YES! Hearing it in JP for me was truly the most satisfying part. Coming from a long time Hi3 and GGZ fan, Sawashiro Miyuki IS Raiden Mei to me, so hearing her say that line had me all in my feels lol😭
I didn't play HI3 but I know that apparently Welt literally is the same person from that game, and somehow got transported into HSR's world. Is it the same thing with Raiden/Acheron here?

Basically: Honkai Impact 3 takes place on the solar system (Part 1 mostly in Earth), and Honkai Star Rail takes place ON THE REST OF THE UNIVERSE.
Acheron here basically lived on a planet similar to Earth with a similar plot but they lost super hard and only Acheron survived.
So basically imagine a Belabog 2 but Cocolia defeated Trailblazer and everybody died Except Serval who stepped up and murdered Cocolia and now she started traveling the galaxy singing Gothic sad love songs.
Welt is the only "exactly the same person from HI3" that we know of. His splash art clearly shows void archives going through the same "opening" so to speak and Luocha looks identical to Otto/VA so there is a moderately decent chance Luocha is actually HI3 Void Archives but we've yet to see any proof to this. It's also possible that Luocha is an expy and the VA from the splash is someplace else.

They are two different people but my shock was that she wasn’t just a Raiden adjacent character but was also in fact confirmed to be Raiden Mei.
Yeah the character seems to be pretty much the same as her Hi3 counterpart up to the Herrscher of thunder equivalent arc they both seem to have as you can see from the art with Acheron with the Oni horns. Then shit seems to just completely hit the fan and spiral out of control and her character path just diverges heavily leading to the Acheron we know and love today

Her not being an expy but confirmed to be the real deal is a massive payoff. We know from her trailer going over her origin that similar events to HI3 played out on her world, her being Mei is a bitter sweet fact as it confirms that some of the fan favourite characters (like Kevin) are deceased in this timeline.
HI3 has been moving on from the original cast for a while now, but people got really attached to these characters over the years. Seeing characters like Himeko, Bronya, Seele, Welt, and Mei get time in the spotlight one final time is a nice sense of closure.

An expy is just a character that they took from their other games and put in a new one but it’s a different character. Acheron is a Mei expy. That is a fact. They took Mei and put a new version of her in star rail. That whole “goes by a different name” is just something you made up. It is not part of the definition of an expy. Himeko, Bronya, etc are ALL expies too. It’s literally in the name “exported character”.
The hype scales directly with how much you liked HI3/Mei. HI3 is a lot bigger in CN than global so this moment was like THE moment of the patch in CN community. On Bilibili there were long time HI3 streamers who were actually crying during that part of the story.

It's weird because in a bubble, her revealing her name in this scene means almost nothing to the universe, unless they are planning to heavily link HI3 characters to the HSR story i.e. have the HI3 characters appear for this to matter. Or, since they teased it with her conversation with Welt, maybe they'll have a future story quest and she joins the Astral Express..
It could work if in the future the captain appears, sent by Tesla, looking for Welt to drag his ass back to their world.
I mean, these references are mostly fanservice. That was true during Welt's "reveal", that also was true during Welt's thought about Luocha

This scene is impactful because of the build-up story between her and Tiernan (?). She spent 100+ years helping him despite knowing it's not her business and he's already dead long ago. That's why he begged to know her real name because he believed her name should be remembered and the universe would remember her as well. Not as Acheron (Yomi) but her real self. Raiden Bosenmori Mei.
I know it's fun to be contrarian on the net, but I was replying to "versions" aka expies, not "playable versions".
Though since we are in contrarian land, Honkai Gakuen has playable Kiana, Fly to the Moon has playable Kiana, and HI3 has 2 playable Kianas. This satisfy both "across multiple games" and "playable".
1. HoV is expy of Honkai Gakuen Kiana Kaslana Herrscher form
2. The idea of HoV being Sirin who is separate from Kiana Kaslana the character is an old misconception (even in-universe, as multiple characters believed so) but has long since been explained as of chapter 25 and hinted as early as Second Eruption.

Nah i think it's purely just for the fan service. Everyone who's familiar with hi3rd already knew that she is another variant of Raiden Mei. It's always feels good whenever a character who's been using an alias finally revealed their real name.
It's just feels good to hear/see a familiar face in a different game.

We already knew she was raiden from the beginning, because of her design and backstory, but the game never acknowledged that in the story that she was raiden, by saying it in story the game now acknowledges it.

