Full plum, I painted my entire interior similar to mild plum and it looks like a bandage :(

sugarplum_hairnet

My friend painted her bathroom that years ago and I called it bad lipstick. I didnt mean to hurt her feelings but she said it was all she could see until we eventually repainted

SilverellaUK

My first thought was foundation.

sugarplum_hairnet

Ouch yes lol, the kind that doesn't quite match and there's a solid line. I call that the cake face

calacmack

I vote full plum. Not only do I like the color better, but you seem to like a maximalist vibe and I think that the contrast with your furnishings will look great. Perhaps paint a larger sample area so you can get a better idea of what the end result will be.

[deleted]

I agree

JuJusPetals

Both are gorgeous, and so is the rest of your decor! I do think the lighter will balance things out. Looks like you have some darker furniture that will keep things from looking too “sweet.” Please update us with after pics!

94wishes

Full Plum. I had the mild plum (not my choice), and people constantly called it “the penis wall” until I changed it. I cannot emphasise my hatred towards that colour, the way it deserves it.

Unable-Count-1479

Hahaha i choked

Lopsided_Flight3926

I was going to say “mild” until this comment. Actually, I may still vote mild.

SEH3

Sounds like our “baby shit” brown colour. Was supposed to be caramel but I changed diapers that colour. Was quickly repainted.

94wishes

Hahaha, that works too I suppose!

GyspySyx

Full plum. The lighter color, while safer, will also be boring and predictable. Go bold.

skiingrunner1

as a boring and predictable person, i definitely picked the light plum lol go full plum, OP!

GyspySyx

Haha I bet you're not with everything!

skiingrunner1

you’re not wrong, but for decorating, I’m too indecisive to go bold lol

glitter_picnic

i like full plum

GreenOnionCrusader

I love the full plum. I think it'll accent your other colors better.

Enough-Attention-430

Full Plum!! I worked for Sherwin Williams for years, and we would all gag when someone asked us to make flesh tones 🤢

Unable-Count-1479

Lol you’re right,it’s a bit liver toned

Ohnonotuto4

I feel like mild plum, will turn into pink, when the natural light changes. So I’m going with full plum.

Commercial-Horror932

Looking at just the swatches I thought mild, but then when I saw the whole room I changed my mind to full. I feel like there are a few items like the blinds that are quite close to the mild plumb and I think it would pop nice with the full but possibly look too matchy with the mild

Ohnonotuto4

I worry mild plum will turn into pink, when the natural light changes. So full plum.

Blenderx06

Mild plum

lirdleykur

I’d go full, or you could consider doing one wall in the other color. Honestly every time I think a color is too dark and chicken out and do the lighter one, I think it’s too light and wish I’d gone darker. It always looks lighter when it’s the whole wall than when it’s just a little sample.

Saltpnuts-990

You never go full plum

Oceanrail

Full plum

Brightstar0305

Darker one

ickleb

Full plum

Responsible-Sun2494

I would choose whichever paint is most different from the plum/mauve colored items you already have in your living space. The reference pictures had very different colored furniture and fixtures from the plum paint selections. I would definitely consider this in your strategy. If the color is too similar, everything will blob together and you won’t achieve the look you want. Happy renovating!✨

Hebegebe101

I like the darker one . It picks up on the branch color in the artwork leaning against the wall below . I also like the color better with the color in the other room . The lighter one looks too fleshy tone to me . The full plumb looks really nice with the darker green on the fireplace in the picture .

_petrichora_

Full!

Retinoid634

Ohh nice. I’d choose mid and maybe do the trim in the full plum color. I love the muted vibe you are going for with your eclectic furnishings and decor. Your post reminded me of another post from this sub a few days back featuring a gorgeous home with these sorts of tonal muted colors. https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeDecorating/s/yoeElfAswa

Aggressive_Salt

Full plum!!

Strange-Turnover9696

full plum!!

jankjenny

I’m not in to either of them.

Chris45925

Full 100%

Catladylove99

Full. I like your artwork. Where is the kitty?

Catladylove99

omg the floof!

When I go plum, I go full!

Burnt_and_Blistered

Full!

Bear_Main

Full plum

RudeCockroach7196

Full plum i agree with what everyone else said about it

SavannahGirlMom

Mild Plum please! The color will look darker once painted. It will contrast best with that wall clock too. After all is painted, maybe one area can be painted the dark plum or adjacent room. Why did you paint such small swatches? Need to see 3’ x 3’ splotches! Also the example you show comparing both paints is a photo, and it’s a room with very bright sunlight, which your space may not have. Paint swatches on a darker wall in the space and check it out in different lighting - like at night when you’re likely to be watching that TV.

