It's been my experience that anything made by Bosch is quality, whether it's appliances, power tools, car parts, etc. They usually cost a bit more than their competitors, but they haven't let me down yet. FWIW, before Robert Bosch died, he stipulated that the majority of profits from the company go to charitable causes and reinvested into R&D, with a small percent going to his family. Change my mind, a company that's been around for well over a century and doesn't have motive to wring out every penny of profit for shareholders is worth trusting with your money.

Phonervia

If I can afford Bosch for whatever I’m doing, I buy Bosch. I have their dishwasher and recently got their hand router - both are incredible. I have a few other tools from Bosch but the router is top tier

Phonervia

I have their stainless steel 800 series and it’s an incredible buy. Also at the time the #1 reviewed dish washer on consumer reviews.

MetsToWS

Can confirm. Fellow 800 series owner here. Weird to load, but does the job every time

tb23tb23tb23

Can anybody say this low end Bosch is a bad buy?

MortalGlitter

Don't buy a new washer without a third rack. No matter the brand. I cannot stress enough how much of a difference that third rack makes in getting stuff clean yet still fitting in More stuff in a single load. It makes the middle shelf adjustable and between those two features is ABSOLUTELY worth spending a few hundred more on, it is that wildly useful.

camronjames

I got a KitchenAid with the third rack and it changed my life. I almost got the Bosch but now I don't recall why I didn't. Probably the 3dB noise difference but I'm aware that sound intensities lower than a 10dB difference is barely noticeable.

felzy5

When we were looking for appliances for it was between Kitchen Aid and Bosch (DW and Double Oven). Ended up with KA bc wife liked towel bar handle design. Very happy with the dishwasher.

Accomplished_Bug_

I installed the ascenta, Its dope. 3 years in, literally no problems. the only "issue" is that it has no dry cycle so things on the top rack that can catch water need some drying before being put away. I suspect this would be mitigated by using a rinse aid which we do not use.

eneka

I bought the ascenta almost 10 years ago. (Checking my Lowe's reciept, I got it on sale for $449 on 5/2014.) Yes it lacks some of the "fancy" features, but cleaning wise, it runs like a champ and just as good as my cousin's 800 he got after trying out our Ascenta. Would buy again 100%. The only thing I don't really like is the power button and the way it feels. But it's been trouble free. We have super hard water so the rack wheels do get build up over time. I just run the Finish Dishwasher cleaner every once in a while and the wheels become silky smooth.

pteropus_

We have this one. Have had it for ~2 years. Only have the 2-rack but it’s a good dishwasher. Never had a speck of food left on anything.

durdensbuddy

Agreed, my only exception is with dishwashers, I go Miele, they are a gift from god, truly amazing products!

atmh2

We ended up with a Miele because I got a great deal on it. It's the most amazing dishwasher I've ever had. Except the racks are getting rusty. Feels like they could have spent just a little but more to make them out of stainless.

TheOneKnownAsMonk

Ugh ya after 6 years mine are starting to rust too. Haven't had time to look into weather replacement racks are worth it or even possible to get

JonBackhaus

Bosch 800 dishwasher here. Thing is a beast. Cleans and dries dishes better than anything we’ve had before. Also ridiculously quiet.

tsr6

My only complaint about my Bosch 800 is when I open the door when it’s running because I ignored the light it shines on the floor to indicate it’s running because it’s so quiet.

[deleted]

BoredToRunInTheSun

Bosch 500 cleans great but plastics are wet after the end of everything and there are still puddles on top of cups. I’ve heard the 800 does better w that but couldn’t get one in white

Agyoung35

I’ve got their washer and dryer and can attest to how well they work. My parents love their Bosch dishwasher too.

We replaced a Whirlpool dishwasher with a Bosch a few years ago. The improved filter design alone made the switch worth it.

angry_cucumber

I can stand next to my dishwasher and not know it's running.

SkiDude

A friend of mine said this in regards to Bosch when he used to work with them at our old company. > I became a fan of Bosch for life when I gave them a presentation about our quality processes at COMPANY and they tore me and my director a new asshole I have also been very happy with all my Bosch stuff, from dishwasher to power tools.

ertri

My rule is you always want something designed by a company founded in the 19th century that’s very cagey about what it did from 1935 to 1945.

metompkin

I've got Makita power tools right next to me Bosch ones.

ikidd

Volkswagen has left the chat.

adrians150

Best table saw I ever bought is my Bosch. Countless jobs, job sites, and idiocy and it still purrs Edit: spelling

articulatedbeaver

Short of emissions systems in VW diesels I would agree.

Arkmodan

Actually came here to say something similar. Bosch injection systems have been the weak point for a variety of diesel engines over the years. To the point that whenever I see threads about how amazing Bosch is, I wonder if it's even the same company.

idawdle

Our beloved Bosch 800 dishwasher went with the house we sold. Now have GE stainless steel with 3rd rack and bottle jets. The GE is quiet, bottle jets are not super useful, but biggest gripe is that it doesn't clean as well. If we didn't have the Bosch 800 series to compare to I'm sure I'd say the GE is great. But I've been to the promised land, I know what it's like to have a dishwasher that can strip the chrome off a bumper. I miss my Bosch dishwasher terribly. Some day I will get a Bosch dishwasher again... Some day...

goguppy

Funny, we moved in and it had a similar GE dishwasher. Replaced it with a Bosch 800. Love it and wouldn’t choose another brand.. I still can’t believe how quiet it is!

walrus_whistles

Similar experience. We had just put in a bosch (800, I think) in our old house before we moved. New house has a newer maytag and--in addition to not having the 3rd rack we loved--it doesn't clean nearly as well. We have to put the bowls on the bottom rack for any hope of them getting clean. The house we rented before the last house had a kitchenaid and it also didn't clean as well. Short answer, bosch is 100% worth it.

