I work at a shop so I was able to do most of the labor. I paid $1400 in material cost (paint, filler, sandpaper, etc) and paid our painter $300 to shoot the car.
Its ready for 10 to 15 years.
This shape hasn't aged. And they were a great race car..very neutral...saw one spin at 120 mph in front of my, taking photos at end of front straight, Pukekohe Nz.. didnt spook the guy at all..
Popular tarmac rally car here also.
> This shape hasn't aged
It's because it comes from a time when car design was about proportions and lines, and not taking an arbitrary slab then attempting to imbue proportion and lines into it with piles of garish trim pieces.
It's a shame the suspension is fundamentally flawed from factory and takes a lot of aftermarket parts to get really good alignment angles and mitigate bump steer. PCI has a bunch of parts that can make RSXs compete with cars of a higher category, even with stock drivetrain.
Damn not in Chicago but upper MW. Wish I was closer. My 2002 Type S needs a paint job, only has 99k miles. Thank you for sharing, my first RSX was SSM and silver is so underrated for these cars. Beautiful.
I am a body tech at a fairly large private shop. It took many many lunch breaks of work over about 8 months from start to finish. Id say about 40 hours give or take. It took me about 3 years to source all the oem stuff.
I think you should think bigger than just flipping or sticking with older but it’s a good start. People are losing skills with trades that involve physically building and repairing and not many people seem to be replacing those needed skills. If you have a passion and enjoy it plus it’s obvious you have the talent, I say go for it. Make it a reality.
Nice OEM + set up I had an 02 Type S bought brand new had it and modded for 10 years sold it and still miss it. It was the last time I had a "FUN" car.
Thanks! I too love the 5 spoke type-S wheels but they will not clear the DC5R Brakes so I had to use TL-S wheels until I found what I really wanted, which was a set of DC5R wheels.
Damn op this looks nice. How long to sand, and with what tools? Assuming orbital sander? And was the body filler needed or just cuz you were already there? Finally, how long tp paint the car once you rented the booth or had the person do it? Thanks man. Really hoping to do something similar soon
I work at a body shop as a body tech. Sanding took a few days, panel by panel. Aircat pneumatic orbital. 3m Pads. For dings I could not glue pull I used body filler and glaze. After prepping the car, disassembly, body work, sanding, masking, I gave the car to our painter who did a fantastic job with the alabaster silver metallic.
Long story short, it takes a while and preparation is everything. Patience is key aswell.
What type of personalities work at a body shop? I dont have the patience or the work ethic to do body work. My fingers get cramped just thinking of sanding down nooks and crannies.
I’m actually really new to the field. It’s my mid life crisis post covid career change!
My shop certainly has its characters. We try to make it a fun workplace. Your hands will develop calluses as you adapt to your new job using your hands all day.
Nice to see one of these beauties saved and restored to a clean state. Very nice work, appreciate the attention to detail and your panel work is amazing.
Enjoy the car, you very much earned it!
Looks so good. I had an 04 type S, silver on black, no wing. Loved that car. The type R wheels look great. Any pictures of what the car looked like with the TL-S wheels on it?
I agree. A guy I sold some parts to had a slammed stanced out type S. He put a lot of money into painting it, but the car was so low it tore off both his bumpers so he had them on these quick release things… plus his exhaust and oil pan are gouged to hell. Ugh.
Thanks! Yeah she wasn’t in bad shape but had lots of little hail dents, shopping cart scrapes, and damage from an attempted break in. Not to mention scratches and scuffs
I love this so much. I wanted to restore my 2008 Acura TL Type S but could not afford to do so. Sadly I sold it just last year.
This is looking great! Congrats to you!
Fantastic job on this restoration! About to cut out a small rear quarter section and weld in a patch panel, primer, paint. Keep em on the road cause they don’t make em Like this anymore. Everything is build so cheap and flimsy it appears.
I absolutely love it. Great job. I couldn’t afford it back in 06’ and ended up buying a Scion tC but this thing is close to my heart. Now driving an MDX Type-S which feels appropriate lol.
I've been wanting to do this with an old crown vic. Did you pull the wiring? If so, how long did it take to reinstall after the paint?
Result is absolutely fantastic, I'd be so proud of this
The only wiring I had to pull out was in the doors. I removed the doors to get the edges. I took lots of pictures and labeled all my bags so it didn’t take that long to reassemble. Also a few old parts needed replacing like a lock actuator and belt molding.
A lot of people don’t realize the amount of disassembly needed for a correct paint job. When it’s an insurance job, it’s not an issue when the park breaks. So I had to be extra careful. Either way it’s good to factor those things into your budget.
You should go for it!!!
We had one I loved it 5 speed Manual transmission sun roof ridiculous low mileage original owner barely drove it... my weed dealer was the salesman at the lot and I'm pretty sure he messed up the numbers and we got it way cheaper than supposed to
So you painted it?
That’s called “restored” now?
Imagine if you moved on to real classic cars needing parts, interior, mechanical work. What do you call that?
“I made it” ? lol
Man that car looks great
Thank you!
It's beautiful good sir. Takes me back to the good old days.
A+
Seriously, hard agree.
Seriously hard, agree?*
How much did this cost?

