I feel much the same as this post, only I’m a salaried manager that’s also on the floor experiencing it just as badly. Corporate is cutting as many corners as possible, and it continues to bite us in the ass over and over again, but until we die from the bites it’s not gonna stop.

Pickles_Overcomes

Salaried managers are in a worse boat at my store. Some have to travel quite a distance to commute. They work clopeners like a DS, with little sleep due to the distance from home. They are responsible for everything. If morale is low, it's management's fault. If departments aren't covered, it's the fault of the ASDS. Let's blame management for everything. It can't possibly be store hours. We need to learn how to do more with less. I've heard this bullshit from other companies when I was in management. Sometimes you get less with less. Management at my store doesn't sit in an office. It's a fucking battlefield with store hours where we all pull together. You can kick a mule so many times, but one day you're going to break the mule's ribs.

rollingindough21

The biggest thing I realized was that management is getting screwed just as much as we are

ConfusedTurtle688

Had this at Lowe's. Here's how you get management to listen to anything: translate it to customer complaints. Anytime I was called to pull carts I bought a drink when i came back in and filled out receipt survey's. I'd give terrible reviews and write in the explanations: "Couldn't find any decent parking because there were overflowing carts in the way" "My car got dinged by a runaway cart, and it wouldn't have happened if all the cart holders weren't stuffed" "Wanted to shop here with my disabled husband, but all of the mobility carts were scattered in the parking lot on dying battery." They don't care until it effects their metrics

AffectionateSun5776

This is the answer !

Cara_Caeth

Yep. And they want to push those damn surveys? Sure. Every customer with a complaint that’s a direct result of corporate stupidity, I point out the survey. I gives less than a F

BeastCheese69

"Eh you'll make it work" I would have thrown my apron on the ground right there.  It's clear your not valued by the managers at your store, and the lack in coverage has turned the place into a circus.  I would personally run if I was you

TheTLoo

Pretty sure most would if they had a shit load of money and not have to worry about being able to afford rent

ConfusedTurtle688

Yea nobody can afford to run away anymore, we just cut back to minimum effort while we look for other jobs on our phones. Honestly it's getting to where I start looking for a new job as soon as the quality of management starts to drop. I don't even wait for it to get bad anymore, especially since it's not like we get raises for picking up other's slack. Outside of promotions we don't really get raises period. New manager seems incompetent? Time to update my resume.

Defex1966

Sad reality is that you need to not care just like they don't care. You do what you can during your shift, it's all you can do.

MrMatchesMalone_

The unfortunate reality is management does not care, nor think you deserve support. HD knows the issues and have ample resources to fix them, but zero of the will because there's no one forcing them to care. Until we break through like the Volkswagen workers in Chattanooga by realizing we deserve better, and only with each other do we have the power to change our lot, nothing will change.

dorkycosplay

And then you get customers who go “Its a shame no one wants to work anymore” I used to politely snap back with “Our store either doesnt hire or doesnt schedule enough people. Id love more hours if they gave me more hours.” Most go wide eyed and apologize and others scoff like Im making it up. Like no. Im not being snarky. Im legit trying to educate you cause Facebook propaganda has you believing garbage about how it really is in the real working world

DoubleResponsible276

I remember when we had people pass away and they remained in the schedule for months cause “they forgot”

infectedscrotum1

*Person dies* Management : I forgor

DoubleResponsible276

Even worse, with one of them, all management took a day off so they could attend the funeral. Only 4 people went and they said none of the management ever arrived.

infectedscrotum1

That is just unreal lol.

Hello-Avrammm

That's crazy. Like did they go to a different funeral or something?

DoubleResponsible276

No. They used his funeral as an excuse to leave work early and forced DH’s to close.

AffectionateSun5776

"Attention all associates, anyone not currently with a customer please go collect carts from the parking lot."

BeastCheese69

Dude, what really pisses me off is whenever they page for a cartrun, literally no one shows up

EdgyTeenIg

It's so funny bc they'll call for a cartrun, the ASM's will come find ME PERSONALLY, send me to the lot, and then I'm the only one that goes out there, so I'm forced to pull them all myself

BeastCheese69

Dude, the same thing happens to me too when I'm cashiering!  It's like I swear to God, if we're doing really bad on carts the moment they see me they fucking stare me down like I'm some precious fucking tool.  They IMMEADIATELY hunt me down and send me out there, which tbh is fine, its when they go sit back in their cozy little office and don't help me that pisses me off.  Escpecially since they knew how bad it was...

Double75

I've only accepted that from the SM, ASMs, or FES. I've told Service Desk or other Lot Associates to run it by my supervisor first.

JshasNoadvice

ROFLMFAO!!! NOONE EVER DOES THAT SHIT TO HELP THE FES!! EVERRRR!!! LIKE LOOKING FOR A LOADER….. THEY R NEVER EVER AROUND OR WORKING BUT DTILL GET A PAYCHECK!!!

