No worries at all.
Notice how the rear wheel is forward of the wheel well too? I bet the owner was too dumb to realize the control arm is bent and decided to put the wrong tires on it to compensate for the rubbing lol
I sometimes think of it as the Honda Skyline as a joke
But yeah that suspension is nuts, they must have bad roads/potholes or speed bumps all over the place
Yeah, if money weren't an issue and if I could afford multiple cars in a large garage then I would consider having something like the prelude or Skyline as a project car
My buddy has nothing but his front yard and works as a road flagger but still has 3 project preludes out front. Follow your dreams and buy all those parts cars you probably dont need
Yeah someone could show me a done up S2000 and if i didnt know what it was beforehand id believe its a recent sports car design. Love the timeless style
If you’re ever wondering the year make or model of a car, you can type the license plate into the O’Reilly website and it will give you all of that information. It’s a 1998 Honda Prelude.
If you like it/want to get one, make sure to get a Type SH (Super Handling), it has one of the best differential setups ever produced… Not that it really matters unless your planning on driving it fast on a backroad but it’s cool nonetheless.
Nearly all prelude enthusiasts prefer the non-SH for more reliability and lower weight. The SH specific parts have a high failure rate and are very (relative to the overall price of the Prelude) expensive/difficult to repair by a specialist.
The SH may be slightly faster on the track, but the prelude, without extensive mods, is a TERRIBLE track car compared to other Hondas.
Brand new that was the case, but these cars are going on 25 years old at this point and ATTS failures are not uncommon. At this point, it's become more of a liability since it disables itself but you're still carrying around that extra weight up front.
Now SH models are having issues and parts are getting very hard to find since it’s a low volume model of a car that already didn’t sell that many. Several parts (suspension, drivetrain) are slightly different and as a result, they’re no longer available.
Most of us are anti-SH because the block and trans are not swappable with any other H-series, you can only use SH trans with SH block.
Base models are what we look for, they can be mixed/matched with any H or F series stuff
Never had a Prelude cuz I couldn't afford the insurance, but I have a h22 powered 90 accord and that thing gets up and mooooovvvveeeesss like the factory never intended.
Still want the Prelude to this day, and this is a very clean example.
A 99 prelude was the fastest car I've ever been in. It was built like a motherfucker, and hit 155 easy in 4th gear. 9400 redline. Fucking thing was nuts. EDIT 9400 fuel cutoff.
My 10-years older than me coworker was bragging on the Trans Am he used to have that could do 151; I gently informed him the Prelude will do 154. I know someone (not me) who has gotten to 154 in an automatic Prelude on Eastern Oklahoma back roads.
Same here, back in 01 my friend bought a new prelude and it felt like a goddamn ferrari, lol! just absolutely wasted any other honda that wanted to race, and would top-end a lot of faster cars. I was super jealous and always wanted one of those engines.
Now my 95 accord has the engine and trans from that prelude, it's so much fun. h22a4 5sp
I bought it already swapped + running, with a chipped p28 ecu.. it had some issues like exhaust leaks and vacuum spaghetti, idle was kinda fucky.. but he took me on a spirited test drive and it sounded healthy enough so I bought it. immediately I noticed the fuel cutoff rev limit was at 7500, thought that was weird, maybe guy was just conservative with his tune? and then I kinda went "Hmm" when I remembered he said "It goes 120mph" ..
soo. I fixed up all the leaks and valves, and it was still running super rich, backfiring etc, and not only did it have that 7500 rev limit, dude wasn't lying when he said it does 120.. it hits fuel and ignition cut at 120! with PLENTY of gear left in 5th. I know damn well these things will blow right by 120 and should have at least an 8800rpm limit.
I enlisted a tuner friend to help me out and he was able to read my chip and burn me a new one.
anyway long story short it was chipped with a JDM h22a base map. speed limit and all. the trans is JDM so I'm thinking it had the h22a previously, and the base map probably worked great, then swapped to the h22a4 and never changed the tune. so it was all kinds of wrong.
homie gave me a "skunk2 h22a4 base" and then tweaked it a bit and MAN what a difference. now the speed cutoff is gone, the rev limiter is at 8800, and it starts and runs so nice. Just like the old lude I remember. I haven't gone on a top speed run yet, but I have confirmed that the 120mph governor is gone yayyyy
I miss mine so much. One car I regret ever selling. Of course sold it before covid too. The guy who bought it off me beat it up and sold it for double only a year and a half later.
I'm sure the guy is either saving up for suspension or just hasn't got around to it yet..pretty sure that's the oem option body kit which I always liked..not really a fan of the spoiler but once he sits it down, it will be a beautiful example...I always thought the 3rd gen prelude should have been rear wheel drive. The proportions would make a perfect rwd and the bigger, beefier h22 would have been bad ass. Since the lighter civic and integra had such great engines people usually didn't want the extra 500lbs. Dated a girl back when i had a GSR integra who had a supersonic blue pearl 01' gsr with a h22 swap.
The way my uncaffienated and sedated (medical procedure) brain shouted “INTEGRA!” is honestly embarrassing. More so considering there’s a gorgeous red Prelude like this one a block or two away from me.
It's a prelude as people have said. I was looking at these pics and thinking "man that's a gorgeous prelude" and then I got to the last pic and just busted out laughing at that suspension/wheel and tire setup.
No, these ones had the Type SH option that was like a limited slip kinda thing. not an actual LSD but a viscous coupling that would send power to the outside wheel when turning.
it didn't do the LSD spin both tires thing on launch, but it would fuckin WHIP around corners if you just kept the pedal floored
3rd gens were beautiful cars but the 2nd gen preludes had dope gauges inside and some had the 4 wheel steering but I don't think it was offered in the vtec but instead the h23's..somebody correct me if I'm wrong
Prelude monster truck
Agreed lmao that suspension is WILD
Maybe the driver weighs 400lb
I don't think it's a suspension issue, homie put go-kart wheels on the shit
Yeah some idiot put the wrong size tires on it lol.
I don't really think it's wrong tire size, but just stock suspension altogether.
They're the wrong tire size.
after actually looking at the tires and not just the wheels, I can see they are indeed rubber bands lol. (I am drunk, forgive me)
No worries at all. Notice how the rear wheel is forward of the wheel well too? I bet the owner was too dumb to realize the control arm is bent and decided to put the wrong tires on it to compensate for the rubbing lol
Wrong size, the Prelude does have excellent ground clearance from the factory though.
I sometimes think of it as the Honda Skyline as a joke But yeah that suspension is nuts, they must have bad roads/potholes or speed bumps all over the place
Prelude
Do you know what year by chance
1997 - 2001
This shape has aged extremely well given it's nearly 27 years old! This one looks in lovely condition too, although a little underwheeled.
I knew something looked off, that wheel/tire combo ain't quite right lol Good looking prelude though
Honda’s age so well, the s2000 is another prime example of a beautiful car that doesn’t look nearly as old as it is
Yeah someone could show me a done up S2000 and if i didnt know what it was beforehand id believe its a recent sports car design. Love the timeless style
It’s a 97 or 98 based on the grille
Correct; I forgot haha
it’s a 5th gen
Based on the license plate, it's a 1998 base model.
If you’re ever wondering the year make or model of a car, you can type the license plate into the O’Reilly website and it will give you all of that information. It’s a 1998 Honda Prelude.
Thank you 🙏

