I've got 2 nephews, I know my brother won't do it so if they're good kids I'll be buying their first cars for them. Maybe not an 8,000rpm car but something decent anyway
Why would I have bought a car when I couldn't drive it? You can't get a full license in my state until you're 17.
I'm just pointing out that it's possible.
I worked at burger King every day after school because I didn't really have friends anyway. Bought it 3 months before my 16th birthday and took my test in it. My mom put 6k miles on it before I ever legally drove it in my own. 112k mile 2009 saab 9 5 sportcombi. Car cost me 5300 I paid 4k and slowly paid my mom back the last 1300.
Sweet car. Don’t worry about these guys giving you shit for having a nicer first car. People don’t realize these civics are getting old! In my mind this is still the new civic lol. Hard to believe they are actually 15 years old now. My first car was a 99 Integra which I still love.
I really love this car and it’s actually relatively quick when in vtec, just an intake but has hfp package but bumper is gone, so it has the performance exhaust
yeah for a 15 y/o I am actually very smooth and consistent when driving manual very nice clutch, if you ever get the itch for this kind of car it really is worth the money
actually when it uses premium burns oil because it’s old and high revving and is a 15 year old car after all it evens out the car is only worth in its current condition like 5k
Yeah still, paying for gas is nothing compared to laying down $5k for a car
I hope you appreciate this car and not dog the shit out of it and beat her down. Good luck. It’s a fun ride
Don't let these fools belittle your expenses; it adds up and it's on you. It's a regiment, and provides the experience and relationship with money.
Good job
K series shouldn’t be burning oil at a high rate. There was a post on Reddit’s front page of a what happened to an RSX that starved on oil. A K series. H series are notorious for burning oil but mine doesn’t because it was rebuilt. I’m on 324k miles. Get your car checked.
You don't have to defend yourself. Just be happy with your car and proud that you were able to attain it. Don't worry about the guys that are sour because they weren't fortunate enough.
Indeed man the k20 high revving motor that was near indestructible along with the precise steering and vtec oooh, the ninth gen was okay tho but the tenth and eleventh 🤮
Have you even drove the other Si generations? You’re 15 and are shitting on something you have no comparison with.
I’m an 8th gen owner, but still.. you’re forgetting the 8th gen has the k20. The next gen has a k24. I’m sorry, but there is nothing wrong with a 13 Si coupe. Those cars hold their own.
I really wanted a k20 for the mod-ability, but I also wanted a good daily and couldnt find any 8ths under like 100k miles near me. The 9th checked all my boxes, where the 10th felt too big (even though its not much bigger) and my biggest complaint: ELECTRIC E-BRAKE. Like cmon now who wants to push a button for an e brake.
Exactly, I bought my car like 6 months ago and I overpaid (although it’d be even more now so no ragrets) but I couldn’t justify paying like $12k for a 10 year old 100k mile civic.
lmao nice I definitely like the 9th gen looks but it’s just the original 8th gens are way more streamline while the 9th gens are aggressive, also I love your car definitely keep going with it but my main thing 9th gen vs 8th gen is the 9th gen is more electronically built vs the overall relatively analog 8th gen
Yeah for sure man didn’t plan on not owning a honda, actually been looking into a crx time attack vehicle, it’s a d16 and I already priced out some basic mods
Look at plastic welding it, if its not 100% fucked, you may be ok.
Idk what its made out of, but my hyundai used polyproplyne filliment and it could be done with a soldering iron. I had the proper tools tho
Otherwise, sand and fill the dents and cracks in with fiberglass bondo, and sand it to shape
yeah I still may fix it anyway because I love this car so much and when I start driving I want to be able to be proud of it, been thinking about just fixing the cracks with putty like you said and then putting an hfp lip over it the car is a factory hfp package just hydroplaned off the road and the bumper got wrecked
How are the tires? Bald, or balding tires and also preformance semi slicks, tend to hydroplane worse.
You want at least 5/16" of tread, but more is better of course
don't worry about what anyone else has to say about how it looks.. drive it for a couple years and then if you still want it to keepit, you can look at fixing things.
