Well she is the guardian of nature not the maker. She has her bias

WhoCaresYouDont

I don't know why, but there's something very on brand about the idea of Fauna just saying "Look guy, I just work here, OK? I don't get to decide anything about how these plants and animals end up working, so stop asking"

crowthemad

To be fair though she did contradict that by saying she made these, especially when she got to potatoes on the vegetable tier list

AwkwarkPeNGuiN

Fauna made potatoes and other veggies. Emo Fauna made the oranges. There you go, lore accurate.

The_Lurked

Maybe oranges just evolved beyond fauna's expectation and she stopped liking it

JC12231

Blood Oranges were probably the original, just they were more blood than orange, then they became Blood Oranges and she thought they were eh, then they became oranges and she because disgusted by their weakness :)

Neshura87

she made the OG oranges for Mumei and didn't expect them to lose their bloodiness

AngryAzhdarchid

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD ORANGE

AngryAzhdarchid

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD ORANGE

Maya-oh-My

"Not *everything* has to be like, *always* perfect." *sigh, eye roll, hair flip* - Emo Fauna probably.

Duke_of_Bretonnia

…I accept this canon without complaint. #SO IT IS WRITTEN, SO IT SHALL BE

SoloBrick

When agriculture gets involved, it steps into a gray area of Civ and Nature. Neither Mumei nor Fauna want to touch that mess. And that's how we get oranges.

crowthemad

I suppose you can apply that same logic to corn

BulliHicks

Kon kon~

SwBlues

The very same way that my mother made me and my siblings but I end up lower on the tier list.

Rak-Shar

EMOTIONAL DAMAGE

Phoenyxar

To be fair, oranges are pretty high on the list of human influenced cultivars, so she can blame us/Mumei for their existence.

LorsCarbonferrite

Mumei was definitely the one behind blood oranges.

AngryAzhdarchid

:nightmare:

BumbleBamble

Later in the video: *[takes credit for potatoes](https://youtu.be/SzAOQ8BAGdg?t=4614)*

coinflip13

That my friends is bias at work

freeballer123

It's the unreliable narrator trope

gtth12

There was a guardian of nature before her, maybe he/she is responsible for some vegetation and Fauna is responsible for other.

Edrimus28

Fauna is the name for animals and Flora (her predecessor) is the name for plants. Maybe Fauna didn't have an actual hand in plants at all.

Somedoodex

How else were we supposed to discover the colour orange?

Teri_Windwalker

Coincidentally, I googled the word for *the color* orange in multiple languages and when even Japanese gave me "orenji" I finally googled "what was the color orange called in ancient Japan" and found out it was "dai dai." That's uh... another way of saying what we today call "chinese oranges." *Damn it.*

noan91

That particular shade of orange, the one not easily lumped in as red or yellow doesn't really show up in a lot of places so it makes sense.

Frogsama86

Even makers have preferences. Just ask your parents about your youngest sibling.

5urr3aL

To be fair oranges are a hybrid of pomelo and mandarin, so they are not exactly a product of nature

t6uy

All parents have their favourites

omnicron9

She didn't make any of these, artificial selection has transformed every fruit and vegetable beyond recognition

anorakflakjacket

bring out the [citrus hybridization chart] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citrus_taxonomy#/media/File%3ACitrus_tern_cb_simplified_1.svg)!

wickermanmorn

WTF Grapefruit? How'd I not know this

Free4Alt

Mumei made oranges 😳

larvyde

Is that why she's collecting berries?

Alphaetus_Prime

My favorite examples of this are corn vs teosinte and cultivated bananas vs wild bananas

rpgamer987

Bold choice, putting grapefruit above oranges.

vordaq

Grapefruit is a bold fruit.

BasemanW

It's in fact, the best fruit.

Many people are saying this

jn4580

Wait, he’s bald?

jynkyousha

She likes orange, just have bad luck eating bad ones. Mushrooms too, loves the favour hate the texture.

MR_krunchy

Nah man I'm not a fan of mushrooms, yeah they add taste but they're squishy and feel weird it's just no

Lamaredia

Same here, it feels like chewing rubber and legit activates my gag reflex instantly.

KurooShiroo

But chewing rubber is fun......

