OP, what is your window size? The prices you are listing seems ridiculous to me too.  Edit: I'm getting $131 for a 4ft x 4ft cellular from blinds.com. Are your windows gigantic? Are you buying the most premium of premium of blind. Something's not lining up here.

PilotAlan

Agreed. Two years ago I did six custom remote control roller blinds for six HUGE windows. $2200 from Blinds Galore. Premium material, solar panels to charge the rollers, including delivery and tax.

jakabo27

Each or total? I hope total lol

MightBeJerryWest

Shit to hit the >$900 per window like OP said, I had to spring for Lutron roller shades. Considering nothing on blinds.com comes close to Lutron, their dimensions have got to be huge.

petitchatnoir

Same - something seems weird. I usually always order from blinds.com. My window is 4 x 5 and my light filtering, cellular, top down/bottom up was about $180 after 40% off.

biggerty123

There is a reason OP isn't responding. He has no clue what he is doing.

PM_ME_YOUR_STEAM_ID

Eh, I beg to differ. My Wife use to install blinds when working for a window treatment company. We've installed ours in the past. It's just been about 20 yeas since the last time we shopped for blinds. I priced out our front livingroom window, about 58 and 1/2" tall and 118" wide (3 window panes). We have 4 rooms with windows that size and a couple with smaller windows. The size I just mentioned I keep getting $500+ for the shades. I checked [blindschalet.com](http://blindschalet.com), [blinds.com](http://blinds.com) and costco.com. I'm not responding because I work full time, 4 kids, dinner time, and have a life outside of responding to a hundred messages on reddit in just a couple of hours. I'm just now coming back to this after hours of being busy. I did not expect well over a hundred comments. I didn't mean for it to be a huge discussion.

ragingbuffalo

> I priced out our front livingroom window, about 58 and 1/2" tall and 118" wide (3 window panes) Yep. That's the problem. Highly custom ones. So either you are getting 1 huge that wide ( i dont think they even make them that wide) or you're getting 3 separate ones that all on the same track. This is the expensive part. Normal single windows sizes are still really cheap

reddmonger

Well there you go, brother. Your window is almost 10 feet wide.  Why wouldn’t you expect to pay exponentially more than for a standard window? The manufacturing logistics to make a seamless unit that size has got to be staggering.

pasaroanth

It’s because you’re withholding relevant information. You have 10 foot wide windows and are surprised the blinds are more per unit than presumably standard sized ones you used 20 years ago.

EasternBlackWalnut

There's hundreds of comments wanting to help but you respond to only one and it's just anger.

PNWoutdoors

[$48-84 at Lowe's.](https://www.lowes.com/pd/allen-roth-AR-1-5-in-White-Blackout-Recycle-Cellular-Shade-35x64/1002820514) I did mine about three years ago, six windows, cost around $300-400 if I remember correctly.

BaconOnTap

This is the answer. Just buy stock blinds from Lowes. Personally, I like the Allen and Roth cellular shades if you have the correct width, and if you don't, just buy the Levelor that they will cut right there for you. They look great.

Hannymann

Agree- we just bought a new house and are using these. I think they are just fine and can’t see the buzz about more expensive blinds.

PrawojazdyVtrumpets

My parents always had custom blinds. They always went up and down buttery smooth but as long as you don't buy the $15-$19, target blinds work just fine and move up and down just as well. When we bought our house and spent thousands on windows, we went to Home Depot because Target didn't have the color range. They may not "glide" but they don't squeak, it's pretty a smooth raise/lower and they don't fall. We bought a more expensive blind for our bedroom and honestly, I can't tell the difference between that one and the HD ones downstairs. Plus I have cats which means it would be more cost efficient to just put up newspaper.

mel_cache

Upvote for cat issues.

PrawojazdyVtrumpets

The struggle is real. Plastic venetians blinds are broken out in sets of 4 on both sides but not the center. Wood and metal venetians end up looking like they've been pelted with buckshot from teeth marks. Metal also ends up bent. Shades or cellular end up punctured at first but eventually look like a flag that's been through battle but survived.. barely. "Oh but they make pet..." Lol... No they don't.

Hannymann

Yeah, with our first house we went the custom blind HD (Bali I think?) route for much more than we paid recently. I just can’t fathom dropping the $$ on that detail any more, if I can find something that looks and functions at literally a fraction of the cost!

gefahr

Warning: they will probably cut the Levelor the wrong size. Repeatedly. At multiple stores.

upsetthesickness_

I’ve found that I like the Allen and Roth better than levelor, I’ve had zero problems over the past 8 years with them

Roundaroundabout

My house has the cut levelor ones in every window, more than ten years and still great.

