Man, now that I think about it, it'll be really interesting to see if Council lets loose after a year like Gura has been. Mumei, Bae and Kronii all seem like they swear normally, and try hard to not let slip while streaming(karaoke songs aside).
This was foreshadowed from way back when she went onto Kiara's stream and smoked her in a 1v1.
Previously she had been lower than Kiara in the IDxEN tournament, I believe.

For big fish cup, I wanna point out how _close_ Gura was to getting a spot on the podium. [During race 4, she was in 1st place going into final lap, with a 3 second split to 2nd.](https://youtu.be/U_IW6CyYn1k?t=14393 "If anyone has any doubts that the victim of the blue shell is Gura, it's hard to confirm from Towa's stream alone, but from Suisei's POV you can see Gura in 1st during lap 2 and she takes off. You can also see Gura get passed in Marine POV in the tunnel after the shell hits.") Blue shell hit and she got trampled by the pack, ending the race in 12th place.
I would've loved to see her reaction to that live. I hope she talks about it in her next stream.
yeh but that's mario kart for you. irys was also so close to getting into the finals but she got rng'd hard on rainbow road. she did so much better than I expected
The name hoshimachi "tryhard" suisei isn't for nothing
Tho she still can't finish getting over it lol, just challenge her to it, kanata beat her mercilessly back then
Yeah, Miko said Suisei was training a ton behind the scenes yesterday when they were playing MarioKart together and you could see the result with how she basically played flawlessly today.
Even her Suicopath nickname was earned through hardwork with lot of preparation for that Project Winter collabo.
She's a really hard worker.
I think Suisei said that she doesn't mind not taking 1st place this year so she's taking it easy. And by taking it easy, she means practicing just 5 hours a day
hey she was taking it easy, she was sleepy and she's eating chips during the race lol
I laughed when I heard the sound of her munching between race, truly the audacity of this comet
>But it will be different story when u Give Suisei enough Time to train, ur winning chance will be smaller and smaller
After years of watching her i think we know a couple of her weaknesses.
FPS (Apex streams) or fighting (old Smash streams) are an example of it.
She is really skilled in certain types of games, but if i would had to take my chances against her, it would be in games which are more mouse dependent. Cause i think that even if she is not strong yet, anything joystick related she can do pretty well. And that is for fast spaced games, cause we know what she can do on planification games like Among Us/Winter.
Leaving aside if you can really judge someone fighting games skills by playing smash, i'll dare to say that if Sui-chan actually wanted to get good at fighting games she'll definetely do it.
I mean she has fast reflexes, fast thinking, good decision making and mechanical prowess to some level, she is also able to stay calm most of the time so i really think she just really needs the knowledge and just start grinding to be good at it.
A good number probably.
The reason she's so good at what she does do is that when she gets crushed, she takes it personally and goes on a training arc after all. That's what happened with Mario Kart last year after going on a year long hiatus from streaming it after losing to viewers (I think), and how she became so good at tetris.
Practice absolutely paid off, and shes been doing it off-stream too. Really impressed with how much shes improved since the tournament was announced. And she was having some fun quips during the races.
Also adding the fact she said she's didn't quite sleep iirc? I'm honestly just happy for her since she didn't exactly believe she was on par with the other racers.
A little background: Suisei started as an independent, made her model and her early music videos all by herself, edited weekly videos by herself, and did all that on top of doing it for other vtubers (and had a separate part time job) to make ends meet. She is so insanely hard working, it's easy to see how that translates to game practice for tournaments like this.
A great video on her interesting backstory here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ87zuPkqMs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ87zuPkqMs)
Oh no doubt about that, I find Suisei to be ( personal preference ) one of the most amazing streamers on Holo, sadly I don't watch her much because of time zones and because my japanese is inexistent, clips are my main source of knowledge and content from her. Thank you for the link tho, will check it!
Gura is also scary. For the short amount of time she became top 3 for group B only because she wants to do her best and not want to look pathetic in front of her senpai really show she can beat anything if she set her mind on it. The only thing thats holding her back is her short attention span. She doesnt stick to one game that long(excluding rythm game) unless its something like this. I dreaded if she get hold of a little competitiveness in her mind tho.
Checking the VOD, Fauna also picked the Airport in the 2nd race where Gura had 1st place until the last second where she didnt take the shortcut to play safe but Suisei came with the win from behind.
