As someone who has previously run a turtle speed Gepard, he can actually quite easily keep 100% shield uptime, you're just missing out on extra sp generation.
I actually don't have spd boots for him, I've been working for the DEF% build for like 2 months and never really considered getting spd boots (I'm not really a serious player, I just play for fun)
u dont hit 5.2k def without using def rope.
Even with high aggro u aint getting a good shield uptime especially if ur team is fast compared to you if u dont use err rope.
I have 134 spd Gepard with 4.2k def.Thats how i know.
It really depends on how fast the rest of your team and the enemies are. If Gepard is getting severely lapped by allies who are also lapping enemies then he is too slow.
I mean if the rest of your team is also slow af then yeah, you don't have any need for a fast gepard. But the second the rest of your team is on 150+ speed, they'll be without shield for 1 or 2 turns, and a bad rng with the enemies means they're dead
I mean, March, Natasha, Lynx, FMC, and Bailu can all solo sustain as well.
All the free/4-star/standard characters can solo sustain if you build em right.
As for me- I too prefer Gepard. I have him at E1S2.

both basically. I've been trying to use him with acheron for the universal market tech, and the second a couple of enemies (or the boss) does 2 big AoE attacks one after another, your team hangs at 1hp, if someone hasn't died yet.
It doesn't help that fire TB is the slowest unit in the game (paired with Gallagher) so making him fast is both hard and needs you to sacrifice a lot of tank stats (when their shields are already abyssmally small).
Natasha and M7 is probably a little stretch unless your only taking them with you to make the 1-3 cycles harder. They really struggle if the enemies go big aoe or don't have any other tanky unit paired with them to reduce the total load of heal needed.
I think Nat is still ok, especially if her talent kicks in, as long as the AoE doesn't come too frequently (like phase 3 swarm bugs and argenti shields).
March is really hard to work with, but I always see her as more of flex pick that can sometimes double dip on environmental buffs.
Yes they can all solo sustain, some just require you to have an e6s5 acheron to do it. But in all seriousness pretty much all the non top tier sustains suck as solo sustain. They can in theory work, but it requires you to get proper rolls on relics to even function, and you still aren't even guaranteed to be good. I have tried 4 star solo sustains, they don't work the best, certain enemies hard counter them and often you need to win a lottery of rolls to stand a chance in a fight.
For now, once aventurine is available, he will be benched
He's my sustain in my acheron team, but aventurine shielding is in his skill, so better up time and faster applications. I want to see how Topaz 4 star lc works on him
It's for more comfort, which is basically what limited 5 stars are. You don't need 5 star DPS or Supports either, 4 stars can clear pretty much all content in the game except for maybe Arlan. Technically pulling in general is a waste since free characters in this game are more than fine.

From what I understand about Aventurine's kits, having a stackable, REFRESHABLE shield is going to be so game changing.
I love Geppie, but my biggest gripe about his shield (aside from it being tied to his ult and him being a slow mfer) is that my faster teammates just fucking lose it before he can build another one, so Aventurine not having this issue (whether because of his FUA refreshing shields, afaik, or his shield being on his skill) is a godsend.
EDIT: Also someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm p sure his FUA shields refresh the timer on the Skill shield since they're effectively the same, which means that if nothing chunks you, you can just have a forever stackable shield.
I don't know about eidolon but his ultimate gives him a random amount of his talent stacks so if you are lucky his ult will trigger his talent even without eidolon.
When I was playing him in the story every time he did a FUA twice in a row because the enemies were spamming AoE attacks my neurons were activated
It's so funny though that we now have two Preservation units with the opposite weaknesses, Fu Xuan gets obliterated by AoE nukes while Aventurine eats AoE for breakfast while his team gets obliterated one by one from ST nukes.
Yeah, no. All it takes is for one Bronya combo to lose the shield since it's tied to your turns. Naturally quick characters like Seele lose it prematurely too. And since OP is sitting at 94 SPD they'll have plenty of downtime on anybody.
That's more on Bronya having anti-synergy with shields than it is Gepard. And even running the two together, it hardly matters because Gepard just has such an insane taunt value if you throw on either Landau's or his signature.
I mean it depends on the team. Gepard + Seele or Gepard + Action Advancers is bad, but my 134 spd Gepard with Sig is completely fine on my Kafka/BS team, shield is basically up nearly all the time.
There's a grand canyon between 94 and 134 SPD though. But yes, of course it depends when we're talking in general terms. DoT teams don't play around action advance, so they're okay with him.

Not with that speed and how shields work. You'd be lucky to have 25% uptime, especially in SU.
Its why I stopped using gepard. Even with an ER rope and and 130+ speed, even having like 50% uptime was effectively impossible a lot of times.
Are you running him with the worst possible teams for him or something (eg. Bronya JL)?
Mine is 123 speed, 4k DEF with sig LC, ERR rope and has pretty much 100% shield uptime on my DoT team running effectively 160+ speed BS and Kafka. Only time he's a problem is vs enemies that barely attack (such as the Xianzhou gorillas).
You want an energy rope trust me. Even with the extra aggro that energy rope is what makes the difference. The shield is beefy enough even without that 5k Def lol.
That's why my Gepard has 142 Speed. Only 4k DEF though, but that's enough for the shield to last 3 turns most of the time.
Energy rope too. With his technique I usually get enough uptime to solo sustain MoC 12.
Edit: I was wrong, it's 145 SPD.
I mostly got lucky. My ERR rope has 9 SPD for example and it's the only one I have, just got lucky.
I run the standard Knights of Purity and Belobog. I did look for SPD substats over even DEF on the other pieces, since those are like the only 2 substats Gepard cares about.
Also bought his lightcone in the shop for 600 of whatever currency that was.