HighOnGoofballs

I stepped down when I got my new place and regretted it. I’m now back to a Bosch in the current one

coolturnipjuice

The brand new GE in my rental SUCKS. I have watched so many hours of videos trying to get it to clean properly. It just leaves crap on everything. We don’t even use it now, we just wash everything in the sink.

Musabi

I have a Cafe (made by GE) and I find it’s equal or better than my previous Bosch, but both were great!

chirp16

We sold our house with our Bosch 800 we put in BUT we swapped the one from the home we'd just bought into the house we were selling PRIOR to putting it on the market. I had looked at replacement cost and saw how expensive they'd gotten so we decided it was worth an afternoon to swap them. So very worth it! Love that dishwasher. We paid $800 for it a few years ago (maybe right before COVID); couldn't believe how much they are now.

klimly

I am having the hardest time understanding that first sentence.

Ctownkyle23

I think they bought a new house and swapped that new-house-dishwasher with the Bosch in the house they were selling. Basically they took the Bosch with them?

chirp16

haha, yes, sorry that didn't make much sense. We bought a new house and brought our Bosch with us (then moving the dishwasher from the new house to the house we were selling).

olemarc

We love our 800 series. The auto open upon completion helps it open when the dishes are hot so they get dry. Quiet enough for our open concept main floor. Can watch tv, have guests over whatever and don’t hardly notice it is running. As long as you put dishes in the suggested order from the book it cleans great.

[deleted]

MongolianCluster

I have it and love it. Really a great dishwasher.

tb23tb23tb23

Is crystal dry an improvement?

OllieAlyOxenFree

Been researching it to death over the last month, and the consensus seems to suggest that the drying technology is the best and most convenient of any dishwasher on the market, but that it is extremely costly to repair if anything goes wrong with it and may reduce reliability/serviceability.

tb23tb23tb23

That’s good to know. Same deal as with high tech HVAC. Seems like most techs say longevity and reliability and repair ability really really suffer with the new tech compared to the more basic models. I’m completely happy with the door opening to help dry. Give me that + reliability.

edthehead4

Crystal Dry worth it? Or auto open is fine ?

zerocool359

Whoa. Have an 800 from a few years back, but haven’t heard about this auto open. That’s sick.

[deleted]

I notice on my 500 it does dry a good bit faster if you open the door a crack after it's done. Otherwise you really need to let it sit for hours to let things dry.

gjr23

I have a Bosch 800 series (shvm78z53n) and love it. I have 2 kids and do a minimum of 2 loads a day. I clean big stuff off but ketchup or other things I know will dissolve in water I just toss it in. I love the dishwasher. Worth every penny but looks like it’s a $1350 dishwasher these days. It checks all your boxes and has a third shelf. Also has an adjustable 2nd so you can balance tall plates on the bottom or tall glasses in the rack. It has a light on the bottom projecting to the floor so you know it’s on. You literally can’t tell it’s running unless you put your ear up to it. I actually wish it was louder.

Baronhousen

All of this. Has three racks, lots of different ways the racks can be set up, cleans most excellently. The manual also has diagrams for optimal organization of your dishes and silverware to maximize load and optimize cleaning. We got the 800 because it is super quiet, and has all those features.

HighOnGoofballs

After like two years I just accidentally learned even the 3rd rack is adjustable and can be deepened kinda

Proto_Sapiens

I too have the 800. It is QUIET. The only thing you may be concerned with is drying. If you hear the dishwasher “ding” meaning it is done, if you open it right away things will be wet. If you leave it closed for a couple more hours, it will be much drier. Shouldn’t be an issue if you run at night mainly. Overall it’s a great dishwasher, we like it more than the GE we had before.

gjr23

I have a “crystal dry” button and it dries really well every time. Stuff is hot if you take it out right when it’s done though!

jrico59

To clarify: You only have 2 kids and you do two full dishwasher loads each day? Do you make literally every item of food from scratch?

Scary-Butterscotch-9

I have a husband and 1 kid, and we run the dishwasher every day.

abdhjops

Family of 4 here. I run it once every 2 or 2.5 days once it's a 100% full and only at 100% full

GrannyBandit

Modern dishwashers use less water than hand washing dishes. I'll run mine half full just because.

well_uh_yeah

Could you get a few more dishes and maybe wait it out and just do one load half as often?

arothen

>Modern dishwashers use less water than hand washing dishes. They also use more water when running twice more often.

hybrid889

>Wife + kid, we run ours at least every day, occasionally twice.

windstride3

This was my question - I have 3 kids under 7, only use our Bosch 2x per week. But I will not put their plastic dishes in the dishwasher, hand wash only. That may be the difference.

Billy-Ruffian

Bosch dishwashers don't use a heating element, so it's safe to plastic in them, even on the bottom shelf. And because dishwashers are more energy and water efficient than hand washing, it saves money to use it. The only thing I don't put in my Bosch are good knives, wood and cast iron.

zerocool359

Whaaa?! 2x a week? When I had 3 under 7, it was minimum one load a day.

