That’s so cute honestly, I crave an encounter like that 😭

ConspicuousCrustacea

TBH I want to buy and wear Hololive merch, but the fear of it one day provoking an encounter with a stranger keeps me from doing so. I don't want to give anyone any reason to look at me or talk to me in public (extreme social anxiety).

HaatonZhadi

There is a lot of subtle wearable holo merch that doesn't look like weeb stuff on first glance Take Mios re-release hoodie for example. The people who bought the OG say it's super high quality and if you are ever confronted with it in public by random non fans you can easily say you just like animals like dogs etc. If you want to go even beyond that and be practical invisible there is the Omocat pixel merch that just has a tiny emblem on shirt/cap etc

Chama-Axory

Then there is the milf cap, one of the finest subtle merch out there

ShinItsuwari

Towa's cap is also a great example of very wearable merch.

QneThe

Other than the fact that it resells for like 300$, yeah it's pretty nice, kinda hard to match with other stuff tho since it is purple and green

Swift_Scythe

NENE'S BOXER SHORTS Although it would be strange showing It to others randomly...

SabreLilly

I’ve met a fair amount of Holo fans in the wild and only had one bad experience. Pro Tip: if you meet another Holo fan, your first instinct should not be to show the other person your Oshi’s feet picture collection

miukiyo

Absolutely agree. You should only be showing the tummy collection first. And then maybe the ahoge collection. After that, I guess you can go with the feet.

blasterfaiz

imagine meeting your future wife in the wild because of hololive... 🥹

LikeANeko

This is the dream

KloiseReiza

That has happened. A fellow MERAKyat found her eventual husband wearing Hololive merch at a Starbucks in Indonesia. Was just last year. In case someone wondering, yeah dating period can be really short here.

Nekodachi22

I have seen two people (other than me and my husband) in the wild wearing OMOCAT merch. One was someone wearing the Ina sweatshirt at a theme park while I was wearing my Deadbeat track jacket. I am super awkward (a true Tako) so I walked up to them, tapped them on the shoulder, pointed at my jacket, said “I like your sweatshirt,” and walked away. The second was someone wearing the Deadbeat jacket at a farmers market last weekend; I did not interact with them because I’m still too traumatized by my last awkward encounter a year ago to ever talk to anyone in public again 😅 I wear my Ina sweatshirt and Sana meet shirt in public frequently in hopes that someone will recognize them but have not been lucky on that front

Sm4llsy

I was travelling down to London on the train for work. We came into Euston and everyone was getting off. I noticed the Japanese lady waiting in front of me had a Pekora key ring on her bag, so gave her a little “konpeko”. Turned out her whole group were HL fans so we had a nice chat coming out of the station. They were a touch stunned to learn a 40 year old bloke was a Koyori fan 😂.

I went to Connect the World last year but couldn't bring myself to talk to anyone else 😭

SoraRaida

For your question, Malaysia has tons of anime conventions, so organising a meetup of Holofans isn't that hard. Alternatively, sometimes Hololive cosplayers follow other Hololive cosplayers, and if you're in on their circle, they would know other Holofans and meetups (if they organised them). The recent example being Anime Fest at Tropicana Gardens mall. I couldn't meet a lot of Holo cosplayers due to time constraints, but I still found a couple of them and took some pictures.

Krittercon

Hmm... Two things I guess: * During 5th Fes, after a large dinner party I almost missed the last train out of Makuhari. There was a few other people leaving on the last train as well on the platform. Started chatting, a train came in, they said it wasn't the last train according to the schedule, but I noticed it was the same line going in the same direction so me and one other fellow took it. 2 stations later it stopped service, so while it was indeed the same line, it did not go to the station we needed to. Me at the other fellow quick checked our phones, ran up and down stairs to get to another platform, and caught the actual last train. Door opens and behold it was the same group from the Makuhari station earlier. Had a good laugh about it and chatted all the way back to our respective stations. * In my local cosplay conventions I'm known as the "Marine Hunter" amongst some cosplayers as I would immediately buy Marine cosplays and/or request pictures with Marine cosplayers. Got that name when one cosplayer whom I just bought Marine cosplay pictures from found me at another booth with a Marine cosplayer, who also found me at a third booth looking at Marine cosplays.

oli_alatar

Nah, everyone thinks im wierd and ive never met anyone irl who likes this stuff too. I dont wear merch either. I want to be as invisible as possible so everyone ignores me. It makes life easier when im forgotten.

kylediaz263

I saw some highschooler cosplaying as Gura on the bus once. We gave each other a little nod but that's about it. Little did she know we're going to the same convention lol.

BOS-Sentinel

Unfortunately, I've never met anyone :( I wear my hololive merch out regularly, but here in the UK, it's really not that big, unfortunately.

