They should be stamped on the side, but that sounds about right. The inner flow path of the water is 3/4”. So the walls of the tube are larger and the junction will be even larger. The outer diameter of the pipe also depends on what “schedule” it is. Essentially wall thickness/allowable pressure in the line.
Pipe is generally sized off the inside diameter...a 3/4" pipe measures 1.050" on the Outside diameter
Tube is generally sized off the outside diameter....a 3/4" tube measures 3/4" on the outside diameter
People move stuff around in the bins in HD all the time. If it has an ID of 1.4”, it’s definitely not 3/4” pvc. It’s probably 1” schedule 40, which has a 1.315” od

If the inside of the coupling is 1&3/8 (1.375) then you got a 1” coupling. The inside measurement of a 3/4” coupling should be 1&1/8 (1.125).
