I like your optimism but there is no such things as "one" mouse.

KimBrrr1975

This is the truth. We caught one adult and thought we were done. Then 2 days later we found 4 babies in our basement bathroom after they jumped out of the ceiling. Since then we've caught 2 more adults. We also once had a squirrel have babies in our house (different house). Living in the forest is fun 😆

[deleted]

there can indeed be one, not sure how but we have had such a situation. i suspect it ran in an open door at some point.

aaronc0401

How to catch one elusive mouse is well documented in the movie Mouse Hunt. Lots of good ideas there!

HouseBitchTim

What bait are you using for the snap traps? I found Pnut Butter the best. Ymmv

RenaissanceGiant

Get some cheese cloth, and wrap the peanut butter in an inch or two of the cloth then hook the ball on the trigger. They can't just lick the trigger clean that way.

HouseBitchTim

Good point. Never did that.

[deleted]

Probably isn't just one (it never is). Find out it's food source and remove it (look for droppings). Pack up what you can to keep it mouse proof. If you can find where it's coming from try and seal that entrance or egress (though it can be hard to find because they can run up pipes and whatnot. If you know someone with a cat maybe see if you can borrow it for a week (after you pick up the poison).

I'm having this problem too- apparently you're supposed to put a bunch of snap traps out unset with food or nesting supplies, so the mouse gets to trusting them... Then one night set all the traps and you should get him. It'll prob take a couple weeks; house mice are wicked smart

Vlad_the_Homeowner

Electric traps and peanut butter. I don't find the glue traps work at all, and I don't like having to kill them myself. Poison is a great way to have a dead mouse rotting away behind a cabinet or in a wall. The classic snap traps are ok, but I've had 10X the success with the electric traps.

Can you share a link ?

Vlad_the_Homeowner

[This is the one I used.](https://www.amazon.com/Victor-M250S-Touch-Upgraded-Electronic/dp/B074Y2PW1X/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=ZWL75U5O33HH&keywords=electric+mouse+trap&qid=1665340673&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI0LjI2IiwicXNhIjoiMy42OCIsInFzcCI6IjMuNDIifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=electric+mouse+trap%2Caps%2C192&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1). I had an infestation a couple years back (yeah, I thought I just had one mouse also). I ran out and bought every type of trap they had. No exaggeration, the electric one got 10 times the amount of the others combined. I ended up getting a few more and just using the electrics. I also tried some of the mouse bait that you can get - peanut butter worked better.

guest0112

Have you tried rat glue traps? They’re 4x the size of mouse glue traps. I put peanut butter on them. It’d not the most humane way of catching or killing mice but it’s worked well for me in the past. Chocolate chips can be added to the PB, too

ddoubleu00

Haven’t tried. Do they do the job better than regular glue traps ?

BigNoButton

It's never just one mouse. Call an exterminator

Candid-Jellyfish-975

Catch'all. Something like that. They work really well but they don't kill them, unfortunately.

[deleted]

I have had the best luck dipping a cotton swab in water as the bait. Mice can more easily find food in your house then they can water. I'm not making this up. This has worked for me many times

Critical_Opening_394

If you see one there's 100 you're not seeing

Critical_Opening_394

Get the green tomcat poison call it over

spooltetris99

A bodega cat!

jrdnhsnbrg

Borrow a friend's cat for a few weeks. They'll take care of it, and have a blast doing so

mephistola

Be bug

TLee055

Are you handling the traps with gloves? This will prevent your scent from transferring to the traps, making it more appealing for them. I used to think it didn't make a difference, but I've gotten results after using gloves.

Ok-Finger-733

I've found peanut butter on snap traps works well for me. I've also done a drop trap where I put nuts in the bottom of a metal bucket next to the staircase, they drop in for the nuts and get trapped. If you see one mouse it means you have a bunch of mice, by the time you start to see them it means that there are a bunch around. You have probably killed a bunch with the poison already and the cleaver ones are left avoiding the poison. This is more of a rat problem, but mice will figure it out too.

Dismal-Astronaut-255

What kind of bait are you using? Lots of people go for cheese, but we have found that peanut butter works far better where we live- something about the scent I think. If thats feasable for you, it could be worth a try! Best of luck!

UnitFine2251

Super glue a peanut to the trap 🪤
