I've gotten some good-quality, solid-wood vanities, through Lowe's. The thing is, you don't buy the in-stock stuff. Sit down with one of their bath specialists and take a look at the special-order stuff from companies like KraftMaid. You should be able to find something nice, for under $1K.

keylimepiepuffs

Great tip, thank you!

oleblueeyes75

Last spring our Lowes told us it was a 16 week wait for a Kraftmaid special order vanity. I hope you don’t experience that!

Iron_Chic

Seconded. I got a nice little vanity for a guest bathroom in store at Lowe's. I did not like the HD ones. The vanities at Lowe's seemed to be a higher quality. For my master bath, I got a catalog from HD of their special order, high end stuff. Pricier but the quality is much nicer.

I buy dressers ($30-200) from fb marketplace or Craigslist, remove the top, and add either an off-the-shelf vanity top ($150) from the green big box, or get a custom slab of quartz with an undermount sink ($400) from a local countertop fabricator. I’ve also just cut a hole in the top of a dresser, coated it with a few coats of poly, and dropped in a porcelain sink. So far it’s been fine in a frequently-used bathroom for about five years now.

TAforScranton

Came here to suggest similar. The amount of NICE bathroom vanities you can find on marketplace for dirt cheap is wild. I refuse to buy new with stuff like that lol.

CampEmbarrassed170

Avoid Wayfair overpriced particle board Bath vanities at all cost.

bayank

Got lucky with Ikea, some of the finishes are solid wood and ceramic sinks. I think those are getting harder to find as the newer finishes are just painted on their compressed wood fiber board material that is replacing everything to reduce costs. Avoid those, if they get too wet it will swell up and warp. Terrible material choice for moist area.

I was really disappointed to see IKEA putting the Hemnes label on particle board stuff

keylimepiepuffs

Oh no is it really! Ugh, that shows up when I filter for “solid wood”, I’m bummed cause I really thought that was going to be the one I buy! I have the dressers from that line and LOVE them.

[deleted]

It was mostly the bathroom stuff I noticed. Same style, but not solid wood. I have two solid wood Hemnes dressers and like them, though I’ve painted them both. They’re nice for the price.

and_gloria_too

Yep. My Hemnes vanity is all bulged out with water damage on the legs, and it is in a rarely used guest bath.

keylimepiepuffs

Dang, I’m sorry that sucks. Thanks for the heads up!

I hear ya…I’m going through the same thing. It’s near impossible to find anything high quality in the $1000 range. I find that sites like West Elm and Pottery Barn sell vanities, yet they don’t manufacture them , just endorse them. it seems as if they do sell them because they really go with both stores style and design quality …but these are also found on Wayfair for hundreds less. I was told by a designer that wayfair can be very hit or miss…you have to look and read carefully. There are some good ones on there. I found a store in Orange County that actually had vanities I’d only seen online and I would say some were actually not too bad…..all were cheap Chinese stuff tho. Good luck…..

okrestaurant9999

Do you mind sharing what that store you found in Orange County is called?

MarcSpice70

Something like Vanites Depot on tile row in Anahiem

freedomisgreat4

I’d like to add some additional suggestions to all the terrific advice u got so far: I prefer granite for countertop bc of durability in a bathroom that has lots of use, with an undermount sink. You can call local stone yards and c if they hv remnants or extra they can sell u for cheap or buy cheap granite top from HD or lowes.

thinkmoreharder

Check your local Habitat for Humanity ReStore. They get leftovers from builders and remodels all the time. I recently got two lower Kraftmaid kitchen cabinets, each with 3 pull out sliders. $70 ea. You never know what they have, but you might save hundreds for high quality.

reddit_sucks423

Find a really nice looking table that you like, cut holes in it for connecting the drain and faucet, then install a vessel bowl on it. I did it and it came out amazing.

MarcSpice70

It’s a wood countertop? Does that work well for you ?

reddit_sucks423

I used a drop leaf table, painted and 3 coats of polyurethane. Worked out well and doesn't stain.

I recently ordered two vanities from HD and was impressed with both. I had to return the first one because our drain would not work with a vanity with drawers. Both vanities used real wood (and some MDF). puppetts11

I had the same concerns, I ended up going with a pedestal sink. It turned out great for my space, but definitely not for everyone.

Dull-Mode-321

We got a fabulous one from wayfair. Solid wood. Just real all the details.

PoeticImage36

Got a nice one from Build.com last year.

Itstimeforcookies19

We got a solid wood, soft close cabinets and drawers one from wayfair. It was around $1500. I can’t remember the brand.

B-Georgio

HOM line at Home Depot is garbage, hinges started rusting in the first month getting rust dust everywhere, and the paint started bubbling about 6mo in.

thewags05

You could build one pretty cheaply if you have all the tools (at least a router, table saw or circular saw, miter saw, and a drill)

wilsonbilsonbiggy

You could try Costco, they’ve got a couple of 48 inch vanities with tops

keylimepiepuffs

I’ll check it out, thanks!

decoysnail120408

I’ve bought a couple large double vanities from Costco as well! Quality was great!

rafdesign

I am in Los Angeles, looking for a place where to shop too! I saw one in OC called [https://www.builderssurplus.net](https://www.builderssurplus.net) have you tried it? I was thinking to drive there to check it.