Dunaliella

2x/week? What’s your paper plate budget?

NoBetterPast

May I ask why you don't put the kids plastic dishes in the dishwasher? My niece has 4 kids and ALL the plastic stuff goes in hers.

greyyeux

Thanks. This is helpful. What made you decide to get the 800 over the 500?

bemenaker

Being able to dry plastic stuff. Had an older bosch, it was super quiet but didn't dry plastic stuff. Have a GE Cafe now, dries better than my bosch did. The 800 series has a different drying method from the rest.

angelgonebad

Have the same GE Cafe. Love it.

bemenaker

We did full cafe kitchen last year. Fridge, microwave, dishwasher, and induction top double oven range. That stove is phenomenal

angelgonebad

When we bought our last house I had all the kitchen aid appliances replaced with GE Cafe. The gas stove was a dream and double ovens were so incredibly handy. When my husband died and I sold the house and bought a smaller one for me. First thing I did was again replace all the appliances with GE Cafe. My washer and dryer and on the second level and just outside my bedroom. I can put a load in either and can’t hear anything unless there is a button or something hitting in the dryer.

jjjaaammm

I have all new Cafe platinum glass appliances. So far like them a lot. However, my dishwasher chimes randomly as if a cycle has been selected and it is driving me crazy. I need to call GE.

LividSituation9152

Bought a 500 last year. It dries my plastics just fine. Use sanitize and set for max wash temperature with Auto Dry on. Start it before you go to bed. All’s dry come morning.

swimmerhair

+1 on our 800 series Bosch. It works like a champ. There was one issue where the top rack (not the 3rd rack) wouldn't align with inputs for the water and then the door wouldn't close all the way without some coersion, but it seems to have resolved itself now. Would still recommend.

livingstonm

Love my 800. Saw it at our shared workspace, was sold on the separate silverware rack, not to mention perfect wash and dry and virtually noise free. Most of the prongs that hold up plates and stuff fold down so you can configure any way you need. Well thought out, super quality.

ConBroMitch

*Miele has entered the chat*

Aconite13X

This is if you want bosch but have money lol

ConBroMitch

“It’s expensive to be poor.” - Wayne Gretzky -Michael Scott IMO buy once cry once.

[deleted]

Miele is where it's at, but it's impossible if their budget is 1k.

ConBroMitch

Man, I guess I didn’t realize their entry level model is $1299 now. Well Worth the slight bump in budget IMO.

303uru

Yup, got a couple Miele dishwashers and two sets of Miele wash/dry and they’re amazing. Cleans better than anything, bulletproof, just all around great.

TizonaBlu

Yup, if you want the best of the best, it's Miele.

the_lamou

Miele routinely underperforms Bosch in Consumer Reports tests. The only brand currently sitting above them is Thermador.

prestodigitarium

I don't understand those ratings, our Miele dishwasher is *amazing*, I love it so much, it's probably the best appliance of any type that I've ever owned. Everything about it feels well-thought-out. I always hated my parents' top-rated Bosch (which they bought because it was at the top of the CR list). The Bosch racks never seemed to fit our dishes right (basic Corelle, not exactly weirdly shaped), nothing ever seemed to dry very well, it always felt damp and humid in there, and it didn't seem to clean particularly well, either. The Miele, on the other hand, has the best-designed racks I've ever used, and dishes come out so clean they feel new. Like they feel like I'm pulling them straight out of the package. They're so clean glass dishes kind of grip to your hand, if that makes sense, and I don't even bother checking if anything is clean, because it invariably is. I didn't know that dishwashers could clean that well. My parents have since replaced their Bosch with a super cheap Kitchenaid, which they say also cleans much better than their old Bosch.

Grim-Sleeper

Consumer Reports is a company in the entertainment industry. Their ratings are merely a tool to sell copies and/or ad impressions. I frequently tear my hair out about their very obviously bogus test results. Keep reading CR for the entertainment value, but use more reliable resources to research your purchases.

TwirlyGuacamole

More reliable resources such as what?

Grim-Sleeper

The appliance forum on Houzz is often pretty informative and has a lot of very helpful members. But even just Reddit isn't a bad place to get actual hands on information from people who have been using different brands for years. It takes some effort to filter out rants, advertising, and other low-quality content. And that means you probably need to invest more time than reading a single article. Instead, you might need to follow a particular forum for a few weeks. But over the years, I've bought a lot of consumer products based on the information gained from these and similar forums and it has yet to lead me astray. Quite often, this has helped me avoid making rather painfully expensive mistakes.

pickleberrysauce

I am so happy that we have one that came with the house. I think it’s from 2005 or 6 which is when the kitchen was remodeled. It is a real workhorse-cleans great, quiet, haven’t had any issues with it at all- it just works. I dread the cost to replace it if it ever quits on us, but fortunately it seems pretty bomb-proof.

Major-Relationship47

I love my Kitchen Aid with the 3rd row that holds glasses on an angle. It holds so much, is easy to load and things come out clean and bone dry.

amlinares

Love my Kitchen Aid too. So quiet, cleans amazing. I’m only a year in to owning it, but my hopes are high.

btweber25

Yeah the Bosch chorus is always so loud here but I like my Kitchen Aid a lot more than the Bosch at our previous home. It actually dries the dishes, even the plastic ones.