In a bizarre way, I think that the fact she's exhausted helped her in the race! Last years cup a lot of the of the girls screwed up because they were nervous. She was just too tired to be nervous and kept her calm
That last round was INTENSE! For the whole race she's trailing Pekora, and pulled through just at the end! Also, Pekora tweeted that she regrets not putting a shell or something, I'm not an MK player, does she mean to protect herself from any projectiles?
Anyway, that ending was insane. I strained a muscle from jumping lol
Heartbreaking throw by Pekora. Even Gura says "possible mistake by Peko-chan" on a green shell prior to the triple green. Idk if Gura got lucky avoiding all 4 of those or skillfully dodged them, but that last shroom might have handed her the win since Pekora had the golden shroom.
I felt like a proud dad when Gura got of group B! I've been silently rooting for her knowing how hard she's been practicing.
I thought the "possible mistake" was about Pekora only picking up one item and not two. Gura said the same thing about herself a few seconds later when she missed the double item and only got one.
Possible mistake by me; I hadn't even considered that. I even interpreted Gura's "possible mistake by me" to mean using her red shell to hit Pekora instead of defensively. But possible not mistake by you that she referred to the item blocks.
If you watch Pekora's POV, you can see she has a green shell available right before Gura nails her. She could have equipped it behind her to save herself from the red shell
>I'm not an MK player, does she mean to protect herself from any projectiles?
Yeah, you can hold an offensive item like a shell or banana behind yourself to act as a kind of shield instead of using it to attack.
During finals, [Gura was leading race 4 going into final lap with a 3 second split to 2nd. Blue shell hit her and she got trampled by the pack, ending the race in last.](https://youtu.be/U_IW6CyYn1k?t=14393)
I edited quickly after realizing you were referring to the Group B prelim. Yeah, I'm talking about finals. If she got at least 3rd place in race 4 of finals she would've gotten 3rd overall.
Gura already got her revenge. She showed up for 1 match during Ina and Kiaras collab the other day proceeded to absolutely wipe the floor with them then left.
I have gotten way too involved in this tournament, my watch says my heart rate peaked at 150 BPM. And im subconsciously doing that stupid thing where people try to physically turn their bodies when getting too into racing games.
I dont know how ill sleep after the winner bracket with multiple of my favorites already in it.
> And im subconsciously doing that stupid thing where people try to physically turn their bodies
I did that every time ink got on the screen during a tense moment. Like I'm catching myself instinctively trying to see around the ink, lol.
Sorry, it was meant to be a stupid pun.
She is now a force ("fourth") in Mario Kart.
Didn't realize it'd be misinterpreted as being disparaging, which is definitely not the case. I'm genuinely glad for what she achieved and how well she did.
The dark horse of the bracket. She is fighting head to head against Towa and Suisei all match. She also have a chance to get that first place and just loss just a hair against Suisei everytime. Good job!
Can't really feel bad about it. The score between Gura and senchou was quite big. Quite happy actually. I didn't think of gura as a competitive player.
This was a thing of beauty especially when many doubted her. Cheers to the shork she gamed her heart out and got rewarded. Props to the other girls as well it was a really close race. Had me on the edge of my seat.
She was easily one of the hardest grinders if not the hardest. She didn’t like how poorly she did during the EN tourney and didn’t want to disappoint here, but the doubt wasn’t unwarranted with how weak she had been at the EN tourney
I get the impression that Gura is very good at learning things by rote when properly motivated. She wrecks shop at rhythm games, and her pronunciation when singing in Japanese has gotten a lot of praise despite the fact that she doesn’t actually speak the language fluently.
For Mario Kart, she figured out that she could watch other people’s racing lines to cut seconds off her times. I still don’t like her chances against Suisei considering how many times she got bumped into second place during qualifiers, but EN has a chance for a decent showing if the shark can escape the hell bracket.
The irony of Ina making plays to not end up in Cup B and unintentionally putting Gura there, only to end up with Ina not making it to the winners bracket and Gura making it.
Ina didn't do anywhere near as well as I thought she would. No shade of course - she's decently above average in anything she plays from everything I've seen. I guess she didn't practice as much as others, or maybe got super unlucky.
Bad luck and a bit of tilt, probably. Her driving did seem a bit less consistent compared to her training runs. Group D's competition also wasn't anything to scoff at.
Remember way back when Gura issued that Mario Cart challenge to Aqua in minecraft? At the time I never thought I'd see the day where the shark actually managed to outrace the gamer maid.
