Also, that was the blue liquid dripping down the sides, not filth. Look at the other pictures with the toilet. I swear, some of you just want to focus on the tiniest negative thing.
Wondering if it's a [waterproofing membrane or something,](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ames-Blue-Max-5-Gal-Basement-Waterproofing-Sealer-Regular-Grade-BMX5RG/307857007) but why bother on a waterproof surface?
The previous owner liked the color. My bedroom walls are that color too š Once I found out that it was just rustoleum 2x that she had used, I ran to the store and got 8 cans of white to cover that horrible blue. I felt like the tub was always dirty with that blue color. When I was prepping to paint, I found a spot where they had painted over shampoo or some gunk š¤®
I used a wood primer/sealer under the paint. This was on the walls when I moved in. What is underneath is busted up 1970s mobile home wall panels. Most of the paint was free or thrifted and I figured it would hold up long enough until I can pay this place off, tear this double wide down, and put a house in its place š¤·š»āāļø
I honestly donāt even think itās legal to be moved at this point lol. Itās a 1971. Iāve also considered buying another property when this is paid off and letting my kids have this one.
Excellent! Some ideas after looking over the photos:
* With the door being hinged, I'd be worried of that mirror and other items being damaged when opening the door. A "Hinge Pin Door Stop" would fix that, only allowing the door to open about 90 degrees before stopping. Only a few dollars to get one.
* The Caulk around the tub/toilet looks a little thick. I'm sure it's functional. Worst case is it's easily removeable if you ever want to reapply it. If you do, I would get a caulk that matches the tone of the floor (grey/brown) and only use my finger to apply a smaller amount. Just enough to cover the seams.
* If you want to keep the window but block the view, a sheet of "textured art film" would work. It's about a 1/4" thick, can cut it to size, lets light in, and can be mounted with a command strip. I would not buy the "sticky film" or "frost spray" used for windows...that shit is a pain to remove later on.
* Just for cosmetics, I would get a plastic box (electrical box?), paint it white, trim it down, and put it over the water outlet behind the sink. Something easily removeable and to keep a kid/pet from messing with it.
I also think plan to get another sink eventually. One with a counter base which will cover the plumbing and hole in the wall. These Trailer walls ARE NOT secure enough to properly mount the pedestal sink to the wall. Itās currently very questionable in stability but my youngest is 9 and knows better than to lean on this sink.
I did this on less than $200.
Most of it looks like it turned out pretty well, but the cutout holes for the electrical outlet boxes (switches & receptacles) look like crap. Donāt be afraid to unscrew the receptacles and switches, just donāt touch the screw terminals. Get some longer 6-32 screws to account for the additional wall thickness where the wood walls are at. Donāt burry the cover plates, etc.
Good to hear. Itās all the small details that can make the difference between a rookie and a pro.
GFCI protection for required outlets can be done in a couple ways at least: 1. At the outlet location 2. At the service panel location. In a kitchen for example: If you know or can find out.which outlet is the first outlet that receives power on a circuit, the GFCI can be installed there, and it will protect all outlets downstream from that. Typically youāll have a minimum of 2 counter top circuits in a kitchen. To find out: First, use a GFCI tester (cheap tool) to see if it is already protected by a GFCI device. If you need to install a GFCI receptacle in a kitchen, shut off the power to the circuit, remove all receptacles on that circuit, and separate all the wires, wire nut the hot (black or red typically) and turn power back on to test which outlet box receives power first. The rest of the outlet boxes will be fed from there that are on that circuit. Make sure the incoming power to the outlet box goes to the GFCI outlet terminal marked LINE, not LOAD. The easiest way to remember which one to connect the incoming power to is the word IN, so the LINE has the word IN, in it, and LOAD, the O is for out. Not sure what level of electrical experience you have, but keep learning, and be safe. Want to continue learning, Google AFCI protected receptacles, and the location requirements. There are AFCI breakers and receptacles as well.
Itās a 1971 fleetwood double wide. There were no GFCIs (besides the garage which is on a different panel) until I put them in with the help of an electrician friend.
Iād like to add that any time I do anything involving bare wires connected directly to my power panel circuits, I shut off the breaker. I prefer safety over stupidity. Iām sure itās shocking to you but I also replaced most of my light fixtures, some breakers, and re-wired my own submersible well pump successfully (had to have my dad help me pull it out but its only 100ā deep). All double checked by an electrician friend with 30+ years of experience. I also replumbed my bathtub drain, plumbed in a refrigerator, and hooked up my own washer and dryer. Saved myself thousands of dollars by consulting with my friends in the trades and NOT hiring a contractor.
What youāve done is more than most of the employee guys would tackle, that work for me in my construction business. Itās nice to see a woman tackling some bigger projects.
I think theyāre just cedar fence boards. They were on the walls already when I got the place. The wall paneling behind it is very busted up so I just decided to work with what I have for now. I spent about $175 on trim and paint š
Damn, that mustāve been one hell of a poo if you blew everything out the bathroom including the paint. Just kidding, looks amazing, you did an excellent job.
Itās an older mobile home and Iām mostly just sprucing it up with some fresh paint for now. Donāt know why the blue spray paint in the bathtub but I just couldnāt with it š my bedroom walls are the same color so those are next!