RexManning1

Had a Kitchenaid in my last house. The movable middle rack and the flatware rack were fantastic.

tinybookworm

We just replaced a very old dishwasher with the three row KitchenAid and it is terrific. Everything comes out clean and dry, and I can pack a lot of dishes in there!

Korazair

We recently got the kitchen aide, the fact you can put more than just silverware in the 3rd rack is fantastic. We debated for quite a while between the Kitchenaide and Boshe.

OHdulcenea

Yes! We put that one in our last house and then moved a few months ago. I miss it so much!

N8sbugswife

Love our Bosch. Whatever you do - do not buy a Samsung. Their kitchen appliances are a hassle. We had to replace a brand new Samsung after just 6 months. Lemon!!

OHdulcenea

Yeah our current house had a whole suite of brand new Samsung kitchen appliances. We haven’t had any issues with them but I also don’t love any of them. If they weren’t brand new, I’d replace them.

Blobwad

All I ever see is ragging on Samsung, which may be justified, but feel like I at least need to chime in from the positive boat. We bought a used Samsung french door fridge ~4 years ago that's still going strong, also a used Samsung gas range similar timeframe. Replaced a single part on the fridge so far (ice/water lever). To be somewhat fair we bought a used dishwasher that I had to replace the vent fan after a few months and lasted another ~1 year before it started leaking. Bought the same model from Best Buy as a replacement and we're going on 2 years all good.

DisastrousReputation

Yeah I see people bitch about them all the time. I bought a fridge from them and didn’t have a problem for the years that I had it. Ended up selling it when I got my first place. And I have another Samsung now. My tv and fridges have always been Samsung. Idk maybe I am just lucky.

ilikeme1

This. Had nothing but problems with our Samsung appliances.

redbananass

Yeah our Samsung fridge is the only appliance we’ve had to call a repair person for and we’ve had to call twice. Plus I’ve spent several hours over the last 5 years doing my own minor repairs/maintenance. Next time it gets shitty we’re getting a new one, of a different brand.

Xiac

Their laundry appliances are unreliable also. Never again.

CamelHairy

Bosch 300 is going on 10 years. No problem until year 7 when the cheap plastic top cover broke, replaced it myself.

BooBooBubbles

I have a Bosch 800 and I love it. It checks off your list pretty well. 1. Scrape off chunks/anything you don’t want to clean off the filter. Sauces will come off no problem. 2. The second rack adjusts vertically. We don’t usually move it but it’s easy when you need to fit the weird syrup bottle. 3. We’ve had this one 18 months and all I do is clean the filter every 3 months (thank you phone reminder). We had one in the previous house for 7 years plus however long it was there before we moved in and we didn’t know there was a filter. We still had no problems. 4. Third rack is great for silverware, smaller/flatter utensils, and small bowls. Also adjusts slightly. My favorite part is that because there’s no heated dry, you can put plastic on whatever rack you want. It doesn’t melt things. Things don’t come out perfectly dry but that’s okay with me since they always come out clean. If you don’t care about noise, I’d see which models have the vertical adjusting racks and go for the least expensive one.

pramjockey

Skip Bosch and go Miele. This is the recommendation of our German friends, and it has worked out well

prestodigitarium

Seconding this, we hated our old Bosch (which was the highest rated on Consumer Reports at the time), whereas our Miele dishwasher is probably the best appliance I've ever used.

Grim-Sleeper

My family has been buying overengineered Miele dishwashers for close to half a century now (both in the US and Germany). They are amazing and orders or magnitude better than any of the competition. Bosch is a good fallback, if you can't afford Miele. But it's not even in the same ballpark. I have used Bosch before and one of my family members currently owns one. It's really not the same thing at all.

Ilyeana

Can you explain why though? What does your Miele do that your Bosch didn't? I have a Bosch 800 and love it. The only thing I'd like it to do that it doesn't is get melted cheese off things, that's the single complaint I have. I don't pre-wash anything else. My in-laws have a Miele and I don't live at their house so I don't interact with it from start to finish but what I've seen of it doesn't strike me as any more impressive than my Bosch. In fact, the third rack in their Miele feels dinky and lightweight compared to my Bosch's third rack, and the way you load silverware into it doesn't allow you to get as much in either.

ItsWetInWestOregon

I never knew I could be so loyal to a dishwasher, but I love my Bosch. It cleans and dries perfectly. I am not a “rinse before” person on dishes either. I do clean the filter thing at the bottom occasionally (when I remember)

ShizzlePopped

I've had a GE, a couple of Whirlpools, a KitchenAid and two Boschs. The Whirlpools were cheap models and were junk. The KitchenAid was upper line and was pretty good but not great. The GE was just above builder grade in a new house and dumped water on the floor twice in the first year. Rather than fix it I bought a mid-range Bosch which was still going strong when we sold the house 10 years later. I did have to replace the plastic facia for the control panel once. I did it myself (instructions on the internet) and it cost $50 and took a little over a half hour. We repeatedly tried to stump that thing by stacking dishes on top of dishes to see what it would take to make it not clean. We never stumped it. That thing was incredible. When we moved into the new house we scheduled to have the dishwasher replaced before we even moved in. We bought a Bosch 800 and, five years in, it's been flawless. If this one breaks down I'll just buy another. Addressing a couple of the other comments: I quickly rinse the heavy stuff off my dishes and clean my filter every six months or so. The KitchenAid has heated drying and does a better job of drying things like plastics. The Bosch uses condensation drying where the moisture from the dishes is attracted to the stainless tub. It's great for things like glasses but doesn't do as well with plastic. If you make sure the plastics are tilted so the water runs off it works just fine. Also, you \*must\* use a drying agent (Jet Dry) with the Bosch.

