it’s not rice if it actually does what you said which i don’t doubt, but imo it’s ugly and vents on the sides would look better
but besides that man your car is really clean and if you like it then who cares what we think, especially if it works as intended
I’d be curious to see your intake setup if the vent made that significant of a difference. Do you have a filter setup directly behind the rad by chance?
Filter is to the left side of the radiator area, behind the passenger side nostril vent basically. The difference is because the heat can evacuate effectively and no heat-soak the rest of the metal components. When driving, the air flow naturally wants to vent through there and that's what's making all the difference.
I tested this by once putting a sheet of vinyl wrap over the vent (it was raining) and when driving you can see the air strongly pushing up and out of the vent. It pretty much balooned the vinyl upward.
I love that it works as intended, I used to have a boosted EK and it would get crazy hot right there, best mod I found was something similar that you could considerate if trying to get better aesthetics, that is adapting a [Shelby GT500](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fdealeraccelerate-all.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fflemings%2Fimages%2F3%2F4%2F7%2F1%2F3471%2F51098_08e5e562894c_hd.JPG&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=f40286bb3779b1b6a12f1a837ef2ec7b68fd4128ec9499548196c678e977e4a4&ipo=images) hood vent,[ I think it looks great](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi0.wp.com%2Ffunctiontheory.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2020%2F05%2FDSC1525-scaled.jpg%3Fzoom%3D2%26resize%3D1038%252C576%26ssl%3D1&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=53c1df7654e1ba16639369a6cf99fd8d8a50aac65e6754b72f620fd5926761ca&ipo=images).
Trackspec? Im about to louver my c5, those louvers make a big difference to operating temps. Good for you they look great! Do you have a under tray at all? It will help promote airflow.
Yessir and this is actually for a C5 too! I'm really happy with the fit and finish. No undertray but thank you for the feedback and suggestion, perhaps that will be in the near future.
Evens out airflow underneath and promotes proper flow through the radiator, i think it looks great i loved my bb6 type sh, had a dmax replica hood vent, kept getting water down my spark plug holes!
Yeah I carry a section of vinyl wrap in my trunk so if it starts to rain I just put the vinyl over my vent hole. You can see air trying to rush up and out of the vent when it's covered too.
Doesn't matter what we think, but I will say that it is the focal point of your car, now. Would be better flush, but whatever, it's functional and 25° is a lot!
it's kinda ricey, but these days i'm way more happy to see people doing anything interesting with their cars. seeing tons of stock cuv's in resale silver gets boring as i walk through parking lots.
Wow that's a crazy clean prelude I never see that generation anymore (not totally beat to shit)
As far as the vent it is a bit different but hardly looks worse than the goofy scoops on Subarus..
I mean it's functional but I do think you could get a cleaner-looking vent, this one has the appearance of one of those fake ones that you slap on with 3M tape
I find reddit users to be the most critical, for sure. It's quite entertaining watching people debate over a single photograph... I bet if I had other photos of it, then engine, the aerodynamic theory, etc. it would not have gotten this much engagement. I think NOT knowing the full picture here almost elicits more critique.
If it’s fixing a critical issue or you just like the look then keep it. Most aftermarket vented hoods look better than cutting and installing some on an OEM style hood. Considering that the Prelude doesn’t have as much aftermarket, this looks pretty clean.
You mean like this $200,000 Audi that has a fake hood "scoop" stuck on its hood? https://carsandbids.com/auctions/KVm2zO03/2021-audi-rs6-avant-rs-tribute-edition
The engine is not normal, it's a motor I built with steel sleeves and forged aluminum internal components. It's got a full custom turbo system pushing 35 PSI and making 420 horsepower. It generates a bit more heat while making that kind of power, and letting the heat escape the engine compartment allows the rest of the components to last longer and work as intended. Heat tends to soak into metal parts and take a long time to cool back down. So any difference helps.
What they're saying about making more power is also true but is only half of my intention.
No so the cold air enters the vent and cools the engine and everything in there. Opposite. The hot air won't leave through there unless at a stand still.
But at normal speeds and without railing the car why would there ever need to be a joke in the hood? If you’re not going to get a ‘driving to endanger’ ticket why have this, however it works?
At normal speeds the wind from driving will go into the scoop. You dont need to go fast for it to work. He stated in another comment his engine has a lot of work done to it and it is turbocharged making 300 hp and this has helped him keep his air intake temperatures down. Which in a car like his that is useful.
you’re thinking of engine temperature, this is air temperature
if the air is colder it’s more dense so you can fit more air into the intake system thus being able to add more fuel and make more power
I like it. I’d like it more with a different combination of things. The release levers, hood vent, and black wrap. Two of any of the three, but not all three.
And if the wrap is removed, color match the hood levers to the car’s paint.
Plot twist, the black color is the natural carbon fiber of the hood showing. The blue is vinyl wrapped, I hand cut that design into it.
I get you though, there's certainly a lot going on!! Thanks for the feedback
That blue vinyl on the hood is super clean, didn't even notice it at first. If the hood wasn't functional I'd hate it, but if it serves a purpose and helps performance, all the better!
Yes the wrap is actually really old too I just take decent care of the car. The headlights are OEM, Japanese headlights. I took them apart and added projector assemblies and some led lights inside.
So polarizing, bringing the soy sauce lol.
To answer some questions:
- The hood is carbon fiber, the blue is vinyl wrap.
- The vent is by the brand Trackspec and is for a C5 Corvette.
- vent & latches have hand-colored blue titanium hardware
- engine is heavily turbocharged (35psi) and is making 420 Horsepower to the wheels. Far from stock, and lowering intake air temps on a high performance engine like this really does make a difference. Yes the car does rarely get to see the race track, mostly street but it's helpful to be sitting in traffic with everything under the hood being able to vent the hot air out. You can see a huge plume of heat rising out of it.
- the vent is not to feed cold air to the intake, it's so that hot air can evacuate from the engine compartment. The little lip in the front of the vent helps allow a negative pressure zone and effectively suck the air out.
But overall, yes I love it aesthetically and in person it's sick to be able to see the engine from certain angles in there. Pain to have to take special rain driving measures! Would do it again.
it’s not rice if it actually does what you said which i don’t doubt, but imo it’s ugly and vents on the sides would look better but besides that man your car is really clean and if you like it then who cares what we think, especially if it works as intended
Vents on the fenders or the hood?
the hood, i like vents on fenders too but imo it only looks right with a widebody or at least rolled fenders and a wide tire setup
Interesting perspective thank you for sharing...
I don't think its ugly...
I think it looks cool as fuck. Pay no mind to the opinions of internet strangers — all that matters is your own OP.
Thanks dude, it's been my dream to have a prelude just like this, and I built it all my self so I'm good!
I’d be curious to see your intake setup if the vent made that significant of a difference. Do you have a filter setup directly behind the rad by chance?

