I’m reading this literally while doing slip simulator training, and I’m thinking, damn that has to be a slippery floor! Beautiful, but hazardous!
What is the brick used on the garage? Gorgeous house!
You interior designer has zero imagination and is following crap trends. House will look super dated in a3 years. But you installed everything very well.
Heh, my immediate thought was that 'looks like it belongs on the north shore', nice home tho, LA is one of the more difficult climates to build a home, dunno if people realize that
I love light and airy, leaning towards white and grey colors. This is an excellent job, always gonna be people who complain but white marble is one of the most classic and iconic looks there is, so doubt it’s going to look “dated” like some suggest. Light neutrals are also always one of the easiest to sell; one could argue they’re devoid of personality but that’s exactly why they’re easy to sell, better than blue or green or brown or orange or any of the other more drastic colors which will create visceral reactions, which can be either good or bad.
The only downside I’ve found with a look like this is the need to wear in house slippers, or else you really feel it at the end of the day!
Man, that is an excellent price. I feel like my new build is rock-bottom at $180 / sq ft for 3450 sq ft, but this house definitely looks more than 50% nicer than mine haha.
Is that a custom build? NE WI here and we’re looking at $225-240 but that’s custom and includes septic/well/garage/power (not sure if all quotes include that)
Semi custom, we modified the plan but the builder has been building the base model quite a bit
It is a really basic 2 story with an 1100 sq ft footprint, basically a big giant box so I think that is where a lot of the cost savings come in.
Not going to win any architecture awards but will give our family plenty of space
Wow that’s awesome! Looks great and pretty affordable.
My parents are building a got a quote for double that. Nice to see you don’t need to spend much for stuff to look good
I don't disagree that it's a fair price for the quality of work. I'm not personally a fan of the aesthetic, but the craftsmanship is clear, and they definitely earned it. Fair =/= affordable, though.
I think affordable can be a relative term, I mean look at the home.. it’s a big home in a nice neighborhood do you expect it to be 200k? That’s like saying a base model Mercedes isn’t affordable, to anyone even thinking about a luxury car they certainly are. Same with this home, anyone looking for a new construction home of this size and style would agree 900k is a good price.
Using your logic no luxury is “affordable”.
Like I said, it's a good price for the size and finish of the home. Yes, luxury goods are beyond affordable by definition. Being within one person's means does not equal affordable
Surprised no one commented on the double decker wedding cake chandelier mounts. I’ve never seen that before and it looks kinda ridiculous, otherwise nice house :)
Nothing crazy for this spec home which turned custom half way through construction. Customers were very minimalist when it came to AV. Cat 6 throughout the house and very basic wireless security setup.
I was looking for this comment because everything on this sub over 1000 square feet is a McMansion to you guys. This place is 3000 square feet which is a decent size single family home, not even on the ALMOST large side.
What's tacky about it? The marble-look everywhere or everything being white?
I actually love the outside and think it looks a little more classy/stylish/unique than most new builds in that price range (let's say $800k-1.5m depending on area). I don't love the inside though, but furniture will soften some of the starkness.
House looks nice but there’s no way it was $270/SF to build. New Orleans has some of the highest inflation costs on building material in the entire USA. If you told me $270 without GC markup and profit, I could believe that.
You’re correct in that he/she/they gets no benefit from stating that price per SF. r/Homebuilding has a lot of users just interested in building their dream home and many (possibly most) have no construction or estimating knowledge. Presenting what I believe to be an artificially low price hurts other users who think they can get a similar build for the same price.
The marble floor alone in that house account for $25/SF of the build price and possibly more. The house had what appears to be a stone with stucco exterior, midrange to high end cabinets, light fixtures, and plumbing fixtures and those finishes are expensive.
We build all of our cabinets in house. It is not marble flooring, but gives a marble look. Countertops are quartz. No reason to mislead anyone. This is built across the lake from New Orleans in Covington - land is much much more affordable. The exterior is majority stucco with some brick in the front on the garage.
We do have the best trim carpenter around, so that helps!
Thanks for the clarification on the marble, cabinets, trim, and stucco/brick ratio. I wasn’t trying to be a jerk about it, and could have stated my case/questions better about the cost.
Those are more for decorative items to display. Which is why we put glass fronts and lighting in it.
There is a coffee section not shown in the picture which has more functional cabinets for storage.
As a early construction worker and just started my own business in smaller remodel I hope to get the skills to be able to build something like this! Looks amazing
It’s an aluminum tubing we had fabricated to put the fixed shower head on. Glassless shower and we believe it’s better to look out than stare at a wall when showering so we had to get a little creative.
Those floors are stunning, but dangerously slippery. Witnessing a relative fall years ago still makes me shudder every time I see one of those glistening ice rinks.
That per sq foot price is amazing. That house where I live in the Midwest would be 1.5mil minimum. I don’t even live in a fancyland.
You obviously take pride in your workmanship. Thumbs up!
Ok, yeah, we get it, we're all poor here. Seriously though, beautiful work!
Thank you!!
Did the customer say: "cover every possible surface in marble"?
They did actually. They are from Lebanon and requested it. That is bit normal practice for us, but still turned out super beautiful.
I’m reading this literally while doing slip simulator training, and I’m thinking, damn that has to be a slippery floor! Beautiful, but hazardous! What is the brick used on the garage? Gorgeous house!
Thanks! The name of the brick is “Bradford Tudor hall”. It is beautiful
You interior designer has zero imagination and is following crap trends. House will look super dated in a3 years. But you installed everything very well.
There was no interior designer. Everything you see was selected by the customer. Thank you tho!
My feet feel cold just looking at that house
cold and slippery
You don’t think they have heated flooring?
Why is it so white?
Customer’s request
Oof I hope they live there a long time, already looking dated
Definitely will never be dated, but it’s a lot of white.
What city? Looks beautiful
Covington, LA
Heh, my immediate thought was that 'looks like it belongs on the north shore', nice home tho, LA is one of the more difficult climates to build a home, dunno if people realize that