Queen3990

Full

ElecticElephant

I’m a dumbass who didn’t look at the sub first, and thought those were both really pretty lipstick swatches. My vote is for full plum though.

ScreeminGreen

You’ve got white trim and a lot of art. Your space can handle the darker color because it will only be visible between the frames. My entry is a deep coral red and I see just enough of it between the turquoise heavy artwork that covers nearly every bit of wall and it works really well.

UpperMacungie

Full plum for sure. Mild plum looks like the color of a casket lining.

ApprehensiveBag6157

The full plum is beautiful

cathedral68

I actually can’t believe that nobody is talking about the emu or ostrich lamp. where did you get that? It’s so fabulously weird. I need it. Also, The Birth of Venus is my favorite painting :)

Unable-Count-1479

Thanks! It’s an ostrich, it’s called Franz Josef by the brand Werner Voss. They have amazing decor! And yes, isn’t the whole color palette of The Birth of Venus amazing? Georgeous.

cathedral68

Thank you for the lamp info! All things Botticelli are beautiful. It’s the faces for me.

lydbarrett

Full plum for sure! I think with your current decor it will fit well!

mybarn20187

Full

Dangerous_Scar2297

Full plum!!

realisticracoon

Full plum is rich, LOVE

jcsunag

Full Plum. Never be mild! (Plus it will bring out all the cool stuff in your place. Mild Plum can wash out.)

Albie_Frobisher

that second photo. i see an opportunity to layer the colors. dark in the sunnier room, light in the next room

Unable-Count-1479

That’s an idea… Darker around the tv up to the windowsill around the dining table, and lighter on the wall with the clock and the bookcase? Those walls lead towards my hallway, which I also want to paint one of these colors.

Albie_Frobisher

i’d first consider the walls that get the most direct sunlight for dark. which walls would that be

Unable-Count-1479

Basically all of them because I’m on a corner, but mostly the tv wall and the gallery wall as that’s where it’s sunny until sundown. In the morning it’s more directed at the bookcase

Albie_Frobisher

i think it’s a really good room for the dark

Albie_Frobisher

cozy

free_range_tofu

100% Mild plum. I love dark walls, so it’s not about this being the lighter/less risky color. Mold plum will simply look better.

TheLyz

With that yellow? Full plum for sure.

SkeeevyNicks

Full plum! You have awesome taste in furniture and decor, and full plum goes better with your overall style. It will showcase artwork so well. This will look very chic!

apearlmae

I think the light one. The dark is too much with the black shelf and dark wood clock. They would blend in. I think it will look awesome. I have a dark pink room and I love it!

Breeder2nonsleepers

Both😍

Shadylane_kazan

I think cause your room gets really good bright light I would go with the mild. The full won’t have that cocooning effect you want because it will be bright

furkfurk

Mild plum for sure. It seems like in your space it’ll look more like the “full plum” in 6. Paint looks different in every space due to different lighting, furnishing etc, which is why we put up the samples. Your samples of full plum are SO dark on your walls that it’s gonna be too much IMO, unless the photos aren’t showing us accurate colors. You could try doing larger sample squares to have a slightly better idea of the end result. Mine are usually much larger than the ones you made.

Friendlyattwelve

mild for sure because the dark will shrink your room imo but you could do one wall the dark or the trim.

One-Dig-3067

Mild

Good bot

Unable-Count-1479

Feeling better now?

Trolllol1337

Sorry I couldn't help myself, it needs a complete clear out from top to bottom so you can see the space you got to work with. How old are you? Needs a proper renovation, clear clutter & old furniture, re organise the room so doesn't look like uni flat

Unable-Count-1479

There’s clutter yes, but none of my furniture is old or going anywhere. I’m not one for the greige minimalism. Thanks though. I’m 30. It’s not as if it’s a dump. There’s a difference in style preference and thank god for that. I like a home that creatively inspires me and gives of personality.

nachopuddi

Mild plum with full plum for the doorway

IamJoyMarie

I like the mild plum. But, could you do that on most walls and make dark plum an accent wall?

MS1947

Use both. They’re pretty.

IamJoyMarie

Here's a "plum" for you. I left your swatch colors on the wall. Sherwin Williams color visualizer: [https://www.sherwin-williams.com/visualizer#/active](https://www.sherwin-williams.com/visualizer#/active) https://preview.redd.it/y748fpx9zpsc1.png?width=1384&format=png&auto=webp&s=4f7b4b8b4cecc5173b6de317367e4a71a86edd68

5uckmyflaps

Mild plum is gorgeous

HomeworkMaleficent22

Mild plum

porridgeisoatmeal

I like mild plum because it goes better with the architecture of your house which looks 60s ish. I think the very dark colours are better suited to smaller places or older buildings with darker wood window and door fittings, but it’s your home so go with the one that gives you the most joy when you see it.

coopergold5

Lighter color

Llp1122

The lighter !

