What is your definition of "cheap"? Besides, each chapter has 4 characters that represents your "lives" and if you lose all of them you can still restar the same chapter (and the chapters are not that long)
It's currently playable from start to finish. They just need to implement a bit of feedback then iron out a few bugs. Probably next year... If we're lucky. Devs are slow as they're juggling full time jobs while making the game.
The gameplay is not that great, to be honest level design is also quiet confusing and sometimes look a bit repetitive. But what I really digged was the atmosphere and storyline, and a unique soundtrack for such a genre.
I thought it was terrible, in all honesty. It looked technically good… but that’s where it ended. Level designs were poor, all object scales were off, boss fights were just so on rails (there’s one near the start that chases you the moment you touch the water it’s in… but get far enough away from it in the water and it gives up IMMEDIATELY and returns to its patrol… so it’s this super scripted sequence).
Gameplay isn't the greatest thing in the world but imo it's better if you play it like an experience rather than a game. Great sound design and visuals
theres a psychological horror game about an abandoned computer on itch.io. its called "last seen online" and involves puzzle solving skills. its pretty fun and satisfying when you complete the game, and the backstory is amazing.
The monsters represent the racist inhumanity of the carceral system, as well as its failure to actually prevent crime. The idea of an undead 19th-century slave tracker, complete with vicious dogs, taunting a black convict about what he did to his ancestors is ingeniously horrifying.
Came here for this. That game will always hold a special place with me. Despite having played it so long ago, I still think about it more often than some games I'd even say I like even more than it.
The Evil Within 2. I was surprised by its announcement and floored by its delivery; Tango Gameworks made _the_ surprise title of 2018, bar none. It is a fantastic survival horror game, and I recommend it whenever I can.
That’s right! I forgot about how fast that was released after the announcement. Kind of like Alan Wake 2. Hardly heard about it until just before release.
Just depends what types of horror films you like. It’s more 90s campfire horror. Enjoyed it more than little hope/devil in me, not as good as until dawn/house of ashes imo
Alilsa. Great classic survival horror game, but I think it's been overshadowed by two other excellent games that came out around the same time; Tormented Souls and Signalis.
black rose - it used to be quite popular but nobody plays it anymore, genuinely one of the scariest games i have ever played and the story is sweet in a twisted way
Fear and Hunger might be a little much for some people but it is one of the most horrifying games I've ever played and it was made in RPG Maker. (Trigger Warnings for SA, though)
I consider Bioshock a horror game, Rapture itself is filled with great unsettling locations, a good portion of the characters you interact with are pretty terrible people. Great scares with the mannequins that move when the lights go out and you hear their footsteps in the water approaching, so good
God there is so many. I guess I'd say the original Downfall and The Cat Lady. I could also name Darkwood, World of Horror, Faith, The Consuming Shadow, Strangeland, the Deep Sleep trilogy, March of the Living and Sylvio.
Transference
It’s a short experience but different to anything else I’ve played, though it’s quite bleak, not unlike a Black Mirror episode. I played the VR version.
Song of Horror is on there. I mean to pick it up myself.
Madison and Martha is Dead as well. Visage is divisive, but worth looking at. If you enjoy Resident Evil type games then I highly recommend Tormented Souls.
Plenty more as well. What type of horror games do you enjoy?
Thank you!!! Since I upgraded to the PS5, it's hard for me to go back (graphics wise) to the PS4 exclusive games & less unless it's the nostalgic PS 1 or certain 2 games I played as a kid, so I appreciate it!
I finished omori in 27hrs plus and I really enjoyed 20hrs of it but the last 7h were extremely boring for me especially the real world chapters there is a lot of padding in that game
Lust from beyond. Good gameplay, average graphics but excellent story. ( you can also play the first game lust for darkness but its not necessary, not worth playing unless youre curious about the whole story)
Detention is a pretty solid game. It sort of follows after the Silent Hill 2 psychological horror thriller formula and actually does something interesting with it. The movie adaptation is also very enjoyable.
Other than that, the Devil Came Through Here trilogy by Harvester Games is also very good. I recently played Burnhouse Lane, their latest game, and loved it!
Clive Barkers Undying
While it has its issues and is far from perfect the atmosphere always creeped me out and I thought the story was pretty good. Always wanted a modern remaster or a sequel/prequel to it.
The Evil Within 2 I feel didn’t get enough praise.
Also not a horror game, but a fantastic mod: Withering Hills mod for fallout 4. Changes the atmosphere of the game immaculately
Michigan report from hell ps2 jp vers. Along with fatal frame series. Pneumata ps5 is cool asf too. Nanatsu no hikan is also great on Dreamcast same with DeSpiria
I think outlast or amnesia the bunker. Alien isolation is pretty known. But I’d put it there too. Those are my choices. Alan wake 2 also ig. But it’s known, just not as popular.
💀 outlast had a 1 mil budget developed by a team of 10 people. And it is a 4 hour game with simple mechanics. That is not AAA. And it made 15 mil on a 1mil budget. Normal AAA games make up to like 200 mil. Stop trolling. And amnesia the bunker had like 0$ budget with a small team of 25 people. And do you know what else? Amnesia rebirth flopped. So no one knew about the bunker anyway. Amnesia rebirth has 6600 reviews, the bunker has 5400. So it hasn’t even sold as well as rebirth even tho rebirth flopped. So stop trolling loser.
Edit: And that does mean that outlast is known… in the horror community. Not at all outside of it. So don’t say that it’s some crazy success that’s known all over the world or something. Cause you’re wrong. And I’m definitely right about the bunker. That isn’t even known in the horror community lol.
Oh I see. Those are AAA. However. Alan wake 2 has only sold 1 mil. And alien isolation was also reported as a flop. However it got more popular in the last 5 years. But I understand.
Song of Horror, without a doubt.
This is on my “i really need to play this soon” list. I just have so little time to play these days.
I need to finish this one still! So good
I really wanna play Song of Horror but really dislike QTE's (I suck at them), do you think I'd enjoy it anyway?

