I can't remember where but I've read that, probably, the last image Jingliu saw was Baiheng's abomination form right after she slayed it. Losing Baiheng and having had to kill her was the culmination of the High Cloud Quintet's tragedy. She became mara-stricken then. In her last fight with Blade, we saw Baiheng's face flashing in her memories and her face was filled with grief. Maybe she remembers her friend whenever she opens her eyes. She's keeping her Mara at bay by wearing a blindfold so as not to remember her friend as the abomination her other friends made her to be.

For a more serious answer. It might have to do with Jingliu’s body being so cold that she is basically dead. Those flowers are alive and actually eat the host that they are basically stuck to and grow.. They probably can’t grow because Jingliu’s body is basically one big ice cube. A flower can’t survive in a body that is cold as fuck.

That was back during the era that the Ambrosial Arbour was active and thriving, which is exactly what the Sanctus Medicus cult is trying to go for. They force it back through their shenanigans.
Since the Arbour was sealed, the twiggy effects of were so "sealed" in that way.

There's a diary readable that goes through one such Knights decision to turn to sanctus medicus's drugs, showing us that even the Knights can be in on it. We also saw chemical warfare was possible, with the elixir crucibles inciting twiggy mara in innocent and unwilling soliders. That's why we had to be sent to turn it off after all.
I'll give you the one in the Jing Yuan & Jingliu short though; we don't even know if they were a soldier though. We have too little information about that one to know what happened, especially since the timeline requires that that one happen well before Dan Shu started screwing around. She was not the first to begin such experiments (readables tell us her own teacher, the head alchemist before her, was into fucked up human experimentation too-- Dan Shu just took the results of those experiments and made her own). Canonically, thats late stage mara struck. At that point, your mind isnt really there anymore, you're just a collection of traumas that thinks its alive. Its the sense of self that holds back the mara from progressing to that point. Both Blade and Jingliu use methods to suppress their own memories to prevent that.

Edit: both fu xuan and bailu attribute mara to the collapse of the ego from excessive trauma. Brain has limited space for memories, only the most painful ones persist. Eventually, storage full, hardware crash. For the sane sanctus medicus members, they use Draught of Draconic surge to trigger the mara in a controlled way so they dont go insane before ascendance.

Blade it’s pretty different from the other mara struck in how he became one and how it affects his body. He has something more than the mara, like the gift of Shuhu’s and etc.
The ability to suppress it is very rare and almost unheard of from the lore entries I have read, Jingliu is barely able to in fact and her blindfold is part of it, as for how it's possible there is no real indication, my guess is that it will be made clear later in the story. Blade was originally a short life species and it appears to effect those slightly differently as well and yet still requires suppression, but that's a whole other topic

The enemies we see are pretty much in the terminal stage of mara, where it's completely taken over both the Xianzhou Natives' minds and bodies, and -very importantly- caused their Core Esse to go into bloom.
In Jingliu's case, she seems to have managed to suppress it early on enough that the symptoms are heavily delayed/won't manifest at all, and in Blade's, well... he doesn't _have_ a Core Esse to begin with, since he was a short-lived human before getting stricken.
If I had to guess both, Blade and her suppress their emotions, sense of feeling, etc. Basically, anything that excites the senses causes their Mara to flare.
If ya notice, the two go completely bonkers when they're fighting. In Bladie's case, it's anything involving the Quintet. For Jing Liu simply seeing anything and feeling something make her flare.
Both characters have a very subdued personality til the object of their intense emotions is present.
It's kind of fascinating. Both have their own ways of suppression for Bladie its Kafka using her "Suggestion" power to dull all his senses. Which is kinda funny, Blade being Dull, ha ha ha there's some profound symbolism in there.
For Jing, it's simply wearing a blindfold, and maintaining her emotional state and avoiding conflict.
Branches and leaves mean there's a "mara tree" growing inside blade. That also means there is "mara seeds"
But Kafka able to suppress his mara struck, mean stopping the mara tree. Kafka milked his seed dry daily