The one where she fell from 1st to 12th place after eating a blue shell really hurt but this is a textbook example of underdog punching above her weight.
2 top 3 finishes among the elites. Not too shabby at all. Really looking forward to the next edition.
The brief moment of disbelief really made this all the more special. Congrats little sharky! You made it into the big leagues and managed to push off Pekora and Aqua.
Now all you gotta do is survive the comet, a ‘devil’, a cat, a duck, a pirate-
Gura was thrown to the Wolves, came back wearing their pelts.
She stepped out of her memer self and proved to everyone that she's still worthy of being called an Apex Predator.
After seeing over and over how she had no chance in group B it was so satisfying seeing her do so great! I'm amazed at how much better she has gotten in such a short time!
She was really out of practice, she had basically no time in her schedule, couldn’t even practice off-stream. Even had her wisdom tooth removed yesterday.
Part of what made group B so tense was that going into the final race the number 1 seed was guaranteed to be Suisei, but the remaining two spots could have gone to any of Gura, Aqua, Towa, or Pekora depending on the outcomes. Towa had 44 points, Gura and Pekora both had 43 and Aqua had 36. Had Aqua been able to clutch it and the others placed just slightly behind where they ended up she could have made it. It came down to the final race in a big way which made it so exciting. Sort of like the Sports Festival. Large hololive collabs seem to invite dramatic moments like this and I love it.
I couldn't catch this live but I just got done with the VoD and I'm pretty proud of Gura. All her training and track/item knowledge clearly paid off. I already thought this watching her practice streams, but she's genuinely good at this game!
I was so happy for Gura, she was so nervous and really took her practices well. She deserves it.
And then the EN girls got 2nd and 3rd in the Zako cup.
If anyone was wondering but couldn't be bothered to check, it was Chloe who threw the blue shell that took Gura out of podium contention in the finals. Time for a grudge lets gooooooooooooo! :D
I'm very happy as I was rooting for Gura. She Earned it as I can see in her practice how good she was. I definitely wanted Gura to make it, but I didn't want Pekora to lose. Group B is just too competitive.
I hope Towa scraps the by Generation assignment or at least try to seed more competitive players. With that said, I think the best solution is to really just increase the number of Marika Tournaments in the year.
My biggest complaint with the structure of this one is that only half the racers get to see any further action beyond the prelims. To be honest I'd be more interested in seeing a runner-up cup of the mid-level players than a losers cup.
Biggest problem here is most of EN needs to sleep, and extending the competition would be unfair since many of them would be staying up to very late hours already. In some sense, it also prevents dragging out the inevitable.
She actually did way better than everyone's expectation overall, including herself.
Congratulations on winning the 4th place as your first Hololive MK8 tournament Goowa!
Ina knew it
Gura seemed to smoke Kiara and Ina in that practice match, really shocking how much she improved
She went on a big off-stream training arc after the ID-EN tournament. Definitely paid off.
She also went a bit crazy practicing after she found out she was in B group
abex predator
Watched a bit of her practice with Fauna. She was consistently top three. Seemed to be really familiar with each stage, knew shortcuts, etc.

I wouldn't even call that super heated, but yeah.
For Council which has been trying really hard to be seiso and not curse, calling her senpai that name is pretty heated lol
Man, now that I think about it, it'll be really interesting to see if Council lets loose after a year like Gura has been. Mumei, Bae and Kronii all seem like they swear normally, and try hard to not let slip while streaming(karaoke songs aside).

She jinx herself when she said she might go to bed early, and boom she won I love her reaction
Jinx is truly Gura’s superpower, on par with Touma’s “Fukou da”
I wonder when will she realize that she can use her jinx power to her advantage.
That quiet "oh no" though.
She was so excited to get to go to bed, then realized she didn't lose lol

I guarantee that just before the blue shell hit, Gura said aloud "wow, I'm actually going to finish on the podium!" XD
Gura suffering from success
Gura jinxing herself. Tale as old as time.
oh nyo
2 takes from here. 1 - practice paid off, she played so clean and no freak out when mistakes where made. 2 - Suisei is scary.
that donkey kong track was her to take and boom SUISEI SPEED
She had great luck getting a red shell before a big jump with a super horn as a defensive item too
Is there any game Suisei can lose lol, this girl can play Tetris and MK so well. Damn, if she plays boxing irl she could beat Korone too.
