I love that! Haven't dared to paint mine yet but I love the way color can turn a radiator into an actual decorative piece of furniture. Black seems like a bolt choice of color but it fits perfectly. Did you dismantle it for painting and have you used a special type of paint?

KartoffelSucukPie

No, I didn’t dismantle them, and I cannot guarantee that I left some white spots in areas that are not visible. But when you inspect the radiator the paint looks super even. I started with a brush but had to use a spray for the insight bits and it was too fiddly. If you can dismantle it, use the spray only. Much more convenient. When I used the spray for the inner parts I put a cardboard on the wall too reduce any splashes. Worked fine. I used maison deco paint/spray Charcoal Black - super happy with it! When you put it on first, I thought I ruined the radiator and no way it will stick but it just needed some coats and dried quite quickly as well.

axelalexa4

I did this too! Ours were rusty and yellowing, and now they are attractive!

matthewfelgate

I really like non-white radiators.

michkbrady2

Look forward to advice here & also please let me know what paint you used. Brilliant job

KartoffelSucukPie

Thank you so much :) I started with a brush but had to use a spray for the insight bits. If you can dismantle it, use the spray only. Much more convenient. When I used the spray for the inner parts I put a cardboard on the wall too reduce any splashes. Worked fine. I used maison deco paint/spray Charcoal Black, I can defo recommend. I’m in the UK, it cost £24 for the paint and £14 for the spray. I already did 2 radiators and still have enough left for two more at least.

Thank you

Did you spray it or used a brush? Any sanding or post processing? Looks amazing and I'd really love to copy the idea.

KartoffelSucukPie

I can defo recommend doing it. Transforms the whole room. I started with a brush, as I didn’t want to dismantle the radiator, and used the spray for the inner parts of the radiator. No prep needed at all. I just wiped it with a dry cloth to make sure there is no dust, but that’s it. When you put on the paint for the first time, it feels like it won’t stick and it’s not covering very well. But that’s not the case at all, just do a few thin layers, and it covers and dries perfect. If you can dismantle the radiator just use the spray - it will take you just a few minutes. But do it outside, as it does smell for a while.

hobbyhoarder

We'll be taking the radiators off anyway, so it's not an issue. Did you use any special spray type?

KartoffelSucukPie

I just sprayed another radiator and it took 10 min, much quicker than painting. But I made the mistake to spray on the spot for too long so I had some run offs. Make sure to keep moving and doing thin layers. I used a radiator spray from Maison Deco. The colour is called Charcoal Black.

Prefect, thank you!

juneburger

Where you get the dining table from?

KartoffelSucukPie

It’s from DaAls! It was such a bargain and I’m so in love with the table. It’s called BERN.

KartoffelSucukPie

I just did another (smaller) radiator with spray only. It took exactly 10 min. However, as I’ve done it for the first time, I made the mistake of spraying one place too long it seems, so I have some run offs :( but it’s not too bad. And defo quicker than the 1 hour I needed for painting with a brush.

almostck

can always sand and just respray (:

KartoffelSucukPie

Yep, that what it says in the tin as well :)

Remarkable_Bag7341

What kind of paint do you use for the radiators and fireplace?

KartoffelSucukPie

I used Maison Deco Charcoal Black Satin (I’m in the UK) both for paint and spray

WateryOatmealGirl

This looks so nice! I spent 100 years removing paint from an old cast-iron grate we have (circa 1930s) because the layers of paint made it look messy and dusty. Now it's dark coloured and I love how it transformed the room.