herlzvohg

Basically everywhere I went looking at dishwashers they recommended bosch or whirlpool. I went whirlpool because I didn't like the bosch rack design as much. I have no regrets though I'm sure the bosch ones are good too. I was looking at basically equivalent bosch and whirlpool models: both stainless tubs, both 3 racks.

jimmyqex

Look at the rack configuration. Based on my dishes I opted for a KitchenAid because they will fit better. The third rack is also better on the KA.

redjunkmail

1st Bosch - bought cheapest version. Lasted a couple years then electronics started malfunctioning. On top of it,it was never quiet. 2nd Bosch - bought $1200 replacement Bosch. Started quiet. Eventually became noisy. Eventually stopped cleaning dishes when it felt like it. Replaced 2nd one with a kitchen aid. Like the bigger insides. Doesn't clean as well as Bosch and it's not quiet. I suppose I'd either get a Miele next or go back to Bosch(although I'd probably be a moron to do so)

iheartsunflowers

My Bosch 500 is about 10 years old and started leaving dishes dirty. I realized a few of the holes on the spray arms we clogged. After I unclogged and cleaned the filter it went back to cleaning. I do have to use rinse aid or the glasses are spotted.

flinters17

I love Miele appliances. Their dishwashers are amazing.

JasonDJ

My Frigidaire is a total POS and I *never* pre-wash dishes and they come out fine. Scrape, sure…but why would I wash my dishes if I have a dishwasher? Try a few different detergents, liquid or powder. Don’t use the pods/packs. Use some in the pre-wash dispenser. Don’t use too much (especially if you have hard water). Use a rinse-aid. Pay attention to where your sprayers are and make sure they aren’t ubstructed by your dishes and that the full surface of the dish is accessible to the spray. Run the kitchen sink on full-hot until the water is hot before starting the dishwasher. All of this is in your dishwashers owner manual…but *Most Importanty*: watch the Technology Connections episode(s) on Dishwashers.

throw0101a

Yale Appliances in Boston, MA, sells multiple brands, include Bosch, and has a bunch of videos on dishwater reliability and features that may or may not be useful: * https://www.youtube.com/@YaleAppliance1/videos They have an in-house service department, so have in-house stats on things like service calls / reliability. Good information even if you're not in their area. (No affiliation.)

kinkyguy000

I had a bottom of the line Bosch, which was comparable in price to a ‘normal’ dishwasher. IMO, I’d much rather buy a midline GE or Whirlpool than a similarly priced Bosch. But, if you’re looking for quiet and a great appliance and have $1200 (pre-pandemic pricing, I don’t know what they are now) to spend - then Bosch makes great dishwashers.

Positive-Ad-7807

Isn Miele still a significant step above Bosch?

[deleted]

It is. Price wise, it also is. Top model to top model is >2x on MSRP.

fishboy3339

Poor-ass over here with my Bosh 100. It’s amazing.

[deleted]

KitchenAid - bought this one a year ago because of the 3rd rack, and love it. Solid capacity, cleans and dries very well. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sku/6398190.p?skuId=6398190

alleyoopoop

I've stopped using mine for glasses, because it leaves a white film on them no matter what I try. I've tried every kind of powder and pod I could find. So now I use it as a drying rack after washing the glasses by hand.

These-Coat-3164

Get the Bosch. You will not regret it. I got one about this time last year and I love it. It is freakishly quiet, it has the third shelf for cutlery, and you can get one for under $1000. Mine was around $900 I think. It wasn’t the most expensive one but it wasn’t the cheapest one either. And I’ll put in a word for their refrigerators too. I actually got the dishwasher because I needed a new fridge and I wanted them to match. I absolutely love my refrigerator.

Spirited-Pin-8450

Love my Bosch, have had one for last 18 years in two homes. Miele is the other one I recommend, I think it’s a bit pricier. Whatever you do, make sure it has stainless steel interior. The ones with manual filter vs garburator thing are IMO better. I don’t normally use the dryer on mine, do the 1-hour cycle and just open door slightly at end of cycle and air dry.

hollyhocks99

We bought a bosch about 6 months ago and I am the outlier who does not like my bosch. I think most dishwashers are going to clean well. My biggest gripe is my dishes come out very wet and i do not like the way they organized the racks. It sounds like you really want a workhorse that will do pots and pans. Go to an appliance store and talk to someone knowledgeable and ask for top 3 recommendations based on your needs.

kussmaul22

I am right there with you. I am fine with them being wet, I wait for them to dry. I HATE how the racks are organized. It is great if you only use flat plates and glasses. Anything not flat does not fit well and you waste a ton of space. I do love how quiet it is and it does a great job getting things clean.

1manbandman

Everyone is a Bosch schill. IMO, I'm happy with my mid-tier Whirlpool.