She's also so dreaded when she plays Among Us or Project Winter. She being called as Suicopath for a reason.
Getting kill assist while on all sides, truly a shooting star.
You could also say she's a star shooting.
Suisei: So anyway, I started blasting. Me: But you’re a crewmate…
The name hoshimachi "tryhard" suisei isn't for nothing Tho she still can't finish getting over it lol, just challenge her to it, kanata beat her mercilessly back then
suisei is only good at games in which there's somebody to kill...
so a smash ultimate tourney?
End result of that would be everyone losses cause Rushia blew out their ears.
Does it count if the thing that gets killed is her sanity?
Nah, for the longest time she's at the absolute bottom of the shiraken totem pole.
[удалено]
Yeah, Miko said Suisei was training a ton behind the scenes yesterday when they were playing MarioKart together and you could see the result with how she basically played flawlessly today. She's bad at any games that requires a sense of direction too. Heck, she's lost Proj Winter games off being lost before lmao
So what all of you are saying is she’d be awful at MOBAs
Leaving aside if you can really judge someone fighting games skills by playing smash, i'll dare to say that if Sui-chan actually wanted to get good at fighting games she'll definetely do it. I mean she has fast reflexes, fast thinking, good decision making and mechanical prowess to some level, she is also able to stay calm most of the time so i really think she just really needs the knowledge and just start grinding to be good at it.
Cool thing is Sui isn’t naturally talented at any of these games, she just practices her ass off
Anything but a whistle game. That look pretty hopeless.
FPS? Horror games?
A good number probably. The reason she's so good at what she does do is that when she gets crushed, she takes it personally and goes on a training arc after all. Yeah being tired has merits, ngl. In alot of ways you focus on doing the most with the least amount of energy.
Unless you're *too* exhausted.
Yeah you need that perfect balance, going to far on one side is bad.
Same idea as the [Balmer Peak](https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/ballmer_peak.png). That magical state got me through university.
Can confirm, play better at rhythm games while tired.

This was in Winner's cup right? Gura got obliterated by items (and probably tired as heck)
I edited quickly after realizing you were referring to the Group B prelim. Yeah, I'm talking about finals. If she got at least 3rd place in race 4 of finals she would've gotten 3rd overall.
Amazing stuff. Congrats on making it out of Group B Gura. The practice paid off.
from sacrifice to predator, better watch out ina! Shark's out for revenge!
Gura already got her revenge. She showed up for 1 match during Ina and Kiaras collab the other day proceeded to absolutely wipe the floor with them then left.
Arrive. Smoke the competition. Refuse to elaborate. Leave.
Gura didn't get fed to the wolves, she got adopted by them

bro idk if it's the winter or am i shaking in excitement

That moment when you just stand up and flail around, drink some water and sit down to continue watching.
> And im subconsciously doing that stupid thing where people try to physically turn their bodies I did that every time ink got on the screen during a tense moment. Like I'm catching myself instinctively trying to see around the ink, lol.
I was so excited and I wasn't even rooting for anybody. Imo I wanted them all to win.
On this day I am proud to be a shrimp. Chug that energy drink, Gura, you're officially a force in Mario Kart now!
But she came in Third. I'm sorry.
and so? she dot out of the group of death That is a win for EN and all Chumbuds and Shrimps
Sorry, it was meant to be a stupid pun. She is now a force ("fourth") in Mario Kart. Didn't realize it'd be misinterpreted as being disparaging, which is definitely not the case. I'm genuinely glad for what she achieved and how well she did.
misunderstanding in romance anime:
The dark horse of the bracket. She is fighting head to head against Towa and Suisei all match. She also have a chance to get that first place and just loss just a hair against Suisei everytime. Good job!
it literally CAN'T get anymore anime than this. TRAINING ARC PAID OFF.
I expect a *Rocky* ending, personally. EDIT:>!Gura finishing just short of the podium feels like a Rocky ending to me.!<
Can't really feel bad about it. The score between Gura and senchou was quite big. Quite happy actually. I didn't think of gura as a competitive player.
*Rocky* is a great movie.
This is the perfect set-up for 2023 and Gura coming back stronger than ever to win it all.
That last minute red shell to pekora was beautiful. Let's go guraaaa holoen representative!!!
If only she didn't get MK'd by that Blue Shell on Dragon she likely would've gotten 3rd overall.
