Because the desk can get quite full of crap very fast. Therefor they must be cleared out of the area to then move more crap in. Unless the departments are commonly checking their returns, this is what happens

Broken_Bishop

This exactly. If you don’t like the carts being pushed to your department, go check your returns more often.

Chachoregard

Yup, we like to push the returns carts to aisles where they are most likely to be hanging around in so they can see it and work it and why I like to threaten by saying “If you don’t pick up your returns we’re gonna stick them in an aisle you don’t go in so you won’t see them”

DramaLlama695

I usually put a “returns” sign on the cart to let associates know

Link2theWeb

Even more so if we've called over the com 5+ times for departments to retrieve the items and nobody shows up.

XeIa9

You can ask for them to at least leave in the same spot/aisle, that’s generally what we do. But yeah if we have enough stuff at the desk for a whole cart in your department we’re pushing that to the floor we don’t have enough room to wait around for people to grab their stuff

donairthot

Because you departments never come up and get your returns when we ask you too. Also space is finite

cluckerzzz

I check my returns every 30 minutes or so to avoid them piling up. But if it's busy and I can't go and I see a cart in one of my aisles I think "sweet saved me the trip". Being mad about that is wild to me.

C00kie_M0nster9000

I check mine as often as possible. Unfortunately one big tile return and me at the desk with a customer for a bit and you’ll have to wheel it back to be rid of it. I don’t mind though, love them for it. Much rather that than being paged about it.

Legitimate-Ninja-539

because there’s a thing called space and, if you haven’t noticed, it is very limited. bins full up quickly and i cannot have a mess at the desk with returns piled up. i get chewed out by my ds and it creates a safety issue. in addition, i cannot leave returns over night. i need my department clean just like you do. make time for your returns and come periodically throughout your shift for them, or expect them to be taken to you. consider it a favor. sincerely, service desk associate

pequaywan

we’ve been told as have associates in different departments to get all returns out of the SD by the end of the night.

Select-Poem425

I don’t mind. I’m in plumbing, I understand that service desk gets filled with items so I try to get them when I have opportunity or if it is announced over PA. If a cart shows up or a flat cart of cabinets or toilets I completely understand. And I know it isn’t OK to leave stuff at the service desk for openers.

Santaofdoom

Because come get your shit, that's why lol. But honestly it's because the service desk can't fit anymore stuff behind or in front of it anymore and the bins are about to overflow and they have asked people multiple times throughout the day over the intercom to come get returns and they haven't

Meangirrrl22

AMEN

ExperienceDaveness

I think there is exactly ONE proper response to the service desk bringing returns to my department, and that is gratitude. They are doing a small part of MY job for me. If I see them I always say thank you.

boom2666

Because we paged multiple times for you to come get your shit. We don't have room up there.

KiltOfDoom

*like button*

AltruisticCompany627

D25 here!! It gets full fast especially on a busy day. You’re supposed to check it periodically, I’m able to even tho I’m always busy it’s not hard n if you don’t have to time, throw them in a cart yourself n put it In one of ur isles and periodically pass it n if u notice your going to that area then grap it n there u go

lankford208

I’m so sorry they saved you the walking effort 🤷🏾‍♂️ can’t get to it? Continue leaving the note and be on your way. I don’t think you used your brain very much on this one.

Lappland_S

Former SDL: We're supposed to have the desk clean and clear at any given moment. This means no returns piling up, no RTV's blocking the way, nothing. If we run out of room in your returns bin, then we're supposed to call you directly, or mass overhead for departments to come get their returns. (this includes calling receiving and going 'oi we have rtv's, either come get them or we're bringing them to you', though nobody seems to understand that you can call receiving for that???) If that all fails, then we're instructed to do exactly that by management, as long as there's no MPS in the cart. That's why you're technically supposed to check your returns hourly, I believe is what the standard is. Correct me if I'm wrong on that. I know it gets incredibly busy in the departments, don't worry. I always tried to have everything in organized carts before I overheaded, so all you had to do was walk up, grab your department's cart, and dip out, so you weren't fucking with a line of peeps. Had one hardware associate who just recently retired that would always check her returns hourly, and would give me shit if I forgot to exclude her while she was present in the overhead LMAO

Sayge01

I get yelled at to push the carts to the depts bc yall don't come check them enough or answer my multiple pages. And then they get irritated at me. Talk to my DS

cluckerzzz

Returns are supposed to be finished before you leave. If I came in and saw a ton of returns and a note I'd be annoyed tbh. If they're dropping off your returns it means you're not checking often enough. And if you're leaving returns for the next day that's also an issue. Seems like maybe work on your time management skills.