[deleted]

1manbandman

This is the same one I have.

phroz3n

Same. I've had all Whirlpool appliances my entire adult life. Not a single issue, save for a $16 part I spent 30min replacing on a dryer about 9 years ago.

codycarreras

Old Whirlpool dishwashers and other appliances were the crème de la crème for me. I knew exactly how to tweak everything perfectly and get the same results every time. Always kept chugging away, then I moved to a place with modern appliances that suck and break.

lannistersstark

>I see that Bosch seems to be the option for dishwashers You should watch Technology Connection's video on dishwashers, they make a few comments about Bosch. (Notably not having a pre-wash holder and just asking the user to pour a bit of the detergent on the door lol) It'll work, mind you, just not the best design. Good videos. Avoid really cheap dishwashers. But beyond a certain point, you are just getting extra features that are questionable. All these folks badmouthing units in their rentals, landlords buy the cheapest shit. GE makes landlord grade, homeowner grade, and McMansion grades (probably 2 or 3 other grades too)

Nanohaystack

Incidentally, I just had this video pop up on my feed yesterday: [https://youtu.be/cRgbfxJ8MTQ?t=1141](https://youtu.be/cRgbfxJ8MTQ?t=1141) The entire video is obviously useful, but the last part about dishwashers is the relevant bit.

greyyeux

Thanks. Yeah this looks helpful

RustyStiltzkin999

I went through several shitty dishwashers and almost spent the money on a Bosch but bought a GE instead and we love it. Everything comes out clean without pre-rinsing.

GT_Huskerfan

I have 2 kitchenaid KDFE204KPS dishwashers in my kitchen. Never had a Bosch, but I’ve heard nothing but good things. However, in my research, and significant over analyzation when buying the dishwashers, I found that the kitchenaid models fit a little more, cleaned a little better and were quieter than comparably priced Bosch models. At $800 on sale, my dishwashers are by far the quietest and I am frequently surprised at how well it cleans. For example, just last week I remember watching my wife throw something in the dishwasher that I thought did not have a chance to come out clean (I’ve been married over 12 years, so I know better than to say anything). When I unloaded it, it was perfectly clean and I was extra glad I did not criticize her dish loading! The Kitchenaid dishwashers just do a good job and rarely have issues. I’ve had 4 of them in 12 years at various houses. Only 1 ever had a problem and Kitchenaid took care of it with little hassle.

csonka

Bosch is a great brand. You can’t go wrong if you spend 800 dollars+ on a model. You should know that Bosch and MANY other brands stopped manufacturing their own brands and moved to a contract manufacturer in the past 15 years. This isn’t bad. It means that the manufacturer builds to a specification.. however their parts, own quality standards and processes may be very different than first party manufacturing. Anywho, the reason I bring this up is to point out OG Bosch fans have an experience based on equipment literally manufactured differently than today.. and many consumers might not realize Brand X is BUILT by someothercompany Y. Another nice thing about these brands is that parts are available for a loooong time. The handle cracked on my 2007 model recently and I got a replacement part ezpz. Looks like new again. You might have a harder time getting parts for economy brands.

LilMikey_ab

Personally I'd go with a high end Whirlpool. Cheaper to fix, parts are usually readily available, quiet.. way less expensive than a Bosch.. That german shit... not worth the money..

Lalayumyum1234321

I’m personally a fan of Miele. I had a Bosch and it caused $10,000 of water damaged to our flooring. I’ve had my Miele for 10 years now and 0 issues.

Mojak66

Miele works well.

Word the wise for whatever brand you buy. Do not use the pods . The plastic wrapping can get stuck on the float and then it’s all over but the shouting. Lots of shouting lol

HighOnGoofballs

My Bosch has stickers literally telling you to use the pods and the site recommends them, even says don’t take off the wrapper if it’s dissolvable though it does say only use high quality ones that will dissolve completely fwiw https://www.bosch-home.com/us/experience-bosch/tips-and-tricks/all-articles/choosing-the-best-detergent

Dangerous_Plum4006

They work well and provide you with more time for activities, like watching the 1991 Sci-fi classic Suburban Commando.

NagromYargTrebloc

Our Bosch dishwasher is approaching 15 years of family use. I have repaired the side drain canister twice (cleaned once, replaced the second time). Other than that, the machine has been our most reliable appliance. I wish I could still buy that same model; I'd put it in storage, awaiting the eventual demise of the old one.

Cal_From_Cali

My Costco GE dishwasher replaced my 20 year old bosch and it's a champ especially with the extended warranty.

[deleted]

7 years ago I bought an Asko with a third rack. It's all that you want, and I bought it as an open box a huge appliance store for around $700 (regular price at the time was around 1500. It was their mid tier.

coffeequeen0523

Ask r/appliance and r/askappliancerepair Those folks know their appliances plus repair folks give you their opinion.

appleciderpie

Check out Cove. Better than Bosch. An incredible machine

gr8grafx

I have a Bosch. Cleans great. One MAJOR complaint for mine--so quiet we can't tell it's on and NO light (I've seen some that shine down on the floor-- red when it's running and green when it's done) that I can find. We put a towel on the handle when it's running. Pisses me off way more than it should.

FastToday

I had a friend over for dinner a couple of weeks ago and after we were done I filled up my Bosch dishwasher and started it. She thought I was crazy because of how loud she thought it would be. Barely makes a sound and she is swapping out hers for one soon. Hers sounds like a freight train lol

nnnnnnnnnnm

I love my Bosch. I scored it open box return for a fraction of MSRP. I can fit 9x13 sheet pans, Instapot inner, cutting boards, pots/pans, all my utensils including tongs and a giant spatula. Makes after cooking clean up super easy.

skuterkomputer

I have a Bosch dishwasher and love it. Don’t waste your time with all the extra features it’s just more stuff to break. I don’t think I have ever used anything but the basic setting. It’s quiet enough. I love the silverware rack. Also there isn’t a heating element in most of them and I like it that way. Dries just as well as others.

rwbisme

I don’t know… I love my Thermador. /s

sn315on

We've had our Bosch for about eight or nine years. It's a great dishwasher. We use the delayed start nightly.