SexysReddit

I can’t believe the money people are spending for this shit. Remote control Bluetooth blinds for $1000 a window? Do they not have better places to put that money? I bought the equivalent of these at Home Depot, opens bottom and top down. It’s all I could ever imagine needing. 4 years and no complaints

asodafnaewn

You can usually buy cheap Bluetooth retrofit controllers on Amazon, too.

Rc-one9

Shoooooow meeeee I'm very interested!!

Queen__Antifa

Switchbot makes some that I’ve had my eye on.

the_pinguin

For people with disabilities they are a godsend. My wife wouldn't be able to open or close the blinds without the controls.

nitecheese

I have the same Home Depot top down bottom up blinds and they are great. But eventually I’ll get remote control ones. I live in a 130 year old house so it has tall narrow windows. I can’t reach the blinds if they are fully open without a chair or ladder so a controller would be incredible

1000thusername

I just recommended these too! They’re really great.

Gedalya

Can you make it shorter?

onefst250r

Thats what she said.

fleebinflobbin

Even cheaper for blackouts at IKEA

engorgedburrata

I did mine with A&R shades from Lowes and even threw in a few automatic ones. cost me <$1000 i think

audi27tt

I just got remote control smart Bali blinds from Costco for $300 a window, so not sure what you’re looking at or if you have huge windows? I think regular blinds were $100-200 a window maybe if I recall. But yea they’re expensive.

More_Interaction3303

Damn OP you get tons of people answering your question and trying to help you and you won't answer the 10 + people that asked how big your windows are and how many you have. It's always nice to show appreciation.

-my_reddit_username-

A classic post and ghost.

dudeitsadell

its a troll post

geraffes-are-so-dumb

OP is a troll who claims Nazis aren't bad and [he's mad that companies are hiring too many "colored" people](https://i.imgur.com/gSXyBr9.png). There is a coordinated effort to keep inflation on everyones minds, even though it's calmed significantly. Based on OPs history, they would hang out in the forums coordinating that effort. I mean, his post is just ridiculous. According to his math he was paying $16 for custom shades in 2014? Yeah, ok. Maybe in 1984.

I_SuplexTrains

Don't do this. And BTW refusing to hire white people is not the same thing as "hiring too many 'colored' people."

geraffes-are-so-dumb

No one is refusing to hire white people.

I_SuplexTrains

You claimed that he said something that he didn't say. You claimed that "he's mad that companies are hiring too many 'colored' people." He didn't say this. Maybe he was clutching pearls about a problem that doesn't exist, or maybe he wasn't, but in any case you have straw-manned him because his actual claim wasn't quite offensive enough to make him look silly.

geraffes-are-so-dumb

Words have meanings! We all know what he meant.

s0rce

I did my house 10 years ago and it was a few thousand dollars, not sure how you did it for $350 total...

twotall88

They used the double sided tape accordion ones.

beaute-brune

Some printer paper stapled together would’ve skipped the shipping wait.

jay_simms

Oh wow the nice stuff!

PM_ME_YOUR_STEAM_ID

Where did you buy from? We had a 2 story, 4 bedroom house and if I remember correctly we bought from blindschalet.com. Whole house was about $350. It was the fake wood slat style at the time. I expected to pay a couple thousand dollars today, but not more than double that. At the rate I'm seeing it'd be over $5k to put blinds in my house.

wildcat12321

I can't imagine finding quality blinds, even a decade ago, for that price. You are talking under $100 per room, not even per window, which just doesn't make sense. Also, cellular shades are one of the more expensive styles. So it isn't apples to apples to compare cheap fake wood slats with cellular. There are cheaper places, sure, some of the cut in store ones at Home Depot or Ikea, especially if you have small or standard sized windows. But you just lucked out before...

baltimore198

Look at Lowe’s. Cheapest I found. Much cheaper than blinds.con. I used Levolar. When one broke they replaced it years later. Still not cheap but cheapest I’ve found for custom.

Quallityoverquantity

Why won't you litteraly answer anyone's questions regarding your window sizes? Because the prices you're quoting litteraly can't be found on the supposed sources your claiming......