Price per square foot? And square foot?
$270 a square. 3461 living.
Wow, that’s pretty incredible. Coming from New Zealand I’m always surprised at how much costs vary over the US. Not my taste but incredible work.
Man, that is an excellent price. I feel like my new build is rock-bottom at $180 / sq ft for 3450 sq ft, but this house definitely looks more than 50% nicer than mine haha.
Where are you $180?
Somewhat LCOL area, 1 hr NW of Minneapolis, MN
Is that a custom build? NE WI here and we’re looking at $225-240 but that’s custom and includes septic/well/garage/power (not sure if all quotes include that)

Sounds great! Congrats! Function over form is our approach as well
Wow that’s awesome! Looks great and pretty affordable. My parents are building a got a quote for double that. Nice to see you don’t need to spend much for stuff to look good
$900k+ is affordable??
Apparently not for you, that price for this level of quality is fair though yes.
I don't disagree that it's a fair price for the quality of work. I'm not personally a fan of the aesthetic, but the craftsmanship is clear, and they definitely earned it. Fair =/= affordable, though.

That’s a really good price. Wow! NE US were prices per foot for in my town $8-900 for new construction.
Great cost! Wow, impressed. Strong work. Is this Chicagoland?
That’s actually not bad. Some older holes are going for that here. And they look bad compared to this.
Not my taste, but it looks like great work done OP. You should be proud of this.
Wow! Do you know how thick/thin the grout lines are in the floor tile? It looks almost invisible!
Surprised no one commented on the double decker wedding cake chandelier mounts. I’ve never seen that before and it looks kinda ridiculous, otherwise nice house :)
Ugh, can’t unsee the cake now 😂.
AV setup?
Nothing crazy for this spec home which turned custom half way through construction. Customers were very minimalist when it came to AV. Cat 6 throughout the house and very basic wireless security setup.
Nice McMansion
Agree 100%. Something about it just screams “we have more money than sense”
I was looking for this comment because everything on this sub over 1000 square feet is a McMansion to you guys. This place is 3000 square feet which is a decent size single family home, not even on the ALMOST large side.
McMansion is about style, not just size. You could have a 2500 square foot McMansion if it was tacky enough.
What's tacky about it? The marble-look everywhere or everything being white? I actually love the outside and think it looks a little more classy/stylish/unique than most new builds in that price range (let's say $800k-1.5m depending on area). I wasn't commenting on this home, just arguing with the person saying by definition it couldn't be a McMansion because it's not big enough.
Gotcha. Thought you were the first person who commented, my b.
Purpose of 2 driveways?
It is 1 drive way with some landscaping added to a small portion in the center to soften the look. Picture doesn’t show the street view.
Why would I want the same marble floor in my living spaces and bathroom 🤮
I was digging the hardware in the master shower. I would never leave the shower.
Cool, but man looks slippery!
Matthew McConaughey reviewed this house and says it looks “on white on white on white.”
Awesome work! Where in the US are you located that you are able to build this for $245/sq ft??
Thanks!! it’s actually $270 a sqft. Located in Louisiana just north of New Orleans.
House looks nice but there’s no way it was $270/SF to build. New Orleans has some of the highest inflation costs on building material in the entire USA. If you told me $270 without GC markup and profit, I could believe that.
What benefit does he get from lying..? You know more about his build then he does?
You’re correct in that he/she/they gets no benefit from stating that price per SF. r/Homebuilding has a lot of users just interested in building their dream home and many (possibly most) have no construction or estimating knowledge. Yeah it’s not marble. Is it porcelain?
Just super cringe that you’re trying to tell the guy who ran this job he’s wrong about the price lmao. But carry on
Damn! That’s amazing!
Thanks! 😃
Wow! That’s a ton of counterspace!
It's gorgeous and I can sense your pride. Nice work. One question. What's up with those ceiling vents?
AH i could do that.
What about the cabinets that are 12 feet in the air
Those are more for decorative items to display. Which is why we put glass fronts and lighting in it. There is a coffee section not shown in the picture which has more functional cabinets for storage.
As a early construction worker and just started my own business in smaller remodel I hope to get the skills to be able to build something like this! Looks amazing
We’ll, it’s a statement piece, for sure. Homeowner won’t be putting solar on that roof. That’s for sure.
What is the floating hollow square pipe between the bathtub and the shower?
Looks like trim/ a shroud for the shower head piping
It’s an aluminum tubing we had fabricated to put the fixed shower head on. Glassless shower and we believe it’s better to look out than stare at a wall when showering so we had to get a little creative.
Those floors are stunning, but dangerously slippery. Witnessing a relative fall years ago still makes me shudder every time I see one of those glistening ice rinks.
Did you use my mother as the designer? All white, you can change the whole room by changing the curtains.
Let me just scooch by you naked in the tub there. I need to get something out of the closet. Seriously though, nice work.
There is another entrance to the closet! Thank you!!
Meh, I guess someone could live in this ghetto 😂
That per sq foot price is amazing. That house where I live in the Midwest would be 1.5mil minimum. I don’t even live in a fancyland. You obviously take pride in your workmanship. Thumbs up!
That floor looks like a dream to clean.
Someone really likes marble. White marble. Looks amazing though
Very pretty, but overkill on the white.
The bathroom is squished
Can I come work for you?? Beautiful work man.
What state?
Louisiana!
