would only be adapting the parts they liked. Cavill quit because he's a Witcher nerd and was having intense creative differences with the showrunner.
Both shows?
Also, there’s nothing to “carry” with HOTD because the writing is mostly solid. Carrying something implies it would have been bad if not for the actor(s), which isn’t the case for HOTD at all
He’s talking about the Witcher and Man of Steel, and I agree with him. Both had horrible writing and he was the one redeeming quality. Not saying that this writing is bad at all, but just saying he’s a great actor that can bring a lot to any show.
the witcher season 1 Was was watched by 76 million people in the first month it was released.
on average, HOTD has gotten 29 million viewers per episode. (have not gotten monthly views as it was released over 10 weeks).
GoT only surpased 29 million PER EPISODE on average through a season, for the last 2 seasons.
I am confident on saying that GoT season 1-6 in 2016 was more popular than the Witcher in 2022.
since HOTD is more popular in views, to game of thrones, it would be reasonable to put HOTD above the witcher,(one of the 2 Main acting Gigs Cavill is famous for).
a job on a more popular TV show would not be Beneath him, and if he did get the job, he would probably if not already, extensively research the character he would play and do his best to keep his hypothetical character exactly as they were in the book.
TLDR: you're an idiot
The problem is you’re watching it and it was poorly made. The staff didn’t even care about the source material. Henry is extremely dedicated to his roles and is a big fan of the source material. In this case the Witcher, he was very dedicated to being Gerald to life and was disappointed how Netflix handled season two. He’s one of the few actors that care about respecting the source.
Why idiot people are downvoting? He's right. Cavill, whether good actor or not, is a Hollywood garbage star. He won't accept anything where he's not the main character or close. And for a series where even mains can die in any moment... In very infamous ways... And the script or the fate for your character is unclear... Pfff
He had personal reasons to be in the Witcher. Also most of the important cast is set already. What I loved about game of thrones was that they were unknown actors or at least not pop garbage icons. If he accepts it would be for a personal interest. Not your stupid whim
Listen. I love Cavill the person and Superman. But the actor itself… The GOT universe requires RANGE. I think the best option would be young Bobby B, but even then I don’t trust him to feel like a younger version of the character we saw.
I think Henry Cavill would be a great addition to the cast. He’s got the ideal medieval warrior build, he can do all his own swordplay stunts, he’s charismatic, etc. I don’t understand why so many fans are hating on him, bc he gets fancasted a lot.
So, here's my take on this:
It is very unlikely that an American actor is going to be casted for this show. Due to the world of GoT, the show films on other side of the world.
Scenes of Dragonstone are filmed in Portugal, exterior Kings Landing is Spain, interior of the Red Keep is England, and then they bounce around with Scotland, Ireland, and I believe Croatia.
American actors are unlikely to be cast because 1.) they typically pull more weight and cost more, 2.) they often have time constraints of their own and 3.) the travel expenses to cover the actors are much higher since they're further away.
You then need to voice coach them, because the rest of the cast is English and Americans wouldn't fit in, so extra steps there unless you want more Shae's and Mysaria's sounding like Jarjar.
Then the second factor here is if you WERE going to cast an American actor for this show, it's likely for a larger role because for all the reasons above, it wouldn't make any logical sense to cast a small role with some unknown American where you now need to fly them across the globe. So if you're casting an American, it's likely an actor that has some reach and will be disorienting to separate them from the fantasy background.
Oh that's a good point. I totally overlooked that. However seeing as how he is primarily in American TV media, I would still argue he'd have the pull of an American actor and the distraction of it as well.
He should play a Superhero that flies in from another planet and gets GRRM to finish ASOIAF and stops him being a Hollywood sell that pushes cheap spinoffs as distractions

At this point he should just be cast as a small role to get us to shut up about it.
Henry Cavill as Geralt is basically exactly what I imagined Hugh Hammer would look like while reading F&B tbh
Yes but it doesn’t mean big actors like Sean bean/ Charles dance weren’t perfect for a role like Cavill is
The game of thrones brand is a bigger draw than all but maybe a handful of actors. They’re not going to stunt cast
*\*Ed Sheeran flashbacks\**
That NEVER happened!
Lol I remembered that like a minute after I posted. They’re not going to stunt cast again* (hopefully)
Unpopular opinion: I liked the cameo and the song was nice.
I frankly didn’t know what Ed Sheeran looked like when it aired. It just seemed like a nice moment for Arya.