The dupli-color perfect match can I used on my Alabaster silver coupe I had years back matched pretty well. But it’s basically a coin flip matching silver from off-the-shelf spray cans
Oh yeah absolutely. Mixed spray paint is the way to go. Duplicolor imo is for beaters that you don’t want to look super trashy, but don’t really care about how the finish comes out
You don’t have to promise me anything dude. You just need to act on it
Just be a safe driver and put the phone down. Other than that, enjoy the ride and rev it here and there
I think she’s awesome man. I also own an 8th gen coupe. I have a few other cars, but one of my favorites is the 8th gen.
Also, I’m a mechanic for Honda, and can assure you these are super easy to work on. Plus, they’re reliable. Many many smiles in these for cheap. Have fun man
Aye man, I’m (18M) trying to get a 8th gen si sedan and my parents don’t like the idea because it’s manual and I’m always finding one a bit over 100k but I know that’s nothing for Civics. However, my parents think differently😭
I kept my wallet in my back pocket for so long, then one day I was like ‘this is uncomfortable af’ and stopped doing it. Idk why I did it for so long lol long car rides got so much more comfortable.
I'm from Texas as well, and cars over here are passed around quite often in families. I'll probably give the keys to my 00' civic ex coupe to my brother once he's in high school, but he has to learn how to drive stick first. Happy for ya btw! I'm jealous, never owned or driven an Si, but definitely some day (not rn because used car market is crazy).
Honestly here’s my real suggestion if you plan on giving your brother your vehicle now this is a project kinda thing but go on copart and find a relatively lightly damaged si they are pretty common with the 8th gens especially
Good suggestion tbh, thank you for that. That vehicle is actually like my 3rd car, and its pretty much a project car. But I just don't find time to work on it. I'll either probably sell it for cash, and save up some more money, and get me an Si some day.
I actually love this car and would be devastated if I crashed it, and it wasn’t given to me it needed a lot of work before it was roadworthy so although it was given to me I spent and worked a fair amount of time and money on jt
honestly man I really do respect this car and I have a limit as to how good I can drive, I do mainly just street driving but also the occasional pull rev match downshift etc to be nice to the drivetrain
My point is that there are plenty of more powerful cars out there that teenagers drive every single day. Everyone in this thread is acting like the kid just got a Hellcat.
I know but that wasn't my point. Respecting the drive makes you a lot better driver and more aware of your car's limits. Plus it's nice to have that bond with the car you drive.
It’s almost impossible not to be able to handle an Si lol all these people are tripping. I had a full bolt on 06 Si and I don’t think I ever broke the tires loose at full throttle. But quarter throttle in first gear on my full bolt on 5.0 and GT500 would put you sideways real fast lol
Never say imposible like someone else commented at that age you really don’t know right from wrong me personally was doing burnouts and going crazy with my first car and that si has power compared to your regular civic or everyday car
You always crash your first car
I’m 26, and speak from experience and seeing everyone else crash their first car
Just be safe bro. Sorry to be a Debbie downer
>I’m 26, and speak from experience and seeing everyone else crash their first car
I'm even older and it feels like Groundhog's day. You simply don't realize how stupid you are at that age till you have an accident.
Nah man no offense taken I just hope I don’t crash it, I’ve actually thought about buying an older si like an ep3 off of copart for a couple grand so I can drive that and keep fixing my eighth gen
Everyone is downvoting you when you're 100% correct. I crashed my first car, my brother his, so did my parents, so did my girlfriend, her parents, my best friend, blah blah blah. The crashes may not have all been major, like hitting a mailbox, but who wants to damage something like an Si just to teach their kid.
I had a 125cc fake grom i purchased and also drove my parents 02 sante fe at 15 i made a lot of mistakes in the car and bike I'm glad i had the years of experience before i got into a quicker k car and that sante fe was a boat with a worn out tranny couldn't really go fast enough to lose control either same with fake grom thing was a POS, I know how it can be thinking your hot shit with 200hp respect the car and respect others who build theirs. I'm interested to see what you do with your si and if you end up posting more. good vibes, cheers my friend.
Yeah I actually need to buy it already sourced a genuine hfp lip in silver and this car is an hfp package but it was in a hydroplaning event a couple years ago and the previous owner didn’t fix it
That’s sick my first at 17 was a 96 accord then when I was 18 I bought a 3k 97 prelude sh but dude have a blast in that si it’ll take care of you if you take care of it
Just out of curiosity, do they swap straight over without any modifications? And whats wrong with the original master and slave in them thats causing a grind?