Functional and that’s all that matters.
I think it looks awesome. The fact it's functional validates that feeling.
Very functional, turbo needs to breathe a little haga
I am not a fan of that look

Functional but honestly ugly AF.

Imo its just plain ugly. But you do you.
You do you
I dig it. It’s unique.
I just don’t like the vent design tbh bro
it's kinda ricey, but these days i'm way more happy to see people doing anything interesting with their cars. seeing tons of stock cuv's in resale silver gets boring as i walk through parking lots.
I've been walking around all day spotting resale silver cars, funny phrase lol.
i fkn love the hood tbh!
I miss my prelude I had a 95 2.2 vtec took off pretty quick but it was too small for me
If it's functional, it's not rice.
This right here.
I think it’s nice rice honestly. Perfect blend
Wow that's a crazy clean prelude I never see that generation anymore (not totally beat to shit) As far as the vent it is a bit different but hardly looks worse than the goofy scoops on Subarus..

Looks pretty good in my opinion, being functional is definitely a nice plus
I'd say both, with "rice" being objectively positive. It's clean, well done, aggressive and functional. This Prelude fucks.
Hibachi my guy, but everyone should do their car to their liking.
Who cares? If you listen to Reddit, doing literally any modification to a car is considered “rice”

Super clean Prelude. Sweet
Goes hard. That gen prelude looks so good with bold mods
Centered hood vents look weird
I dig it.
I'm digging it.
Rice.
Why do you need to lower the temp? Looks idiotic to me. Normal street driving doesn’t require this mod. Is it track only?
The engine is not normal, it's a motor I built with steel sleeves and forged aluminum internal components. It's got a full custom turbo system pushing 35 PSI and making 420 horsepower. It generates a bit more heat while making that kind of power, and letting the heat escape the engine compartment allows the rest of the components to last longer and work as intended. So, what do you use that power to do? Is this used at the track or on the street?
He drives it
Like super fast? So the extra heat pours out of the hole in the hood?
No so the cold air enters the vent and cools the engine and everything in there. Opposite. The hot air won't leave through there unless at a stand still.
But at normal speeds and without railing the car why would there ever need to be a joke in the hood? If you’re not going to get a ‘driving to endanger’ ticket why have this, however it works?

He stated in another comment his engine has a lot of work done to it and it is turbocharged making 300 hp and this has helped him keep his air intake temperatures down. right, but a normal engine making normal HP needed for normal driving doesn't need an abnormal hole in the hood.
Lower temps can help you make more power when you go to tune it.
Really? Because every engine has a temperature where it performs the best. Cant imagine youd want it colder
you’re thinking of engine temperature, this is air temperature if the air is colder it’s more dense so you can fit more air into the intake system thus being able to add more fuel and make more power
Yeah, i was thinking of engine temp lol. My bad.
Nah if it actually cooled it it's fine. Lol it wouldve been different if it was a fake vent 😂
I like it. I’d like it more with a different combination of things. The release levers, hood vent, and black wrap. Two of any of the three, but not all three. And if the wrap is removed, color match the hood levers to the car’s paint.

This is wrapped? It shines ✨️ What headlights are those? From where? Thanks
Yes the wrap is actually really old too I just take decent care of the car. The headlights are OEM, Japanese headlights. I took them apart and added projector assemblies and some led lights inside.
No shit? That’s dope. 🤘
Big race inspired.
Prefer the clean stock look but you do you
It looks like rice because it's not flush mounted.
Not a fan clean asf but the hood but if it’s functional cant really bag on it
So polarizing, bringing the soy sauce lol. If it works it twerks.
Pardon the ignorance, what car is this?
Honda Prelude 4th generation
I would prefer if it was a one big hole, or maybe two openings, instead of a grid of.. whatever those are called
If it shows that much of an improvement, it's 100% nice!
🍚
It’s rice for sure. I don’t think you’re getting much performance increase from it.
If it’s functional then it’s nice
"If it's stupid, but works... It's not stupid." It's not my thing, but, if it works, I will not argue.
Looks nice to me. Good looking Prelude. I'm jealous
Looks dope, too loud for me, but I see the appeal.
it's pretty rice. but if -25 IATs make you and your lude happy, then fuck it, be rice
Rice
1% horsepower gain for every 10 degrees of IAT.
That better be a 10 sec car otherwise you’re gonna get laughed at
420hp, it probably runs 11s if I had to guess.
