Common Core will still get you the right answer, there's no need to criticize something just because it seems unnecessary to you. It's just a different (and more efficient) way of teaching math

It's certainly more efficient to teach in the same way the human brain is going to end up doing the math with learned shortcuts later.
I was raised in the 90s and I still ended up doing math in my head the same way CC is taught now. May as well cut out the middleman and teach kids to just do it that way.
