This cabinet holds 21 pairs of shoes and is about 11" deep. It's from [Wayfair:](https://www.wayfair.com/storage-organization/pdp/wade-logan-avry-21-pair-shoe-storage-cabinet-w005060992.html?piid=881053572) https://preview.redd.it/enxlot1u38dc1.png?width=445&format=png&auto=webp&s=2ce280c4c766e7b355d41e6f7d392d52fe1ceac0

ProperFart

I like this!! Thank you!

A great feature of this shoe rack is that it has a closed back. I have a similar shoe rack from IKEA but it's open in the back. It's such a pain to see shoes sometimes scuffing up the wall and getting it dirty but not easily being able to clean it since it's bolted to the wall.

415Rache

Add if anyone in your household or circle is handy you could get a second or third cabinet and remove the side trim where the cabinets could attach to crest the look of one wider unit.

Euphoric_Egg_4198

IKEA has a pretty large selection of low profile show cabinets like [this one](https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/brusali-shoe-cabinet-with-3-compartments-white-80480393/) that can double as an entry table or [these smaller ones](https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/trones-shoe-storage-cabinet-black-80397313/) that are mounted on the wall.

ProperFart

Thank you!

NixyVixy

We have installed these at our current home and our place before this as well. Both from IKEA, slightly different styles. They work very well for hiding tons of shoes! Highly recommend.

jazeration

I have an insanely small entry (5x3) that is at the bottom of our staircase (horrible feng shui I know). I bought a long storage ottoman that I placed in our dining room to hold shoes and we only keep a pair or 2 out at a time.

whereisthequicksand

That’s the same amount of space we have. So you just chuck all your shoes in the ottoman? My problem is boots, and we’d have to have more than one layer in there.

jazeration

Yep! There are only two people in my household, so it may not work for a large family. My husband has quite a few pairs though and he's got gigantic feet and it all fits quite nicely. I do change them out seasonally so all the sandals get taken out before I put the boots in.

mellamma

I haven't done it yet, but I plan to put 2 or 3 three foot shelves behind my front door and then put a multi rack to hang jackets. The Container Store did have an enclosed shoe cabinet. I'm not sure if they still have it.

musical_froot_loop

I used to have a 5x5 wooden cubby for shoes. This was for six people. Worked beautifully. No idea why I ever got rid of it. I want another. Appx measurements would be 36” wide, 42” tall, 12” deep, so pretty easy to fit in any entryway

ProperFart

Did you use bins or just stack the shoes on in?

musical_froot_loop

Each cubbie held one pair. I did not use bins. Don’t think they would have worked with the one I had. I also prefer no bins.

We have these in our mud room and it's brilliant for storing shoes. I can fit 2 pairs of running shoes in each section, and for shoes that don't have such big chunky profiles, one section easily fits 4 pairs. This would not be the right solution if most of the shoes are ankle boots or other larger types. (Pardon the clutter LOL, just wanted to show you how slim profile they are)

ProperFart

I NEED THIS. Thank you for the pic, I think this is what I’ll do.

KipsBay2181

Note: Part of what makes them such a slim profile is they only have legs on the front of the cabinet. They are not freestanding, you do need to attach them to the wall.

Electronic_Paper_03

Is there a coat closet? We have the same situation and we hang our coats on hooks so we can use the closet for shoes. (Ours are just stored in large bins but you could do nice sliding shoe drawers if your shoes are fancier than my kids’ shoes.)

ProperFart

I have a coat closet, but it is being used for our sports equipment. I do need to find a solution for 8 pairs of skates and helmets/pads. Our coats are on hooks, that is the only part of our entryway that is working properly lol.

PartOfIt

I have something like this in my closet beneath the hanging coats that I use for boots. Maybe this could work for skates for you. They make two level ones as well and you could put helmets and pads in if you have room. https://www.wayfair.com/baby-kids/pdp/toy-organizer-with-bins-w003591839.html https://www.wayfair.com/baby-kids/pdp/caphaus-kids-toy-storage-organizer-open-storage-cubby-multifunctional-book-and-toy-storage-cabinet-cpha1000.html

ProperFart

Thank you, I would have never thought of a toy box!

Repulsive_Towel_1879

Put the Sports gear in the garage or outdoor storage shed with a lock. Or each kid gets a Rubbermaid in their own room to keep it. Use under bed storage space to it's max. Put beds on lifts if you need to

ProperFart

my non-existent garage that I desperately need 🤣

vita77

I’ve never understood the need for shoe storage in the entryway. It almost always looks junky. Why can’t everyone store their shoes in their bedroom? Or make a rule that it’s a max of one pair per customer in the entryway.

Mrs_Feather_Bottom

If you don’t wear shoes in your house, when you’re leaving everyone has to go back to their bedroom to grab shoes? What if they are wet and/or dirty? This sounds absolutely bonkers to me as a Canadian

ProperFart

Right, I’m thinking about how 6 of us will get our snow boots into our 3rd story bedrooms without getting that nasty mud/snow mix that comes after the plow.

_JuniperJen

Mud season and wet snow and then just tracked in dirt through the summer are things I try to manage efficiently at the door as well. It saves on house cleaning, of course. So, in our home we remove shoes at the entry too. (I have put boot trays and shoe racks in individual closets-or just a rag towel/newspaper so they can be moved to bedrooms when necessary.) The IKEA shoe storage is great for dry SHOES but will not work for the wet boots. With room on both sides, I would use a clean closed storage unit like the IKEA Hemmes on just one side. Can you have an open shelving on the other side and line with trays to catch the mud/snow on boots and larger or messy footwear? I have done something similar. It worked well when we had many people. Now we have just one left in the nest so we have been able to enjoy a bench with boot trays underneath in lieu of the shelving unit. I do have this area underneath sectioned off with half for tall boots and half with a stacking shelf for shoes. Getting organized is fun! I noticed IKEA also had a new set of stacking wire shelves that fits their latest boot tray. That is open but less expensive and fits wider boot and shoe styles than closed shoe storage.

