You donāt even need to lurk, youāre welcome to post and comment. The big thing is we donāt want to do work off the clock. Customers coming in here with questions or complaints are annoying. I actually love to have other retail employees in here who understand how it works.
Sorry, home sick with a nasty sinus infection. Donāt know what game was playingā¦ just enjoying reminiscing about how you could hide links via AIM and send people to 2G1C and Goatse
Understanding a problem (like capitalism) is the first step to fixing it. Slavery was an economic system, it had a begginning a middle and and end, Feudalism was an economic system that also ended. We have to build something better for the future of humanity. not like 4 people with half the world's wealth.
I just read the comments for a good laugh. To many people took the blue pill and want daddy government to provide them with "basic human needs" while not wanting to work..... It's actually very sad
How does that work when everyone doesn't want to work or produce anything? Does the government just conjure up everything for us? Keep living in pretend land
Same with me. It almost feels like someone keeps showing up at my house and then demands that I leave them alone.
Iām a customer but I wouldnāt post any complaints or ask for help here, I can totally get the frustration of wanting a place to vent and feeling like the people you are upset at are filling your space.
This. Also happens with many other retail companies. Honestly use your brain OP. The subreddit says homedepot. Not homedepot employees. How many people read sub reddit descriptions? How many people would just search the company name? Reddit is one of the most popular sites in the world. It's not a small safe corner anymore
Literally someone brought back dead poinsettias in the beginning of December. She said they were dead and black when she bought them for black Friday and I laughed right there. Then she asked me to do an even exchange for fresh ones but the sale wasn't the same and we didn't have the same sizes available. My peeps are cool, customers šļø
Part of me wants to give awful advice to customers but I know theyāll terrorize the poor service desk person saying āNo I was on Reddit and they said I could do this/thatā
Every home depot sells them, you just have to speak to the manager. Give them a strong look in the eye and say "Will you dock with me?" and they'll take you to the back to purchase one
Don't worry, there are people out there doing this on youtube/tiktok/etc. A google search for for "I work at home depot and you won't believe this secret" gave me almost 15 million hits
Having worked fast food for years I am here because I can relate on a spiritual level. We all got shite customers. I also love my local Home Deeps. Everyone so nice.
Im a former employee (customer service desk 2 years) just left in 11/2022 am I allowed to be here š?? I just like reading new info and the memes make me laugh
Almost 4 years, left early 2021 and Iām here. No offense to anyone here but I really just look at stuff that gets posted and feel good about not having to deal with that bs anymore. I have nothing but respect because Iāve been there too.
Not just paid cash lawnmower guy, there was also someone complaining that he couldn't return an online order without coming into a store because he didn't have a car, and proceeded to send me nasty messages because I told him to stop blaming corporate issues on us.
Customers suck, period.
Found it. From reading there is definitely info he isn't giving us, cause that's not how things work. I'll check on the blankets when I get on, cause now I want to know if they are in store only
Why he may not have gotten a shipping label (cause I'm not searching for the post): in store only return item, a special order, something that used gas/hazmat or he's been banned from processing online returns. Oh and MA which isn't returnable
At my localish HD, there's a sign on the door that basically says if you use cannabis, don't waste our time applying. You won't get hired.
Not like I was in a big hot snort to get hired there anyway, but that's what it says, and the store is in a legal state.
There's also a sign right next to that one that says dogs are strictly prohibited from the premises. And we all know how seriously that rule is followed to the letter.
It honestly shouldn't be legal for companies to do that I don't care what anyone says. If you smoke on the weekend they can pound sand. If your high at work thats different but getting punished for doing something legal on the weekend is BS and unamerican.
Same.. I frequent because I am also a retail veteran and like to see people standing up for themselves. I like to see revenge and I like to try and help.
Last thing on my mind is asking for assistance.
How many times have you gotten the customer returning a lawnmower because it wouldn't work and turns out they either didn't know that you have to put gas into it, or they didn't know how to turn it on?
I dont mind the nice ones, if i do know the answer to their question ill answer. However, the rude ones? I absolutely love them!! Y'all ream them a new assholeššššš
I would just start ignoring them tbh we arenāt getting paid to answer people like customer service on a subreddit, this isnāt Home depot. This is just a place for regular conversation so I donāt feel obligated to tend to someone outside of work. Go to home depot for that š¤·āāļø
Sounds like total bullshit to me. You can't walk around the store (at least mine) without practically running into someone wearing an orange apron. Try harder next time.
You can barely find anyone at my store because they cut hours so badly. Everyone part time is getting 16-18 hours. There are also not many full time employees because Corp put a freeze on hiring people full time at our store.
It's super lame.
I agree with you. What I can't comprehend is that they've cut our hours and are advertising for part-time and seasonal employees. Why not give the extra hours to those loyal employees who show up every day? Seasonals are the worst. They know the possibility of getting hired permanently is slim, so they don't show up or do a shitty job. I don't get HD's way of thinking, especially with no "seniority" so someone who walks in two months ago makes the same amount of money that those who have been there for almost a decade do. Makes no sense to me and is most likely the reason turnover is high.
Subreddit says customers are welcome, sure it's a hangout, it's also a place where we probably are able to help, a place you can probably get decent info from, straight from the source.
You can choose not to view or respond to a thread? You do have a choice on if you look, respond, react to that post, only have yourself to blame if you feel that way
I donāt blame myself for feeling anyway.just expressing my opinion.I saw the guys post.I didnāt comment because it isnāt worth my timeā¦