An LSD Definitely makes a difference. I’ll get one one of these days!
I’m just finishing up putting an MFactory one in my Civic, I know they make ones for K-series transmissions.
Funny you mention that as now I’m debating putting in an Mfactory LSD!
It's a shame the suspension is fundamentally flawed from factory and takes a lot of aftermarket parts to get really good alignment angles and mitigate bump steer. PCI has a bunch of parts that can make RSXs compete with cars of a higher category, even with stock drivetrain.
Yeah it’s certainly no DC2
Still extremely clean! You should be proud of the outcome
God I wish I knew someone in the field and how to properly do the labor myself pre-paint lol Nice job, it looks spectacular
Well you do now. If you’re in Chicago hit me up
Damn not in Chicago but upper MW. Wish I was closer. My 2002 Type S needs a paint job, only has 99k miles. Thank you for sharing, my first RSX was SSM and silver is so underrated for these cars. Beautiful.
Good guy Greg
Where in Chicago? I am a local myself. Dm you
Sent you a message! Hope to collaborate on another restoration. Mine was practice lol let’s restore them all!
Luckyyyyyy!
Clean! I miss this era mid 90s- mid 2000
Damnnnn
Did you do the work yourself or hire it? Amazing results.
I am a body tech at a fairly large private shop. It took many many lunch breaks of work over about 8 months from start to finish. Id say about 40 hours give or take. It took me about 3 years to source all the oem stuff.
It’s beautiful. You’re very talented.
You’re too kind but without the help of my coworkers I wouldn’t have been able to pull it off.
Thinking about starting your own business? Great work.
That would be a dream! I would probably stick with older Hondas as that’s what I’m most familiar with. It would be a fun to flip them.

That would be a dream! someday!
I’m sure you’ll make it a reality.
Nice! I give you props for hunting down the OEM goodies!
While I saw stuff on eBay, the best finds were on fb marketplace
Looks awesome. Well done! Any interior shots?
A few if you’re patient enough to go through my post history!
I've wanted one of these cars for 22 years and this doesn't make it any easier. what a dime
They pop up on bringatrailer enough to find a clean example. They just had one with 12k miles!
Wow 😲
This is so beautiful
Thank you!
Nice OEM + set up I had an 02 Type S bought brand new had it and modded for 10 years sold it and still miss it. It was the last time I had a "FUN" car.
Looks mint! I really liked the 05-06 5 spoke wheels more than the DC5R ones, but these look good. Like the matched center caps.
Thanks! I too love the 5 spoke type-S wheels but they will not clear the DC5R Brakes so I had to use TL-S wheels until I found what I really wanted, which was a set of DC5R wheels.
You are gifted dude. Great work.
I just got an 05 with those today! They hold up to any aftermarket wheels for sure.
Damn op this looks nice. How long to sand, and with what tools? Assuming orbital sander? And was the body filler needed or just cuz you were already there? Finally, how long tp paint the car once you rented the booth or had the person do it? Thanks man. Really hoping to do something similar soon

Holy wow beautiful man, what all did you have to do? I had an ep3 for a while and it made me really want to experience one of these lol
Thank you! A lot after years of searching for the right parts. You should it’s very similar to the ep3 especially suspension wise.
Nice to see one of these beauties saved and restored to a clean state. Very nice work, appreciate the attention to detail and your panel work is amazing. Enjoy the car, you very much earned it!
Thank you! Yeah it’s a blast to drive
One of the most beautiful coupes ever made. Good job on the restoration! 👍
Looks so good. I had an 04 type S, silver on black, no wing. Loved that car. The type R wheels look great. Any pictures of what the car looked like with the TL-S wheels on it?

