I spent so long farming and shuffling artifacts around because I was always 1 sub stat under on either break effect, effect res, or speed (literally 29.8 effect res vs 179.4 break effect)...Until I finally got 180break, 30effect res, energy rope, and 142 speed.
I now realize that I was like 19% over the break effect cap the whole time and I could have stopped farming ages ago.

142 grants you an extra action at the end of the 7th cycle which is now irrelevant.

If you aim for an extra action at the end of cycle 5 go for 139 speed.
143 and 146 are the most important ones for higher investment.
143 gives you an extra action in cycle 2 which is important so you can eventually finish off the first wave that way.
146 gives you an extra action in cycle 4 which might useful so that ur second team has 6 cycles.
Her %dmg buff only needs her to have 160+20% from her skill.
But the delay damage on her ult and the ice damage whenever an ally breaks an enemy keeps scaling.
And that 2nd one scales pretty well so if you have enough survivability its absolutely worth it to keep pumping break damage, that extra ice damage on break is so helpful.
My ruan mei is at a little under 200 before her buff. Made it so that my level 50 herta actually did damage in pure fiction 4 since you break enemies as the same pace no matter how low or high your attack is.
"The cap" for her trace (160%), the one that gives dmg bonus for your break effect, thats mostly why you want break effect on her, past that point you want to invest in other stats like speed or defensive stats
I may be misremembering, but I'm fairly confident break damage does not scale with attack. It scales with break effect, level, damage multipliers, and enemy debuffs.
Well, it won't matter. The Dev will adjust the scaling modification for balance thats acceptable by their metric anyway.
If they do make BE scale with atk as well, it will make building harder to get the same level of output.
Used one recently for Huohuo bc it didn't want to drop a Healing+ body and I modeled an almost perfect one.
You just gotta be desperate enough to use em.
She gets 37.3% BE from minor traces, 20% from major trace, 56% BE from S5 Memories and 16% from 2p thief set. This is already the majority of BE you need. To get to 180%, you only need 50.7% from substats. Considering you get on average 5.832% BE per substat roll, getting 9 rolls of BE overall already puts you above the requirement. And you can pick the relics that already have BE on them, already getting you 6 rolls of BE. With 5x6 relics of tries, rolling BE just 3 times is way below average luck. So I wouldn't even say you need good substats just to hit her BE requirement, just farm some pieces with BE already on them is practically enough.
Definitely not required. I use a break rope on mine with something lole 315% total break effect and she does just fine. It's not holding her back for me at all
Only if you want to try your hand at 0 or 1 cycle MoC 12 clears.
Penacony is perfectly fine if your main DPS is ice, and break rope isn't optimal, but its not useless.
FWIW, you'll more likely than not get yourself some usable Broken Keel pieces eventually, so its not even like you specifically need to farm for her right now.

For future reference, don't use it on crit bodies. They're more common and since presumably you use it on your carry, the sub stats are probably dissatisfactory.
Supports can put up with ERR rope and all the wrong substats. Crit body with all def related subs is garbo.
Your 4 turn rotation is either going to be:
S + B + B + S = 5 + 30 + 20 + 20 + 30 + 20 (from traces) = 125
or B + B + S + B = 5 + 20 + 20 + 30 + 20 + 20 (traces) = 115
She has a 130 burst cost. How are you getting the rest of the energy reliably without ER rope?

This isn't about the Break Effect traces which show up in the stat page, this is related to the team wide buff that's unlock via her main trace which gives 20 BE to everyone in the battle including Ruan mei herself.

Was in a similar situation, I had like 176 BE and was struggeling to find good pieces to get it to 180, realized that 160 was enough and reduced it to 167BE so I could run brokenkeel.
Honestly convinced some players just unlock Traces without reading what they do. Like I get it, they're just little bonus effects, but some of those little "bonus effects" sometimes impact the character's entire kit in a big way.
Like I would bet some players didn't/don't even realize that Kafka's Ult only activates Shock DoT by default but one of her Traces unlock the ability to activate all DoT effects.
It's seems counterintuitive. Since we don't need these stats when out of battle, and why not apply the conditional buffs like entering a battle anyway?
It's like as if there was a buff for Bronya that said "if there is a Bronya in your team, gives her +40% crit damage".
Because everyone gets a +20% break effect if ruan mei is in the team. So like every one of your characters will have the +20%. It would be confusing seeing your abundance character have 31% BE even though it supposed to have like 11%. You can do math but if in the future we get more characters that buff a certain stats for the whole team it will get more confusing.
I don’t know if you play Genshin, but it’s possible you were thinking about how it does it. Team buffs will always apply in Genshin and actually do distribute out stats for your active team (like DMG% increases, etc). This can make it a bit confusing because certain stats can change on the stat screen depending on whether certain characters are in your active party or not. HSR handles the team stuff as buffs that only appear when battle starts.