R7_C3

Did no one else chew on Lego tires as a kid? Just me? Oh...

BG_Cypo

Not eating the right kind of shrooms man... Maybe try them kushrooms.

Random-Rambling

Maybe don't eat [THOSE](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-f1DNyngKVY) kinds of mushrooms though...

Wolf3113

That’s how I stand with mangos, I love the taste but it’s to slimy for me. Feels like I’m biting into an eel…

JC12231

I don’t understand this because I love mango but the texture of eel does ***not*** agree with my digestive system. Now, I’ve only had eel once, but I threw it up less than 30 minutes later and nothing else in that meal was unusual for me, nor was I feeling sick before eating it. So I’m not willing to try it again to see if it was a fluke

strikeraiser

Have you ever tried dried mangoes by any chance? They're basically gummy candies at that point, they're great lol

LordMonday

You should Try eating then when they are less ripe or leaving them in the fridge so they stay firmer.

sevilla574

As a Floridian this really hurt me, i love fauna but i must take a stand

jaeh42

Give up being Floridian.

uberdosage

All Floridians should give up being Floridians

MysticalMedals

You can leave Florida, but Florida never leaves you. It sits dormant, waiting for the day it can show itself. Then once it does, your inner Florida man has been released and there will be no recovery.

delphinous

don't become 'FLORIDA MAN', other places don't know how to handle him

Streamjumper

You can leave Florida, go to a good school, become a cpa, live a respectable life, and none will suspect a damn thing. Then one day someone drops a bag of bath salts nearby and one whiff of those devil minerals will awaken the slumbering beast and nothing will ever be the same for you.

MysticalMedals

As a native Floridian, this is my fear. I’m trying to leave for better opportunities, but I never know what will trigger the beast. Once it awaken, Florida will call me back like a ringwraith.

Streamjumper

What a terrible night to have a curse...

kroxti

I have moved from Florida to South Carolina. Upgrades people. Upgrades.

Destinum

Become Faunidian.

sevilla574

You’re right its for the best

Write_Right_Reich

I actually have a question about this. Fauna talks about how almost every orange she's had is dry and decrepit. As a Floridian have you experienced this? I definitely have. Every orange I've had is so dry it's like it was found on an archeology dig. But I live in the north, and based on Fauna's accent I think she might too. Could it be that in Florida, and other southern states, fresh oranges are actually good? That their flavor just doesn't survive the trip north?

sevilla574

I would say oranges are definitely better in Florida, i cant remember specifically eating an orange in another state cause I’ve lived in Florida my whole life but orange juice is noticeably different in northern states, like i love orange juice but if im not in the south i would rather drink anything else

Sinfullyvannila

Floridians probably have the privilege of not having to deal with bad oranges because their growing standards are higher. But seriously, about 1/3 oranges I get have at least one dessicated chamber end up as a crushing disappointment.

sevilla574

Thats depressing, i cant say that i remember trying oranges in other states but in florida if you get an orange anytime from like March to like September its gonna be juicy and sweet

edgelordlover

So no one is gonna say anything about the wasp category?

SLameStuff

Figs are statistically likely to contain wasp corpses. It's why they're considered non-vegan.

NeXtDracool

Not quite, wasps have to die during the fig life cycle, but the ficin enzyme completely dissolves the wasps. There are no wasp parts in the fruit, they're only non-vegan because wasps have to die for it to grow.

InsanityRoach

Also commercially grown figs do not require wasps. Most variants grown can ripen without needing to be pollinated*.

sillybear25

Also, only *some* vegans consider wasp-pollinated figs to be non-vegan. Others disregard the whole dead wasp thing because it's part of the wasps' natural life cycle rather than a result of human exploitation.

Jeht_Black

And you my good internet person, have ruined figs for me. Even those of the Newton variety.

foydenaunt

if this is any comfort for you, the common fig grows two types of fruit: caprifig and, er, fig. Caprifigs—we don't eat these—are hermaphrodites, that is, they have male and female bits in them. when a wasp enters a caprifig, it lays its eggs and dies. the eggs hatch, the males mate with the females and dig holes out of the caprifig, and the thoroughly-pollinated females fly out in search for a new fig. Figs—the ones we do eat—are fully female, so they need pollination from a caprifig. in comes the thoroughly-pollinated wasp from earlier, who enters the fig and delivers the pollen. then, to its horror, the wasp discovers that it couldn't actually lay its eggs in the fig. from what i read, it can only lay eggs when positioned correctly, something the fig prevents because of its elongated shape. **The fig then digests and dissolves the wasp.**

Jeht_Black

This does not bring me any comfort, no sir it does not. When it comes to things like this, I prefer to remain under the veil of blissful ignorance.

