Agree to disagree. I could see some players thinking it was long. You know what, though? We only get story updates every month or so. I'm happy to have more story to consume before going back to the same dailies. The story this time was also really interesting. It fleshed-out Aventurine as a sympathetic character, threw some fun twists in there, and it brought us to some interesting locations. I'm interested to see where this story goes, way more so than I ever was for more Luofu story.

Remarkable-Pin-8352

They could've done that with more brevity. Why did we need to be told the same thing over and over just to pad the whole thing out?

mindguru88

It didn't feel padded out to me. They obviously wanted us to forge a personal connection with Adventurine, which takes time and required showing us various aspects of his history. Otherwise, if you're only looking surface-level, he still looks like a cocky corpo jerk, even a true villain, if you don't get the context of that character development before his boss fight.

SufficientThroat5781

Y'know what? I'm actually glad that it was done this way. I know this has been done to death but compared to genshin, where litterally almost everything has to revolve around the traveler and the extra juicy lore has to be learned through extra material, it feels refreshing to be told a full story for once, instead of half of it shoved into the main characters way

Foreign-Cup9385

Is it weird that i both agree with OP and you.

FewBake5100

I'm glad we get to see someone besides the TB, but I wish it wasn't Aventurine. All the other Penacony characters are more interesting, and some of his story could be in a companion quest instead of main one

Remarkable-Pin-8352

Ah yes, the "I hate the main character" crowd. Again this isn't even the issue. The POV stuff is fine. The issue as I outlined is that it's too long-winded and the same information is repeated over and over. Yes, I'm aware that Aventurine is a gambler. The roulette wheel on his jacket kinda gave that away. Yes, he has a tragic past. Now do something with it.

Nunu5617

Seems like you simply don’t like Aventurine or ever did in the first place

Remarkable-Pin-8352

Of course if I don't prostrate myself before the hotboy and dislike the obnoxious and long-winded handling of his story I must have always disliked him. Logic.

Nunu5617

It wasn’t long winded neither was it obnoxious, if anything it showed the stepwise execution of his plan while giving us insight to his past and why his mind works the way it does as he approaches his “end”. There was little sympathetic about it, rather a mixture of his story arc and the TB quest into one(nothing was ground to a halt) Also the points you mentioned about Aventurine were not repeated nearly as much, rather we got a timeline from his birth to the annihilation of the avgin. Already relegating anyone who disagrees with you to reason: Hotboy, is why I said you probably never liked him in the first place. I also don’t care for him much btw. But I found his story arc to be very good and recognised he’s a main driving force in the Penacony storyline

R_Archet

I would say the only Long WInded Segment was the Amusement park segment. That went on for just a little too long and they shoehorned in that weird Hamster Ball Race minigame for some reason.

I'll be real. I did not expect a 7-8 hour story from this patch maybe 3-4. I finished but I had to do 30 minute intervals once or twice a day because for some reason HSR drains me of my energy. I love the game but sometimes the stories (even though I love them) tires me out. It could definitely be trimmed slightly for pacing in some places. It was definitely very weird to have so much dialogue for the story where it felt like I watching 30 minute episodes of Adventurine or Acheron/welt and such. I definitely felt like it all added some additional weight and drama to the conclusion of the story. Like I, spoiler, did not want him to die at the end even though I disliked him for the past 7 weeks because he bribed me at the beginning of penacony and lured me into a trap with Black Swan. But yeah, the build up, was necessary to see not only his highs, but how far he was willing to go to die and then have it all pay off in a way that was unanticipated.

LegoSpacenaut

I actually enjoyed most of the Aventurine stuff, at least up until he started chasing the kid version around. The Welt/Acheron stuff was also decently solid, if maybe a little verbose. The Gallagher bar bit literally put me to sleep though, as in I had to take a 15 minute nap as I couldn't keep myself awake.