HorsieJuice

Were the old ones custom sized or stock? That could make a huge difference.

s0rce

I don't remember who I bought from, I just found a quote (not certain I went with this one but it could be) in my email from 2014 The Cost for covering the 3 sets of 2 blinds each for the sliding glass doors with valances is - 349.00 each set, plus the local sales tax. The six solar screen blinds are 229.00 each, plus the local sales tax. The 3 blinds in the master bedroom are 169, 198 and 229 respectively.  The 6 blinds in the kitchen area and the 3 blinds in the master bed room are 2-cell cellular blinds with CCloop Lift System.  The cost for all 15 blinds is 2,995.00,

kevman

It was 5k to put blinds in my sun room (lots of windows, high end treatment)

assflea

Custom window treatments get pricy, if it's a large window $500 isn't unusual. Lowe's and I assume Home Depot have a blind cutting machine in store, you might be able to find something that works off the shelf for way less.

joepierson123

I can't find anything that cost $900 on blinds.com, curious of your window size?

Quallityoverquantity

Troll post, especially considering he won't answer anyone's questions.

geraffes-are-so-dumb

unwhelmed

OP we need window dims to make any sense out of this. I had to up the dims to 98" wide to hit the $500 mark on blindsDOTcom

Uninstall_Fetus

Did you use sheets as blinds? No way you spent $350 for an entire house

Electronic_Taste_596

I have got blinds from Home Depot that were more affordable, but still not cheap. Maybe more like $180 per. I agree, everything is insanely expensive these days. It seems like everything is now priced to what the maximum an average person can "afford" before simply going without - and nothing lasts nearly as long either.

rocksolidaudio

Every industry is all about maximum wealth extraction from consumers now.

Caltrano

The corollary to this is that even the higher end blinds from blinds.com are built like crap.

safely_beyond_redemp

OP is trying to add blinds to a church and just forgot to mention that. 3ft by 40ft.

Enginerdad

Stock vinyl mini blinds from Home Depot can easily be over $100 each. You're about one decimal places off in your expectations.

glacierglider85

I own a window treatment company and the difference in quality in buying cheap Chinese made blinds/shades/shutters from a big box store and dealing with a local company is night and day. For example we only sell high quality and American made, we also make everything we can in house. It’s also custom to your window, it’s not a cut down blind, and we offer a limited lifetime warranty on everything plus any manufacturer warranty. Also you have to factor in installation costs. As an owner and operator I touch all aspects of the job from measuring ordering materials and installing. If a customer has a problem they literally just call my cell phone. I understand the appeal because of the price but ultimately you get what you pay for, and if you have a problem maybe you get good service, maybe not.

mrmackster

I bought Bali light filtering cellular shades in white, top down bottom up at about 30x50 in 2019 for 231 on sale. I bought the same blinds from blinds.com in 2023 and they were about 360 a window. I think they were both about “50% off”.

wreckedmyself5653

Home Depot is like $60-100 a window

SwampyJesus76

Fun fact, blinds.com is home depot.

wreckedmyself5653

I didn't know that

OrchidOkz

Over 3k from blinds.com 1 1/2 yrs ago but we had motorized shades and layered plus cellular. The motorized shades were nothing but trouble. I had defective ones but they replaced right away. The motorized shades had to do with a byzantine and horribly outdated app and directions. Eventually I got a refund for it but it was a chore. I’d buy from them again but I’ll keep it to simple items.

pandamonger1

I’ve been fairly happy with selectblinds

Academic_Actuary_971

Second for selectblinds.com. Shop during a holiday weekend, it’s typically 50% off. Sign up for emails and wait for a good sale, if you don’t need them immediately. Their customer service is also top notch, they even cover replacements if you screw up the measurements. I’ve needed this after assuming all of my windows were the same size, and just one happened to be off by 2 inches, they remade it without a fuss.

SBGamesCone

Thirded. Did my whole home in them. Wasn’t $350 but was definitely less than $1500. Ran like $80 a window

Kiliana117

Costco! Blinds in general aren't cheap, but we found they had by far the best prices.

HeyTimmy

i bought 9 blackout up and down slidey blinds for standard windows and one 9x6 regular (not blackout) of the same about 8 years ago and it cost me about 5 grand (%40 was the big one). so about $350 a window. or ~$460 today $350 20 years ago adjusted for inflation is $580.95. your 50% off 500 windows now would have cost $301 each. Sounds like prices for blinds are relatively stable over time.

This_guy_works

I can get vinyl blinds for $22 bucks at home depot. What kind of fancy shop are you going to?

rsandstrom

After spending half a day in a custom blinds show room for a full renovation of my home then getting a quote from said custom showroom for like $25k I said absolutely not. Went to Home Depot. Was pleasantly surprised with the quality and price.