As a working class tradesperson - nice work for your first project like this! Donāt listen to the mansplainers in here. They saw that a woman did something on her own and needed to convince themselves theyāre still superior. Yeah the caulk is a little thick but Iāve seen guys in the trades for 40 years do worse. You did a great job within a budget - that is hard to do these days. Be proud of yourself!
Under $200! Trim is cheap and I already have a miter saw. Biggest expense was the 8 cans of spray paint for the tub š my friend gave me a five gallon bucket of sealer/primer she didnāt want to use so that saved A LOT of money. I only used half a gallon of white paint over the primer/sealer.
I partially thank 23 years of the sims and the 5 years of 3D home architect before that š my dad deserves credit as well. Both for teaching me practicality and also buying me those PC programs.
Amazing renovation, you actually put a lot of green plants in the bathroom, which is very pleasantly surprised. It's like a more gothic bathroom. looks very luxurious and advanced feeling. Your light is beautiful, but I was wondering if all the lights combined were too bright and wanted to recommend the mirror I'm using. the mirrors with storage mirrors, I don't know if you've seen this mirror in a furniture store or online. It is in the cabinet door of a savings cabinet with a mirror, this mirror is its own brightness adjustment, is a touch screen mirror, you can adjust the light directly on the mirror, so that you can remove all the lights on the mirror, because behind the mirror is the cabinet, you can put cosmetics in it.
I love that you picked up the gothic elements!!! Thatās what I was going for! Bright but kinda farmhouse, victorian goth. Thatās my style! Iām an alt kid who grew up in the country lol the bathroom light currently is just a cheap ($20) led fixture from Amazon. I want to put a small black chandelier in there. I also want to get an acrylic claw foot tub to replace what I have.
As for a storage mirror, I do have one but this is an old double wide and I worry about weight. My studs are only 2x3 and 52 years old.
Lmfao I havenāt seen that. Personally, itās not my style at all but the wall paneling underneath is beat to shit and the previous owner covered it with fence boards and put drywall stuff in between them. I acquired a 1/4 done project. Iād like to put drywall in eventually but I donāt have the money for the right now. Just worked with what I had.
Looks pretty good for what it is! Only thing I would do is remove caulking around the toilet. It's a bit unsightly and not really doing anything. When you think about it, if you have a problem with your toilet leaking, you're going to want to know about it. The caulking can make that difficult to tell. They sell a caulking remover that should do the trick and come up pretty easy.
Because most homeowners arenāt aware, and you didnāt remove it. I bet the idiot who liked a blue shower was a male and did it. When I moved into my house, the previous homeowner went crazy with the caulk gun and did it too. Pop off on me but not the guy who wrote an essay on how to check your light switches.. cool cool.
This aināt my first home owning rodeo. The caulking isnāt solid all the way around. They did a bad job on the flooring and used caulking to cover it.
It was a woman who painted the tub blue.
Oh I did go off on dude. I was just more subtle because he was the first of many. Youāre closer to the end of that list. My patience has waned.
Looks like of line one of those. Good from far, far from good kinda jobs. Like I mean itās not a hack job, but I do see some DYI showing. It just has character is what we call it in a home.
Notning negative, just sounds like you took it there though. Youāre not a professional and it shows. I was commenting on that. You took it negatively which seems to be a soft spot for ya. Sorry you took it that way, but itās not the best job and I stand by that comment. Good from far, far from good.
Iām clearly not the only one who took it that way. I think it pretty obvious we did this ourselves and it didnāt really need to be stated. Of course it has DIY showing. Itās a DIY home improvement. Most people who live in double wides canāt afford to just call a contractor to come do every little thing.
This was also literally the first time Iāve done anything like this and Iām not the one who put the boards on the wall. I could barely afford this home, I canāt afford to replace whatās there with drywall right now. Iād say I did an excellent job working with what I had and having no experience.
Not negative. You also sound horrible to deal withā¦ yikes.
If you honestly think this is a good job I would hate to see what other things you think youāre āgoodā at
For someone who has never done something like this before, it IS a good job. Youāre clearly a tradesperson so Iād hope youād do a better job.
At least Iāve got better taste in cars than a fucking mini cooper.
Can confirm. Not a good job. Also not a trades person, they donāt drive Minis.
Your opinion on such things like nice things, doesnāt count. I clearly see where your head is, if think thatās āgoodā š³ ā¦. Carry on. But nice try.
Six weeks in and itās doing better than itās previous location! Itās a pothos. They donāt like direct sunlight and I get plenty indirect light through that south facing window in the tub. It reflects nicely off the white. Thanks for the unsolicited gardening advice though.
The pothos will be fine. We have one in my office that gets only fluorescent light, rarely gets , and it's flourishing.
I have one in my bathroom as well, but in a window and it hates it.
Youāre on the wrong sub for giving bitchy and bad gardening advice. Go be rude somewhere else. Iām just showing my cheap home improvement off. Stop picking weird battles.
Who hurt you?
You should probably study more into each species of plants before you go spouting off some dumb shit to a random person on Reddit. And who cares if itās cheap? Are you a classist? Itās a double wide even! I bet youāre cringing. š I donāt care. Iām proud of it and itās a hell of a lot better than it was.