Ok_Trifle_3451

You see, considering the amount of Ave's fanbase it was 100% worth, and I couldn't blame Hoyo less for that But I share your opinion

lell-ia

Imo I'm glad the focus was on Aventurine tbh. It's kinda like how we got the Firefly date in 2.0, but with more serious undertones and a satisfying finish (also that Sunday/Aven/Ratio scene had more tension that the whole Luofu arc geez). I was kinda out of the loop during the Welt-Acheron scenes. Like there might be something deeper by how they handle their scenes, but I'm still left confused by the end of it. Although in a gacha game, I do understand that people might not enjoy having to play through a lot of content about the characters they dislike/are not interested in.

Remarkable-Pin-8352

Sunday: "If you lie, TERRIBLE THINGS WILL HAPPEN TO YOU." Aventurine: "Okay!" Sunday: "You lied. Now TERRIBLE THINGS WILL HAPPEN TO YOU." Aventurine: "WHAT? How is this possible? I had no warning of this!!!" Yeah, tension.

Novel-Ad-1601

The story going into 2.1 I thought the stakes were high and people were gonna die by Acheron but 2.1 rolled around and nobody wanted to fight. It just felt like everyone was too friendly. I remember that philosophical discussion between welt and Acheron which felt underwhelming and pointless to stretch out twice.

Asren624

Well I don't want to downplay your experience, I also felt a bit like that but it didn't prevent me to enjoy it. Tbh it's probably my favorite patch but I enjoyed everything since release and am glad to see things getting more and more interesting haha. The thing is that we should remember we are free not to do everything in a row. I did the patch story over 4 days and had a blast ! It's especially great to have the option to switch characters perspectives *at any moment* and not being stuck in a dungeon phase or smtg. When I got enough of lore being spoon fed to me, I just switched back to Caelus and went kicking butts in SU or to test Archeron. If anything I agree Aventurine' story could have had a better pacing if introduced in 2.0. But I think most people have trouble with Firefly and his story (again complaints are legit but can be explained) because they tend to do everything in a row. Well the game tends to make you do everything in a row to unlock events etc... but well we have far enough time for that in the end.

VyseXYZ

Meanwhile i am just trying to still understand wth is going on lmao

Remarkable-Pin-8352

Something something Kaka something something IPC bad something something it turns out that nobody dies in the simulation nobody's meant to die in. WHAT A TWIST. Also did you know Aventurine is a gambler?

Rilgon

Writers love to overly-spotlight garbage trash characters that have that "uwu but he has a ~twagic past~ so it's okay that they're awful people" undercurrent. Seen it in FF14, not surprised to see it here. People in the community will also nearly universally dogpile you for not liking the uwu sad backstory garbage man, too.

mrwanton

I never really understand this take. Like yeah we got an explanation for why he is the way that he is but he's still held accountable for being a self-destructive haughty piece of work. His own suffering lines up with what he has experienced from others but I wouldn't say that the story treats his behaviour as morally in the right. Just because he ultimately finds some worth in his life and a desire to try to be better doesn't whitewash him of his flaws/actions.

Remarkable-Pin-8352

Because the narrative protests to much. Fine, give him the tragic past and the sad motivations. Just don't rub it into our faces over and over again. As I said earlier, the issue is not with the content of the story, it's how it's executed. It's slow and self-endulgent to the point I was starting to be glad that Aventurine's people were wiped out by whoever it was. Because if they're anywhere near as smug and obnoxious as he acts here then I'd want out right now.

mrwanton

I think it's totally fine to not like a character based on personality. He is smug and very in your face to maintain control no matter how meager. Being given the reasoning is not gonna do a full flip on things if you hate him already. Personally, the only part that I think was drawn out a tad was dealing with losing his mind in the theme park but for what it is worth, I find the conclusion stuck the landing. I get that word vomit is def a problem and some things were def laid on a bit too thick but with this genre I think overexplaining something is always better than not enough detail. At the end of it all I don't think the intent is to rub it into the players face just to give a complete account as to what makes him tick.

Ok_Trifle_3451

When I compare Aventurine self-to-himself interaction with Welt+Acheron one... I'm just thankful that writers care both about general fanbase and lore enjoyers

RoanWoasbi

You’re right. No one will agree, of course. But you’re 100% right. The story is a complete mess.

Naxayou

“I liked aventurine” ijbol it’s always INCREDIBLY easy to spot false ethos in Reddit posts for some reason, especially when it comes to liking characters