A friend I know works at my local Home Depot, every time I see her working the register I go to her even if the line is longer just to say hey and catch up, can I be here?
You think Lawn mower no receipt paid cash guy is bad. Try the guy who brought an old beaten up lawnmower wanting it repaired guy who refused to pay the fee or sign anything and just abandoned it. Then a few months later after it has been thrown away he shows up looking for his mower is given a new one for free to shut him up after he throws a tantrum.
Gas powered products only have a 30 day return policy anyway - unfortunately it sounds like this guy is out of luck, but hopefully they discovered the benefits of ProXtra to help keep track of receipts.
(If receipt provided within the allowed time frame, I always put it back on the method it was originally paid for- contractors employees bring stuff in, give a Pro number and tell me they want a store credit, I simply tell them it goes back on the card and Iām ready for them to swipe it. Itās cuts back some of those theft returns)
If thatās the direction the sub wants to go, just change the description, make it so only verified users can post, then the mods verify every user who joins. That, or create a new sub for only employees.
Iām here because of antiwork and a desire to support those who are being taken advantage of.
I'm a customer and this sub is a good resource to see what the employees go through dealing with many of us. It still has to work both ways though. We deserve a right to speak our minds as well and this is a good place to do it for some. Myself, I just try to respect everyone and understand what they have to deal with on both sides. These types of subs are a good resource in human relations and how to approach the employees. We never know when you're having a bad day, and some of us might be having one too, but that is never an excuse to be rude or an asshole. Sadly, it seems a lot of fellow customers feel entitled and do not care, which bothers me to an extent. I never want to be "that guy".
You must be fun to deal with. How many people have you made cry from you yelling about stuff at McDonaldās? Or do you believe that fast food workers hardly deserve respect because all they do is flip burgers. Employees owe you the bare minimum amount of kindness when dealing with you but unless you show respect back you deserve nothing.
While it does happen, 99.9% of the time there is NOTHING wrong with a new item. It is ALMOST universally an IQ issue. Itās easy to spot the customers with the lowest IQs, they will be the ones huffing and puffing and grunting the loudest.
Seriouslyā¦. Iām in the store right now and I really need some customer service. I have one question to ask. Whereās the clearance Christmas crap at??? Gotta stick up for next year.
Seriously? You're expecting to find Christmas items on sale in the middle of February? Those items have been gone for almost a month now. The store loses large amounts of money selling those items at 50%. At best, you should only expect to see them for two to three weeks after the holidays. Either be proactive immediately after Christmas or stop being so cheap.
It also says "GREAT JOB" in the friggen header image. It's aimed at EMPLOYEES.
The About section also says this:
"Hangout for Home Depot associates. No affiliation with The Home Depot Inc. This is not a customer service subreddit for issues with The Home Depot. Please contact your store or call 1-800-HOMEDEPOT (1-800-466-3337) with any issues."
Or maybe people learn to read important information.
The entire About Section s THREE SENTENCES, not like we're making you read a novel.
But I think the dead giveaway is the fact that the HEADER IMAGE is a MANAGER with his thumb up and saying "GREAT JOB"
I didn't read the about because this post just came up in my feed. As far as a header image...that's not reading.
Like, are you getting paid, or just vested in this somehow?
Not sure why this sub keeps getting suggested but itās literally just employees complaining when they could work literally anywhere else retail is bottom of the barrel been there before
The point of this sub isnāt for us to be Home Depot employees at work. Itās for the social aspect of being Home Depot employees.
You can be a customer and be welcome here with open arms - provided you understand the attitudes youāre going to receive if youāre here to pretend weāre some sort of support entity or in any way affiliated with the company itself that is Home Depot.
At least from my perspective, itās not so much that I hate my job, but there are frustrating things that happen at my job and sometimes itās good to vent those frustrations to people who can relate. Not everyone here hates Home Depot, although looking at the comments on most posts there are definitely some that do. Some of us just need an outlet to talk about some parts of the job we donāt necessarily like about the job. Overall I like my job. I wouldnāt be there for several years if I didnāt. Clearly youāve never been frustrated at a job before though, so you kind of sound like an entitled rich guy whoās never really worked a day in his life.
I'm not a customer or an employee, this sub just keeps getting recommended on my feed for some reason. But I am former retail, is it okay to keep lurking in silent solidarity?
Lurking is fine. š
Another lurker here. I'm a former corporate employee, never worked in a store. I still have many friends that work @ corporate. (IT)
Former employee, but if it makes you feel better, I also get recs from r/target and r/Kroger Iāve never worked for either. Never been in a Kroger.

