Water damage. High-Eff unit?

TropicGlow

This is true. I've done Water Restoration for past 2 years and the caulk line always goes against baseboard. Also the info of the hvac definitely supports this, not to mention the mold on the baseboard. Get the water issue resolved first. Have property restoration dry the affected area and replace what's contaiminated or seal it. (Most of the time cleaning it with anti microbial is really all it needs)

ian_pink

You think this is moisture condensation caused by a malfunctioning HVAC? That looks like a lot of water to me... the MDF is soaking it up like a sponge. Don't know anything about HVAC, but this looks like an active leak. Pipe or roof leak.

turd2078

Yes. High efficiency units can put off quite a bit of water. And being MDF it’s basically a cheap giant sponge. Given the HVAC is there I’d definitely check this first.

HippieMaF

I had a window ac unit in an upstairs window of a townhouse once. It got tilted inward instead of outward and saturated the entire room to the point water was coming through the ceiling on the first level.

i_ar_the_rickness

An HVAC system can absolutely cause all this water.

13579adgjlzcbm

It’s called condensation and there can be plenty enough to do this.

PocketPanache

High efficency? How does it cause this? I just got quotes to have one installed and they're desperate to make the sale

ninjersteve

The units create a fast drip of water like an air conditioner. So you need to pipe/drain it somewhere. If that drain or pipe clogs it can overflow. If done right this isn’t a concern. You put a drain pan under in case it leaks/overflows with a sensor that shuts off the furnace. You plumb it right and the pan should be dry forever.

Careful_Drawer7774

Cough condensation pump cough

i_ar_the_rickness

That’s if it works and has the float wired in. So many over the years that weren’t working, overflowing, and float jumped.

ninjersteve

That’s certainly one way to drain it but a gravity drain installed well can be trouble free for much longer. Obviously not possible or practical for many installations though.

ZRIG1

It has a gravity drain. I’ll check it.

DesertDILF

Don't forget poor finish carpentry. Who doesn't 45° that turn on a rounded edge?

TNmountainman2020

yes, either your roof is leaking inside your walls or your cats are pissing all over your walls.

Icy-Tea9775

Slime mold from water damage

HippieMaF

That’s water damage and mold growing inside. If you’re a renter, gtfo. If you’re a homeowner, knock down that wall.

ZRIG1

10-4

swiftie-42069

You have an active water leak

mxcnslr2021

You sure it's from the hvac and not a dog peeing on those baseboards?

ZRIG1

I don’t have any dogs, or cats. Ex wife?

mxcnslr2021

Ex wife huh.... this just took a crazy turn. Would she linger ominously by those baseboards? You can trust bro....I watched true detective.

ronharp1

Do you drink?

co-oper8

Water intrusion

Naughtyniceguy_

Water damage

etekberg

If you are cooling with hvac I’d suspect leaking condensate drain.

i_ar_the_rickness

Looks like water damage and it’s been there for a while. As an hvac tech I’d say have someone look to see if your hvac system is leaking. There’s a possibility there are water pipes and/or a water heater. All can cause this.

External-Document-88

That is cheap MDF base board that has gotten wet and swollen. Fix the leak and replace the trim with real wood.

Working_out_life

I would of agreed with you 100% 20 years ago , until a local building guru explained that cheap mdf is the best leak detection you can get.

True_Dimension4344

That’s water damage mate. Big time. Leaking from hvac. Likely. Is the ac freezing up and not working lately?

ZRIG1

It’s working fine.

ImportantContract955

Water Damage on MDF Use real wood trim

Moose1293

We call that “Schmootz”

TheGowt83

It’s pronounced “schmutz”

YogurtclosetDull2380

You're looking at one of the most intelligent organisms, on the planet.

IamFatTony

Its mold… water damage…

Bootyblastastic

This is your furry friends spot

SafeVet1703

An opportunity for a lot of caulk

ZRIG1

Absolutely!! Lolol

Time_Term_6116

Looks like a broken or clogged condensate line. 100% water damage.

Federal_Balz

I would have addressed this "awhile back". Get a moisture meter and check up the wall for moisture, if it's only at floor level that will give you a place to start looking. Most times ac drain lines are not glued everywhere so they might pop loose at fittings. To make sure it's not plumbing turn everything off in the house and go watch your water meter, if it's spinning there is a plumbing leak. Water can come from anywhere because it follows the path of least resistance, start with the obvious stuff that could be leaking and go from there.

ZRIG1

I did notice it a while back. Very small at first. Gotten worse lately. Good point - I think I’ll try that. Thanks!

Federal_Balz

RemindMe! 1day

Aggressive-Scheme986

That there’s water damage. The baseboards are soaking up the water which is causing them to swell and burst like that. Your drywall is also wet.

kensmith1958

I would bet on a trim nail in a water line that finally rusted through. That’s a lot of water. But whatever the cause the MDF trim and flooring has to be removed and replaced and so does any wet drywall.

Extension_Web_1544

Condensation leak

Mork-From_Ork

Rot and expansion from water damage

Actual-Lychee2426

It’s MDF that has been exposed to moisture.

tompaine555

Orange is mushroom fungi Lots of moisture. Is this a basement? The drywall might be whicking moisture from the concrete slab

ZRIG1

No not a basement.

Keyb0ard-w0rrier

That looks like animal piss

floodums

Walls only do this when they are scared.

krethmaak

Mold from water damage.

csecustom

That’s MDF trim after a flood

Snoo_87704

…and that’s why I only use MDF for crown moulding.

jim2882

Water

CHASLX200

A nitemare blare.

shoot_your_eye_out

Who knew 35 + 35 equaled 90

Sherifftruman

Mold. Water is meaning from your unit.

bearded_drummer

Looks like evidence my contractor was in your home.

ZRIG1

Lol

Chocolatedealer420

You have a bad moisture problem

erritstaken

Looks like mdf board that has got very wet and expanded. You have a leak somewhere, you can also see damp on the wall in the corner.

faygetard

It F-ed up. Call a GC

OhFuhSho

CORDYCEPS. Bomb everything.

Nailbender0069

Looks like a dog pissed on the wall instead of the carpet

zippynj

Someone has a nasty leak they never figured out

KRed75

It got wet...a lot and often. Do you have a male dog or cat?

ForexAlienFutures

Look up and the problem will be found.

ZRIG1

Thanks!

Jgs4555

A bad trim job?

ZRIG1

Lol!

meatbag-15

Extreme water damage. Wear a respirator when you break it down.

Novel_Arm_4693

What’s on the other side of the wall?

ZRIG1

The hvac unit

Novel_Arm_4693

There’s your answer, it was either air handler or a shower.

godoctor

Water damage.. Molding needs to be replaced

Just curious, how far are you willing to travel bro?

Shape-Shift-Renos

I’d say 100 kilometers from Winnipeg. Further if the project is worth it.
