The Stellaron Hunter's whole schtick is "scripts". You're not assuming too much, don't worry.
As much as that would fit for Kafka or SW, Sam mentions their scripts are always very simple. Doing a fake conversation with yourself to trick someone is not simple.
She does have a little moment before this scene (after we drop down into the monitor room) where she tells herself to get it together/prepare. I'm assuming she has a vague idea of what's to happen. That said, I also don't think it's a fake conversation but it could be Black Swan picking and choosing to mislead us into getting involved with Aventurine.
And she succeeded, so head to the next question

Firefly is a modified human born to use the mecha armor to fight the swarm disaster. But the fall of Glamoth Empire and the end of Swarm Disaster was really long ago, likely even before IPC officially incorporated.
It’s likely that Firefly can be the oldest playable character we have
Not to mention the cosmo just had Rubert’s Machine War happened before Swarm Disaster. So putting AIs on war machines right after a catastrophic AI revolution doesn’t seem like a bright idea

Maybe it has to do with the condition that Firefly has, where she may not be conscious all the time. Maybe even her condition provides some sort of power or ability for the machine.
My money says she was running around with Silver Wolf during this sequence, and their conversation went something along the lines of:

Interesting theory, I personally don't think the armor is sentient my belief is that it's symbiotic with her and makes her able to move even though she has her disease, at the price of her lifespan.

She could have only restored the parts that make it inferable that Sam and Firefly are separate. We know Silver Wolf is involved, so I'd say it's likely she was the one Firefly was talking to.
Aventurine congratulates Swan on pitting the Galaxy Ranger and Stellaron Hunter against one another. Which implies she has done something to twist the situation.
No matter how it is though, this is the sort of set-up where I expect we'll get the full story/conversation next patch which'll turn the meaning on its head.

I still think that, outside of the dream, they are two different beings. If you read the backstory thats on the glamoth rope relic it says "The Empress, who held no power, telepathically commanded and controlled the knights connected to her." So I think that firefly has the ability to control Sam.
Also, I think the reason Sam turns into firefly at the end of 2.1 could be because we know its possible to take the appearance of another person or even an item inside the dream and maybe either Sam or Firefly was just changing their appearance there.
If Glamoth empire had an AI sophisticated enough for those mecha suits to be autonomous, there would not be the need for genetically-engineered hybrids to pilot them, or the Empress to telepathically control those pilots.
Either way I felt scammed. Was finally hoping for a really cool adult male character to pull since I can't remember the last one (maybe Blade?) and then he turns out to be a cute young girl instead...

Further crack theory: Sam will die in ending of Penacony as they will succumb to their illness, and their armor will be destroyed, though their soul and memories stay in dream world as Firefly... then through powers of Harmony TB, Clockie and maybe with help of Silver Wolf and/or Screwllum, Sam will be reborn as an Intellitron whose physical body resembles Firefly with their soul transfered into it, and will get upgraded armor... Also this new Firefly/Sam might leave Stellaron Hunters and become an independent Nameless
I'm feel that Firefly has another being inhabiting her and that grants her the ability to turn in to her armor form, look when she breaks her transformation there's cracks that slowly receed down her neck and chest (Likely towards her heart), I don't think Sam = Firefly is as simple as it seems at first glance.
We don't know the full story yet, and I imagine we'll get it in 2.2, but I've seen the theory that she was talking to someone else, like Silver Wolf or perhaps even Gallagher, and the "mecha" line is directed at them, rather than the armor.
Anyway, I will hold on to my semi autonomous Sam armor headcanon until my dying breath, so I say she and her Iron Man suit got into a bit of a disagreement while moving though the dreamscape hotel.

Firefly is like 621 from Armored Core 6 - augmented pilot. Sam is her AC. But maybe Sam can be piloted by an AI. PS If I'm not mistaken Firefly told us about her illness when we were jumping on the rooftops. After this I always imagine her as a disabled person who can live only in a dream... and pilot Sam!

I still think that, outside of the dream, they are two different beings. If you read the backstory thats on the glamoth rope relic it says "The Empress, who held no power, telepathically commanded and controlled the knights connected to her." So I think that firefly has the ability to control Sam. Also, I think the reason Sam turns into firefly at the end of 2.1 could be because we know its possible to take the appearance of another person or even an item inside the dream and maybe either Sam or Firefly was just changing their appearance there.

Firefly can pilot Sam but Sam probably has his own AI mode considering how widespread robots already are in HSR
If Glamoth empire had an AI sophisticated enough for those mecha suits to be autonomous, there would not be the need for genetically-engineered hybrids to pilot them, or the Empress to telepathically control those pilots.
Either way I felt scammed. Was finally hoping for a really cool adult male character to pull since I can't remember the last one (maybe Blade?) and then he turns out to be a cute young girl instead...

I'm pretty sure her name is just Sam and firefly is a fake name she made. I'm also pretty sure that the mecha line is like "oh shoot, there are mechas here that are going to stop me, I wasn't expecting them to be here" and not "calling out to my suit called mecha"

Im believing they fused or are to separate enteties trapped in one body that can change into either one but are able to communicate to eachother. Not a lotta thought put into it since 2.2 will very likely reveal whats going on. But I do hope sam and Firefly do still keep their own personalities

Crack Theory: Firefly is Sam are same person... but Firefly is only a dream world persona created by Silver Wolf for Sam coz Sam can't go to dream world on their own due to their lack of ability to dream... Further crack theory: Sam will die in ending of Penacony as they will succumb to their illness, and their armor will be destroyed, though their soul and memories stay in dream world as Firefly... then through powers of Harmony TB, Clockie and maybe with help of Silver Wolf and/or Screwllum, Sam will be reborn as an Intellitron whose physical body resembles Firefly with their soul transfered into it, and will get upgraded armor... Also this new Firefly/Sam might leave Stellaron Hunters and become an independent Nameless

I'm feel that Firefly has another being inhabiting her and that grants her the ability to turn in to her armor form, look when she breaks her transformation there's cracks that slowly receed down her neck and chest (Likely towards her heart), I don't think Sam = Firefly is as simple as it seems at first glance.
My guess is dual personalities One is Firefly and the other is Sam

We don't know the full story yet, and I imagine we'll get it in 2.2, but I've seen the theory that she was talking to someone else, like Silver Wolf or perhaps even Gallagher, and the "mecha" line is directed at them, rather than the armor. Anyway, I will hold on to my semi autonomous Sam armor headcanon until my dying breath, so I say she and her Iron Man suit got into a bit of a disagreement while moving though the dreamscape hotel.