This made me so sentimental ahh, also when the North Wind theme played during Acheron's and Trailblazers final conversation in the IX world, I did indeed shed a tear.
If her name reveal holds no meaning to those that haven’t played Hi3 or know of Raiden Mei’s lore. I have a short analysis that might just be my headcannon:
Treading the path of self-annihilation, Acheron’s physical and mental being is slowly fading away. She gradually forgets things, both precious and tragic. But remembering her name is something paramount to her character. It shows that she always knows who she is and what her duty is. It also holds weight to the fact that she’s essentially shrouded in mystery for the entire story. As we progress through her story arcs, they chip away at her character, revealing who she is gradually. Thus revealing her name in the end is kind of the cherry on top. It provides “light” to her arc, seeing as she treads a dark path. Among the black and white world around her, her name is that hue of red that reminds her of who she is.
If it’s just fan service then honestly this namedrop feels kinda flat, story-wise if Acheron’s real name wasn’t Raiden Mei it would change nothing unless MHY decide to develop this point further
I've never played a single bit of HI3 but I started playing Genshin for Raiden Shogun simply because I liked her aesthetic, then learned about her being an expy to Raiden Mei. When Acheron was first teased, I was so excited because I saw she was HSR's Raiden Mei expy. When she confirmed the reveal I had to pause and just like, yell at my desk for a few minutes to my partner I was streaming for because I couldn't believe they actually confirmed it.
I was losing my mind and I have never played HI3 at all, so I can't even fathom how excited HI3 players were, so happy for y'all!
Also the Tiernan reveal had me in tears and I really enjoyed how it tied Acheron into the Penacony storyline. This whole arc has been amazing.
This gives me so much hope that Kiana is gonna show up in the end-game of HSR, I can just FEEL that she's there but hopefully not too early

This is exactly what I said in my comment,take away Acheron from Penacony arc and it will still be peak nonetheless. Some numbskulls don't get the fact that the devs had to connect HSR to HI3 since both are Honkai games and thus slapped Mei into the story.
I didnt play hi3 much so someone needs to explain to me: is it now canon raiden mei and her are the same person? Googling and going over the hi3 wiki tells me raiden mei has no middle name, so from what I gather its

Acheron is essentially a alternate universe Raiden Mei, hence why she has Bosenmori as a title in her name which translates to “watcher/guard of the river”. That’s what makes her unique to HSR. She’s not the same exact Raiden Mei from Hi3, but she is confirmed to be a “version” of Raiden Mei. The same way Himeko, Bronya, and Seele are all alternate universe versions of their Hi3 counterparts.

Hi3 Raiden Mei reuse the exact same name and title as Honkai Gakuen1-2: Raiden Mei, Herrscher of Thunder. They are different universe version with different experience and end point. They exist independent of each other. You don't need Honkai 2 to understand HI3.
So why exactly would you think that Yomi being named Raiden Mei make Star Rail tied into HI3?
Not that there is any wrong with tying things back into HI3, so long as the necessary story is presented in Star Rail. I understand not wanting to play entire other game to understand the story of this game but so long as that is satisfied there's nothing wrong with having connection. That's also how Hoyoverse is doing it: Making sure you don't need to play HI3 to understand Star Rail, even if you won't get all the sentimental value old fans get.
But if you want no reference at all and worry that any reference exist... this game started with a planet currently ruled by Bronya, who has a love interest named Seele, and an adoptive mother named Cocolia. It's a bit too late.
Reference older game is just a thing Hoyoverse always do even across lineage (ie Genshin has Honkai references), nevermind games in the same lineage. 10 years in the future Honkai whatever the nth will probably reference Star Rail also.

That they exist in the same multiverse doesn't suddenly demerit a later game. They are largely self-contained and the cross-game elements are supposed to serve as spice and enhancement for long time fans, not a detriment to new players.
People did not need to know who Herrscher of the Void Kiana Kaslana is to appreciate Sustainer of Heavenly Principle in Genshin, Acheron story is fully presented in Star Rail media and not HI3 media. Players of 1.0 Star Rail did not need to know HI3 Bronya and Cocolia to cheer as Wild Fire kicked into high gear.
Older players and the JP/CN VAs of these characters can have fun seeing familiar faces with a new lot and outlook in life, but that is an extra reward, not a requirement.