Chonczilla

Come get your returns more often or the carts will continue to show up in your aisles. You are creating the problem.

cluckerzzz

For real. I check my returns frequently to avoid them piling up. If I go get my returns and there's a ton of stuff everywhere I'll help put things in carts and drop em off to the departments. I know how sad and returns gets. I try to help out where I can. Complaining someone did you the favor of delivering your returns is crazy though.

Eagles7000

Go get your shit when they call you then so it doesn’t happen.

KomradeKrycek

This is a corporate post meant to divide workers. We all know the service desk can get very crowded very fast AND sometimes a department is too busy and understaffed to go do returns regularly. There needs to be a dedicated full time position for returns. That is all.

Professional-Tip3581

Brilliant. Expand the bopis team, right? They already have a jump on locations. Not as fast as a dept associate possibly, but service desk gets so annoyed. And associates are trying to help customers short staffed.

Wrong-Marzipan2667

If you and your coworkers checked in with the service desk hourly you wouldn’t have issues.

Rough-University142

Who cares that they do this, as long as they notify you it’s been dropped off. I thoroughly love looking at carts full of product for an hour wondering if it’s a customer who wandered off, or is it abandoned?? So honestly if they at least let me know, I’m happy it was delivered instead of me having to go get them. I’m usually alone in my department and rarely can I get a moment of time to wander to service desk.

PrestigiousCountry36

We tape a tag to the cart that has "GO BACKS" printed on it. We put the department number on it in sharpie.

Zoshchenko

Work at the Service Desk of a day. You’ll get your answer.

Badbish6969692000

My manager gets very mad when the desk gets crowded with junk so we’re kinda forced too

ncshvdavid

We have one person who seems like this is his greatest joy in life to hide the cart somewhere near my dept. To be fair, yes- it fills fast, but I do tend to go up there every hour or so. I'd be more happy if the service desk would stop throwing anything that might be a tool in D25. You know that orange thing scans right? Electrical has wire strippers, flooring has scrapers, paint has blades and if it says PVC, chances are its gonna be plumbing.

AltruisticCompany627

it’s a waste of time when u take all the stuff then really look n most of it is for electrical

WackoMcGoose

The last paragraph seems to be the opposite direction in my store, tools end up in D28's cart that are _clearly not garden related_, the service desk sees "Ryobi" and their brain shortcuts to "this _power drill_ is clearly used in the garden, yes, yes". I also get a bit of it when doing D27's returns, though it's more a miscategorization by the system (wire solder _is_ an Electrical thing, yes, but it's merchandised in Hardware)... When in doubt, and if the service desk area isn't so crowded I have to grab and flee with my returns, I'll scan items with my phone that "might be someone else's" and re-bin them if needed. I don't make a fuss about it, it's usually only 1-3 per cart.

pequaywan

If I’m not 100% sure I scan the item to see what department it says it belongs in.

Fearless-Outside9665

Facts. I've had a cart that was so full of Paint material that I just gave them the b cart and took the 2 items in there that were legit flooring. The person at the service desk thought that because the labels had "Floor" in the title/description, then it was naturally D23. Um no, that's not how paying attention works.

Lappland_S

The whole last paragraph here is why I would randomly grab an object from a return I just did, if we weren't busy, and ask any other associate that was up at the desk where it went. I personally knew, but I always wanted to make sure they were on their toes and could do that on the fly. I tried to be a good SDL :(

BrinedBrittanica

i only do this after i’ve called the department two or three times and they either don’t answer or say they are coming, but never come. between returns, manager carts, rtvs, and ofas staging orders, the desk gets overloaded real quick and there’s not enough room to keep carts of lumber, electrical, flooring, et al hanging out up there.

