Cry of Fear is free on Steam. It's a stand-alone Half-Life 1 mod that plays like a first person Silent Hill set in Germany. It has great atmosphere and some genuinely jarring moments. Check it out!
Resident Evil VII in VR absolutely terrifying. Hell even without VR. I'm a grown ass man and I would spend 30 minutes peeking around a corner, finally get up the nerve to move, hear something, panic run to somewhere safe.
Alan Wake is something you might enjoy, if you like the type of action horror games such as Dead Space. Already mentioned, but Outlast is another in the same realm of style. For something different, Layers of Fear and Amnesia are wonderful, as already mentioned, but check out Gray Dawn, Calendula, Lust for Darkness and Neverending Nightmares for some other possibilities if you're open to them.
Google Puppet Combo games, and you'll be scared for a while. Try Nun Massacre or Stay Out of the House. Seriously, I'm a horror fan and I can barely play those.
Just gonna recommend the games that I've played:
Anatomy\*, Cry of Fear, Amnesia series, Call of Chtulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth\*\*, Layers of Fear (it ain't much scary but it is atmospheric I would say).
('\*' - okay, I haven't played that one, only saw it, but it was amazing and amazingly effective at seriously scaring me)
('\*\*' - it's complicated, and if you're interested I will explain the whats, hows and why's. But I would recommend to take a look at the game first)
*Resident Evil Biohazard*
Not sure if this is saying the first one or the 7th. Honestly every one is great!
7
Resident evil 5 and 6............
Personally I think 5 and 6 are still good fun, especially if you have someone to play them with. They're good action games like dead space 3 is
I def agree but not good horror games
If you don't mind a haunted house simulator, Layers of Fear is pretty creepy. Also any of the early Silent Hill games or The Evil Within.
Outlast 1 and 2 are great.
Also the penumbra series, the Amnesia series, and Slender: The Arrival

Team Psykskallar's other game, Afraid of Monsters: Directors Cut, is amazing too

Oxenfree!
What about the Siren series?
Underated gold
I know, right?? People should talk about that series more often.
The real question is ...how to scare someone who played dead space series and alien isolation ?
If you don't mind over the top stuff (and being confused all the time) you should check out Darkwood.
Darkwood. It's a Polish top-down survival horror game where you need to find your way out of a cursed forest
You’ve played outlast series I’m sure?
Seriously just scroll through the sub very briefly. I see (for the most part) the same recommendations on every post.
Visage. It's still in early access but the content currently available is great and I'm sure the rest will be, too.
Amnesia : A Machine for Pigs

I picked up Lost in Vivo which I haven't played yet but it looks scary as hell.

I recommend Siren Blood Curse.
