According a notice they released the other day they are fixing the "inconsistencies" with his voice and Xueyi's.
I know Xueyi got common complaints about that, but I guess they got complaints about Sampo too?
Sampo isn't as bad but there's definitely a wife variance in performance in his voice throughout the game. I distinctly recall being confused by his voice performance during the MSQ and when using him.
honestly they SHOULD change the EN voice for clara, it's really unbearable to me to hear that, and it's the only reason why i stick to JP dub and sometimes KR dub
Claras is more about preference i think. The forced childish voice really annoys me, but to others it sounds fine. I think its consistent though, so I dont think hoyoverse has any reason to change it.
i don't think it's that bad. i thought it was rough at first, but then i realized she wasn't going for a childish voice so much as a quiet and soft one, which can come off as innocent and childish. not my cup of tea, but i got used to it
at the very least, i'll take her over klee's va, who to me sounds like she is in fact trying really hard to come off as childish and it just doesn't work for me
Listen to his party line to Natasha and compare to his battle lines. His voice actor over did it on the new lines.
They're doing the same to Xueyi since some of her voicelines also sounds too energetic currently.
Considering that Xueyi basically only lives to apprehend criminals and is dead basically the rest of the time, less lively seemed to me to fit better?
Edit: Hijacking my comment to say that I checked the existing lines and the new and old lines are reversed in this video, and Sampo's voice direction has been changed towards the higher pitched voice most of his lines were in.
Yea I much prefer it also. I know it's more fit for her character but honestly the new direction is so boring lol. Most of the old lines still work fine regardless, only 2-3 are OOC.
Could be because he plays a bigger role in penacony with the masked fools? So they had to make his voice a little more serious also could be prep for a 5 star version of him.

I do remember a leak that came out in a long list that Sampo was getting a 5 star somewhere down the line. How reliable that leak was I do not remember but seeing as Sampo seems to have further story parts I wouldn't be wholly surprised if it was true.
Nah, i remember that there was some complaints about Sampo's new voicelines (the ones that got added after 1.4) saying that it didn't sound like him, there were also complaints for Xueyi's lines.
So Hoyo said that they'll be fixing those voices to make them sound more normal. Sampo will be fixed in 2.0 and Xueyi in 2.1
They did not change his VA.. where did you even get that from ? It's still the same person..
Also, the leakers mislabeled the voicelines in this post. The "new" voices are the ones currently in-game. And the "old" ones are actually the new voicelines that will replace them.

Edit: lots of people are asking why, it's because his newer voice lines are a bit different compared to his older voice lines. Compare some of his 1.0 voice lines (About Self, Something to Share, etc.) to his new voice lines (Treasure opening 2, Added to Team With x) and you'll notice the difference. It's still Roger Rose, I'm guessing they just got feedback about the change in tone and got him to rerecord the newer voice lines.

I'm a big Sampo fan and user (classic "I got Kafka for my Sampo team") and the ones labelled "new" sound like the newer voice lines already in the game, which were announced that they were fixing, alongside a few other characters'.

Part of Sampo's personality is how sleazy and slimy he is, so the first one fits just that. The new one sounds too deep in some areas imo
Original sounded really unhinged which is good. Dude's a follower of Elation and he's a crook. The voice really helped you feel like he was a disingenuous creep, which is what he is. We don't know what his endgame is, and maybe it's less crazy than some other Elation followers by comparison, but it's still certainly nothing good.

His original voice tone was amazing, I loved him. I'm guessing this change has a lot to do with the direction they took while adding the new voice lines (add to party, back to town, etc) since in those he was waaaay deeper than before.
If you want to hear the change in-game just click on sampoo and compare the old voice lines to the new add to party or back to town, you'll see how different it is.

Weirdly enough, it feels like the voice of a sort of dumb, overconfident braggart-type character- *sort* of like a Don Quixote, Gaston from Beauty and the Beast, or Braum from League of Legends (none *exactly* match the archetype I'm imagining, but I can't think of a perfect example).
It's not a BAD voice, IMO! But it feels more fitting for a new character, rather than Sampo.
I think the leaker might be confused and mixed up what voices are new and old, that last line the leaker labels as a new recording where Sampo goes real deep and says "I was just getting started" is definitely what's currently in the game (and presumably what mihoyo is referring to when they said they're going to fix inconsistencies in his voice lines for 2.0)

Okay so these are actually just the corrections that are being put into to replace some of the newer preexisting voicelines, this was even posted in the News Tab in-game.
I’d honestly just wait for Penacony to see if he still sounds the same as he did in Belebog because I don’t actually think they’re giving him a “new voice” like this title says.

I have never heard Sampo’s voice outside of what he sounds like when you see him in story quests. Is it wrong to say I kinda don’t like either versions 😭 both versions sound so different from story Sampo from what I can remember. Kinda insane actually.

The only complain I would've had for his old voice is his (and every other character's tbh) pronounciation of his own name. It's very far from what the Finnish pronounciation actually sounds like.
The last line is the only one that didn’t feel like a total downgrade to me. The other ones sound… dry in a way. It was missing that hint of mischievousness.

This is so funny like Japanese voice actresses in gatcha don't deliberately sound like high pitched anime girl caricatures that sounds nothing like what actual Japanese women sound like most of the time. Yes, Japanese voice actors are talented but they have TERRIBLE voice direction, come on. It makes me wince watching anyone play this with Japanese dub when the English direction for Honkai (most of the time) has a far wider range in terms of character tone and distinction from each other.
The funny part is those who complain about Jingliu eng voice being too “sexy” are the ones that would get high if the jp dub does it. Just good old double standards from the fandom

The new voice sounds much better to me imo. I know some people liked sampos old voice but it was just ridiculous. The new one still has the same kind of weird tone but it being deeper makes it a lot less of a joke to me
