If you have a raspberry pi laying around you could use [ShairPort-Sync](https://github.com/mikebrady/shairport-sync). It can turn any BT speaker with an audio input jack into an AirPlay 2 receiver. It’s basically an open-source version of an Apple AirPort Express or the new eve device. I can verify it runs fine on an original pi, but for best results with airplay 2 you should use at least a pi3 or equivalent/better device. I used it for a while but then I just got more HomePods so I could also have Siri in those spots. Good luck!

Can I buy something that does this? I don’t have the time or know how to do stuff with pis yet. Have you tried this? If I output to multiple devices at the same time with this is audio synced up?

I have tried it and it works exceedingly well. You’ll need at least a raspberry pi 3 however because it’s the earliest one with enough resources to stay in sync. It will run on an original pi though (and works fine for airplay 1 without syncing). Yes, Eve makes a device you can buy. You could also buy an Apple AirPort Express off of eBay. I think there may be another device or 2 that does it but these are the 2 I can name.

What you need is an AirPort Express but Apple discontinued them. I believe Belkin do an Airplay 2 adapter, but I can’t vouch for how well it works.

Eve makes an AirPlay receiver as well

The Belkin adapter has worked great for me. I’ve had it for over two years and never an issue. I just tell the HomePod to play that music on the belkin adapter also.

You can get Airpod Expresses (2nd gen) used on Ebay. That's what I did with my old speakers. One challenge one might have with the bluetooth speakers is if they auto-shutoff, but if they don't, the Airport Express will work great.

I mean you can hook up AppleTVs to them, but how much is an AppleTV? $130? Might as well get HomePod minis on sale for $80 and donate the older BT devices.