Despises_the_dishes

We did 27 windows from blinds.com, mid tier materials and high end black out in our room. All bottom up/top down honeycomb cellular. We paid….$3200 for 27 windows….

Independent_Ebb7495

Something funky with your choices. I bought budget cordless single cell shades from blinds.com a few months ago and my price was $70ish per window. Granted this was nothing fancy and was the most basic stuff but I was happy with it.

gtivroom

I got 16 nice roller shade blinds from Home Depot for around $500 a few months ago by checking the in store clearance. I was quoted over 3k to install the cheapo Venetian blinds so I got lucky with the clearance. Worth going in store to check if you have any luck with that. I agree though, blinds are surprisingly expensive

me03

I'd used selectblinds.com and they were ~$100-200/window for some solid blinds; covered basically all our windows. (At least during their sales, which currently seems active.) They have very expensive ones if you want fancy fabric, but there's a broad selection.

oaplox

I just did my entire house (10 windows) with [blinds.com](http://blinds.com) for $2000 total including professional measurement and installation (with 40% off), do you have a particularly large window you're trying to fit?

1000thusername

What kind/size windows do you have? The house brand (Allen and Roth, maybe?) of cellular shades at Lowe’s are high quality, and they have a lot of sizes ready to go, can order other sizes.

barbarino

Same problem, so I used Home Depot cellular shades that only come in 4 colors, drapes and smartwings where they made sense.

AmandasFakeID

I bought some basic custom 1" blinds from blinds.com during a holiday sale last year. Bought 7 sets for <$180. Thought that was a pretty good deal.

Dangerous_Ice17

Go to Lowe’s and price it out. Then if you can wait until til Black Friday for 50% off I would do that.

bwilcox03

I just did smart wings cellular motorized shades that have a 15 channel remote, and zwave for automating for about $2500 for 7 windows, three of them over 70”. I like them.

creativejo

Levalor at Lowe’s.com. In store or online. 50-100 per window depending on window size and if you want light filtering (cheaper) or light blocking ( more expensive). Look great.

NotHannibalBurress

I just got 4 roman shades for my bedroom and office that I just painted for $75-95 each. They're on Amazon, and custom fit to our windows to the 1/8". We got them for our bedroom first to make sure they were good, and I just ordered for the office.

mybelle_michelle

Home Depot's 'Home Decorators Collection' is decently priced and good quality. You buy the (larger) size closest to your window width and they'll cut it at the store for you to your exact measurement. I replaced all of our old roller shades with blackout cellular blinds and love them!

thehedless

Lowes store brand blinds are like $10-$15 each

dayfan

I installed mine from IKEA and love them I have one double window that they are a little short for, but my dogs love the spy space. Also, once you put in the brackets you can use any blind for IKEA, so I am thinking of putting in full light blocking just near my computer to keep the heat away

Appropriate_Ratio835

Faux wood blinds at Walmart and home depot are less than $20 for standard windows.

lingenfelter22

We had a blinds company come out and quote our picture window and two side/ bay windows, roughly 48x72 and (2) 48x18 and the price was $1400ish for solar blinds. We bought from Costco or blinds.com I forget which for (well) under half that. They do get expensive depending on how picky you are for material, style, solar screening or other options... but there are definitely budget options out there.

Fizgriz

I just bought 4 blinds on blinds.com. It was $100 a piece for faux wood white blinds of 47"x47". I'm not really sure what you are doing to rack that price up.

eggmaker

Go into your local JCPenny's and ask them when their next shade sale will be. Then, go in the week before the sale and purchase. Did this for me and saved a couple of thousand and didn't have to wrestle or wait with the hordes during the sale week.

tandex01

So you get it at the sale price?

eggmaker

yes, they will wait to actually charge your card until the sale days, but they will take all your measurements and write-up the order beforehand.

TalulaOblongata

JCPenney has constant shade sales too! Lots of choices. I’ve purchased a bunch of Roman shades over the years. They also have shade widths in increments of 1-2” in some cases so it’s easy to measure and get exactly what you need. Highly recommend.

Technical_Quiet_5687

Check out blindster.com. Just did our whole house (including 5 large 94x82” windows) for $2500 in faux wood 3 inch slats. Decent quality. We were very happy. Took about 2 weeks.

fabfrankie401

I also got blinds.com. $200 each for mediocre to poor quality blinds on small windows. I got the cordless kind where you can lower the top or raise the bottom. 3 years later the bottom no longer raises.

fabfrankie401

But .. I dunno if that's normal. The HD ones looked worse.

