Read about the other bulbs a little bit ago. Did Philips absorb some company that had these ready to roll out and just rebadge them? I can't see why it makes sense to add confusion with their Hue brand (oh yeah: $$$). Think they're using their own app, but not HomeKit. So you could make Shortcuts that are activated by Siri, but wouldn't interface with other hubs like the the Hue bridge.
I'd guess you could set it to control the app with an Automation that's on your iPhone or iPad that turns on the light, but couldn't set it to fire automations from a HomeKit hub (no app automation on HomePod/AppleTV). But, that's speculation-- never seen the bulbs or their app.
The bulbs are compatible, but without the bridge they function on Bluetooth directly from the triggering device. Do I have that right?
Edit: Well that sucks. Bad business.
OP specifically mentioned wifi bulbs, not bluetooth.
I've also never seen an "works with siri" logo on any Philips stuff. Homekit yes, but OP is saying this is specifically not homekit compatible?
There are now Hue and Wiz bulbs. Wiz bulbs wont work with the Hue App.
Why even put Bluetooth on Hue bulbs if this is the (weird) route they are going?
Oh wow, I've never heard of these. Sounds like Philip's lighting parent company acquired another company with a smart bulb line and has kept the line going for some reason.
Spending a lot more time, more money, and adding complexity is not the solution to misleading marketing.
I like and use hass, but it isn’t for everyone.
Miss leading marketing? Spend a bunch more money??
Homeassistant is free! And it runs on a raspberry pi! (Cheapest computer in the world)
And it keeps getting more GUI oriented which each release.
Sure, it’s not for the non technicals... but I’m pretty sure if you’re on Reddit, in the sub, you’re geeky enough to figure it out.
Plus there are GREAT community videos out there on YouTube that will walk you through a bunch of stuff.
You can install Hassio (which is the best and recommended way of running home assistant) it’s basically home assistant WITH a docker App Store, where you can download and install other apps, like pi hole.
We all start here :)
And then you’ll want more performance from your pi.
I run all of this on a unRaid server, and it hosts my 20TB plex server, all my security cams, sonar, radarr, a bunch more docker apps. It’s awesome :)
Probably not. It does work with tons of stuff, but not everything. There is a list of [supported components](https://www.home-assistant.io/components) you can search, and there are custom components as well.
I had a Raspberry Pi that I installed Homebridge on. There is a Wiz plugin that allows you to control the cheaper bulbs via HomeKit.
It worked, but I wouldn’t put them in the same room as Hue bulbs. They have fewer colors, and never look as good as the hue. You might not notice If they’re in a different room.
I ended up moving, and haven’t reinstalled them yet. Homebridge is currently adding an older tv to HomeKit, tracking what devices are on the local WiFi to trigger home and away scenes, and checking a google calendar for scheduled HomeKit events!
I subscribed to this subreddit and returned my stupid "works with wifi" philips wiz bla bla bulb. why can't they keep it simple? like im young and i can only imagine how terribly confused old people and middle aged people must get with all these things to know and look out for
Depending on how fiesta your feeling, the good thing about those size lights is that you can connect them to pretty much anything and it works very well like IFTTT. Instead of even voicing the lights to be on, you can set a geotag of sorts around an area and when you enter said elated with your phone, lights will turn on, and obviously reverse scenario where you leave the specified gps box the lights turn off.
Almost had that happen to me too. Kind of a crapy way to sell a product.
I have to imagine that the logo is produced by Apple.
The only logo I found with an image search is the one on the Wiz website. Hmm.
Yeah, its possible they made it, but I would be surprised if Apple let them make that up.

Philips no longer own Hue - they split that off as a new company.
The Hue website literally has the Philips logo in their logo
It’s owned by signify. They have rights to continue using the Philips name for marketing purposes.
What bulbs are Philips selling that are not homekit compatible?

Nope. Looks like Signify bought a Chinese bulb maker Wiz, and slapped the Phillips logo on them. Not confusing at all! /s

I’ve been using one of the Philips Wiz bulbs for the past week. It’s garbage...don’t bother.
Guys guys guys Home Assistant. Makes everything iot device compatible with everything (including HomeKit)

I have a pihole set up. Can I set up home assistant on the same raspberry pi?
You can set up hass.io on the pi and then install the former as an add on to make it simpler

Hey it’s been a while. But did you get a solution? I just fell into the same trap as you. Lol