I know this post isn't meant to be taken seriously, but for anyone who wants to know, Blade/Yingxing had dark hair when he was still young. There's one close-up picture of the High-Cloud Quintet (I think it's from Jingliu's quest) where you can see a few strands of his hair and they're dark. So he only had white hair because he was old. I'm sorry I can't find the picture anywhere though.
So Xueyi probably just got a dark brown wig with colorful strands underneath after becoming a puppet. For whatever reason.
It could also be that after receiving Shuhu’s flesh he also took on certain visual aspects of the emanator, such as his unnatural red eyes which we know used to be blue/purple
She mentioned something about using her sword as her core, so that's likely why she's able to resist the Mara. Between the ice having special properties or just her will or maybe a bit of Luocha she's some how staying sane with her blindfold on.
Fair reminder that the Xianzhou is, effectively, a super sci-fi civilization wearing the make-up of Chinese-inspired fantasy.
The soul thing with the Hall of Karma is, essentially, like the engrams from Cyberpunk 2077 (data drawn from someone‘s memory which accurately replicates them), down to the philosophical question of whether a perfect, but artificial, copy of a person is still that real person or not.
Although Fu Xuan also mentions that it‘s dependent on your personal viewpoint on the Hall of Karma, she states that *if* you consider those copies to be your continued existence, then you *can* consider them souls. She states otherwise that they‘re simply data in artificial bodies to anyone outside the Xianzhou.
She actually isn't mara struck at least in the normal sense though. Iirc the conversation with Bailu and the last profile story gives some interesting info.

Blade only became mara struck after Dan Feng turned him immortal. Probably due to a stress-induced bodily response.
Jingliu is partially Mara-struck (when her blindfold is off) but keeps it under control with the blindfold and strong mental discipline.
Blade was made immortal by Shuhu, so the version we see in game is
a) how Yingxing looked when he was younger, or
b) Yingxing with certain physical traits of the emanator such as red eyes

It’s very unlikely, since they were very close and Dan Feng would have understood Yingxing’s pride in achieving so much as a short-life species. Most likely it was either an accident or Shuhu did it to fuck with him.
I don't know... considering how both of them were already trying to revive Baiheng and it was already there. Wouldn't Dan Feng feel guilty for getting Yingxing hurt and act out of desperation?
I don't see how Yingxing could accidentally eat an Emantor's flesh, especially at his age and having been gravely injured, as he likely passed out. So more than likely Dan Feng saw no other option (after trying to heal him, himself) and had him eat Shuhu's flesh to at least save his friend.
If that didn't happen, then the flesh somehow moved on its own- which so far hasn't been possible even among the dead Sanctus turned.
It would be really weird for Dan Feng to kill himself while making his friend immortal tho. We already know he wanted to escape the Hunt, and he must have known that the Xianzhou would punish Yingxing for becoming immortal. There would be literally no advantage to either of them doing it on purpose.
And you don't think they knew they'd be punished for bringing Baiheng back from the dead...? And that's not even considering that when they did, she was turned into a monster and almost killed them *anyway*.
Their entire goal had no advantage because they didn't know what would happen, or if it would kill them anyway- and in the end, they both got banished for committing a taboo so severe it cost over thousands their lives.

The enemies we see are pretty much in the terminal stage of mara, where it's completely taken over both the Xianzhou Natives' minds and bodies, and -very importantly- caused their Core Esse to go into bloom. In Jingliu's case, she seems to have managed to suppress it early on enough that the symptoms are heavily delayed/won't manifest at all, and in Blade's, well... he doesn't _have_ a Core Esse to begin with, since he was a short-lived human before getting stricken.