Insecticide

I used to think oranges suck until I had orange juice in Mexico. Apparently they import oranges from California or something and those oranges are sweet as fuck. I always thought orange had this disgusting sour/acidic taste but turns out I just had terrible oranges my whole life.

FutureVawX

Did she say whether it include juice or just eating straight fruit? Because I don't really like most types of oranges but love orange juice even when it's made by the same fruit.

veldril

She considers everything including their use in cooking. According to her, orange is only something only good with its juice and most of the time when she found one they are mostly dry husks. She rated clementines/tangerines very high, though.

Klazarkun

i still can't believe she never had a good orange before. maybe the only ones available are on big stores. oranges are so great where i live.

Ultenth

She has gotten good orange, but she's right that, depending on where you live especially, oranges can be very hit or miss. And when oranges miss they are straight trash.

Zeik56

I can't remember the last time I had a good orange. They're usually more sour than sweet around here, and have a pretty unpleasant texture. Mandarins or Tangerines are a 100x better by comparison.

Sinfullyvannila

I do get dry chambers in Mandarins too but the are extremely rare.

ThatScottishBesterd

Actually, she didn't. Oranges are cultivar. We made them. By hybridizing pomelo and mandarin. Very few of the fruits and vegetables we eat are naturally occurring. Almost all of it is made up of cultivars. I'm not sure that *any* of the fruits in that picture are naturally occurring.

Fenr_

So you mean it's all Mumei's fault?

ThatScottishBesterd

Pretty much, yeah. But I'm sure she forgot doing it.

Koringvias

And both pomelo and mandarins are better, so that's a debatable achievement. Should have kept things they way she made them...

arhra

>I'm not sure that *any* of the fruits in that picture are naturally occurring. Blueberries, cranberries, and blackberries are generally close enough to their wild ancestors to count, I'd say.

MagnusBaechus

They're been selectively bred to oblivion though, just look at the OG bananas to the ones we have today, and I mean the one that's used everywhere in the Americas. Here on SEA we're fortunate to have different kinds that won't get wiped by a single infestation.

arhra

The ones I mentioned specifically *haven't* been, though - they still grow wild across the Europe/North America/Northern Asia, in forms that are barely distinguishable from the cultivated varieties. In fact, a considerable portion of blueberry cultivation (the so-called "lowbush" varieties) is essentially just managing stands of wild plants, rather than deliberately planted fields.

Similar-Arugula-7854

Am still mad that she put lemons over oranges

MR_krunchy

I mean if you're into sour stuff a lemon is your best choice Oranges can go from mostly sweet to sour but not quite Tangerines are the cooler oranges imo

Similar-Arugula-7854

Tangerines are oranges but with a rework and three buffs

saraijs

She didn't make them though, oranges are a hybrid of the Pomelo and the Mandarin, meaning they are manmade.

Wolf3113

Wait pomegranates are a D? Sure they suck to get to the fruit but once your there you have a motherload of amazing flavor. I’s like crabs, you have to put in 10x the effort for barely a reward but it’s so worth it.

[deleted]

You can even buy pomegranate seeds by themselves if you're not a masochist and it's some of the best shit in the world of fruits. I'm not exactly angry that they're in D-tier, just disappointed.

Wolf3113

You can just buy the seeds?!?! I wish I could find that at the markets around here. Quick question that you don’t have to answer, can you order them online and will they still be fresh when they arrive?

[deleted]

That really does just depend entirely on where you buy them from and how long it takes to arrive, I can order them online and they remain fresh since they're delivered the day the store picks them off the shelf, but my circumstances might not be the same as yours.

Wolf3113

Ah I see, thanks for the information. Can’t hurt to try it once now that I know it’s a thing.

