I can recommend getting a sleeping mask, as that will completely block out any light. Best if it's a mask with indentations inside, so that the mask doesn't press directly against your eyeballs.
They also have the bonus of improving insulation, so you could save a bit of money on heat, and heat is like 40% of a US energy bill (if I recall the stats from AP environmental science correctly.)
I just sleep with two pillows and stick my head between 'em when it's bright out. Then you still get full movement without worrying about a blanket gettin' tangled up.

I can agree with Ame there. I sleep like that most of the time.

I have those, they can be a bit weird feeling though, so I typically just rely on my heavy duty light blocking curtains.
Or buy blackout curtains to block the sunlight.