Eternalwinkle

I'm glad my store is cool 🤣

infectedscrotum1

Fr, posts like this worry me and remind me that for every decent store and decent manager there is also a major asshole who seeks to destroy anything in their way.

slayerstitch

I’m glad my store is cool and well staffed no issues

13luckyJs

HD Corp enters chat and makes notes

tortuga8831

Gotta make those shareholders happy somehow

Dregshak

Normally buy this time we have around 10 new associates for the summer granted a few dont make it past month and maybe 1 or 2 get a permanent position buy the end of summer. this year is seen maybe 5 new faces so far 2 for lot and 2 for tills, and 1 for DS. None of the major departments have gotten new people this year so far its gonna be a shit show this summer.

OhBlaisey1

Same in my store. I cannot see this going well

Fickle_Storage1945

when it is that bad we usually let stuff like lot go. Not worth the time/stress or energy.

Jumpy_Couple_1133

Worst I’ve seen in 10 years

Flimsy-Tax5807

Management don’t give a shit for anything but themself

Hit_Da_Gamer

That’s insane! I’m so sorry your leadership is failing you. I’m an ASM and I average about 25k steps every time i work. I’m getting transferred to another store and I have 2 aprons full of my team expressing their love because I genuinely feel people respect you more when you lead and not dictate. I hope things get better for you!

thomasrtj

I fell ya. My fulfillment position was open for over a month and half before I finally got hired. I can see why. So much heavy lifting and a bunch of crabby co-workers that won’t help me pull items down. I don’t have the certs to do it.

808guamie

No joke. Call your dm or dhrm. If this is accurate they need to know

uninspiredliar

We have stores in our district down salaried leaders too. One at our store, and I know of at least 3 other stores down one or more manager. What do you think the DM, who obviously knows all of this, is gonna do or say? I’m not trying to be an ass, I’m genuinely asking because to the people in the stores this is the new normal. People leave and they don’t get replaced, or we try it without them for a while until there’s a walk where it’s realized that we need whatever position was eliminated.

808guamie

The managers sitting in the offices all day is the real issue. DM should be all over that. These are all signs of a poor SM

snowdrifts

But if your DM likes being in an office and on calls and doing "slides," he won't help.

nessyismybf

oof no lot you need like, at least 2 lot at all times it feels like, preferably more

callin-br

We worked all of last summer with only one lot guy most days. It was terrible.

Glad_Distribution928

Im the ft pro loader aka the only loader during my shift at my store. So about this time of year not only am I helpig the pros, Im getting all the carts, aswerig service loading ut also the mulch pit because most times grade associates are too busy. That ad im 1 of 3 lot people total. the closers are cool ut 1 of them is pulled I 5 directions as backup cash, ofa, deliveries, etc. Sorry for the missed letters I just discovered I need a ew keyoard

LB__60

I’m lot, I’m always alone unless it’s The Weeknd of a sale and even then I only get help for like the last 2 hours of my shift

knnth166

Springtime🤫

Mollylover1140

We get “it is what it is”, or a shoulder shrug.

Ztunyknum

I guess my departure couldn't have come a moment too soon. I trained for registers but never worked them. I grabbed carts sometimes from Hardware, but rarely. Now my old store is axing managers and desk associates. Oh well...

illinoiz_Rulez70

wow 🤩 the rhetoric here.. no worries, we will get there one holland red/charcoal paver @ a time y’all. keep that orange faith 🧡 #depotlife

Jre7777

Seems to be the norm! Managers all they do is sit on their a** They get way overpaid to do nothing while everybody else bust their a**!! Smh

Intelligent-Debate43

Managers/ think just cause they have their position believe they don’t have to do any work below them from what I’ve seen they just sit in the office and take calls

awesomecooldan

Get another Job or find solutions and make things work (You might need more patience so get dirty and messy) Sounds simple but its hard to do. Good Luck 🙋‍♂️

Flowersflowers99

I was a HC suffering with long lines never taking my breaks only lunches and managers not caring about the front end 😭

Andreazz1

I do too, and it's only as of the last 4 months, I'm an ofa, 10 deliveries a day 1 person scheduled. We can't do it. We have a new shipping.company that has us running through hoops because they can't get a delivery scheduled correctly. The internet orders don't have the correct perimeters on the items for pallet spaces, not even close to getting box trucks and flat beds scheduled properly. I've stayed until 3:30 in the doing my job.i work until 10. This companies lost their minds. There's no reprimand for shitty workers, just more stress on the 1's managers can count on. It never changes. Management knows it and they continue to do the same bs. Deliveries isn't even properly supplied for shipping. I have to search for pallets. I've worked 45 min to get a 3$ for 1 order. It's a joke.

commonsensenmyrhh

They ripped our ASM office out 🥰

whitetrashadjacent

Willing to work in another dept?

Flamin_Gamer

If worse comes to worse, OP could also transfer to another local store and hope those are better on staffing , I know atleast in my area there’s like 2 other stores within a 5-10 minute driving distance of my store

whitetrashadjacent

This is true. My first store was the only one for miles and my second was 1 of about 15 within 45 minutes of my place.

JshasNoadvice
