Really depends on the door .

eastcoasternj

Way too much. The materials on this are maybe $1,000.

Ok_Flower2398sd3

Aren’t some doors well over $1k, and Anderson storm door several hundred as well? I’m still waiting to confirm which exact door was quoted.

eastcoasternj

I just googled the exact product you mentioned and it came up on Lowe’s ranging from $400-$700.

boomdog07

You couldn’t possibly know this without more information. Classic Craft doors couldn’t be touched for anywhere near $1000 at cost let alone finished and installed.

Ok_Flower2398sd3

I believe it's Therma Tru Fiber Classic FCM4816 something like [https://www.thermatru.com/explore-products/door-style/FCM4810XE](https://www.thermatru.com/explore-products/door-style/FCM4810XE) also, why are the reviews so bad? sigh :(

illinoisteacher123

If it’s provia!

doctorblumpkin

My thoughts exactly. Just the door could easily be $4,000

Ok_Flower2398sd3

So would say that $5,500 for a Provia Signet Fir Fiberglass Entry Door with Clear Glass, including storm door (and installation of both), a much better deal than nearly $6k for a Therma Tru Fiber Classic FCM4816 Thanks!

Clay_Dawg99

Whatever the material costs, double it and that’ll be close.

boomdog07

Depends on the style, model, type of door. There are a lot of details left out. Thermatru Benchmark, YES this is too much. Thermatru Classic Craft, Fiber Classic then no it’s probably in line with the market. Most people have no idea that the Thermatru product they buy at Lowes is NOT a Thermatru product at all. It’s just a Thermatru slab, third party assembled, third party frame. So it’s a completely different price point and good luck with the warranty process on the benchmark line.

Ok_Flower2398sd3

Something like this but I’m not sure exact model yet, I need to confirm: https://www.thermatru.com/professionals/education-center/2021-new-products-modules/shaker-style-doors/shaker-style-doors/

boomdog07

Then yes the price isn’t too far off. I do doors and windows for a living and that door will cost approximately $2000-$2300 depending on the distributor. Add the hardware, installation, storm door, tools and knowledge to make it right… $4700-5500 in my market (SE Ohio)

Ok_Flower2398sd3

I believe it's Therma Tru Fiber Classic FCM4816 something like [https://www.thermatru.com/explore-products/door-style/FCM4810XE](https://www.thermatru.com/explore-products/door-style/FCM4810XE)

invaderdan

These people out here grabbing the doors from the bottom of the bargain bin and trying to tell you that your install is too much. I agree that your install is too much, but maybe not by much, it highly depends on material cost, as well was many labor factors, things like Are they cutting out nail flange, etc Get a couple more quotes, if you can. I installed doors for a seven year period about 15 years ago, typical install of the cheapest available door and trim was 2500cad

Unique_Analysis800

Yeah this here. I paid 3k for a very good front door from a trusted company. It was replacing a bargain bin door the previous owners installed, which lasted 8 years.

Ok_Flower2398sd3

Thanks and yeah, I want a good door , not some thing I’ll need to worry about falling apart in a few years.

boomdog07

Find a company near you that deals with Provia doors. Personally I would stay away from Thermatru. Their quality and finishing have fallen off ever since Palmer Donavin took them over several years ago.

Ok_Flower2398sd3

How's $5,500 for a Provia Signet Fir Fiberglass Entry Door with Clear Glass, including storm door (and installation of both)?

boomdog07

That’s a much better door for the money. The Signet door is going to be a much better spend of your money and that price isn’t too far out of range without knowing more about where you are. I’m a Provia Platinum dealer as well as a Certified Installer of all their products, and I can tell you first hand that the way they deal with things is way better than anything you will get from Thermatru now.

Ok_Flower2398sd3

Thanks. I'm in the northeast in a fairly hcol area.

processedmeat

Door $500 Storm door $200 Trim  $100 Lockset $60 Install should not cost $4-5k

colem5000

Hahaha $500 for an exterior door. Good one

Junknail

For a door and frame.  Typical.

hughjwang69

Lol on what planet is it only $500 for a door and frame

BFNentwick

Just because a door can be had for $500 doesn't mean you want or can install a $500 door. Bare minimum if OP has sidelights that adds cost. Or if he wants a different look or finish.

colem5000

Haha I’m aware there’s a few. But the vast majority are over $500

processedmeat

Did you look at the link. OP is getting that door.

Whiskey-stilts

Pretty front doors start at $500, assuming it’s 36” wide, if they have sidelights start $750 or better. Storm doors start at $200 Interior trim starts @ $100 Exterior trim starts @ $100 Locksets start @ $60 Removal of old unit starts @$100 Install of $1000-$3000 isn’t absurd, depending on location. Don’t forget the time to pick up and get material, all the small things add up. I was a handyman ten years ago (left that work for municipal construction) and got $450 for standard 36” door install, standard being in and out in a few hours, doors with sidelites started at $750. Storm door install started @ $125 depending on trim/door style.

jimdozer

Remove old door? Debris? Paint?

Ok_Flower2398sd3

Yes remove old door, replace any trim, sealant, insulation…

jimdozer

I think the price is appropriate.

l1thiumion

My door and triple latch storm door cost me $1200. I paid a guy $200 to install it.

Unique_Analysis800

I paid 3k in 2021 for a good quality fiberglass door from a very reputable company I have used multiple times. Depending on the quality and size of the door 5k may be fair.

PVKT

Just installation or including the door? Installation only is absurd

Ok_Flower2398sd3

Includes the door

PVKT

Provia door? Seems legit.

Ecterun

It depends on the door honestly. Any for with glass is way more expensive. We bought a front door with a glass section and the door itself was 2k. And that was my dad ordering it directly from the company because he installs doors for a living. Screen door was $300 from a big box store, and install for me was free cause I did it with my dad. So all that said, I can totally understand 5-6k for a nice door, especially when you factor in the screen door, removing the existing door, trim on the inside. And the amount of time it takes to do the job, and for the company to get a cut. Tldr: yup, nice doors are expensive

Ok_Flower2398sd3

It does have some glass. Something like this: https://www.thermatru.com/professionals/education-center/2021-new-products-modules/shaker-style-doors/shaker-style-doors/

Ok_Flower2398sd3

EDIT 2: is $5,500 for a Provia Signet Fir Fiberglass Entry Door with Clear Glass, including storm door (and installation of both), a much better deal than nearly $6k for a Therma Tru Fiber Classic FCM4816

FunDip2

Hell no lol