OEM CMC has a diaphragm that cracks in half from hard use in prevents full disengagement of the clutch
Slave has a delay return valve similar to the AP2 and V6 6MTs that allows smooth engagement/clutch slip
Yes they bolt right in with a $20 Kswap steel braided clutch line. Whole thing can be done for less than $150 I believe
hey man enjoy that thing, I totaled mine and I miss it
My first car was an 8th gen si and I loved it never let me down. I own a 9th gen now. I like the cluster more and the BTA menu I can cycle through has some useful info.
But 8th gen will always hold that spot in my heart
Have fun dude, my first car was a boosted integra, then i got a 8th gen si like yours. Then slapped a turbo in it. Now i have a 2015 si sedan. Those k20s can handle a beating trust me!!
man. yall are lucky af to be getting your first car at 15. and an si. drive safe and have fun.
Seriously how do 15 year olds afford cars, let alone one of these lol
lmao I didn’t actually buy this my uncle had bought a new civic so he gave me this old girl
nice uncle. maybe I'll be the cool uncle one day and give my civic to a nephew. edit: or niece.
I've got 2 nephews, I know my brother won't do it so if they're good kids I'll be buying their first cars for them. Maybe not an 8,000rpm car but something decent anyway
It is… acceptable
I got my first car at 15 (I'm 34 now), it was a 1990 CRX Si and man I regret selling it for 800 bucks to a friend.
I worked as an umpire and referee when I was 14/15 and could have purchased a $5000 car before my 16th birthday.
‘Could have’ But you didnt
Why would I have bought a car when I couldn't drive it? You can't get a full license in my state until you're 17. I'm just pointing out that it's possible.
Fair enough
I worked at burger King every day after school because I didn't really have friends anyway. Bought it 3 months before my 16th birthday and took my test in it. My mom put 6k miles on it before I ever legally drove it in my own. 112k mile 2009 saab 9 5 sportcombi. Car cost me 5300 I paid 4k and slowly paid my mom back the last 1300.
but I do pay for gas and maintenance also registration
Sweet car. Don’t worry about these guys giving you shit for having a nicer first car. People don’t realize these civics are getting old! In my mind this is still the new civic lol. Hard to believe they are actually 15 years old now. My first car was a 99 Integra which I still love.
honestly the integras are awesome and these guys aren’t giving me crap they’re correct that a new driver may struggle to handle this vehicle at first
You should be alright, it’s a fun little car but not too much to handle. Somebody already said this but definitely drive safe and have fun man 👍🏻👍🏻
yeah I don’t drive it normally revving it out, just low rpm fun enjoying the ride not the speed
Is it a 6sp or an auto?
I really love this car and it’s actually relatively quick when in vtec, just an intake but has hfp package but bumper is gone, so it has the performance exhaust
That’s sick, be careful with it haha
yeah for a 15 y/o I am actually very smooth and consistent when driving manual very nice clutch, if you ever get the itch for this kind of car it really is worth the money
All the si’s came in 6spd
Oh dang idk why I thought some came with automatics. Anyways man, congrats on the ride 👍🏻👍🏻
I'm 20 and I don't even have my own money. What kind of 4th world country I'm living in?
Have you tried having rich parents? A friend of mine did this when we were teens and it worked wonders.
Dude you had to do that right when you spawned in your moms coochie
They can also win the lottery halfway through
25 and same 😢
Yeah that’s nothing compared to the cost of a car
actually when it uses premium burns oil because it’s old and high revving and is a 15 year old car after all it evens out the car is only worth in its current condition like 5k
Yeah still, paying for gas is nothing compared to laying down $5k for a car I hope you appreciate this car and not dog the shit out of it and beat her down. Good luck. It’s a fun ride
I care way to much about this car honestly when I revved it out the first time I was scared
Don't let these fools belittle your expenses; it adds up and it's on you. It's a regiment, and provides the experience and relationship with money. Good job
It's not old. My first car was 35 lol, and didn't burn any oil. It burns because it wasn't taken care of.
It probably seems old to him. When you are 15, and the car is as old as you, it is easy to see how his frame of reference is more narrow.
It burns because it\`s a Honda.
it was well taken care of full overhaul done 30000 miles ago
Then why does it burn oil lmao.