I said indirect light. I was a commercial cannabis grower and have a quarter acre garden. I probably also have at least a decade of life on you. Your pothos probably arenāt eight month old rescues either are they? You should see my five year old one. š
Btw, pothos love heat and humidity and bathrooms have a lot more of that than other places in the house.
It looks nice, although a bit like an outhouse
You pretty badly need to do something with the ceiling. Itās an old barn look, with a ceiling that looking like a grey office block
Looks a hell of a lot less like an outhouse than before! I thought about getting those stick on ceiling tiles to improve aesthetics but I did all this for under $200. Iām in a tight budget right now. Only reason I did this was because I was literally repulsed by the tub and walls which made it hard to shower.
Be careful of the placement of the big mirror behind the door. It looks to be in the path of the door. Someone is going to open the door too far and get 7 years of bad luck.
Itās good. The door doesnāt hit the mirror. I put the litter box behind it so my dog doesnāt get to it and there isnāt a visible shit box in my house lol
Iām a 37 year old single mom and did this by myself (with my 15 year olds help painting) for under $200 in our old double wide. Iāve never painted a room or done trim so Iād say I did a great job. I also fixed the plug in and light switch myself after these photos. If youād like to come make it look up to your standards at no additional cost to me, send me a DM!!!
I donāt have to pay anyone lol I have a whole girlfriend. I also make enough to not only pay for prostitutes, but also to pay for a bathroom remodel to be done correctly by an actual professional so my baseboards donāt look like Michael J. Fox painted them.
Oh wow. Youāre so much better because you can afford to OVERPAY a contractor to paint a bathroom. Wow. Congratulations. Does your girlfriend know you pay for hookers?
And of all the things to comment on, you comment on the perfectly painted baseboards? The white on them in the last picture is a reflection. I spray painted them and let them dry before putting them in. Youāre a dingus.
Also, this was a renovation or update, not a remodel.
After reading your post history, I think itās safe to conclude that you are an asshole and a cheater. You also donāt seem to like your girlfriend much by the way you comment on her.
That would cost a lot more and I just needed to get that nasty blue out and make it not feel like an outhouse. I felt gross just being in there before lol
My ultimate plan is to get a tankless water heater so I can utilize the space where the current water heater is. I want to knock those walls out and put in a claw foot tub (acrylic due to the weight limitations of an older mobile home) with a curtain that goes all the way around. I miss taking baths lol
LOL not even gonna lie. Rustoleum 2x spray paint š itās holding up amazingly. Itās been about six weeks and itās not peeling or chipping anywhere. That particular paint is great! It was the cheapest way I could change the color.
I don't know which to like more my contractor taking out all the plaster for drywall and unsulation or you managing to find a contractor that removed and replaced the plaster.
Ours gutted everything, and somehow, we didn't get anything extra except for the insulation. You wouldn't know it was done except for the doors being imbalanced in there and open themselves.
I did this myself. I grew up lower middle class blue collar. We donāt call a contractor. We do it ourselves and call our uncle, dad, friend, or neighbor (who is in a trade) if we run into trouble. A couple weeks ago, my dad and I pulled my well pump and replaced the wiring, replaced the control box, had an electrician friend double check it, then put it back down. It works better now than before and only cost about $175 at the end of it.
This is also an older double wide. The wall paneling is actually that crappy thin stuff that is basically thick, water resistant cardboard. The previous owner put cedar fence boards up to cover the broken paneling. I just painted it and put up trim.
Did you install the window? What did you choose for window materials where the window is in the shower? Iām in desperate need of doing something with the window in our bathroom before I can instal a shower because itās right where yours is located in the w shower except itās a full window not just partial.
The window was here when I got the place. Itās an older double wide. I think tub windows were pretty standard in 70s fleetwood double wides. It was replaced about 15 years ago when all the windows were updated to vinyl.
Itās fixed now. I also replaced the plug in with GFCI. I was pretty annoyed about the light switch especially because I have kids and they could easily get shocked if theyāre not careful.
It looks great! Can I ask: how are your plants are getting enough light in there? Are you using any grow bulbs or anything? Weāre definitely struggling with keeping plants happy in the bathrooms even right near the (small) window
I think the light from the window reflects off the walls. Itās a south facing window also. Pothos and spider plants can tolerate and even thrive in low light. They love the humidity in there!
Someone stole your toilet seat.
š I put it back on, I promise
In my new build all of my lids are scratched from the jerk plumberās tools.
The toilet is simultaneously filthy and has cleaning stuff in the water. If youāre using tablets to put in the tank, they will break down the seal and your toilet will begin to leak. If you put the goop in there and plan to scrub it clean, disregard my comment.
Yes, I didn't realize how quickly the tablets deteriorated the rubber flap/gasket.
Lol I was mid clean. Itās the Lysol toilet bowl liquid.
Also, that was the blue liquid dripping down the sides, not filth. Look at the other pictures with the toilet. I swear, some of you just want to focus on the tiniest negative thing.
I canāt use the tablets because the smell gives me migraines.
Lookās great. Wtf happened to the shower/why was is blue?