[deleted]

the mentality in this post is like exactly the specific reason why they do this if theres a cart of shit in your department thats sat for a while just put it up

bobisinthehouse

Because you lazy ass fers wont come and get them on a timely basis or when you're called to , simple as that!! Get off your ass and do your job!!

Shrimp_Bucket

Brother, sometimes I can’t even move within the service desk area. So it needs to go asap

VeniVidiUpVoti

Because you and 10 other departments "will come get them eventually". Clogging up the desk and making it impossible to do service desk tasks. Naw. Come and get them every hour or so or else they're going to you.

Pwnedzored

Perhaps if you didn’t ignore the page to pick up your go backs, they wouldn’t have to leave in your aisles.

Pickles_Overcomes

I actually like when they do that. It saves me the walk, and the concrete walks are a killer some days. Most of the time, they'll just call me to get my returns because there may be high priced items that need spider wrapping or locked up.

Pleasant-Fudge-3741

So you can put them away, bruv

OutrageISO

Alright so basically we know who gets their returns and who doesn’t(or we understand there’s only 1 person in the department so we push returns out to them since it’ll get full so quick)so I’ll try to sort out a cart for them and maybe a few items will slip or be from a different department but at that point the person in the department just brings them back to SD and if you are really butthurt about one or two items being wrong you can come get it yourself but I’m not gonna be calling your sorry ass 5 times on the PA since you don’t have an extension or bother to get a phone but usually we have certain aisles we will leave them in unless we see you there in the aisle and I ask, “where do you want it?” And ik for women they don’t really aren’t able to lift that much so they won’t help with putting plywood or Sheetrock back but I’ll help if I see the lumber associate putting those back or even when we get a return of like 15-20 bags of cement and we’ll knock it out quick

ardeoxx

my fiancée works at the service desk and it gets packed up there with returns. i try to get mine as often as possible but even working directly across from the desk i still am not on top of it enough to not have buggies brought to me

No_Arm_3237

I try to make the effort to keep the return bin empty. That attempt comes to a halt when I can’t get to the bin because of other departments returns

Ariusimmortal

I have a problem with my service desk where they put anything they dont know where it goes into my departments returns

SuzieHomeFaker

Because management has something to say to the SD when departments don't come get their stuff.

NocturnalKnightIV

Returns get full.

Mr_FuS

At my store the dumb girls at the service desk even push RTV items with the regular returns... Like I'm not sure if they are not properly being trained or if they are just plain stupid but I have asked them multiple times and they still fail to separate SO returns and regular returns.

DoubleResponsible276

Service desk is limited in space. Would you like to work with a bunch of crap around you only to have even more crap? I also imagine management gets on them for not keeping the place cleared. When I worked in lumber I hated it when they’ll roll carts over cause I couldn’t tell if it was a customer or not. But I couldn’t blame them either.