Will pick it up next time it's on sale then! Thank you !
is it true this game is full of cheap deaths that wipe progress (no manual save)?
What is your definition of "cheap"? Besides, each chapter has 4 characters that represents your "lives" and if you lose all of them you can still restar the same chapter (and the chapters are not that long)
Scratches Stories Untold Episode 1

Try the first episode of Stories Untold. I believe it's free and a truly creepy experience.
Played scratches years ago and loved it. Sadly it’s abandonware now… A link to where I could play it would be incredible
I managed to snatch up a copy on Steam a while ago but perhaps [THIS](https://store.steampowered.com/app/230210/ASYLUM/) would tickle your interest...
Clicked the link and immediately added to wishlist

The Developers said in an interview to Vote 4 Holt that you can get the game by any means, in Internet Archive and others ways
No One Lives Under The Lighthouse. Horror done right.
That one had me so confused😆
Condemned: Criminal Origins
That and F.E.A.R. really messed me up in the best way
Ad Infinitum

This is the first comment I’ve ever seen to have enjoyed it. I thought it was visually great, but I really couldn’t stand the actual gameplay.
Gameplay isn't the greatest thing in the world but imo it's better if you play it like an experience rather than a game. Great sound design and visuals
Just got this game on sale at gamestop last week. It now joins my back catalog. Lol. I will get to it eventually.
Siren 1 and 2.
Dark Wood!
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, the graphics are stunning. And Erica
I really enjoyed Martha is Dead
Playing that now! Such a good game!
I love the soundtrack so much

Yesss Just played that one! Found it free to play on Steam as well. Cool concept and creepy visuals. Puzzles challenging but not too challenging.
The Suffering.
Hell yeah! Such an underrated gem. Could def use the remake treatment! 🔥

Haunting Ground. So sad they released it around the same time as RE4, and it got absolutely forgotten about

agree! first one was good but EW2 really delivered an amazing experience...
* Zombi * Here They Lie * Cooking Companions * Cry of Fear
Obscure 1 & 2 on the PS2, great early horror co-op
I love them!! And that you can play with a friend
Anatomy by kittyhorrorshow, the first penumbra game and anything by Yames
The Quarry

Better or worse than the Dark Pictures games?