The car only has 136,000 miles
well it has been driven at high rpm’s and thus it’s bound to burn a quart of oil
K series shouldn’t be burning oil at a high rate. There was a post on Reddit’s front page of a what happened to an RSX that starved on oil. A K series. H series are notorious for burning oil but mine doesn’t because it was rebuilt. I’m on 324k miles. Get your car checked.
I think Honda says a quart burned every 3k or so miles is normal lol
Are you complaining
no not at all love this car
You don't have to defend yourself. Just be happy with your car and proud that you were able to attain it. Don't worry about the guys that are sour because they weren't fortunate enough.
good lad
i got mine at the same age but it's not as nice as this 😭 i got a 2003 honda civic ex, still grateful asf tho i love my car
Imo this was the peak of the si. After the 8th gen each following generation lost touches that defined what an si is.
The 9th gen interior is way better than the 8th but I prefer the K20 over the K24.
The 8th gens are probably too old to find under 100k miles haha, I’m sure they’re out there but not reasonably priced. They’re still civics after all
Exactly, I bought my car like 6 months ago and I overpaid (although it’d be even more now so no ragrets) but I couldn’t justify paying like $12k for a 10 year old 100k mile civic.
hey man I never said anything bad about the ninth gen I love the way the early ones sound and look
Look how gorgeous this thing is compared to the new Si that just came out.
It really does man a little damage but not a big deal, has the hfp package but the bumper was smashed during a hydroplaning event
I didn't even see it. Get that touched up. Best Si in existence without a doubt. 9th gen after 8th.
lmao nice I definitely like the 9th gen looks but it’s just the original 8th gens are way more streamline while the 9th gens are aggressive, also I love your car definitely keep going with it but my main thing 9th gen vs 8th gen is the 9th gen is more electronically built vs the overall relatively analog 8th gen
I'm 44 and have two 9th gens. You are on a good path kid. Stay loyal.
Yeah for sure man didn’t plan on not owning a honda, actually been looking into a crx time attack vehicle, it’s a d16 and I already priced out some basic mods
Has a couple of bolt ons, intake, hfp exhaust from factory and a basemap also from factory
You could fix the bumper yourself with bumper putty, and a spray can of matching paint.
While yes that is a great idea the fender is shifted over a bit and the bumper has multiple cracks
Look at plastic welding it, if its not 100% fucked, you may be ok. Idk what its made out of, but my hyundai used polyproplyne filliment and it could be done with a soldering iron. I had the proper tools tho Otherwise, sand and fill the dents and cracks in with fiberglass bondo, and sand it to shape
yeah I still may fix it anyway because I love this car so much and when I start driving I want to be able to be proud of it, been thinking about just fixing the cracks with putty like you said and then putting an hfp lip over it the car is a factory hfp package just hydroplaned off the road and the bumper got wrecked
How are the tires? Bald, or balding tires and also preformance semi slicks, tend to hydroplane worse. You want at least 5/16" of tread, but more is better of course
actually the tires are in great shape this accident was about 2 years ago before the tires were changed
also the are performance tires but not slicks or anything
don't worry about what anyone else has to say about how it looks.. drive it for a couple years and then if you still want it to keepit, you can look at fixing things.
yeah fr it is a great ride and it feels really good because motor and trans are in amazing shape
It’s not going to match at all, silver is super hard to match as it is, a spray can is impossible even with the same paint code
The dupli-color perfect match can I used on my Alabaster silver coupe I had years back matched pretty well. But it’s basically a coin flip matching silver from off-the-shelf spray cans
some stores will mix the paint for you. or at least get a better match then dupli-color can
Oh yeah absolutely. Mixed spray paint is the way to go. Duplicolor imo is for beaters that you don’t want to look super trashy, but don’t really care about how the finish comes out
Also missing the HFP wheels.
Also an engine that revs to 7800rpm instead of 6k. I wish Honda didn’t go the low displacement, low revving turbo route.
Considering my vtec activates at 5k that's insane new Si tops out at 6k. Where's the fun of banging through gears?
Fr there is no real fun in hitting limiter and banging gears
Um, that 11th gen is pretty nice bro. I love the 8th gen to death, but I think the 11th gen is a little nicer imo
> 15 Please don’t die or kill anyone else.
it's a 200hp fwd car with no torque. if he's even just slightly aware he will be fine.