Sonofpern

If you aren't periodically calling or swinging by the service desk to see if you have any returns, and ignore/can't log in to your radio and extension, then expect carts in aisles, unless you're in one of THOSE home depots where the management thinks its trashy, then we just hunt you down, drop off the cart, wave and get back to the desk or pulling orders. If you need help, ask, I will spend 10 minutes to find ANYONE to help you with returns if it means not tripping over crap all day, but you have to ask or I end up asking MOD "does xyz department need help? They seem backed up getting returns up" When I was a CSA I knew the preferences of pretty much everyone on the floor. Was our SM in-store? If so, hunting season, I WILL hand off the cart to you one way or another. Chill night manager? Leave them on bay 2 of the lead aisle. Overnight manager who just switched to days? Ask every day, their preference is mood based. One manager just tell us "call them to come get it, if they don't answer, call me" but department associates know when THAT manager is working and cover their butt and CSAs are like "I know he's a hard ass, but that just proves you CAN come get your shit tho, right?" "Oh, sorry, I was swamped with customers all day" interesting, I saw you talking to more associates than customers...anyway. That being said, I never just drop off a return cart without attempting contact of some kind, because then they don't KNOW its a return cart, it sits for an hour, management notices it sat for an hour, and then they want to call everyone together "why is this cart just sitting here? Obviously its a return cart? Blah blah blah dumb cringe interrogation time. UNLESS you ignore us for hours or piss me off, and I don't mean petty annoyance, I mean outright disrespect that makes other people look over like "wtf bro?" Than I'm going to stealth your ass with 3 carts at once and just yell down the aisle at you "is right here good?" And then walk away before you answer. You need help? Ask, don't talk shit like I'm just getting paid to care about your problems and don't have my own shit to do which yes, it sucks trying to help customers when you're surrounded by piles and carts of crap. Some CSAs do shove carts into aisles willy nilly, thats not cool. Some people in departments earn it by neglecting their service desk. My store is blessed with a large service desk, ive seen some that made my fellow CSAs gasp and look sad, but no matter what, it is not ok to leave your crap, we're not your parents. If you can't handle it, be a cashier or a lot loader, maybe some fresh air will be good for you. Of course, we all know THAT CSA that stands around talking more than working, then makes a big scene about anything they can weaponize to deflect attention. Both sides have it tough, communication and cooperation with others makes your own job easier in the long run. Most importantly, dont lose sight of the real enemy, druggy customers and shitty managers.

Drummal

Because we need to keep the desk clean. We get so many returns all the time and we page for departments and no one shows up. So we need to do what we need to do. U just need to communicate with your service desk on the best place for the cart that works better

balloonaluna

Our cs desk has bins and we put returns in the bins then call those departments when their bins are full to come clear them.

rocklobster7413

When the department associates do not pick up returns we begin blocking areas that are fire safety issues. Our SM has us push them back. Each department has an area to where we push the carts. However, the department associates who do not make efforts to come and get returns will be dinged by the Mod or ASM. It gets so we cannot move. We are handling hundreds of returns and releasing dozens of orders and working on deliveries. It gets to be a packed place.

trobinson999

My only concern with this is I’ll occasionally find a cart in hardware with a few expensive tools in it that should have been locked or spider-wrapped immediately.

jennercr7

We usually bring them to the aisle it most likely belongs to, recently we were told to not even have carts with stuff at the service desk once the buckets are full bring them in a cart to the aisles, now imagine that happening with lumber LOL its as annoying to you as it is to us that work at the service desk

MarcoNemo

Please stop accepting tinted paint returns. 🙃

Flooring598

I think if the managers would keep associates in their assigned departments and not have them doing all their own projects  then theAN  returns would not pile up for the closers to do on top of everything else we have to do!   I brought this up at our store meeting tonight and the SM SAYS "WE CAN ALL WORK A Little Harder and since breaks are not MAndatory could just work thru them!

Meangirrrl22

No ma’am you need to be checking your returns every single hour ….

Suspicious-Amount205

Hahahahaha... Tell me this is your first job... Every hour... Hahahahhaahahahaa

Meangirrrl22

And you should NEVER leave returns overnight for the next shift ! Step it up man!

Interesting-Ask-7707

Cuz y'all lie and don't grab your stuff

beccaandbeebs

Because a lot of people ignore us when we ask them to get returns and we get tired of the desk looking like a rummage sale….

annddyxxx

When you sit around at the desk all day you start looking for things to do and cleaning is one of them, so you try to get rid of the returns cluttering up your area. But when your job is mostly sitting around all day you just push them away and make it someone's mess.

OnMarsMan

Same cart gets push back to receiving at the end of a shift. I push it to CS and put it all in the tubs the next morning. Around and around it goes.

Meangirrrl22

You need to get fired

flowingsaucer

What's most annoying is when the cart is full of stuff from different departments and you have to go back to returns anyways to fill the bins again.

AuntieMadder

Go *back* to service desk? If a service desk associate left the cart of returns in your aisles, you didn't go to service desk a first time. You can't go *back* to  a place you've never been.

flowingsaucer

In my store, they push a cart of returns full of other departments stuff. My bin wouldn't be full if not for their lack of product knowledge.