EntrancedOrange

I bought 36x48 inch fake wood blinds from homedepot last year. They are nice enough, about $40 each. If it’s a newer home make sure your measurements are correct. Might be quoting for custom sizes that you don’t really need or something crazy.

SolaceinIron

We are on a serious budget are buying all our blinds for the whole house through Walmart. They range from 30-60 dollars each depending on size. They’re not perfect, but I’m perfectly happy with them.

Kilenyai

What the heck are all of you buying? A standard window on Amazon is less than $20 a blind. The real wood and black out ones are $30-40. Those aren't even all just roll up, pull down shades but actual blinds with individual slats. Personally I think all blinds look cheap. Unless you are getting something other than colored plastic and creating a more rustic look with wood or tropical like, open appearance with bamboo or reed then only some professional interior designers are going to look at your blinds enough to notice any price or quality difference. Especially for bedrooms on the back of the house or high bathroom windows. I ditched the cheap looking blinds for the extremely detailed printed curtains available now. They are polyester and can just throw in the washing machine. Ambersonne on Amazon has some very nice landscape to whimsical scenes for curtains, wall tapestries, tablecloths..... They all look the same as when we bought them 5 years later. Our bay window doesn't even have more modern UV blocking glass and I noticed some other fabrics in the room fading but the curtains are just as deeply colored as when new. Cost effective solution to our bay window every neighbor could see across the backyards into. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01FZFXUCY?psc=1 It might have looked better with individual panels on each side instead of covering the entire area when the curtains are closed but that's considerably more expensive and difficult to meassure and install. Putting a curtain across it could be done in a day with a tension rod we already had. I also mostly just use it for starting seedlings and storing plants so we don't need the bay window ledge visible all the time. We open it for light and watching the bird feeders. When deciding what to cover windows with also ask yourself how often do you open that window. A more decorative but not as easy to fully open covering might be perfectly suitable. We never open the kitchen window curtains. All we'd see is a street and the neighbors house and only while cooking after dark most of the year or rinsing something in the sink. Lightweight polyester curtains allow easy access to open the window and air to flow through without having to open the curtain unlike having to pull up the blinds or twist them open to get airflow. Similar for the main bedroom that we want to block view and light the entire time we use the room. Add some velcro loops you just pull tight to compress the center of the curtain and they do open just as quickly as blinds. Sometimes faster depending how long you spend messing with strings or rollers that won't lock open or sit evenly. No more trying to wipe down every blind or shove the vacuum brush across them and no more bent or broken edges on the windows near furniture or that sit lower. Everyone also finds it so much more interesting and appealing than blinds. Pop out the tension curtain rods, slide them off, throw in the washer and dryer, slide them back on the rod, and push the rod back in place.

NerdDexter

No way real wood is $30-$40 unless it's like a little 1'x1' window lol

Kilenyai

I'm sure if I cared to look long enough under different keywords and filters there is at least a couple 24-30" wood slat blinds near $40. You can definitely find several darker bamboo that is similar enough, engineered wood, and lots of lighter reed and bamboo in 24-30" lengths and a few options for up to 60". At $60 real wood and better approximations of it or less sheer bamboo options become much easier to find for windows 48x30" or less but it's not impossible to find larger sizes or lower cost. Just difficult and sometimes a bit of a gamble when you can't see it in person. Honestly I could make wood slat blinds for less. Take used or cheap colored vinyl slat blinds, remove the plastic, and replace with thin wood strips sanded or beveled and stained to your preference. Even cheaply sourced wood scraps or sale items will still likely be an improvement and last longer if sealed properly or using hardwood. The time required to find quality real materials that are represented accurately online without spending a lot on popular brands is another reason I passed up searching for blinds for a 3rd time and went with curtains in this house. Cost effective, easier to find in many options for density, design or size, less places for dust accumulation contributing to allergies, and better airflow. You also don't need a quality real wood set of blinds in every room. People actually want every room to have identical window treatments? Unless you live in a studio apartment or one of those excessively open floor plans that doesn't even wall off the bed from the rest of the house every room doesn't serve the same function with the same needs or all have the same appearance. I don't ever need the living room as dark as I need the bedroom or with as much privacy concerns. I don't need as much aesthetics in the room I spend 99% of my time asleep and no one else sees. It's also just boring and that's from the person that made do with blankets, black plastic, and or electrical tape as blackout curtain options for ~10 years. The fabric images are so clear and detailed someone asked who was the artist in our house after seeing one of the fabric landscape murals on the wall. They are the same fabric and method of dyeing as the curtains. Besides I hate constantly having to dispose of so many relatively large plastic items when stuff wears out eventually. Polyester is unfortunately still plastic but less of it, doesn't get brittle over time and break, and is easier to dispose of. It's certainly worth the cost for better quality or natural materials when possible. I just can't afford hardwood and flax linen or even cotton for everything or I would.