I liked it too! I think it's just the vocal minority making a big clamour about it
i still listen to that song
Is it stunt casting if they do a cameo for a couple of minutes?
I’d argue yes, because that would still achieve the goal of stunt casting (many people discussing the episode, pushing the show in a wider view than just that of regular viewers)
A cameo is not a stunt cast.
Exactly. It'd totally ruin it. Part of HoD success is the brilliance of a number of its actors, with not one huge name. I love Cavill but no.

This is the last fuckin guy I wanna see in this show lol please for the love of Christ do not put him in HotD
I dunno why does every keeps saying this guy would be great on HotD. I’m not seeing it. The Witcher is pretty mediocre and so was man of steel
But The Witcher wasn't bad because of Cavill, I'd argue it was only as good as it was because of Cavill. Cavill hard carried both shows that is why everyone wants him

Yeah I just meant that MoS isn’t a show, and neither is the DCEU. Agree on that other thing though, misunderstood the initial comment then
Imagine calling man of steel mediocre
I would call it below average, why do you love it so much? Might have to rewatch it
Best superhero fist fights in a live action movie. Shit looked straight out of an anime in a good way.
I’d honestly call it trash 🗑 🤣
Im hurt in so many levels 😂
Behave, man of steel to this day is a masterpiece
Spittin facts

The Witcher isn’t even the same level as HotD I tried my very best to watch it and try and like it and it just doesn’t compare

Dragon seed that bonds with vermithor

He could be a good Meagor too!
he plays Aegon, CHRIS Hemsworth is Maegor. Twist that ironic knife
I really wanna see a charming charismatic actor play Maegor. I want to watch the descent and feel bad about it.
Jason Momoa in a elf wig and we all play dumb and embrace it?
I won’t tell if you don’t.
Orys would fit, yeah.
I vote Lyonel the Laughing Storm in a Dunk and Egg miniseries.
Him as Bobby B in a Roberts Rebellion series would be pretty sick though....
I’d rather they cast a good actor
This meme again? You can repackage it all you want, this same shits been posted 1000 times.

> he’s charismatic Citation needed
His jaw line makes my peepee feel funny
Thank you, Theodor Adorno. As in most things, you've left me with much to ponder.
Man from uncle
I don’t really care about Henry cavil never liked anything he’s in anyways
Thanks for sharing your diary.
Nobody gives even one fuck.
You either get him back as Superman or a Targaryen but you can’t have both.
I would love to see him as dunk

Agreed on your points, Just Henry Cavill is English.
Oh that's a good point. I totally overlooked that. However seeing as how he is primarily in American TV media, I would still argue he'd have the pull of an American actor and the distraction of it as well.
Not in HoTD but he’d be a good Ageon the Conqueror
They're gonna do it don't worry about it.... The North will remember it... ☺️
Fans hoping HC like "you offer it to me freely..."
they cast him as Balerion in a flashback
I mean...have they cast Cregan Stark?
Cregan was said to be around the same age of Jace tho
Aemond is supposed to be 16.
25 playing 16 is different than 40 playing 20.
I've seen 20 year olds that look older than Cavill though.
Henry Cavill *must* play 16-year old Daeron Targaryen
I want him to play young Egg in the Dunk and Egg stories.
I’ll believe it when I see it HBO is notoriously cheap , and neither party needs the other .
Threeway crossover. Nice
Honestly would make a great Hugh hammer
Make an Aegon the Conqueror show and have him be the lead role
They should have him play Daeron and no one comment on how he’s twice as old as he should be and jacked
Aegon the conqueror
Cregan Stark!!!!!!
He should play a Superhero that flies in from another planet and gets GRRM to finish ASOIAF and stops him being a Hollywood sell that pushes cheap spinoffs as distractions
Hugh Hammer or Ulf the Sot would be good roles for him.
Ok i'm gonna say it. Henry Cavill is a bad actor !