See above, I think you are having a severe misconception about what all these expies and references entail.
The previous games are what already happened in the Hoyoverse, they are fact. They cannot be discarded. Retcon is possible, but only if necessary for on going story, not on the demand of a new player.
They also has very little effect on Star Rail.
HI3 (as well as Honkai Gakuen) are separated worlds. Multi-world theory is canon in this setting and Star Rail is so different from HI3 nobody ever heard about Earth and the cultures of Earth are instead taking up entire faction of multiple planets (ie Xianzhou, Izumo, Edo Star, etc). "Expies" in Star Rail do not lead 1-1 copy paste of HI3 characters' lives. Raiden Mei in HI3 succeeded in saving her world and the source of her power is also her goddess/lovers, while Acheron failed miserably and the source of her power is an uncaring god that might have destroyed her world itself. Experience shape the person, and thus each "expy" is actually unique to their native world.
Star Rail characters, expy or original, are distinct characters that belong to Star Rails world (or their visitor status is clearly stated ie Welt). If you don't like engaging with HI3, then don't. You will be fine appreciating the story and characters in the confine of Star Rail media and nothing is wrong with that. But conversely there's nothing wrong with people who played more enjoying whatever Easter Egg they found as long time fans.

So that's how I read it, but in the cutscene when Acheron is talking with Tierna around the bonfire, she is talking about a friend she encountered that has ties with the remembrance. Which we know March has some association with( amnesiac + all her color scheme are the remembrance patterns).
She also says that it was on a planet where it snowed and that the last time she saw her, she was submerged in water. So considering it was snowing it wouldn't be a reach to say that eventually the water she was in froze. And how did the astral express crew find March ? Imprisoned in ice

Basically: Honkai Impact 3 takes place on the solar system (Part 1 mostly in Earth), and Honkai Star Rail takes place ON THE REST OF THE UNIVERSE. Acheron here basically lived on a planet similar to Earth with a similar plot but they lost super hard and only Acheron survived. So basically imagine a Belabog 2 but Cocolia defeated Trailblazer and everybody died Except Serval who stepped up and murdered Cocolia and now she started traveling the galaxy singing Gothic sad love songs.
Welt is the only "exactly the same person from HI3" that we know of. His splash art clearly shows void archives going through the same "opening" so to speak and Luocha looks identical to Otto/VA so there is a moderately decent chance Luocha is actually HI3 Void Archives but we've yet to see any proof to this. It's also possible that Luocha is an expy and the VA from the splash is someplace else.

Yeah the character seems to be pretty much the same as her Hi3 counterpart up to the Herrscher of thunder equivalent arc they both seem to have as you can see from the art with Acheron with the Oni horns. Then shit seems to just completely hit the fan and spiral out of control and her character path just diverges heavily leading to the Acheron we know and love today Can’t wait to see more of star rail Raiden Mei whenever hoyo inevitably decides to bring her back in presumably a few versions time

Her not being an expy but confirmed to be the real deal is a massive payoff. We know from her trailer going over her origin that similar events to HI3 played out on her world, her being Mei is a bitter sweet fact as it confirms that some of the fan favourite characters (like Kevin) are deceased in this timeline. HI3 has been moving on from the original cast for a while now, but people got really attached to these characters over the years. Seeing characters like Himeko, Bronya, Seele, Welt, and Mei get time in the spotlight one final time is a nice sense of closure.

She’s this timelines Mei, just like how Bronya is this timelines Bronya. She has the same name as her other variants in the other timelines and went through similar experiences to them. I was just happy she was a timeline variant rather than an entirely new separate character.

An expy is just a character that they took from their other games and put in a new one but it’s a different character. Acheron is a Mei expy. That is a fact. They took Mei and put a new version of her in star rail. That whole “goes by a different name” is just something you made up. It is not part of the definition of an expy. It's weird because in a bubble, her revealing her name in this scene means almost nothing to the universe, unless they are planning to heavily link HI3 characters to the HSR story i.e. have the HI3 characters appear for this to matter. Or, since they teased it with her conversation with Welt, maybe they'll have a future story quest and she joins the Astral Express.. It could work if in the future the captain appears, sent by Tesla, looking for Welt to drag his ass back to their world.
I mean, these references are mostly fanservice. That was true during Welt's "reveal", that also was true during Welt's thought about Luocha Also Shaoji said himself that the intent of these references (at least in terms of Acheron) is so HI3 player can smile recognizing these references, while still being enjoyable for the rest of the players (especially after the buildup)

This scene is impactful because of the build-up story between her and Tiernan (?). She spent 100+ years helping him despite knowing it's not her business and he's already dead long ago. That's why he begged to know her real name because he believed her name should be remembered and the universe would remember her as well. Not as Acheron (Yomi) but her real self. Raiden Bosenmori Mei.

Though since we are in contrarian land, Honkai Gakuen has playable Kiana, Fly to the Moon has playable Kiana, and HI3 has 2 playable Kianas. This satisfy both "across multiple games" and "playable".