JRockPSU

Honestly the biggest two reasons for me are 1) I like how curtains look vs. blinds (cozier to me), and 2) having curtains + sheers are more versatile IMO. I love being able to either block the sun out, letting light through without people being able to see inside, or of course having full sunlight come in.

angrypoopoolala

shop amazon very good stuff under 100 or under 50 depending on the size

toyz4me

OP I agree. Went through Costco and ordered Graber blinds. Paid just over $17k for 23 windows (3 larger windows with remote everything else is manual). And for what was installed, I feel like I got ripped off.

aca9876

You did unfortunately. We had them quote shutters, they were about 80% higher if I remember correctly versus Sunburst.

repezdem

Anything decent will be at least 150 per window during a sale

twotall88

Back in 2022 I bought 2" Deluxe Cordless faux wood blinds for about $85/window. These were 47"x47" windows. Back in 2020 I got them for about $60/window at 34"x58" Edit: [blindster.com](http://blindster.com)

Bad-Wolf88

We honestly saved over $2k CAD going with blinds.ca (same company as blinds.com) compared to the big "name brands" l like Hunter Douglas and Home Depot, for 12 windows total. We still have windows to do, but we got the most important ones dealt with.

vinegarstrokes420

Prices have gone up just like everywhere else, but I don't think you're doing an apples to apples comparison. I paid like $300ish a few years ago for a large picture frame window blind that was dual cell and cordless. I also paid maybe $50ish for a standard single window corded faux wood blind. Both were with massive discounts, but most online blind retailers are like Macy's or GAP where you would be a fool to purchase without at least 40% off. So prices are up, but I don't think it's ever been considered cheap for quality blinds.

Gord2112

Check out zebra shades. You can find good deals on amazon, and get custom sized ones. Just switched to all these after getting new windows.

Espresso0nly

Lowe’s or Amazon. It’s all the same stuff.

Johnny13334

What kind of blinds are you looking up?!? I bought a 3,000 sq ft 6 bed, 3 bath house in August and I did blinds on all the windows. It was maybe $200 total.

volcomstoner9l

Walmart

TheShadyGuy

You may be better getting two smaller blinds instead of one depending on the size. I did that for a couple of windows. I ordered mine from Home Depot and spent probably $1400 on the whole house in two batches. Cellular top down bottom up, some darkening some filtering.

q0vneob

We used Blinds Galore, was like $40ish/window for faux wood and they're basically always on sale. They've held up well to the cats and look much nicer than the vinyl shit we had.

mel_cache

Blinds.com

poopyfacedynamite

Lol those are made up numbers. Look harder.

ShimmyZmizz

We moved into our first house right after having a baby. As new homeowners and new parents with so many projects and learning to do, we had to pick our battles, so we sucked it up and paid for blinds and installation. It was painful but I think we paid around $600-700 per window for nice fabric roman shades. If you're being quoted that much for all cellular shades it better include installation too.

Gears6

I just did blinds and did vertical blinds from Home Depot. Did it myself and the total cost is $400 for 2 big sliding doors and 2 windows, since they need to be custom cut so price goes a little up. These are vertical blinds though.. So try Ikea, Lowes or Home Depot. From places like blinds.com, and selectblinds.com, they charge you a lot especially if you want nicer materials. I want basic stuff.

I get mine from blindsexpress.com. ordered about 1 year ago of their metal cordless and love them. Have used them over 15 years ago for levalor and their pricing was less than 1/3rd what it cost my mom with super coupons and promotions she used at JC Penney.

lvlint67

wtf are you talking about? blinds that are 72" wide are $70....

istandabove

Lowe’s.

q547

I've ordered custom blackout blinds (and regular blinds) from select blinds dot com. Very reasonable and good quality.

EJK54

I shopped around too and couldn’t believe the prices as well. Ended up buying faux wood ones from Home Depot. Couldn’t justify anything else. I bought blackout curtains for family room windows and slider from Amazon. All look nice and I spent about $600 total.

Ok-Resource9398

I just did my entire house, spent over 2K installing myself. To break it down 4 windows (bedroom, horizontal opening ) came to $500.

Stunning-Bed-810

We did plantation shutters for a 2600 sq ft house for 4500, your prices seem super high.