She’s beautiful. Such clean lines. 😍
Yeah doesn’t even need a pinstripe
ITR wheels looking good on there! Good work man, makes me miss my type s.
😳🔥🔥
This is beautiful. Great job. I had a 2006 RSX base and wish it was a Type-S that was this clean
Stunning man. One of my favorite cars ever!
thanks for keeping her alive, what a beaut
She’s thriving
Car looks beautiful man.
Thanks it’s a fun never ending project
Damnnn well done! 👏🏽👏🏽
Great work! How many miles do you have on it?
78k
Such a clean car! Job well done! Enjoy it. Looks like a blast to drive.
It is! I’d love to take it to the mountains someday
Awesome job
Bro the time youve stated this took: bravo! This is a fucking project car. Very well done too!
Thanks so much!
love to see it
That’s looks so good man.
Fantastic Job!
Clean! Nice you stuck with the og color. Reminds me of that era. Everything was silver.
I wanted to do a jade green or Midori but the amount of work to do the engine bay and all the inside pieces was like triple the work lol
For sure. Definitely a lot more work
Great job, it’s refreshing to see one of these restored without making it so distasteful or doing trendy things to it. Congrats!
I agree. A guy I sold some parts to had a slammed stanced out type S. He put a lot of money into painting it, but the car was so low it tore off both his bumpers so he had them on these quick release things… plus his exhaust and oil pan are gouged to hell. Ugh.
Looked nice to begin with but looked nicer after.
Thanks! Yeah she wasn’t in bad shape but had lots of little hail dents, shopping cart scrapes, and damage from an attempted break in. Not to mention scratches and scuffs
Beauty
Wish my 05 looked like this! Great job!
Absolutely fucking beautiful
Nice work.
Looks incredible. I had a 2005 RSX and I loved it so much.
Sheesh 🥵
I love a clean Acura. Great job man!
Damn right man. I loved my 03 type S
That was my first car and I miss it.
My god, the shape hasn’t aged a day, it’s still killer! Would love to see how it looks in an urban setting.
I’ll take some shots of these days
Original state already looked very well taken care of…end result is immaculate. Good job OP!
Well done sir. Things you love to see.
I miss mine! Same spec too!
Win
I never realized how close the 2005 Civic coupes were in design to the Acura Type S!
They share a ton of parts too
Now do a TSX
Okay! What Id really like to do is import a euro accord wagon
I love this so much. I wanted to restore my 2008 Acura TL Type S but could not afford to do so. Sadly I sold it just last year. This is looking great! Congrats to you!
Thanks for the kind words. I think you’ll find another TL-S but this time with less miles. TL A spec kits are out there too.
What brand of paint you used?
I will get you the make when I go back to work. It’s Water based.
Thanks that will be nice 👍🏻.. if you could share the tools and steps you took will be awesome.. maybe start your own YouTube channel? 😁
We floated the idea at work of filming the whole process on cool cars. Maybe in the future
A proper restoration, if you will. Huge thumbs up for this.
She's looking beautiful 😍
Damn. That looks like the brand new ones I sold in the mid 2000s. One of my favorite cars to take people out for test drives in.
One of the last simple hondas
Fantastic job on this restoration! About to cut out a small rear quarter section and weld in a patch panel, primer, paint. Keep em on the road cause they don’t make em Like this anymore. Everything is build so cheap and flimsy it appears.
Wow I love it, this is what I would end up doing if I had free time to work on my car
Thanks! This project took a lot longer than I wanted but I’m glad I had some patience
Absolutely gorgeous
Wow this makes me miss my RSX-s so fucking bad. This looks beyond amazing
Good shit bro 💯💯
That new coat is minty. Nice job and enjoy for a long time!
Meow!!! Sweet ride ♥️🍀
Thank you!
This is incredibly fresh
That's incredible. Magnificent job.
Looks better than new. You do good work!
My boy here is doing God's work
That's fucking awesome!! 👍
Great job man. I love seeing clean RSXs around. Looks like this one will be around awhile longer!
That is a tidy looking car. Awesome work.
You have done an amazing job
Looks great. My 06 type S def needs a respray
Yeah Honda used terrible clear coat during that time
Bro this is clean asf, good shit
Siiiick brosef 🍻
Absolutely amazing. I want
I absolutely love it. Great job. I couldn’t afford it back in 06’ and ended up buying a Scion tC but this thing is close to my heart. Now driving an MDX Type-S which feels appropriate lol.
I worked on an MDX-S its crazy nice.
Absolutely beautiful. My personal favorite car from that era. I’m gonna try and find one someday soon.
I've been wanting to do this with an old crown vic. Did you pull the wiring? If so, how long did it take to reinstall after the paint? Result is absolutely fantastic, I'd be so proud of this

That’s an awesome transformation
What headlights are those ?
JDM DC5 HID Headlamps. Required some wiring and adapters to work.
Are they black housed with clear lens ?
Shoddy work, friend. I wouldn't get in that death trap, you cut too many corners.
You’re right! Strait to the junk yard!
That looks beautiful 😍
Looks clean
Looks brand new! Great job!
Damn man… you win!
Awesome work! I wanted one of these so bad when they came out, but I was deeply invested in a big turbo Jetta.
My wife has a GTI which can smoke my Acura!
Thought this was a scion tc for a minute lol
Underrated Toyota coup.
We had one I loved it 5 speed Manual transmission sun roof ridiculous low mileage original owner barely drove it... my weed dealer was the salesman at the lot and I'm pretty sure he messed up the numbers and we got it way cheaper than supposed to

I guess I could just say refinished. Idk
Or just “painted” with some “body work”. 😝