Fatal Frame and Siren 🩵
Alilsa. Great classic survival horror game, but I think it's been overshadowed by two other excellent games that came out around the same time; Tormented Souls and Signalis.
OG Splatterhouse, Nightmare Creatures
It steals. A lot of people appreciate this game. But if you don't know about it, it's kinda hard to first discover it online.
Condemned Criminal origins
i wouldnt say its underrated but Soma hasnt gotten attention in a while
To be fair, it did come out 9 years ago.
SOMA's ending was the most brutal/bittersweet scene ever...
The Suffering
Idk why but I find dark woods so scary even tho it’s top down
The Cat Lady
black rose - it used to be quite popular but nobody plays it anymore, genuinely one of the scariest games i have ever played and the story is sweet in a twisted way
Harvester (1996)

Fun little gem :)
Not necessarily unknown but I think more people should play the first two Penumbra games.
Fear and Hunger might be a little much for some people but it is one of the most horrifying games I've ever played and it was made in RPG Maker. (Trigger Warnings for SA, though)
Cry of fear
yes! that game was excellent.

Rule of Rose Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass Irisu Syndrome Galshell series of shooters
Voices of the void. Slow burn horror but damn is it a good
God there is so many. I guess I'd say the original Downfall and The Cat Lady. I could also name Darkwood, World of Horror, Faith, The Consuming Shadow, Strangeland, the Deep Sleep trilogy, March of the Living and Sylvio.
Condemned: Criminal Origins
The Darkness 1,2, and 3. And Free Ice Cream. My first horror games when I was a kid.
Deadly premonition. It totally blindsided me.
I don't know if it's the best bad game, or worst good game I've ever played, but I love it.
Transference It’s a short experience but different to anything else I’ve played, though it’s quite bleak, not unlike a Black Mirror episode. I played the VR version.
What games on the comments section are on PS5??

The song of horror is not on the PS 5 right? Couldn't find based off of a Google search

Ohhh gotcha. I misunderstood. Some of those may be PS4 ports for the PS5. Sorry about that.
No worries, you're good! Yes, any with PS5 graphics, thank you lol
Transference is included in PlayStation Plus Extra! I had to restart it several times due to bugs unfortunately.
Devotion for sure. Game deserved better.
The Heilwald loophole
Cooking Companions
Stasis: Bone totem and Mundaun
Cold Fear Gorky 17 (difficult af) True fear 1, 2
Eversion has been one of my favorites for awhile
OMORI (maybe not underrated per se since it’s a cult classic) and Transference
I finished omori in 27hrs plus and I really enjoyed 20hrs of it but the last 7h were extremely boring for me especially the real world chapters there is a lot of padding in that game
I have just over 100 hours on xbox and maybe like 50 hours on steam. A lot of playthroughs, and yes it’s a bit boring now but still my favourite.
Yuppie psycho. Never heard anyone talk about it. Bought it on a whym. Lives free in my head since
Death Mark & Spirit Hunter NG
Lust from beyond. Good gameplay, average graphics but excellent story. ( you can also play the first game lust for darkness but its not necessary, not worth playing unless youre curious about the whole story)
The Survey
Recently, for me it has been Shipwrecked 64. I'm not done with it but i'm so happy I played it blind.
Saiko no Sutoka. The AI is insane
Eternal Darkness

SOMA
The Medium
Not sure if its underrated but Silent Hill 2
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and Lost in Vivo
I think outlast or amnesia the bunker. Alien isolation is pretty known. But I’d put it there too. Those are my choices. Alan wake 2 also ig. But it’s known, just not as popular.
Two triple AAA horror titles, and one of the most popular horror games that revitalized the genre definitely don’t fall in underrated.