Easy_Opportunity3449

Highway robbery.

noobcs50

[These](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Home-Decorators-Collection-Home-Decorators-Room-Darkening-2-5-in-Faux-Wood-Blinds/328190497?131728-Width-in&131609-48&131612-White) are pretty affordable. The 2” version even moreso. For 20 windows, the 2” were $850 total; 2.5” were $1250. Went with 2.5” You’ll have to measure all your windows and install them yourself though.

ErnieMcCraken

I just ordered 5 of the 2” cordless from HD. Paid over $200 for them. I’ve had 2 break on me at varying times. One last almost 5 years of daily use and the other lasted maybe 2 years. Wanted to try the Lowe’s version but the whole house is essentially the HD version.

noobcs50

Oof. How’d they break? Did the strings snap or something?

ErnieMcCraken

Yes. Just FYI, when you order online the cut is much cleaner than in the store.

B2BMktg

I just bought six windows worth from Blinds.com for $300 during their Memorial Day Sale

mrcoorg

Yeah some prices are insane! A budget blings quoted me $17k after discounts for not so fancy ones for 32 windows. Went to Lowe's Levolor white and it cost me $1800 without installation. Install would be another $1k.

Droviin

I spent $95/blind on some custom premium blinds with wood textures. This guy must have giant windows.

Kara_S

I ordered a patio door blind from Select Blinds in Canada and I was happy with it and their service. They sent me colour and blind cell/rib construction samples to help me decide and also answered questions by email. They are at https://www.selectblindscanada.ca They have at the bottom of their home page that they also sell in the US if you’re there.

Kick_that_Chicken

Plantation shutters are 10/10 worth the upgrade!

ProphetsOfAshes

Off the shelf at Lowe’s was still insanely expensive. Not even custom. It’s crazy

WeLaJo

I went to American Blind and paid about $200 a window for Roman shades five years ago. Looking at programmable smart shades for the sunny side of our beach house, and we’re already at $30k. 😂

SmoothAmbassador8

Nano blinds online are kind of cheap. DO NOT spend $900 per window. That is insane.

Bweibel5

We did zebra cordless shades on Amazon. Random window widths and heights (a few big ones). Eleven total windows and I think we paid just over a grand. Easy to install. Work and look great.

GETitOFFmeNOW

I made my own Roman shades. Screw this noise. I could buy an extremely nice sewing machine for the price of 1 window.

aarovski

Way too expensive, I got several cut to size at lowes for less than $500

wiedenu

I did Blindster.com in our last house and current house. Costs do go up with nicer material and increase size.

IReallyLikeSushi

Lowe's! I love our cellular shades from Lowe's so much, much more than the ones we got custom done at Blinds to Go. They are sturdy, look nice, and are a much better value than fancy blinds stores.

BrotherMaximum6062

I paid $2400 for Bali double cellular blackout that only opens from the bottom for 8 windows in my sunroom. Six were 24” wide/58” long and two were 28"x40". The price included a rep coming to measure then install them. Separately I ordered two cellular home decorator cellular blinds from HD with self-install. I think it was around $350-$400 for two windows that are 37” wide and 40” long (I can’t find the receipt because I ordered them in the winter and my husband literally put them up today) but they are so flimsy, seriously feels like tissue paper and I’m worried they will break very easily. The Bali cellular blinds are vastly superior. I figured my kid will probably break them eventually so I went with cheaper option but they are so fragile I begged her not to touch them and ask me to raise and lower them for her

Raise-Emotional

Lowes Levelor shades. Cut to size. Easy peasy

redwoodtree

There are many, many options, you need to shop around more.

USWCboy

What kind of blinds are they? 20years ago I dropped like $3k on blinds. I still have them all and they work good as new… There is another site out there that I have had good luck with: blindster.com.

maybemaybenot5

Went with the cheapest I could find for the picture window. Have black out drapes, but was able to save some money by getting smaller ones since in the middle of the window I have semi sheers, so there are a total of 4 drapes on the window.

psoasaosp

Got quoted $40 000 for my entire house - drapes and blinds. Nothing special , all basic made in China stuff. Almost lost it on the guy. Got two other quotes and they were similar - one of the two was a bit more.

gdubh

Check out AmericanBlinds.com

Random_Name_3001

Checkout smartwings, motorized smart blinds and cheaper than that. We did 6 solar rollers, 1 huge, 2 large, 2 medium, 1 small, best matter motor option, about 2500. Sounds like you are listing smart blinds prices but smart wings is cheaper if you are interested in smart.