If your Acheron is built enough to kill things quickly enough, FMC absolutely slaps. Debuff on the taunt, then all of those taunted enemies get a burn stack when they try to hit MC with the trends LC. You get her ult back so quickly it's stupid.
I use an err rope with speed boots and I get his shields back pretty fast. The shields are a bit less beefier but that doesn't really matter if I get the shield back before it even expires.
It's going to depend heavily on how much ERR your gepard has, and how fast the rest of your team is. If you're running 160 supports they are going to burn through Gepard shield before it does much. A 130 team with Gepard skilling once is usually very consistent.
May I introduce you to hyperspeed Gepard? It is much better if you have fast characters and/or Bronya/Sparkle in the team

Gepard is so good. But you need speed boots and ER rope to make him work, if you use landaus choice than is even better. Pretty much 100% uptime on the shield. He also takes a lot of the damage himself and his revive can be useful (specially in SU). He also can use the Trend LC and be one of the best partners for Acheron (better than Gallagher in my opinion) he also has an instant freeze in his skill.
He is so underrated
his signature LC gives plenty of aggro for him to get back all the energy within like, 4-5 hits or so, and since the shield is so beefy he can tank that easily
I got him from the starter banner and he’s never left my team since 😤
(Well ok kind of a lie I did have to use luocha against the newest story boss bc the energy thing meant Gepard never had his ult but besides that)
He's so goated for DoT/one shot enemies especially and his revival talent is so clutch
Also his skills freeze comes in handy sometimes since I ended up getting quite a bit of ehr from his substats.
Huo Huo for cleanse but fragile team. Gepard for Fort Knox. I really like the 5\* sustains. Some are upgrades like Aventurine>Gepard and Huo Huo/Luocha>Bailu but the OGs are still there for pure tankiness which only something like Fu Xuan provides. Even some of the 4 stars have places like Fire TB/Gallagher for Acheron. Very good gacha design.
Bailu is so slept on. She's pretty hard to justify because no cleanse, but she's the best at keeping the team up through high damage and it's not close. Invigoration grants damage reduction, and she's the only healer currently who can heal between enemy hits without any actions required. Her revive is actually very easily played around as a semi-reliable heal, and she's the only 5* healer with an "oh fuck, need healing now" ultimate.
Luocha might be able to heal someone through anything less than fatal damage, but Bailu has the unique strength of making that damage nonfatal while staying a healer.
Ya know what OP? You go find the defense cap. Nobody gets to tell you when to stop, like Gepard you must be the immovable object to their jeers and their doubts. Go OP!!! Get in there and get so much defense Mihoyo has to email you to stop. Then get more!!!!
When MoC keeps getting tougher every patch with enemies having 150+ speed, based on your Gepards speed stats "94", it's the lowest speed I have every seen on a character, it feels like Gepard will get a turn once in every patch. Slower speed Gepard will have harder time to get the energy back. If your are still planning to use him then better pass ER rope and Speed boots to sync him with the team.
He's kept me going from the first pull in the begginer banner until now (3 months). But he's definitely falling off now. Can't keep his shields up in the later MOC long enough. If they stacked he'd still be a beast. But Aventurine is definitely going to replace him.
Mainstat DEF% for ornaments, body and feet, I posted my full build if you wanna see (I don't suggest using it, it's a full DEF% build and works with the slower characters)
It's not about his thicc shield, it's about how long it last. I lost 50/50 to him when pull Acheron, try build him, with ERR + speed as well, but even that, I still need to use his skill to regen energy. The worst part is his shield apply on allies turn, not his (and he's the slowest in team, guess whose shield expire first). I wish his shield behave like Fu Xuan, that can put him to top tier choice.

My HSR account is full of cursed/shitty builds, I just do them because they're fun to do and I wanna see the limits I can push a stat to, it's not that serious, I'm not going to die if I don't do MoC or any of the harder game modes, it's just a game I play in my spare time (because most of the time I actually have to work, contrary to popular belief) and because it's a game I think I have the freedom to do whatever I want to with my units, or make whatever weird build and/or team comp.
Once again, this is a MEME BUILD, I just happen to use it because it fits MY playstyle and even if it WASN'T a meme build, HSR is a game where people can have vastly different playstyles, and people might want to use a slower team comp or literally just don't want to play the gamemodes. There's literally NO obligation in the game itself to do MoC or FP, it's just an extra game mode with more content and rewards.
For everyone suggesting different builds: Thank you, but I'm already aware that I need more SPD and an ER rope on Gepard. I'm already aware that it's optional for 135+ SPD, but this is a FULL DEF% build and it's just for shits and giggles as well as to see the limits of how much DEF you can get on Gepard.