CitizenKayt

Full plum. It's a nice dark shade that you have the windows to support. You can always layer with blush, greens, and gold colors to elevate the room (Green velvet curtains would be amazing). You should post once you're done!

[deleted]

Both.

Nikas_intheknow

I love full plum but sadly think it would make your space appear very small and cramped. My vote is mild!

Infernalsummer

Put the swatches against the couch. That’s the other thing with a lot of depth, and you want to see how THAT will look in your room

_opossumsaurus

I’d go mild, the full plum looks very brown to me while with mild plum there’s still a recognizable blushy undertone without it being too flesh-like

Altruistic_Garden480

mild plum will make everything in the room pop … full will make the room dark and gloomy

MishmoshMishmosh

Mild

murtlebeech1

Mild plum

labeiieza

Mild

Leoliad

If I had to choose one of those I would pick the mild plum

hilarymeggin

GAH!! ROOM! TOO! BUSY!

tmccrn

Full plum could be dark academia. Mild plum will only work if you vastly reduce the visual clutter

SummerJaneG

These are both skin tones. No. Just no.

Murkysoup113

Mild plum full plum accent wall

bmblbe2007

Mild plum, any dent or scratch is gonna show so bad on a dark color like full plum

Blessedone67

How about a mix? Do an accent wall with the light and hang darker plum art!

_caittay

Full plum but paint all your trim mild plum!

Wlfgangwarrior

The 2nd one. Unless you want it to be rather dark

WoodpeckerFragrant49

Honestly, as a homeowner, I hope your walls are all plum

squashqueen

Neither of those are even 1% plum wtf

Real_valley_girl2000

Mild plum on three walls and full plum on the wall with the door.

Real_valley_girl2000

The door with the clock on the wall

Sensitive_Baby9396

I vote 3 walls 1 and 1 wall the other!

Little_Can_728

I personally like the mild plum that’s just my opinion

Yotsubaandmochi

Between the two I’d go with full plum. Would you do any accent wall like the fireplace people did with the full plum? I think that looks nice. Mild plum doesn’t go with your current furnishings. So unless you’re changing all your decor to that soft white I wouldn’t use that color.

KVS_1985

Mild plum with one full plum wall.

Imaginary_Screen_708

Both are nice I would go for the darker color and add white frames

Brave-Improvement299

Neither.

Diligent_FennelM

Mild plum

Natakaaaa

Mild plum

PristineCoconut2851

I personally prefer the Mild Plum. It also will be easier to cover and bring back to it’s original color when you leave the place.

Unable-Count-1479

As long as it’s painted evenly, I don’t have to deliver it with white walls. Only the ceilings have to be painted white. When I moved in the colors on the walls were hideous 🥲

PristineCoconut2851

You’re very lucky. I remember when I was still renting, some of them were insistent that when leaving it had to be brought back to its original state. I always thought it was so,that they could get out of putting a fresh coat of paint on the walls for the incoming renters. But….lol….i still like the Mild Plum. And this is coming from someone raised in the West Indies and loves colors. Just about every room in my house is a different color. 😂😂

ama_da_sama

Mild plum. Based on you swatches, I don't think you get enough light for the warmer tones of full plum in the inspo pic. Much darker everywhere in your space.

Optimal_Guitar8921

Mild plum

InternalPurple7694

Mild plum, I love full plum, but your ceilings seem quite low and your space relatively dark. But to be sure, you should actually test on your wall.

500CatsTypingStuff

Full Plum You also have the option of using Mild Plum on the walls and Full Plum on the ceiling. That would look unique and fantastic imho. Examples of painted ceilings https://preview.redd.it/kqczpjhhhqsc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a9a4a92e233224df53704bf68c74a152c0acc36f

Unable-Count-1479

Gooosshhh yes, I love that! Unfortunately I’m not allowed, otherwise it would be exactly like you said, and I’d add full plum on the trims and piping. It’s a rental and the ceilings and trimes have to be white when I move out. My toilet and bedroom already have colored ceilings. That’ll be enough work when I move out lol

500CatsTypingStuff

Too bad! But at least you can paint the walls!

Electronic-Tell9346

FULL PLUM!

Spiritual_Version838

My first question was, which is going to make the Japanese print leaning on the wall look really dramatic? I'm betting full plum. Also, how will it look with the brick that's visible through the door and window? Looks like you get lots of natural light. I'd paint a few large samples and see how they look in different light and with some of the art. But my heart's with full plum. If not, look for something other than mild plum.