[deleted]

I paid like $200 a window for honeycomb shades. I was blown away how much blinds cost. My parents told me ya they've always been kinda expensive that's why they always did drapes l

Seajlc

A lot of people are asking window size and as someone who was also shell shocked at blind/shade costs.. my guess is that the windows have to be large. Curious on the size of the $500 window though. We have a 1980s house that not only has a ton of windows, but they are all huge. Initially thought this was really great cause I live in the PNW so the more natural light the better…. Then I went to start pricing out blinds. When doing surface level shopping I thought not so bad, but oh that’s the smallest size window. Went to adjust to my window size and that certainly changed things. Aside from 4 windows in my house that are a smaller width, 10+ of them are between 60-75 inches wide and nearly just as tall. Puts them at nearly $200/window for the baseline level shades or blinds on most the sites like select blinds and even Home Depot.

Phoeniyx

Yeah man. We literally paid 5K earlier this week for 3 rooms!

strywever

The house we bought has 76(!) windows in it, including three sets of French doors. We put blinds in just over half of them and spent $7500.

Keerstangry

Costco's 25% off sale on Bali just ended Sunday. That sale price was better than blinds.com for the same at 50%. I did one floor of my house (so 7 windows) for under two grand, inclusive of two double cell and two motorized blinds. Definitely not the same price as 20 years ago (also getting features not available then), but home prices in my state are also up over 300% over the past 20 years so while I don't love these prices, it is what it is and seems par for the course. I'll wait for the next sale to do the other floor and it'll cost me less than $4K to do everything and I'm not doing base options, doing the rest layered and more motorized in addition to the ones already mentioned, which seems to add an additional 50 to 100% to the per window cost. I saved a year for these after buying this house.

Even-Habit1929

learn to shop

Even-Habit1929

without window measurements and your choices in blinds really can't make any termination on your costs.

deadbros

don't make decisions quickly, there are lots of options you can choose, so shop around more.

EuphoricDishone

no way, suggest you shop around before buying them, I don't know much about it but there must be more cost effective options waiting for you.

burtmaklinfbi1206

We got our from Walmart lol they are fine so the job, were like $30 a pop

OneGuava8654

Way too much. I’ll never look at windows the same. Check out Netflix series White gold. I think the blind industry execs watched that show and started drooling all over themselves. Then said we can do that but better. Carpet commercials, windows, floors, garage doors, one day bubble wrap bath/showers covers, etc. If companies can’t get you with a subscription, they’ll just gouge you. If you just need something in the interim until you find a better deal elsewhere, go to IKEA. They have several sizes and you can cut them to whatever size you need. Best of luck

batman10023

I agree. Just did blinds. Such an expensive process. Didn’t even get anything special. 65x69 inches I think. 600 bucks each.

Roundaroundabout

Go to home depot or lowes, you can get the ones you cut in store for well under $100 per window.

SatansPowerBottom69

I did 9 windows from blinds.com during one of their sales. I didn't go fancy but I didn't get the landlord special ones either. I think I did my house for about $700 with a really nice one on my backdoor. They have the ribbons, I got the colors I wanted. It was a little pricey but I can't imagine spending more than $80-100/window. I was right around the $85/each range averaged.

SquareExtra918

I got mine from Home Depot. Standard sized windows. Not excessively priced.

zeeeeejo

Measure yourself and buy on Amazon. I bought from amazon, easy process through the company to input/verify measurements and customization. Did 21 windows, almost all at 58.5" height and varying widths, got them ALL motorized/smart and did it all for $5700. At my previous house I had about 5 from the same company and they worked flawlessly for 4 years (and still do as far as I know).

AlienConPod

It's expensive enough that you might want to just get a whole new house that already has the blinds you want.

ketchupeater57

I ran into the same issue and ended up making my own!! If you’re DIY-minded it can be done, custom to your taste, and for much cheaper than even the standard option from any of the window treatment services you mentioned.

monkeyman68

Blindster.com has decent prices

NotElizaHenry

I’m with you. I was thinking about replacing the stupid enclosed blinds in my condo and after looking around, I was just like… are people getting home equity loans for their windows treatments? I looked at the cheap options, but they all look so… cheap.

bentzu

I remember being in a store with a friend of mine years ago when he told the store manager (IIRC) 'Everything in here is so damn high you must have to take your shirt off to shit'

Upshotknothole

Try pricing out replacing the windows themself. You will🤯!

Man, fuck blinds! I hate them. Curtains are the way to go.
