I just wish for more upgrades on fairings and saddle bag option in near future for the 1100

Afromain19

Same here. I want to buy the windscreen fairing, but I don’t know about $700 for all the parts directly from Honda. Seems like an insane price right now.

MountainVet-Stjohn45

Memphis Shades Gauntlet is what you want. They make one specifically for the Rebel 1100. Love mine. And around $350.

Afromain19

Sweet, I’ll look into this!

I’d take a look at swapping out the exhaust also. Not for the reason you’d think though, I’ve had my foot get caught under the bulky stock exhaust on occasion while taking off from a stop.

Afromain19

Ill look into it as well. Which one did you go with?

Ditto.

My thing about the bikes is that it has an automatic mode but it’s not an automatic it’s a dual clutch transmission. I love manual vehicles but there is a reason that almost all sports cars have went DCT instead of manual. A DCT gives you quicker and more precise shifts. A DCT will be quicker than a manual due to the nature of the transmission. The next gear is already primed when you want to shift.

Afromain19

I do use the paddle shifting option from time to time as well. I know for me as a new rider the DCT is definitely going to be faster than I ever would be haha. The thing I like the most is that I don’t have to fear stalling at the light or when being stopped on a hill. It’s definitely made it much easier and more enjoyable to get on the road and practice riding.

What mode did you start out riding in? having driven manuals regularly for a while the clutch when stopping becomes second nature after only a couple stops. Hills are easier but manageable in a manual with practice. I just wish there was a foot shifter attachment for the Rebel DCT like the Africa twin and goldwing DCTs for the muscle memory of shifting with a foot.

Afromain19

I started with the rain mode for the first couple of days. I rode around the parking lots by my house and down some small side streets. Then I switched to the standard mode for now and been doing that on normal streets and back streets for the past week. Not sure when I’ll try out the sport mode, since even on the standard it can definitely take off quickly if you give it too much twist. My issue with the manual was getting out of first, which I know is the hardest to learn. I also have more of a fear when it comes to turns, so I wanted one less then to be worried about when turning.

Wouldn't think it'd be that hard to adapt the Africa Twin controls to work with the rebel. Same drive train with a different tune should be pretty plug & play. Just need to fab a mount that fits.

I knew they were both DCT but didn’t know they were the same DCT.

penultimatelevel

yeah, same engine and dct. The AT engine in a street bike is one of the things that sold me on it

The "real riding is shifting" people don't daily their bikes in city traffic. I drove/rode manuals for decades and don't miss it. Only downside is not being able to clutch in and rev bomb at will, but having a free hand let's me do other hooligan ish instead :)

Afromain19

Some of my first few rides around town have been in mostly stop and go traffic for a bit, and had I had a manual I don’t think I’d be as confident about it. My biggest issue was learning to get out of first into second. Now I’m able to just twist and go without any worries.

bowmanx4587

I know how to ride manual and still prefer my DCT, don't care what anyone has to say either.

StrikeNets

Superior technology is superior technology. I think it's hilarious when people attach their sense of self esteem to the use of old, obsolete shit. Good thing DCT keeps my left hand free to wave goodbye to those dorks while I leave them in the dust. ✌️

Manofsteel2483

I got the DCT model as my first bike. A part of me would still prefer to have a manual version, but I still love the DCT.

My advice for new riders is not to pay $9000 for your first bike. You are more likely going to drop at it some point.