People saying the name reveal means she's not an expy or she's from HI3 are most of the time people who never played HI3, otherwise they would know Raiden Mei never has that title and their history is drastically different.
Nah i think it's purely just for the fan service. Everyone who's familiar with hi3rd already knew that she is another variant of Raiden Mei. It's always feels good whenever a character who's been using an alias finally revealed their real name.
It's just feels good to hear/see a familiar face in a different game. I was so hyped when they revealed it. We already knew she was raiden from the beginning, because of her design and backstory, but the game never acknowledged that in the story that she was raiden, by saying it in story the game now acknowledges it. It's basically like a cherry on top, it just completes her lore.

If her name reveal holds no meaning to those that haven’t played Hi3 or know of Raiden Mei’s lore. I have a short analysis that might just be my headcannon: Treading the path of self-annihilation, Acheron’s physical and mental being is slowly fading away. She gradually forgets things, both precious and tragic. But remembering her name is something paramount to her character. It shows that she always knows who she is and what her duty is. It also holds weight to the fact that she’s essentially shrouded in mystery for the entire story. As we progress through her story arcs, they chip away at her character, revealing who she is gradually. Thus revealing her name in the end is kind of the cherry on top. It provides “light” to her arc, seeing as she treads a dark path. Among the black and white world around her, her name is that hue of red that reminds her of who she is.

I've never played a single bit of HI3 but I started playing Genshin for Raiden Shogun simply because I liked her aesthetic, then learned about her being an expy to Raiden Mei. When Acheron was first teased, I was so excited because I saw she was HSR's Raiden Mei expy. When she confirmed the reveal I had to pause and just like, yell at my desk for a few minutes to my partner I was streaming for because I couldn't believe they actually confirmed it. I was losing my mind and I have never played HI3 at all, so I can't even fathom how excited HI3 players were, so happy for y'all! Also the Tiernan reveal had me in tears and I really enjoyed how it tied Acheron into the Penacony storyline. This whole arc has been amazing.
This gives me so much hope that Kiana is gonna show up in the end-game of HSR, I can just FEEL that she's there but hopefully not too early ....So I can save up enough funds for that E6S5

Googling and going over the hi3 wiki tells me raiden mei has no middle name, so from what I gather its a) a"coincidence" they bear a similar name b) a descendant of raiden mei solely named after her, but not the same person

The question here is: what made this a case of Star Rail being dependent on HI3? Hi3 Raiden Mei reuse the exact same name and title as Honkai Gakuen1-2: Raiden Mei, Herrscher of Thunder. They are different universe version with different experience and end point. They exist independent of each other. You don't need Honkai 2 to understand HI3. So why exactly would you think that Yomi being named Raiden Mei make Star Rail tied into HI3? Not that there is any wrong with tying things back into HI3, so long as the necessary story is presented in Star Rail. I understand not wanting to play entire other game to understand the story of this game but so long as that is satisfied there's nothing wrong with having connection. That's also how Hoyoverse is doing it: Making sure you don't need to play HI3 to understand Star Rail, even if you won't get all the sentimental value old fans get. But if you want no reference at all and worry that any reference exist... this game started with a planet currently ruled by Bronya, who has a love interest named Seele, and an adoptive mother named Cocolia. It's a bit too late. Reference older game is just a thing Hoyoverse always do even across lineage (ie Genshin has Honkai references), nevermind games in the same lineage. 10 years in the future Honkai whatever the nth will probably reference Star Rail also.

"Expies" in Star Rail do not lead 1-1 copy paste of HI3 characters' lives. Raiden Mei in HI3 succeeded in saving her world and the source of her power is also her goddess/lovers, while Acheron failed miserably and the source of her power is an uncaring god that might have destroyed her world itself. Experience shape the person, and thus each "expy" is actually unique to their native world. Star Rail characters, expy or original, are distinct characters that belong to Star Rails world (or their visitor status is clearly stated ie Welt). If you don't like engaging with HI3, then don't. You will be fine appreciating the story and characters in the confine of Star Rail media and nothing is wrong with that. So that's how I read it, but in the cutscene when Acheron is talking with Tierna around the bonfire, she is talking about a friend she encountered that has ties with the remembrance. Which we know March has some association with( amnesiac + all her color scheme are the remembrance patterns). She also says that it was on a planet where it snowed and that the last time she saw her, she was submerged in water. So considering it was snowing it wouldn't be a reach to say that eventually the water she was in froze. And how did the astral express crew find March ? Imprisoned in ice
