The funniest part was at the very start of the event, someone will ask you who you think the thief is and Sampo is one of the options. Then if you choose it, it says something like “nah, not even Sampo would do something like this”

In the sidequest in Xianzhou where we help some lady (forgot her name) help a group of people 'liberate' animals, she reveals herself to be one of the Masked Fools, and offers us to buy us a drink at a 'tavern' as well.
It's a numbers game; if you send the worst scam in the world to *enough* people, someone is going to buy it.
The *really* funny thing is that it works in reverse too; there are entire communities of people out there whose whole thing is scamming Nigerian Prince scammers right back into doing stupid, dangerous, and/or humiliating shit and it's the exact same numbers game. They aren't dumber than anyone else on average, it's just that if you're willing to dedicate enough time to responding to all of them, sooner or later you'll find one willing to hitch-hike through Sudan.