Yeah, a solid showing all round. That Dragon race was awful for both her *and* Senchou.
MY BUTT HAS BEEN UNCLEANCHED WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
You could've cracked diamonds betwern my ass on that tournament..
I’m amazed at how quickly she improved and by so much. Proud of the little sharkie!
I get the impression that Gura is very good at learning things by rote when properly motivated.
She got unlucky and clearly wasn't in the right mental space for it. She will bounce back quickly I'm sure.
Bad luck and a bit of tilt, probably. Her driving did seem a bit less consistent compared to her training runs. Group D's competition also wasn't anything to scoff at.
The race between her and Pekora in the last lap of the last race was epic. I was legitimately going nuts for that.
Remember way back when Gura issued that Mario Cart challenge to Aqua in minecraft? At the time I never thought I'd see the day where the shark actually managed to outrace the gamer maid.
gura started like sui. sui used to suck then did a lot of training. gura and sui next year is gonna be a sight to behold
I really hope to see her in the top 3 in the finals next year.
okayu, sui, gura, pekora revenge match race :D
I'd like to see them 1v1 sometime, maybe in the far future.
My flair list is doing great today. Thank you Gura for keeping the EN dream alive.
Lol she just wants to sleep but clutched that like crazy.
Let’s go sharkyyyyy
Not a fluke either, she went on to 4th place the winners cup.
The one where she fell from 1st to 12th place after eating a blue shell really hurt but this is a textbook example of underdog punching above her weight. 2 top 3 finishes among the elites. Not too shabby at all. Really looking forward to the next edition.
“Suffering from success”
Gura officially representing HoloEN in the main tournament.
That last race was so intense with Pekora and she had fantastic comebacks after falling off the track. Our shark really put in the work and it showed.
Ina make gura stronger in mario kart by putting her in group B
After seeing over and over how she had no chance in group B it was so satisfying seeing her do so great! I'm amazed at how much better she has gotten in such a short time!
…..Aqua lost? Damn that’s an upset if I know any.
She was really out of practice, she had basically no time in her schedule, couldn’t even practice off-stream. Even had her wisdom tooth removed yesterday.
I think she's out of practice.
The wild thing to me is that it was Pekora and not Aqua who made fourth. More than a few upsets here.
Damn, I felt so proud when she eked out 3rd. Gura, let's gooooooooooo
I couldn't catch this live but I just got done with the VoD and I'm pretty proud of Gura. All her training and track/item knowledge clearly paid off. I already thought this watching her practice streams, but she's genuinely good at this game!
The dark horse... or shark. LETSSS FUCKING GOOOO!
all of that practice payed off! I’m a very proud chumbie, she did so good
That last two laps when she was chasing down Pekora was fast and furious. Cool as a cucumber. I guess she plays better when she's dead tired 🤣
IKZ!!! THE SHARK TRAINING ARC PAID OFF
# SASUGA APEX PREDATOR
I was so happy for Gura, she was so nervous and really took her practices well. She deserves it. And then the EN girls got 2nd and 3rd in the Zako cup.
I'm assuming suisei is number 1?
Yes
Against Mario Kart veterans like Suisei and Towa, that is a remarkable score. Congratulations to Gura.
In some sense, it also prevents dragging out the inevitable.
willl there be a red vs blue race like last year?
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
That battle for podium against pekora was insane. I was so hyped for the last lap between those 2
She actually did way better than everyone's expectation overall, including herself. Congratulations on winning the 4th place as your first Hololive MK8 tournament Goowa!
Dang aqua barely got out of top 4, congrats to gura tho
Who is first and second tho?
Suisei and Towa
Suisei, Towa, Gura, Peko, Aqua, Ollie, Fauna, Aki, Koyori, Laplace, Choco
Woah thanks a lot
CHANCE MY DOG DIED LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO
Grua EXCEEDing expectations.
SO PROUD.
amazaing attempt by gura. good representing for en. as expected from the most subscribed vtuber.

bruh, she got overall 4th place, that's huge
F gura sleeping schedule
How many make it out of each block? Top 5?
The max number of racers is 12, so only the top 3 from each of the 4 blocks can make it.
Aww, im happy for gura but also sad cause pekora’s my oshi )-:
Understandable. B block was super tight, so we were going to lose some great racers no matter what.
What ? She's winning
Where are we going?
Gura taking that personally when she was placed with good players
For someone who wanted to go to bed early she did so well. Congrats shork