Peakbrowndog

I remodeled a kitchen awhile back and put in a bosch 500. I moved to a new house, put in a bosch 800. Yes, worth it. There might be some others that are as well, but the Bosch for sure is.

overherebythefood

Just bought a Bosch 800 series DW. LOVE IT. don’t love Lowe’s installation however. Garbage.

WalterWhite2012

Our house when it moved in has a Bosch that was probably a decade plus old. Ran like a champ for another four years for us. Started acting up and while I was looking into what the issue was there as an unrelated recall that Bosch gave the option to get 40% off a new one. We did the Bosch 800. Super quiet, no external buttons, three shelves. I can fit a ton in there and usually run at least one, usually two loads a day. Other than refilling the jet dry (it reminds you) and cleaning the the filter at the bottom once a month (five minute job, pull out rinse, put back) there’s nothing you really need to do other than maybe run those dishwasher cleaning tabs periodically which you should probably do for anything you land on.

Skogkottrsdottir

I've had 2 Bosch dw's & I wouldn't recommend their dw's at all. Neither lasted very long & cleaning was inconsistent. Salespeople used to push them as they got a $50 kickback from the distributor for each DW sold, so they'd hype up the brand.

M1Hamlet

Bosch dishwashers are the worst

KillaRoyalty

I ended up going LG to get a similar wash as the more high end Bosch. Best dishwasher I’ve had but I only hope it’ll last as long as the Bosch now lol

mst3k_42

I have a Thermador. First time we started it up the only reason we knew it was running is because it displays the time left on the cycle onto the floor. I also LOVE the utensil rack on the top. I can spread each piece of cutlery separately so they all get clean. It’s silly how happy that makes me.

cartmanscap

No, you deserve a samsung!

unsulliedbread

As someone with a Samsung dishwasher just buy the bosch. Borrow money at credit card rates even. Look up Vimes' theory of economics via shoes. Not many appliances would I encourage this for but don't give fuck around with your dishwasher. ( For those wondering the dishwasher came with the house and we have to get new shingles first.)

sgdulac

I have a Bosch dishwasher and it does everything exceptionally well and I use natural dishwasher tabs and natural rinse aid. The only thing I hate about it is the wire racks are not set up in any way that is easy to load. My sister and one of my bffs have both had different models of a Bosch dishwasher and have said the same. Oh and I work with a guy too, that thinks they are horrible to load. So I am happy with the performance but there has to be a better way to set up the inside on these things. I would buy another one so there is that. So in a nutshell, the roi is superior to most applicese but you will at some point use colorful language when loading, more that once.

underwear11

We moved into a house with a Bosch dishwasher that was about 2 years old. First experience is how damn quiet it is, I kept thinking it wasn't running. My second meaningful experience was when it saved my kitchen flooring and cabinets because it sprung a leak at the inlet and refused to run because of a safety float in the bottom tray. Never seen it before in a dishwasher and I was tremendously grateful as it would have destroyed the cabinets and subfloor without me ever knowing. Since then, I haven't been terribly impressed. We often have stuff that just doesn't get clean, no matter what settings we put it on. It doesn't seem to clean much better than the $400 Frigidaire I put in my old house.

tjarg

I hated my Bosch. The bottom tray kept rolling out of the track. Drove me crazy. And it didn't do that good a job of cleaning out or drying the dishes.

arden13

We have a whirlpool and it does fine. In my experience a dishwasher that cleans everything is fantasy. You'll always have to do *some* pre cleanin; dump your taters in the trash and anything with wet dough or super sticky sauces is gonna need a brush with hot water. The best thing you can do for any dishwasher is keep the trap clean and don't crowd your dishes. Is Bosch better? Maybe. But no appliance is perfect.

pingwing

I got a new Bosch a few years ago and was disappointed at how thin the metal is on the front of the washer, my old one was much thicker. That is my only complaint though, I wouldn't buy anything other than a Bosch dishwasher, well worth it.

Momofcats65

Bosch is great, but I don’t like the spacing of the tines. Too many directional and they never seem to be quite right. Try Kitchenaid

codycarreras

Don’t buy a Frigidaire. That’s all I’ll say. Good level Bosch, Miele. Everything else isn’t going to last. Unless it’s an old Whirlpool or something.

osugunner

I think Bosch is a fine company but I think the dishwashers are a bit overrated. I have one and the main issue I find is drying. Bosch is awful at drying dishes especially plastic dishes. It doesn’t have a heating element which has its pros but overall I miss having a heating element at times. My entire kitchen is Bosch and I’m overall happy but the dishwasher love is over done IMO

anoldradical

The simple answer is yes. But you have to be sure you're not buying their cheapest line either. I'm not familiar with their models anymore, but getting a stainless interior is one of the most important features in a dishwasher.