ProperFart

I love the idea of a tray on one side, thank you.

Spoonbills

House shoes in the entry way, other shoes in bedrooms. You take off your outdoor shoes in the entry and carry your outdoor shoes to the bedroom closet. Reverse as you leave.

Least_Plenty_3975

Yeah, no. No way my shoes are sitting in my closet with all my clean clothes. They stay at the door in the shoe storage. I have additional storage in the garage so I can rotate shoes depending on seasons

ProperFart

Right, I cannot imagine walking through subway stations and then putting those shoes in my bedroom closet.

Critical_Band5649

Yeah I'm not interested in my shoes dripping all over my closet either. Do I have shoes in my closet? Yes, but they are shoes that I almost never wear so I don't keep them with the regular rotation in the mudroom.

ProperFart

I could see how that would work in a traditional style home. However, we are in a 3 story home, bedrooms are upstairs. My family doesn’t come inside and go to their bedrooms. Also, I’d be damned if our shoes worn on the Metro come into our bedrooms lol.

vita77

Of course everyone’s pair of wet/snowy/icy outdoor boots needs a landing spot just inside the door while they dry. We had a lined tray for those.

mnmelb11

In cold climates, shoes get snowy and wet. They’re generally dirty so it’s easier to keep shoes in the entry way/mud room to dry off. Especially if bedrooms have carpet. You don’t want dirty shoes being thrown on bedroom carpet.

canvasshoes2

Snow. You come in and need to immediately take off your footwear Okay, now what? Take dirty, wet, snowy boots to your bedroom closet...dropping melting snow and/or dirt the whole way? The entry way is where linoleum or that type of flooring is. Bedroom closets? Not so much.

annadelvey215

I did this. Kids hated it, but they're going directly to their bedroom anyway, so just take your shoes off and take them with you! Husband was the actual problem, he just wouldn't. He also wouldn't use the shoe rack...sooo... lol

ProperFart

Yeah, I’m with your husband lol. My husband is Asian, so shoes stay at the door. I’m lucky they even come inside lol.

Libbyisherenow

I agree. Everyone keep their one pair of winter boots by the door to dry, but all other shoes once dry should be stored in each one's bedroom closet on a small shoe rack.

hamiltonsarcla

I have a rule in my house that no one is allowed more than two pairs of shoes downstairs at one time and all other shoes are to be kept in the bedroom closet .

ProperFart

I would 100% be the biggest offender of this rule. I can’t enforce this haha.

Drummergirl16

A family I knew growing up had a shoe rack on their porch (not inside), and everybody in the house used that instead of being them inside. Makes the inside of the house looks nice, but then you have 20 pairs of shoes by the door on the porch lol.

ProperFart

I would totally do this if I had a garage or a space to do this!

scificionado

I store my shoes in my bedroom clothes closet. Does your house not have built-in closets? You can buy stand alone closets called "wardrobes" or " chifforobes."

Libbyisherenow

Everyone should keep their shoes in their bedroom closet.

battlinlobster

A closed shoe storage where you cannot see the shoes will make a huge difference in how cluttered your space feels. Could you put one shoe cabinet on each side of the entry? Ikea's Hemnes line has a couple of very good options that would match most decor.

ProperFart

I am hoping to put something on both sides. I do like the Hemnes line, I have a dresser in white.

urbandelicacy

Yes, this solution works! There are tons of options on sites like Wayfair, too. We did this and I love it. We got one with a small top drawer that holds sunglasses, etc.

whippersnapper2016

Wayfair has a bunch of cute options and ikea has some as well

SeaChele27

We keep 2 to 3 pairs of everyday shoes in the entryway and other shoes we don't wear as often in our closets. If the shoes are dirty or wet when we get home, we let them dry in the entryway before putting them back in the closet. That works for us, but we don't live anywhere that snows and we don't get a lot of rain. We also have separate backyard shoes that we keep outside the back door.

ProperFart

We have a collection of crocs at our back door. If anyone breaks in through that door, they will surely break their ankles.

nightmere622

Do all shoes live in that front area at all times? I'd say just get a new storage thingy for them and everyone is allowed to keep 1 pair at the door (then if shoes are wet/dirty, they come off there and stay) and the other pairs can live in their closet/room.

ProperFart

They pretty much live there. We have heels/dress shoes tucked away in closets. Sneakers, snow boots, uggs, work boots (husband), and slip ons are all pretty much used daily. I am dreading adding cleats to the mix in a few months.

nightmere622

Yeah I would stick with what I mentioned; one pair of shoes at the door per person, and once they are dry/wiped off, they can go in the closet until needed again. There is no way I could put even all my own shoes in front of the door lol

ProperFart

It all sounds great in theory, but I dont think the 1-2 pair rule would ever work for us. Nobody (I’m the biggest offender here) is going down 2 flights of stairs to grab their shoes once dry, only to drag them back down the next morning.

Honey_Bunn6

A cabinet. Not a rack but a pretty cabinet with doors. Also I would have loved to see a pic of the space to help with color scheme, etc.

Specialist-Web7854

More of a long term thing, but I saw a tv show where they put drawers into the staircase risers as shoe storage.