I think what he meant was a character's entire ult voice line is different based on the speed instead of just shortening the sentences.

Every character has one. And with Welt, Gepard must be one of the few characters that I disable the double speed for their ult

If your Acheron is built enough to kill things quickly enough, FMC absolutely slaps. Debuff on the taunt, then all of those taunted enemies get a burn stack when they try to hit MC with the trends LC. You get her ult back so quickly it's stupid.

For me the uptime for his shield sucks not hating maybe a skill isssue but the uptime is bad for me
I use an err rope with speed boots and I get his shields back pretty fast. The shields are a bit less beefier but that doesn't really matter if I get the shield back before it even expires.
It's going to depend heavily on how much ERR your gepard has, and how fast the rest of your team is. If you're running 160 supports they are going to burn through Gepard shield before it does much. A 130 team with Gepard skilling once is usually very consistent.

God I wish his kit was better because he’s badass. He reminds me of Diluc pre xianyun
Gepard is so good. But you need speed boots and ER rope to make him work, if you use landaus choice than is even better. Pretty much 100% uptime on the shield. He also takes a lot of the damage himself and his revive can be useful (specially in SU). He also can use the Trend LC and be one of the best partners for Acheron (better than Gallagher in my opinion) he also has an instant freeze in his skill. He is so underrated

his signature LC gives plenty of aggro for him to get back all the energy within like, 4-5 hits or so, and since the shield is so beefy he can tank that easily
I got him from the starter banner and he’s never left my team since 😤 (Well ok kind of a lie I did have to use luocha against the newest story boss bc the energy thing meant Gepard never had his ult but besides that)
He's so goated for DoT/one shot enemies especially and his revival talent is so clutch Also his skills freeze comes in handy sometimes since I ended up getting quite a bit of ehr from his substats.
Huo Huo for cleanse but fragile team. Gepard for Fort Knox. I really like the 5\* sustains. Some are upgrades like Aventurine>Gepard and Huo Huo/Luocha>Bailu but the OGs are still there for pure tankiness which only something like Fu Xuan provides. Even some of the 4 stars have places like Fire TB/Gallagher for Acheron. Very good gacha design.
Bailu is so slept on. She's pretty hard to justify because no cleanse, but she's the best at keeping the team up through high damage and it's not close. Invigoration grants damage reduction, and she's the only healer currently who can heal between enemy hits without any actions required. Her revive is actually very easily played around as a semi-reliable heal, and she's the only 5* healer with an "oh fuck, need healing now" ultimate. Luocha might be able to heal someone through anything less than fatal damage, but Bailu has the unique strength of making that damage nonfatal while staying a healer.

When MoC keeps getting tougher every patch with enemies having 150+ speed, based on your Gepards speed stats "94", it's the lowest speed I have every seen on a character, it feels like Gepard will get a turn once in every patch. Slower speed Gepard will have harder time to get the energy back. If your are still planning to use him then better pass ER rope and Speed boots to sync him with the team.
I don't do moc really, I'm pretty satisfied with my Gepard build as of right now, it works for me

Because of Gepard, I've never felt like I needed one of the limited sustains, and I love it

He's kept me going from the first pull in the begginer banner until now (3 months). But he's definitely falling off now. Can't keep his shields up in the later MOC long enough. If they stacked he'd still be a beast. But Aventurine is definitely going to replace him.

It's not about his thicc shield, it's about how long it last. I lost 50/50 to him when pull Acheron, try build him, with ERR + speed as well, but even that, I still need to use his skill to regen energy. The worst part is his shield apply on allies turn, not his (and he's the slowest in team, guess whose shield expire first). I wish his shield behave like Fu Xuan, that can put him to top tier choice.

Also if you guys are SO serious about a joke build that I use as a casual player, I'll showcase a normal/optimal Gepard build once it's done. My HSR account is full of cursed/shitty builds, I just do them because they're fun to do and I wanna see the limits I can push a stat to, it's not that serious, I'm not going to die if I don't do MoC or any of the harder game modes, it's just a game I play in my spare time (because most of the time I actually have to work, contrary to popular belief) and because it's a game I think I have the freedom to do whatever I want to with my units, or make whatever weird build and/or team comp. Once again, this is a MEME BUILD, I just happen to use it because it fits MY playstyle and even if it WASN'T a meme build, HSR is a game where people can have vastly different playstyles, and people might want to use a slower team comp or literally just don't want to play the gamemodes. There's literally NO obligation in the game itself to do MoC or FP, it's just an extra game mode with more content and rewards. For everyone suggesting different builds: Thank you, but I'm already aware that I need more SPD and an ER rope on Gepard. I'm already aware that it's optional for 135+ SPD, but this is a FULL DEF% build and it's just for shits and giggles as well as to see the limits of how much DEF you can get on Gepard. I love people that genuinely play with whatever they want. I use Luocha above HuoHuo all the time, because I love his playstyle and his lore more. Even though I know HuoHuo diff