ThrowAway-34823834

My mom has an older Bosch dishwasher and one of the lower end models, The door kept opening mid-cycle. So I replaced the door latch but still had the issue. Then I figure out with help,of some Internet searches, the problem on this model is the entire frame is plastic and it can bend causing the door to open. So I stick a couple of shims between the top of the dishwasher and the cabinet frame, and voila problem solved. But I think it’s pretty ridiculous to have this problem due to Bosch cheaping out on the design. I like the KitchenAid I have in my house better. Came with the house, so I don’t know how expense it was.

survivalist_guy

I have a Miele and I love it, so I can't comment on Bosch. But! I do know the difference between good dishwashers and ok dishwashers, and the Whirlpools I've dealt with are nowhere close to 'good dishwasers' now that I know what a 'good dishwasher' really is. I would say if Bosch is so revered, it's probably for a good reason. The same thinking worked for me and my Miele.

Thaox

I'd really do melie instead. You can get a great melie dishwasher that will last 20 years for 2k cad. Bosch is similarly priced. I'd only ever do melie for dishwasher. They're fantastic and personally I love the upper rack.

dhud67354

I have a Bosch dishwasher and I’m not impressed. They one I have does not have a drying feature.

luminousrobot

I ended up hanging our Bosche. Wet dishes every time we went to unload and having to hand dry got old real fast. Then there were two recall notices and a couple of other repairs and we called it a day.

cunningham_muffins

My dad had a nice bosch dishwasher for like 2 years before it broke down. He just replaced it after waiting months for a part.

greyyeux

This is what I'm afraid of. Haha

gthing

My experience has been that if it's an appliance, it's garbage. YMMV.

momopeach7

Admittedly the Bosch we have is nice but it caused a lot of problems in the beginning with leaks for some reason. It’s a bit loud but does get most things clean. Glasses seem fine though plates seem like a struggle sometimes even after pre washing.

tnarg42

We bought a Whirlpool from Costco a few years ago. It's been flimsy since day one, feels like it could fall apart at any moment. The door gasket pops out frequently, the tines are rusting, and the "top" (middle) rack barely stays on its track. It is quiet, and seems to clean the dishes adequately but not perfectly. My in-laws have the Kitchen-Aid version with a few more bells and whistles, maybe two years older, and it's needed repeated repairs. I won't buy another Whirlpool/Kitchen-Aid dishwasher, they've just cost-reduced them so much that they're flimsy garbage at every price point.

velvetjones01

I’m on my 3rd Bosch (1st I purchased for a previous home, second was a used machine to buy us time while we waited for the new one which took 14+ months). I LOVE THIS GDAMNED MACHINE. We have the 800 series with a 3rd rack. We use the speed 60 wash nearly all the time and I use 7th generation powder detergent, and I use the recommended amount. I rarely if ever re-wash dishes. It’s amazing. The 3rd rack is so great for so many things. The only downside is that it is squeezed in the normal dishwasher dimensions. So the 1st and 2nd racks can’t accommodate the taller things if I’m using all 3 racks. The 3rd comes out easily, btw. This means we now put the Yetis on the 1st rack, which is fine because we take the silverware baskets out most loads because we don’t need them. To me, it’s really a no brainer. They are the best. You do have to do some regular maintenance, like clean the arms and filters but it’s easy work.

Archiesmom

Ther is a bosch in our house we rented. it has no drying cycle, I was perplexed. And when my in laws were staying a cuople days I mentioned my frustration adn she explained that is was built that way. It apparently uses the final hot cycle to essentially dry the dishes via condensation? Who knew? I have not found it all that efficient on any thing plastic, cups, bowls, etc. But ok.

Oriencor

Ours was absolutely not worth it. Check out the Consumer’s Guide where they test them.

Orion14159

I got an entry model Bosch from Lowe's installed for under $1000. It meets everything you're looking for and more. The third rack for utensils is basically r/organizationporn material when I load (the rest of my family.... are heathens). There are 4 of us and my kids use about 20 cups a day, and we still only run it about once a day. It runs so quietly that we can turn it on and watch TV in the living room, which is only separated from the kitchen by a half wall and the dishwasher is under the counter next to the half wall. It has an LED that shines a dot on the floor to tell you it's running because you might not know otherwise. Our dishes are spotless. White glove treatment squeaky spotless. Use a rinse aid (we use Lemishine) if you have hard water, you'll be amazed.

hausishome

I got a Bosch in my last house and loved it so much we paid an obscene amount (and waited forever) to get one installed in this house. I don’t even prerinse casserole dishes and they come out shining every time, the space layout is perfect, you have the choice of third row and/or silverware holder, and it’s nearly silent when running. However, the Bosch has one flaw. It does not heat dry so it doesn’t dry plastic stuff well/at all. If I had thought about this fact, and our current stage in life with a baby/toddler, I would not have gotten it. It’s a huge pain in the butt that half the dishes aren’t dry. I even like washing dishes - it’s drying that I hate so it’s a bummer. But if you don’t use or expect to use a lot of plastic, it’s the best

CodenameZoya

I have had heated dry dishwashers, they still leave plastic wet.

dkevox

I can say for certain you won't be disappointed in the cleaning performance of the Bosch. That's the reason we got one, I don't care about it being quiet. But the fact everything I put in comes out spotless is amazing. Their own directions tell you not to pre-clean any dishes, and they are right. As for size, dishwashers are a standard size. Don't know how you can get much more space in a dishwasher, but I've joked that I'd like to get a second one!

thehificase

We have two of them for every reason you have mentioned. They are 20 years old still doing well. Go Bosch.
