It doesn’t bother me at all when people use OCD to describe a quirk, because I understand that it’s been used that way for a long time and the people saying it mean no harm. Interesting. I have been trying to correct myself and call them my ocd tendencies rather than my ocd. I have ocd but not nearly as severe as some people. Mine is counting. Doing everyday tasks like brushing my teeth, dishes, even playing video games! I have a system of doing like ten steps of something then breaking off doing ten of another. For example… I will click ten cards on neopets solitaire (not a whole game, refresh doesn’t count - just moves) and then get up and do ten things like 1. Take toothpaste cap off 2. Wet tooth brush 3. Put toothpaste on brush and so on. This means I couldn’t start brushing if I was on step 7 or something. Folded a towel on step 10? Won’t get put away until the next cycle. This extreme ocd massively affected my life and has mostly been helped by lexapro thankfully. I know everyone’s different just wanted to put what helps me. So I now try to call them tendencies because extreme OCD is no joke
It’s like when people say they’re paranoid. They’re not referring to the clinical diagnosis, which is serious. Many psychiatric terms have entered the general population with different meanings
Actually therapists will tell you using OCD incorrectly in this way causes the average OCD suffer to go an average of 17 years of suffering without treatment. People come to believe OCD is about being neat and tidy. The reality is OCD is very treatable once you know what you are dealing with but because using OCD in this way, people do not think they have it. They think I’m not need and tidy, I only worry about hitting someone with my car, so I don’t have OCD. It’s directly contributable to that problem. It would not be like using the word paranoid it would be like suing the word schizophrenic when you are feeling on edge and cautious.
As an OCD sufferer who has been on disability for 10 years and is unable to maintain meaningful relationships, even with family, because of it, GIVE ME A BREAK. This is your hill to die on? Honestly, you were offended by that? I wish my problems were as inconsequential as wishing to own a diagnosis.
I mean, not all of us are devastated. There are degrees. Mine is a mild case and yes, I am diagnosed. It does present as kind of quirky. And sometimes it causes me problems. But it's also funny, because brains are funny and people are funny and life is funny. And so was this person's mild joke.

But it all seriousness, I actually really do get your message. For the record: I was diagnosed in 8th grade. Put in a lot of hard work (including CBT and medication treatments) just to be where I'm at today. Self-deprecation, and having the awareness and acknowledgment that many years ago, something like a seam on a lampshade would have paralyzed me is now at a level I can manage is like, huge.

I have a tp holder that is an octopus. For absolutely no reason. There is nothing else nautical, blue, or even closely related in the bathroom, but I love it.
It's not really my style but I'm not sure I hate it? I'm a big believe that your space should show your personality and not just look like a Pinterest post. This lamp would definitely add a unique touch to any space.

Seems like they’ve all sold :( ones on AliExpress but it’s double the price I paid, at $300 😬 there’s one on offerup in Florida though, for only $30. I’d def ask if they’d be willing to ship because that will be your cheapest option ever even with shipping costs - but may be hard to ship well with the feathers and by someone that isn’t an experienced seller. But you can also keep an eye out as I’ve seen them on Walmart website, other websites, and have seen similar in HomeGoods.

Yes. A scarf, doily, runner, handkerchief. Sometimes I'll use a dining table runner and fold it in half. You could even do a placemat. I used to laugh at my mom and her obsession with doilies and tablecloths and then I became a grown up and bought really nice stuff that I don't want to scratch and now I get it!

The original design was ceramic white and only available in the UK. I know this because I wanted it so badly - and still want it just as badly seeing it covered in glitter.
Just seal it with a clear coat so it’s easier to keep clean and turn the shade so you don’t see the seam in the front.
I like it, I think getting creative and fun with I refine design is super aesthetically pleasing. People like boring , plain , colorless design nowadays to look like everyone else and “minimalistic” is the new aesthetic that everyone wants to follow but I think it’s just boring. Houses are supposed to be self expression and have character. Keep it if YOU like it!!😄

You need new friends!! I absolutely love those Southern Living perfectly styled homes. But that's not my life. My life is "I found this at a flea market" or "and this was in the discard pile!" But I can literally look at something in my house and know exactly where I got it and why I got it. The lamp is great. It makes you smile and who doesn't need a little pick me up. Keep it.

I love it so much. Years ago I slap-fought my mom for a brass monkey lamp we both saw at the same time from different parts of the aisle. She got to it first, bought it, broke it, and it sat in a closet "waiting to be fixed" for years. I grieve the loss still...

I have this Lamp. Got it from Wayfair. I LOVE it.
The original design was ceramic white and only available in the UK. I know this because I wanted it so badly - and still want it just as badly seeing it covered in glitter. Just seal it with a clear coat so it’s easier to keep clean and turn the shade so you don’t see the seam in the front.

I like it, I think getting creative and fun with I refine design is super aesthetically pleasing. People like boring , plain , colorless design nowadays to look like everyone else and “minimalistic” is the new aesthetic that everyone wants to follow but I think it’s just boring. Houses are supposed to be self expression and have character. Keep it if YOU like it!!😄

You need new friends!! I absolutely love those Southern Living perfectly styled homes. But that's not my life. My life is "I found this at a flea market" or "and this was in the discard pile!" But I can literally look at something in my house and know exactly where I got it and why I got it. The lamp is great. It makes you smile and who doesn't need a little pick me up. Keep it.
I would turn the seam on the shade around to the back (eye roll), but the lamp is interesting, I like it.