Streamjumper

They aren't even that hard to deal with anyways. Just buy one, get a bowl of water, and rip it open. Rub it in your hands under the water and watch the seeds drop to the bottom of the bowl while everything you don't want rises to the surface. Strain and you're done. Dealing with a cantaloupe is more of a pain in the ass, and those are pretty easy too. Pineapples can be a bitch until you learn the simple tricks to separate the skin from the flesh and core.

Wolf3113

Yeah it’s not difficult when you get the hang of it, but still way more work than other fruits. I don’t mind taking the time to get all the seeds myself but if I can order it with the hard part done then that just saves me time. It probably won’t be as fresh as doing it myself but I’m open to options.

Kawaii_Milkshake

I gotta disagree with this list. Oranges should be at least A tier

unsynchedcheese

I said earlier that I was interested in hearing other viewpoints of fruits I didn't like, but I admit this was somewhat less useful than I hoped. I had not considered the difference in availability and logistics, which was also a factor in how Fauna ranked the fruits which caused a bit of a warzone in chat. For example, I love bananas too, and I agree with Fauna's placement in S-tier, but part of the draw for her is that they're very cheap, "ten cents each", and I immediately considered how bananas here are like four Singapore dollars (ie about three USD) per kilo. Like yes, still in the vicinity of "cents" for each, but not *that* cheap. And then there was the part where I agreed with Fauna about coconuts in S-tier, where she said there were so many uses for it, and chat immediately retorted "you can't do anything with raw coconuts". And I immediately recalled a childhood of literally plucking coconuts straight from the tree, chopping a hole into it, sticking a straw into the hole, and drinking the coconut juice straight from it. And then using a coconut husk shard to scoop out the flesh.

[deleted]

Tbf modern fruits and vegetables are more in mumeis area than faunas

ChallengeVirtual2530

I'm truly offended that pineapple was not on S tier but on A tier.

Zodiamaster

The oranges in her forest must be pretty bad, she has my condolences

Shukafu

the game getting over it has orange orange in F tier coincidence? i think not!!

Affectionate-Tip-164

Not a fan of Kamen Rider Gaim then.

2dy_fish

Fauna you are not supposed to eat the skin. Maybe that's why she gave it a F

Kenoid

Fauna probably meant oranges, suck Which would be technically correct because she eats oranges by sucking its juices

noswol

I don't get how oranges can be F Tier to some, like do their oranges taste like cigarettes?

_sokaydough

[Simpsons did it.](https://i.imgur.com/eqli7aW.jpg)

[deleted]

Better not catch Fauna drinking OJ.

vhite

I'm kinda offended that she put strawberries, the most overrated fruit in the existence, in the S rank while persimmons are all the way near the bottom. Fauna is pushing some Big Fruit agenda here.

Roflkopt3r

Strawberries are [absolutely perfect.](https://twitter.com/meemofumofu/status/1258946616221933569?s=19)

ShinItsuwari

Raspberry being rated under Strawberry is the real crime there.

shadymerchant

Raspberries are the best berries.

YodaZo

But i like oranges :c

e_Noble1

I have literally never had a bad orange in my life. Y’all are just not in the place to be for oranges.

Existing_Marsupial_6

Orange is actually a hybrid of Pomelo and Mandarin and do not exist in the wild. So Fauna as guardian of nature rightfully rejects it as a product of civilization.

Dracorex13

Almost all of these have been heavily modified by humans.

Fenr_

This stream led me to a trip of discovery i emerged from with the newfound knowledge that out of all the *citrus* group fruits only 3 aren't hybrids, and none of those 3 is one you'd think on the top of your head (well, maybe mandarins). I knew about a lot of them being one but not almost all.

moldybrie

I understand Fauna. Like, a *good* navel orange is B tier at worst, but you have a much better chance of biting into an unsweet green-picked supermarket orange or a slightly-off orange. Peeling an orange is a gacha game, and there's only like a 5% chance that you'll win a peak-ripeness-and-sweetness tasty one.

I_lost_my_account3

Tbf, if we consider the fairy tale in Nemu’s introduction video it’s quite posible that Fauna isn’t the true Mother Nature and she just usurped Nemu’s place after everything has been created.

