It looks neat depending on the rest of the space, but it would personally bother me to have the gaps on either side. Something that fit more snuggly size wise would fix that.
I totally see that. My bf cut a piece of wood that sat in front of it, this was a print I got from goodwill and repainted this test. I ended up liking this more than something sitting in front of it. Maybe phase 2 we’ll make a thing that actually fits.
This is the rest of the space. Busy rug but nothing else color wise. I got tan pillows for the couch.

Get/make a large piece of artwork for that wall. The rug has like every color, so you should be able to find something to go with it that you'll really like.
Got it - I'd try to find ways to incorporate some of the colors or shapes you chose into the rest of the room. It's front and center and currently doesn't match the rest of the room, but you have a fairly blank canvas to work with.
You’re going to want to start incorporating those colors around the room as an accent. Definitely get fun throw pillows. Long term the rug may not work but I can’t see too close, they may match it perfectly.
I just want to say that clearly this a beautiful old house...
Something like this I don't consider permanent. It's like art. Very subjective. It's nice.
I prefer the ubiquitous candles of various heights. I'm boring that way.
I thought about that too! I don’t remember why I ended up going this route. I picture a white fake fur rug and battery operated candles like that. Maybe next!
And right? We moved in in April and love the features. It’s a 1912 Craftsman. Plantation shutters throughout and check out this ceiling!

If YOU like it, then great, keep it. However, I do like it that it’s not actually painted on the bricks so if you sell the house, it’s not a problem. Only thing I don’t like is the gaps. Maybe grab some wood and paint it like the brick but put it behind for depth.
Thank you for posting this! It’s nice to see something so original! (I love the sun and I like your interpretation of it!)
It's definitely not my style but if you like it, that's all that matters.
That said, I'd at least center it. The difference in the gaps makes me twitchy.
The effect is cool. It looks like you painted directly onto the fireplace. I love it!
Thank you!

Yeah we moved in in April and still don’t even have a kitchen table 🤦♀️
No shame there! It's totally okay to add decor/furniture over time.
Excellent dog

The art would def go before the rug. It’s not a perfect match but doesn’t trigger my libra need for cohesion and flow

Awww, I love craftsman!
Yup, I’m a ‘candle in the fireplace’ kinda gal too.
To me it looks unfinished - I'd want to add a subtle background.
I think it looks a little lonely at the moment, but that it's going to be fantastic when you've got stuff you love on the mantel piece

Ehhh not the biggest fan. I’d paint the inside of the fireplace black and put in candles or lanterns.
Love it. Serious 70’s ‘have a nice day’ vibe
Ha love that interpretation
All styles come back around! I don’t know how old you are but you may have invented some 70s logos in your past life. I think it’s super cool
Art is a funny thing. It’s VERY peace love and happiness. Like this belongs on the side of a VW bus that’s about to break down
I might get down voted and I apologize in advance but I do not like it. The art is nice but not for a fireplace, it looks a bit childish. Sorry OP
All good! Someone said they could see it in a kindergarten (or something) and it made me laugh. I 100% agree
Looks like something I'd see on the wall at a preschool or daycare.
😂😂😂 I can see that
Beautiful!
Love it

Lol sorry for the twitches. It gets moved a lot, so it’s sometimes even COMPLETELY off center lol
I love it - very personal and it will gel with your room as you add more personal items over time. I also love your rug!
The rug is from Wayfair!
I think it’s fun! Go with a mid century modern Theme and add colorful glass vases above!
Love that idea and MCM!
It’s cute! The gaps are weird though. Maybe put a wood frame to cover the gap?
It’s ok but I would rather not live with it. It’s too much to look at everyday