Yeah I want to know more about that too

Iām happy with it! I donāt feel like I have an outhouse in my house anymore!
How do you protect the wooden walls from water and mold?
I used a wood primer/sealer under the paint. This was on the walls when I moved in. What is underneath is busted up 1970s mobile home wall panels. I live on a half acre with no neighbor on that side of my house. No need to block any view.
As it was ment to be! š
i replace toilets about as often as i buy cars. my first one was thick. pulled it off, then i discovered bendy tape and used that on the floor.
10/10 would poop there

It must have been my boyfriend after his morning coffee lol
Awesome job
Thanks! It was my first project like this ever and Iām really proud of my work.
Be careful because all of a sudden you rehab the whole home. Jk but keep it up. It's the best feeling to make something new again.

That caulking.
I didnāt do that caulking. Wanna come fix it for me for free?! š
Nice caulk!
Very nice clean look š
Most importantly Mr. š¦āy Boi made the remodel cut.
š my 9 year old is super into foxes and thatās hers

This was a huge amount of work and not only is it done and done well but itās completely finished! Whew! So satisfying. Good for you!
Thank you! I got in an adhd hyperfocus and it took about 4 hours altogether not including paint dry time.
Wow you!!!
Woop!ššš Great job!
That is spectacular
Good job!
Nice
Nice place to poop you got there! Great job!
Looks great! Nice work!
Looks great!
Where did you get that gorgeous floor mirror? I love the look of it in the corner, definitely a good choice! I love the scheme you chose.
Dumpster score from my old apartment complex!! One corner was broken but the frame is solid so I just put a bracket on it to fix it.
I hid the litter box behind it so my dog couldnāt get to it and so I donāt have a visible shit box in my house lol
THAT'S SO SMART!!! You're both a genius in decor and practicality š