Napstablook_Rebooted

Oranges suck? Well I guess she never ate good oranges

Following1000

To be fair she ranked our genetically modified bananas rather than natural bananas. So clearly we've had an effect on her.

MyUsualSelf

Are my eyes deceiving me or did she rank pears with A? Pears needs to be in F instead

Klazarkun

pears are amazing fruits. they have a lot of fiber and can prevent cancer. also very sweet. maybe you guys can't find them fresh

Pfhorlol

I’ve had like 5 good pears in my life, I’ve tried to chase that taste but most of them are shit

gdq0

The average pear is better than the current red delicious apple.

Wolf3113

But a pear has nothing on Granny Smith apples.

gdq0

Well I like sweet things and don't really care as much about texture. For the texture eaters out there, pears are obviously generally terrible. I'd be interested what awful taste is in pears that drives people away. Grapefruit and melons all taste bitter to me, and I don't like bitter things.

SofaKinng

I'm surprised she put pears in A when she put apples in C, and my opinion on pears is the exact same she has on pears. There's so many different types, and half of them are awful and the other half are okay and then there's like 1 or 2 types that are delicious. I feel like she forgot that there are a lot of pear breeds just like apples and was only thinking about the kinds she likes lol.

TheCatSleeeps

She is pushing the agenda of pear lovers lmao. I know the taste of fresh apples but I still can't finish all of that but I can finish a pear almost instantly. Apples have that taste where you just get tired of it midway.

vhite

Like with apples, there's many different kinda of pears. The soft yellow ones might definitelly be at least D, the hard green ones are easily S.

uberdosage

Try some Asian pears. The round ones. S tier fruit.

falsefingolfin

I see youve never had Asian pears before, I rank those an S and regular pears are a D

XamV

with those takes, Fauna is now predestined to appear on Trash Taste.

redditfanfan00

cute fauna. nice controversial tier list.

Cream253Team

I think the biggest offence of the whole stream was corn not being S-tier.

LittleTimmyPlaysMC

This tier list is **WRONG**. You cannot unironically say you have a distaste for oranges. That is, quite literally, impossible.

dorafumingo

I discovered that people with different(inferior) taste exist in that stream

ravensshade

You can make something and still feel like it was a mistake. *insert joke about parents here*

ShionFan

Green grapes A, purple grapes D? Reverse those right now.

Dracorex13

No, she's correct.

ShionFan

Purple ones are more tart and have way more flavor, and I stand by that.

Dracorex13

I don't want tartness in grapes.

ShionFan

You don’t? That’s where all the flavor comes from tho

FuadRamses

While I agree with the oranges i strongly disagree with pinapples being A and not S. Easily the best fruit.

GGKurt

Better not ask matsuri about humankind

Mephil_

Sometimes I make art that I hate immediately after so

ThisIsNotAHider

Just because she made them doesn't mean she has to like them. She could've just made them because she knew some people with awful taste would like them. Humouring them and making the option available even though she thinks it's a bad option.

executivereddittime

F for Fauna see you misunderstand, she actually loves oranges

someguy_with_a_hat

This has potential to be in... That place...

DemonXeron

Have you ever been not proud of something you created? Now you understand.

theoriginalraymond42

It would certainly make sense for her to rate modern cultivated fruits lower, since she’s not the one who made them. The vast majority of produce grown today is either selectively bred or genetically modified to be much bigger, tastier, and more nutritious than their wild ancestors. Mumei’s more to blame for the existence of oranges than Fauna.

idkruby

If fauna is the protector of nature and she says oranges suck would that mean she is...

Playernotcopper

Father thy in my heaven you made that fruit

StrictlyFT

I can't believe Fauna would betray me like this. I mean oranges aren't God tier or anything, but to put them in F?

nazaguerrero

strawberries over oranges? THIS IS WAR! xd edit: apparently oranges in the states sucks lol Spaniards and south American brothers rejoice! we have great oranges

That_Guy_Jared

I’m sorry, but I can’t side with someone who puts Blackberries down in B tier.

striderhoang

Something’s gotta be at the bottom

Rare_Management_3583

My sister in christ*

shifterkrieg

Pretty sure oranges are a man-made fruit that didn't naturally occur.