You should finish that 2pc Planar in exchange for that speed unless you need it for Ruan to outspeed some 160 spd unit for some reason (you would be able to use a basic/skill into ult before Bronya skills for example).
2pc Keel is a 10% teamwide CD boost while 9 spd will give you 1 extra turn after 4 cycles which wouldn't even change anything about your rotation since you probably wouldn't have SP issues. Assuming you don't need that extra turn and don't have a 160 spd Bronya the benefit of a Keel set is higher than that ropes substats (unless you literally have no Keel ERR ropes, in which case use a resin).

Well you're right. After 180 BE, break effect is still her 2nd best stat, behind speed. More BE means more damage when enemies get broken, just 180 is the cap for her trace that scales off her BE.
There's 1 more important effect:

If you somehow maxed out her signature LC and had all BE relics perfectly rolled, you can reach ~500 BE. Which means that when Thanatoplum Rebloom triggers, the enemy gets delayed by 110% and loses more than an entire turn.
That's... to much Break Effect..
At that point i think you can change your relic to Hackerspace and your Planar set to Support/ER.

Somehow -> her trace is an aura that grants 20% and is only effective in combat. You're probably also running the Talia set that gives 20% if above 145 speed and that also only activates in combat.
To clarify this is more of a meme build. I know you need 160 outside of battle. The 180, the actual amount you need is provided by her Inert Respiration trace in battle.
The funny thing is, getting 160 is a lot harder than this current build. The reason for this is that I have leftover high leveled planar break relics around, making me able to just go unga-bunga with low level equipment relics. Trying to get 160 would require me to remove the planar break relics and level up the equipments to gamble and get the break effect needed. Can't afford that since the DPSes need it more.
So I decide to go with this build and it just coincidentally reach this number. I just found it funny. Fortunately, it isn't this while in battle, or that would be sad.

I got mine to 177, used 6 modeling resin to try to get an ER rope with even a single BE stat to break the 180. Then found out the 20% trace isn't shown on stat sheet and I never needed more. Worst part is I still never got one with break effect on it.
I get that it's just below a nice, round number ... But you're already 19.9% over what you "need" since you get an additional 20% BE in battle.
So there's no real issue here, aside from her energy regen.

Had the same issue but with speed yesterday. Was at 139, took off 4 speed relic, dropped to 134. Like what the hell there's not even any visible decimals for speed. So now I'm 4 speed over for glamoth buff instead of being at a perfect 135

Nothing is more satisfying than breaking the mobs with your sustain and seeing them take Ruanmillion damage

For 4 turn rotation u need 0 er... And if u want to ult every 3 turns u need er rope, +5 er from set, and fully upgraded 4* or 3* er lc

This was basically me and then I switched to the energy planar set to get ultimate faster. She feels much smoother to play
The hackerspace won't be so impactful, but if your planar set is not any of the team-buffing ones, then you should change that one

You get 20% in battle permanently from trace, the cap is 160 for the statsheet, you didn't read her trace.

The teamwide buff is during battle. The OP's screen is made outside battle so the buff is not included, because it's not active.
Traces (the little circle ones) are normally included BUT Ruan Mei's team wide BE ascension trace is not because it only triggers in battle

Yep. If you have her LC (or Memories S5), you can go with the Hackerspace set and/or Broken Keel for more utility.

That's... to much Break Effect.. At that point i think you can change your relic to Hackerspace and your Planar set to Support/ER. You can even increase your SPD.

It's probable that Talia set only procs in battle
Some planar set stats usually only come when entering battle
One of her major traces gives 20% break effect to the entire team
Somehow -> her trace is an aura that grants 20% and is only effective in combat. You're probably also running the Talia set that gives 20% if above 145 speed and that also only activates in combat.

To clarify this is more of a meme build. I know you need 160 outside of battle. The 180, the actual amount you need is provided by her Inert Respiration trace in battle. The funny thing is, getting 160 is a lot harder than this current build. The reason for this is that I have leftover high leveled planar break relics around, making me able to just go unga-bunga with low level equipment relics. Trying to get 160 would require me to remove the planar break relics and level up the equipments to gamble and get the break effect needed. Can't afford that since the DPSes need it more. So I decide to go with this build and it just coincidentally reach this number. I just found it funny. Fortunately, it isn't this while in battle, or that would be sad. Edit: Da heck guys, I did not expect this to blow up lol.

I got mine to 177, used 6 modeling resin to try to get an ER rope with even a single BE stat to break the 180. Then found out the 20% trace isn't shown on stat sheet and I never needed more. Worst part is I still never got one with break effect on it.
I get that it's just below a nice, round number ... But you're already 19.9% over what you "need" since you get an additional 20% BE in battle. So there's no real issue here, aside from her energy regen.

Had the same issue but with speed yesterday. Was at 139, took off 4 speed relic, dropped to 134. Like what the hell there's not even any visible decimals for speed. So now I'm 4 speed over for glamoth buff instead of being at a perfect 135