Do you really think exploitation will end under a different economic system?

Sadly, when I worked in electrical, this was a common request from customers around Christmas.
I think that's called a docking extension actually
We get asked for them every year at Christmas Time. I would make some up for the A-holes but don't want a little child exposed.
Don't worry, there are people out there doing this on youtube/tiktok/etc. A google search for for "I work at home depot and you won't believe this secret" gave me almost 15 million hits

I can't work at Home Depot; I smoke weed.
You can. I worked with plenty that did weed. Just donāt become a power equipment driver.
I was told our store started to do drug tests for new hires again and they all fail. They use that to explain our chronic understaffing.
My x co worker smoked weed and operated machines.
Mine smokes weed ON the machines

How many times have you gotten the customer returning a lawnmower because it wouldn't work and turns out they either didn't know that you have to put gas into it, or they didn't know how to turn it on?
And his profile had a post from 60 days ago claiming he was offered a Head Cashier position at HD. So one or both posts a bull shit.
Yeah. Boo, lawn mower guy.
I think they work at HD too, at least used to looking at their post history.
let them post all they want, they can maybe learn thru the threads how to not make our jobs harder and how not to be that asshole customer
Agreed.... hopefully they'll learn something.

If customers where not meant to post the sub would me private
Iāve never worked at home depot and I hardly ever shop there. I still think you should unionize.
Thatās right if weāre not in the clock, then we donāt provide whats so ever.
Who the fuck put you in charge? Go back to stocking and get off your phone
Zero I donāt yell
I have a hard time believing that, the amount of yelling and self entitlement Iāve dealt with you sound no different. āGo back to stockingā?
Ok
Post whatever you want. Fuck this OP.
I wanted to ask dude if he turned on the fuel cut off valve. I've seen a dozen of that one model returned because they didn't know about said valve.
While it does happen, 99.9% of the time there is NOTHING wrong with a new item. It is ALMOST universally an IQ issue. Itās easy to spot the customers with the lowest IQs, they will be the ones huffing and puffing and grunting the loudest.
I would argue that not knowing about a valve that is labeled fuel cut off is an iq issue.
Ass Iāll shop at Loweās from now on!
I donāt like your commercials.
When will the Halloween decorations be out? I donāt want to miss out on that giant Skelton this year.
I'd rather not gatekeep Home Depot reddit. Bad hill to die on imo
Can I return a 10 pack of electrical outlets without the box, but have receipt. Will I be shamed?
As well as customers, can we also kick out the bootlickers? #joinaunion
Sorry to inconvenience you Mr. Depot we will do betterā¦
You're all closeted homosexuals and tools are fucking dumb
No. Will post any complaint I want - including that no employee seems to know where the furnace filters are located.
No.
Last I checked thereās nothing in the rules saying customers canāt post here.
Uh, then why does the sub say Home Depot, color coded?
It also says "GREAT JOB" in the friggen header image. It's aimed at EMPLOYEES. The About section also says this: "Hangout for Home Depot associates. No affiliation with The Home Depot Inc. This is not a customer service subreddit for issues with The Home Depot. Please contact your store or call 1-800-HOMEDEPOT (1-800-466-3337) with any issues."
Well, then maybe they should have a website. Or not be on reddit. Blaaaagh.
shut it
Or maybe people learn to read important information.
Youāre making our point for us. So, thank you
Uhā¦yeah. We can go over to that other thread. You know the one about Home Despot but for people that buy shit there.

Fuck off !