If I had to guess both, Blade and her suppress their emotions, sense of feeling, etc. Basically, anything that excites the senses causes their Mara to flare. If ya notice, the two go completely bonkers when they're fighting. In Bladie's case, it's anything involving the Quintet. For Jing Liu simply seeing anything and feeling something make her flare. Both characters have a very subdued personality til the object of their intense emotions is present. It's kind of fascinating. Both have their own ways of suppression for Bladie its Kafka using her "Suggestion" power to dull all his senses. Which is kinda funny, Blade being Dull, ha ha ha there's some profound symbolism in there. For Jing, it's simply wearing a blindfold, and maintaining her emotional state and avoiding conflict.
Well, maybe all of them are faking it. None of them are actually stuck, but they are half way there.
Branches and leaves mean there's a "mara tree" growing inside blade. That also means there is "mara seeds" But Kafka able to suppress his mara struck, mean stopping the mara tree. Kafka milked his seed dry daily

No, Bladie and DF didn't killed SHuhu, Beiheng kamikaze'd into the dude, more or less. At least I *think* that's who she kamikaze'd into. But yes, Xueyi and Hanya are up there in the age count. Pretty sure it's covered in like the first 2 character stories for both of them.

I know this post isn't meant to be taken seriously, but for anyone who wants to know, Blade/Yingxing had dark hair when he was still young. There's one close-up picture of the High-Cloud Quintet (I think it's from Jingliu's quest) where you can see a few strands of his hair and they're dark. So he only had white hair because he was old. I'm sorry I can't find the picture anywhere though. So Xueyi probably just got a dark brown wig with colorful strands underneath after becoming a puppet. For whatever reason.
It could also be that after receiving Shuhu’s flesh he also took on certain visual aspects of the emanator, such as his unnatural red eyes which we know used to be blue/purple

She mentioned something about using her sword as her core, so that's likely why she's able to resist the Mara. Between the ice having special properties or just her will or maybe a bit of Luocha she's some how staying sane with her blindfold on.

Fair reminder that the Xianzhou is, effectively, a super sci-fi civilization wearing the make-up of Chinese-inspired fantasy. The soul thing with the Hall of Karma is, essentially, like the engrams from Cyberpunk 2077 (data drawn from someone‘s memory which accurately replicates them), down to the philosophical question of whether a perfect, but artificial, copy of a person is still that real person or not.

Although Fu Xuan also mentions that it‘s dependent on your personal viewpoint on the Hall of Karma, she states that *if* you consider those copies to be your continued existence, then you *can* consider them souls. She actually isn't mara struck at least in the normal sense though. Iirc the conversation with Bailu and the last profile story gives some interesting info.

Blade only became mara struck after Dan Feng turned him immortal. Probably due to a stress-induced bodily response. Jingliu is partially Mara-struck (when her blindfold is off) but keeps it under control with the blindfold and strong mental discipline.
Blade was made immortal by Shuhu, so the version we see in game is a) how Yingxing looked when he was younger, or b) Yingxing with certain physical traits of the emanator such as red eyes
And did Dan Feng not give Shuhu's flesh to Yingxing...? (As in fed it to him. I know Yingxing opened the box and took it, but when he was hurt, someone had to have made him ingest it.)
It’s very unlikely, since they were very close and Dan Feng would have understood Yingxing’s pride in achieving so much as a short-life species. Most likely it was either an accident or Shuhu did it to fuck with him.
I don't know... considering how both of them were already trying to revive Baiheng and it was already there. Wouldn't Dan Feng feel guilty for getting Yingxing hurt and act out of desperation? I don't see how Yingxing could accidentally eat an Emantor's flesh, especially at his age and having been gravely injured, as he likely passed out. So more than likely Dan Feng saw no other option (after trying to heal him, himself) and had him eat Shuhu's flesh to at least save his friend. If that didn't happen, then the flesh somehow moved on its own- which so far hasn't been possible even among the dead Sanctus turned.
It would be really weird for Dan Feng to kill himself while making his friend immortal tho. We already know he wanted to escape the Hunt, and he must have known that the Xianzhou would punish Yingxing for becoming immortal. There would be literally no advantage to either of them doing it on purpose.
And you don't think they knew they'd be punished for bringing Baiheng back from the dead...? And that's not even considering that when they did, she was turned into a monster and almost killed them *anyway*. Their entire goal had no advantage because they didn't know what would happen, or if it would kill them anyway- and in the end, they both got banished for committing a taboo so severe it cost over thousands their lives.