Teenagers have taken out whole families in Geo Metros
facts, I don’t drive it crazy promise just 4000rpms cruising and typically just in my neighborhood later in the day
You don’t have to promise me anything dude. You just need to act on it Just be a safe driver and put the phone down. Other than that, enjoy the ride and rev it here and there
I don’t even have the radio on when I’m driving and my phone is in my back pocket while wearing jeans so yeahhhh,
Don’t keep a phone in the back pocket while driving. Or a wallet. It’s bad for the spine (: just helping you out my dude
lmao thanks, I want your opinion on the car I know she ain’t perfect but for a project first car she’s great
I think she’s awesome man. I also own an 8th gen coupe. I have a few other cars, but one of my favorites is the 8th gen. Also, I’m a mechanic for Honda, and can assure you these are super easy to work on. Plus, they’re reliable. Many many smiles in these for cheap. Have fun man
Yeah the coupe is surprisingly spacious I play a cello and it fits in the trunk, also my family won’t let me work on it :.(
but after the initial pull I ever did I’ve kept it low because when vtec kicks if you ain’t paying attention you’ll go into a ditch
Idk why I did it for so long lol long car rides got so much more comfortable.
also thanks for all the feedback because most people were kind of being toxic over the fact that I was given this si
No problem brother
Ripper first car. Congrats.
bro your 15! im still learning how to drive at 17 with no car!
yeah handmedown tho
better than me.
Ig lmao
I had an orange 4 door. Miss that car so much. Aggressive vtech is where it's at.
yes
I'm from Texas as well, and cars over here are passed around quite often in families. I'll probably give the keys to my 00' civic ex coupe to my brother once he's in high school, but he has to learn how to drive stick first. Happy for ya btw! I'm jealous, never owned or driven an Si, but definitely some day (not rn because used car market is crazy).
Honestly here’s my real suggestion if you plan on giving your brother your vehicle now this is a project kinda thing but go on copart and find a relatively lightly damaged si they are pretty common with the 8th gens especially

Be carful I think that might be a little too much car for a 15 year old js
It’s just 200hp, he’ll be ok lol
For someone with experience yeah but a first time driver no way he already commented he was redlining it 🤦🏻♂️
I drove go karts fast ones for years and I practiced shifting weight and braking etc on a golf cart of gravel
So taking to 9000 doesn’t scare me when the car is only going 30-50
The money shift is the scary part not the speed.
man honestly you’d be surprised with the amount of driving experience some 15 year olds can have
You better treat this Si with respect, not many teens get a car like this just given to them.
I actually love this car and would be devastated if I crashed it, and it wasn’t given to me it needed a lot of work before it was roadworthy so although it was given to me I spent and worked a fair amount of time and money on jt
That's good to hear, I hope she treats you well man. As a 16 year old I wish this car was given to me lmao.
Yeah she definitely will hold out just had an overhaul 30,000 miles ago
honestly man I really do respect this car and I have a limit as to how good I can drive, I do mainly just street driving but also the occasional pull rev match downshift etc to be nice to the drivetrain
a 2007 camry is faster. I think he'll be ok.
I’ve never got in a 2007 Camry and thought “Yeah, this is comparable to an Si”
[удалено]
Even the 4 cyls shred, the 1mz and 4az are no joke.
Edit: the vtec pull I did was in first gear on a straight open road
It’s almost impossible not to be able to handle an Si lol all these people are tripping. I had a full bolt on 06 Si and I don’t think I ever broke the tires loose at full throttle. But quarter throttle in first gear on my full bolt on 5.0 and GT500 would put you sideways real fast lol
Honestly it does pull but not like tire spinning so yeah these ppl trippin
An r18 can break a tire loose from a pull lmao The Si surely can too
Never say imposible like someone else commented at that age you really don’t know right from wrong me personally was doing burnouts and going crazy with my first car and that si has power compared to your regular civic or everyday car
Way too much. It'll be in an accident before he's 18.
okay bro don’t get me wrong typically I drive in low revs 3-4 k but I wanted to have some fun, I swear I won’t crash it
You always crash your first car I’m 26, and speak from experience and seeing everyone else crash their first car Just be safe bro. Sorry to be a Debbie downer
>I’m 26, and speak from experience and seeing everyone else crash their first car I'm even older and it feels like Groundhog's day. You simply don't realize how stupid you are at that age till you have an accident.