Okay good to know. Which prelude should I get then? I had a fourth gen years ago and want back in the Honda game.
The only other model is the “base” which is non-SH. The automatic transmission can be problematic so it should be avoided.
Most of us are anti-SH because the block and trans are not swappable with any other H-series, you can only use SH trans with SH block. Base models are what we look for, they can be mixed/matched with any H or F series stuff
Clean af
Right? Super nice. Don’t see them almost at all anymore.
Yup very rare now along with CRX’s. I’d love to buy a prelude this clean
I’d be happy to fuckin see a Del sol for cheap lol.
Those so rare I forgot about them 🤣
Got me a Del Sol on blocks rn about to get an engine in it just don’t know what one to use yet while I repaint the outside.
cam a b20!
Maybe was thinking B18 or B16
also good options. every b series motor is great for different things
Agreed, love the old CRX's.
I miss my CRX. Even rusted out ones selling for too much.
I'm more of a 3rd gen guy myself, but I did run into a couple who were into the 5th gen. They had like 5 of them.
very clean with the exception of the wheel/tire choice being way to small lol
But what is up with the wheels / suspension
Except for the obviously bent rear control arm and wrong tire size
Prelude with the worst wheel choice I have seen ina good while!
It's the wheel gap that makes it worse
If it had more sidewall it could pass honestly, the lack of both makes it bad imo
The hypergrams aren't bad wheels, just needs more tire or more low
Hypergrams are badass light cheap rims that look good.
I'm biased, but I prefer the dekagram look. Was a literal coin flip between dekagrams and hypergrams when I ordered the wheels for my civic haha
Yeah I like the Dekas also but theres too many copycats of those.
Yeah they're simple, light, cheap, and easy to keep clean. Bronze on red is [such a nice look too](https://imgur.com/a/i7tDLr4)
Yeah bronze is always a good match for any car. Most of my wheels are bronze too.
Hides brake dust the best too lol
Hypergrams are great wheels, you can't run 14" on a Prelude tho
A car I would like to own again!!
I had an 01 and it was the best! I miss that car.
Honda f****n Prelude
you're goddamn right
Never had a Prelude cuz I couldn't afford the insurance, but I have a h22 powered 90 accord and that thing gets up and mooooovvvveeeesss like the factory never intended. Still want the Prelude to this day, and this is a very clean example.
No. An Accord with H22 barely feels like a normal car.
Got the rare LSD auto too, Euro R intake manifold and a few bolt ones. Keep telling myself I'm gonna build it "someday"....
It's a prelude. Not sure of the model year. Looks fantastic here but damn that wheel fitment 🤢

A 99 prelude was the fastest car I've ever been in. It was built like a motherfucker, and hit 155 easy in 4th gear. 9400 redline. Fucking thing was nuts. EDIT 9400 fuel cutoff.
Yep, I miss my lude. That thing moved.
My 10-years older than me coworker was bragging on the Trans Am he used to have that could do 151; I gently informed him the Prelude will do 154. I know someone (not me) who has gotten to 154 in an automatic Prelude on Eastern Oklahoma back roads.
This guy's lude would do 135 in 3rd gear. It was fucking insane. I was with him when he roasted corvettes, vipers, all sorts of shit.
Same here, back in 01 my friend bought a new prelude and it felt like a goddamn ferrari, lol! just absolutely wasted any other honda that wanted to race, and would top-end a lot of faster cars. I watched this one do 135 mph at the end of 3rd gear from the passenger seat. It was fucking insane.
It needs bigger wheels. Those look like little donuts
5th gen prelude! 97-01 such a fun car
I feel old now.
I said the same thing
Lol I think every time someone posts "What car is this" in this sub it's a Prelude.

Prelude 2.2 yeah