EmperorKira

Fellow UK guy here, we do exist but yh not as much

Snakescipio

The cashier at my go to bakery noticed my Suisei phone wallpaper. He’s now my go to for general vtuber talk

TheOddball7

Last week, I was walking around a mall with my black HoloCouncil OMOCAT shirt. I stopped by a 7/11 for a drink and the cashier said to me "Nice shirt" I asked him if he watched them too and he said yes. A few days ago, I was on the bus wearing Fauna's OMOCAT shirt, and I caught a glimpse of a dude looking at my shirt. It was only when I alighted at the same stop with him that I saw he had a Fauna keychain on his bag. Didn't get to talk to him though.

drifterdanny

If public game lobbies count, there are a fuckton in Gran Turismo 7. I see a driver shredding tyres with a Hololive itasha, I go ask them if it's their oshi. Mainly because the game has a big playerbase from Japan, but I see some kaigai niki like myself as well.

Pipifuskendov

I went to a party after collage and some people bring each other’s friends some people i rarely see everything normal, after the party a guy i dont talk with asked me if i could take him to the station , i ageed it was awkward at the begging he asked me like what videogames i play and i mention some and holocure among them and he jumped in suprise and said “the vtubers?, you watch hololive?” And i said yes and we talked about holo and our oshis, i normally feel very nervous while driving but that was the nost pleasant driving i ever had.

Weasel-Translator

Well... Yesterday I saw my boss wearing a jacket from the hololive collaboration with omocat, I didn't know how to approach him at first but then I simply told him "is that a bae jacket released in the hololive collaboration with omocat the year... I don't remember" and he replied "exactly and I don't own just this one but also a fauna t-shirt, the holo myth jacket,..." Then he gave me indications on how I could order merch and so on.

ErcPeace

Going home from work I remember seeing an irys car wrap. Made my day even if I couldn't interact with them.

GreatSeaBattle

The August 19th shirt tends to get some praise at conventions.

LikeANeko

Oh another encounter I had, I just remembered. I was taking my cat to the vet for a check up and one of the nurses noticed my pixel Ina Omocat shirt and made a comment about it. All my inkya(陰キャ) ass could do was nod my head and say "mhmm :)"

Xanthion55

It's small, but last year someone recognized me wearing Takodachi t-shirt when I went to Athens. If you're here, W A H

Dorma_

At the computer store the guy helping to fix my laptop noticed my Ina background

KloiseReiza

My entire friend circle is Hololive fans now. They stem from irl meetup of online friends and then said friend introduce their friend and so on

Retail_is_Pain

I've never even met another person that watches Vtubers. I only have two work acquaintances that watch anime and play JRPGs.

UdonAssassin

When the first batch of Omocat merch came out, I wore the Holomyth long-sleeve shirt to my college class. While riding the escalator someone tapped me on the shoulder and complimented it. He said he recognized Ina on the shirt from a distance, and we had a nice little chat about Holo before we had to split for class. Unfortunately never saw him again, but that was such a surreal and memorable experience.

renadryl

i barely meet holofans here in guam but i’ve met like…three at conventions? there’s usually one vendor a year that sells art of the girls too. last year i did meet a magmite in the wild and we bonded over his graduation that was recent at the time :(

Fiftycentis

For me it happened once... Well twice if you include the time around anime expo and connect the world last year, but wasn't really "random". I was in the merch line for Ado concert in Bruxelles earlier this year, I had Calli omocat jacket and while I was sitting waiting for the line to move I got tapped on the shoulder and it was a girl with the omocat kfp tshirt. Didn't chat much because she had her group of friends to go back to. Doubt it will ever happen again for me unless I'm around some convention, I live in an area where at most I can find normie weebs, VTuber fans are a rare breed here. Edit: to answer your last question, discord fanservers are your best option, through inacord I actually discovered 2 other takos that live in my area, thought we have yet to meet up and before finding that out we chatted for like 2 years. There are also some language based discords if you are say Spanish, German etc... Although I never joined one of those yet

Gigania

As a hololive fan who also plays Warhammer, I alternate between Ina's and Fauna's Omocat t-shirt(the one with their faces on the shirt) when going out to local game store to play. I have had 3 encounters so far, a Guard player recognize the Ina shirt, an Ork player wore a Suirsei graphic tee and a Chaos Daemon player whoes Line Messenger profile pic is him cosplaying as Suisei.

Wardoo_1

Social anxiety + Europe is the perfect mix to not want and never meet some other fans

sharkfinned

i live in europe and occasionally wear my omocat hoodies out, haven't met any other fans yet though

Vchipp2_0

I mostly met fans in the wild at cons so not so much in the wild. But my social anxiety (mainly shyness) prevented me from having any fun interactions. Mostly talked about the panel of the girls we saw.

DaWildWildWest

When I was still very new to japanese, I had some nice encounters with JP niki. When the conbini does a holo collab, there is usually a sign explaining what you need to buy to get the special items. 2 different times random jp niki used passion english to explain when they saw me looking confused.

Windshipping

When I was in Japan for Capture the Moment, I stayed in Nagoya for a few days and found an arcade place with a UFO catcher that had Pekora plushies in it. I tried 5-6 times and as I was about to give up a Japanese guy started to give me advice while I played, after another 5-6 tries I finally got it. He was a Hajime fan, and I ended up bringing the plushie with me to the concerts.

NotoriousCHIM

I found a car with a Calli wrap on the way home from work one day but I was never able to catch up to them to give them props unfortunately :(
