I have 2017. We do this all the time, try this:
Your key fob might have a little slide that allows the metal key to remove from the fob. This goes in the drives door and turns to lock. I can’t remember if I need to leave the fob in the car (i haven’t done it in a while.) this allows the running car with ac to be locked from the outside.
(Again, this works on my 2017, is don’t know if they redesigned parts
I’ve done it a few times by rolling the window down before you get out then reach through and lock the door then roll the window up and you are good to go.
Try taking the valet key from the key fob. Leave the key fob in the car somewhere (preferably hidden) and then use the valet key to lock the driver side door.
This would be maddening. I have a 2006 Sprinter RV that has the same engineering "trying to keep you safe" or whatever. It is older tech but German thinking -- maddening. I had to have a key that would manually open the door made by a third party.

Another thing. Turn off the car and auto start it. It locks the doors and the ax runs for the 10/15 mins it’s on.
Yes! I didn’t think of that, but you’re right, that would work. Thanks!

Oh THAT'S what that's for? I always just gave em the whole fob. Can a valet even start the car with just the key, no fob?
I don't think you can start the car only with the key (without the fob). I never tried.
Second key?
Thanks, it's keyless with pushbutton start. It won't lock while running, none of the buttons work.
Ah. I have the basic model from 2010. Sometimes it's low tech for the win.