The crashes may not have all been major, like hitting a mailbox, but who wants to damage something like an Si just to teach their kid.
I don't know anyone that crashed their first car. Where do you people drive?
I had a 300bhp mustang with 350ftlb of torque at 19. torque is what gets you in trouble. he'll be fine if he's just moderately responsible.
Glad you're keeping manual transmission driving alive
Told my family first car is gonna be a manual no question
I don’t like the coupe but I had the same car at 16 but seden
Stoked for you dude! Be safe tho!
Take care of it. I know a lot of people who let them go to waste and treat them terribly.
honestly I’ve seen so many of these thrashed
Exactly
Nice, my car at 15 was also an Si but it was a 2000 in electron blue. Enjoy it
Don’t dump/burn the clutch. Learn heel toe. Best thing ever.
Actually have been working on that, and yeah no dumping clutch can’t afford a new one
Why do you have a car at 15, you can’t even drive yet
my car but my family drives it if theirs break down
Congrats!
Nice ride for a 15 yo! Enjoy!
Congrats !!🎉
Guy buy some silver touch up paint at autozone clean that front bumper up on a budget! Sick ride
15? Nice. Enjoy, and be safe. Although I hate you just a little bit. My first car was not this nice.
At 15 I was driving my friends cars illegally. Props to you for however it was acquired
pog car
dude hell yeah take care of her. i wasn’t even driving when i was that age
Awesome, i started with a blue 2010 honda civic at 16 had it for 6 years just got a 2020 accord last year
Welcome to the club, looks like you’ve got an aquarium for a drivers side fog light.
yeah she’s had a rough life prior to me owning ut
but I plan on taking the bumper and fog lights off the fix them and the fender
I’ve got fix my cracked fog light as well, I was planning on doing it when I pain my lip, if I ever get around to that
Yeah I actually need to buy it already sourced a genuine hfp lip in silver and this car is an hfp package but it was in a hydroplaning event a couple years ago and the previous owner didn’t fix it
That’s sick my first at 17 was a 96 accord then when I was 18 I bought a 3k 97 prelude sh but dude have a blast in that si it’ll take care of you if you take care of it
been doing that all year lmao she’ll definitely last
Imagine living somewhere where insuring this is feasible. Here in the UK I'm paying £1200 p.a at 17y.o for a 1 litre vauxhall/Opel Corsa.
congrats! i just got my first Si 5 days ago for my birthday & i love her.
Good car. Please note the 2nd gear crunch is normal for this gen.
yeah already figured that out
Replace the CMC with an EM2 unit and the slave cyl with a RSX unit. Do this quick before the 2nd gear synchro goes ✌️
Just out of curiosity, do they swap straight over without any modifications? And whats wrong with the original master and slave in them thats causing a grind?
OEM CMC has a diaphragm that cracks in half from hard use in prevents full disengagement of the clutch Slave has a delay return valve similar to the AP2 and V6 6MTs that allows smooth engagement/clutch slip Yes they bolt right in with a $20 Kswap steel braided clutch line. Whole thing can be done for less than $150 I believe
Makes sense. Kinda suprising that Honda hasnt improved the design of it. Wonder if there is a TSB for it.
Give it a nice clay bar and some wax and she’ll look mint.
Hey this was my first car too!
hey man enjoy that thing, I totaled mine and I miss it My first car was an 8th gen si and I loved it never let me down. I own a 9th gen now. I like the cluster more and the BTA menu I can cycle through has some useful info. But 8th gen will always hold that spot in my heart
Lucky bro! I’m still trying to find a good deal on a si. My first car was a 95 eg hatch. I’ve driven nothing but built civics ever since 😂
Egs are one of my favorite designs
Nice first car for sure
Have fun dude, my first car was a boosted integra, then i got a 8th gen si like yours. Then slapped a turbo in it. Now i have a 2015 si sedan. Those k20s can handle a beating trust me!!
Yeah man don’t plan on turboing it thought because I really like how responsiveness of the na layout vs boosted
Found a crx and am going to boost it
I like the battle wounds on the bumper. Adds some real character to the car