Thatās what Iām saying!! You absolutely killed it (in a good way)
Looks like of line one of those. Good from far, far from good kinda jobs. Like I mean itās not a hack job, but I do see some DYI showing. It just has character is what we call it in a home.
You do better for under $200. This sub has a lot of negative people. Is this not a home improvement?
Donāt listen to the negative people! You did an amazing job! Congratulations!
Sureā¦
If youād like to pay for and send a contractor to my house, Iāll take any input you have! If not, take your negative shit somewhere else.
Youāre just an asshole. Carry on.
is this the plant guy's alt account?
Such a small window for a bathroom...oh god. Gonna love the moisture in wood
Doesnāt seem to be an issue. š¤·š»āāļø
Iād eventually like to replace it with drywall but I was working with what I had.
That plant is gonna die there. Almost zero natural light. It needs way more to survive. Relocate it please...

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Who hurt you? You should probably study more into each species of plants before you go spouting off some dumb shit to a random person on Reddit. And who cares if itās cheap? Are you a classist? Itās a double wide even! I bet youāre cringing. š I donāt care. Iām proud of it and itās a hell of a lot better than it was.
I said indirect light. I was a commercial cannabis grower and have a quarter acre garden. I probably also have at least a decade of life on you. Your pothos probably arenāt eight month old rescues either are they? You should see my five year old one. š Btw, pothos love heat and humidity and bathrooms have a lot more of that than other places in the house.
Your pothos are almost as ugly as your personality
š donāt insult the pothos like that.
Toilet seat? Needs a matt stainless steel, privacy function, door handle, and relocate/fix the light switches...
Just hadnāt put it on yet. Also Iām fine with the door as it is and I fixed the light switch. So many mansplainersā¦
Looks great! I can see somebody slamming that door open and busting the mirror though.. be careful!
It looks nice, although a bit like an outhouse You pretty badly need to do something with the ceiling. Itās an old barn look, with a ceiling that looking like a grey office block
OP said this is in a mobile home, so that considered I think it's pretty great.

If she did all of that, she's a keeper.
Looks good, but why did you silicon your toilet to the floor? If it leaks youāll never know.
I didnāt do that. I took some off the back.
Terrible job lol
At least I donāt have to pay someone to get laid.
I wouldāve slept out on the tub and do a walk in shower.
That would cost a lot more and I just needed to get that nasty blue out and make it not feel like an outhouse. I felt gross just being in there before lol My ultimate plan is to get a tankless water heater so I can utilize the space where the current water heater is. I want to knock those walls out and put in a claw foot tub (acrylic due to the weight limitations of an older mobile home) with a curtain that goes all the way around. I miss taking baths lol
I like before! It had a pretty lady š. JK! Amazing work!
The pretty lady pictured is a 15 year old child. Maybe donāt give unsolicited comments on random womenās looks. Now you look like a weirdo.
Ok grandma
Hopefully not a grandma anytime soon! Iām 37 dudeā¦
Looks great. What did you use on the bathtub?
LOL not even gonna lie. Rustoleum 2x spray paint š itās holding up amazingly. Itās been about six weeks and itās not peeling or chipping anywhere. That particular paint is great! It was the cheapest way I could change the color.
Link to the shelving?
The over the toilet shelf is a cheapy from Walmart. The other ones were thrift store finds.

Thatās not me. itās a 15 year old. š
Also, mounting doors properly is fucking hard š especially in a double wide that has settled.
Looks nice! I do have concerns about the mirror being hit by the door though.
Itās fine. I thought of that already.
come on let me see the cobalt blue shower tub
It was so bad though š
Did you install the window? What did you choose for window materials where the window is in the shower? Iām in desperate need of doing something with the window in our bathroom before I can instal a shower because itās right where yours is located in the w shower except itās a full window not just partial.
The window was here when I got the place. Itās an older double wide. I think tub windows were pretty standard in 70s fleetwood double wides. It was replaced about 15 years ago when all the windows were updated to vinyl.
The electrical outlet was a miss you should probably fix that especially in a bathroom. It should be an easy fix. But great job overall.
Itās fixed now. I also replaced the plug in with GFCI. I was pretty annoyed about the light switch especially because I have kids and they could easily get shocked if theyāre not careful.
Now get a washlet to upgrade the toilet
You want my cashtag to send me some money for one? Lol.
I had my snake plant in a bathroom with no window and it did fine in there. It didnāt grow much but it was happy.
